Great hole-in-the-wall eatery. They specialize in Mexican seafood dishes but also serve traditional dishes. I had a chile relleno, which is my test dish for a good Mexican restaurant. I was not disappointed! Split the Beef Fajitas with the wife. They were flavorful but a bit overcooked and dry. We watched several seafood dishes walk past us and the looked incredible. So we've been coming to this spot all the way from Downey for a few years now when we do some Casino hopping and I'd like to say that it was a real pleasure meeting the Man behind the scenes... Moises is as humble and down to earth as they come. I had to let him know that we keep coming back because of their always usual very nice and friendly attitude towards us. Service has always been impeccable, the food consistently great, never not once a tummy ache or any regrets of any kind. Lastly, and having tried their other location ("Oceana"); several times (A-plus as well!); I had to ask if they had any other local spots I can try: "Crudo", in DTWN PS, and "Hamburger Project", in Palm Desert, I can't wait to check them out! Located in cathedral city, this hole in the wall is consistently busy with locals and tourists alike. The service is welcoming and friendly. We barely beat the dinner rush and were immediately seated as we arrived at 5pm on a weeknight. Guess people eat early at the dessert. We ordered the burrito, a combo plate of enchiladas/taco, and the shrimp Diablo. The price of $12 for a good size burrito was excellent. We'd come back for the burrito for sure. read more

Quick stop in while running errands hit the spot! My friend ordered a taco and shrimp cocktail. She said her taco was good, but the shrimp was fantastic! It's her go-to when she comes here. I ordered a sope. It was piled with lettuce and cabbage, with a bit of beans and meat beneath. It had a lovely presentation. It was good. The chips had two varieties in the basket; a thicker kind while the other was thinner, like they'd blended two batches. Our waiter was very diligent, checking on us frequently. Excellent Mexican restaurant. I stopped in here tonight for a quick bite. It was great! The place is a busy local place with lots of regulars. I had two tacos, including a delicious Al pastor taco. I had a nice chili rellenos , the breading was a little thick, and the tomato sauce was a little on the mild side. And I had a delicious shrimp and creamy poblano sauce that was yummy. Portion size was generous but not wasteful! Perfect. Service was quick, efficient, polite and knowledgable. When I asked "How hot is your 'deviled' sauce?" the waiter replied "6/10" so I tried it, and was very happy with my choice as was my partner who had a combo with Chili Relleno and Beef Taco, half of which he took home as it was a large portion. This place only appeared on my radar this week online so was looking forward to trying it out. The place is relatively small inside, with a side patio, gets busy, and obviously has a large, loyal local patronage. Tables are turned over quickly as the staff are pros. :) Great value for money here, not to knock other local great places that are less expensive than downtown Palm Springs but here you know you're getting a good deal. Maybe I'll try their 'Huevos Rancheros' for breakfast, or one of their variety of ceviches for lunch soon! Downsides - only that they don't do mojitos (I know they could make a kick a@@ one if they wanted to!) and only had chardonnay for white wine by the glass when we were there. Stopped in on a Tuesday night and the place was packed (seemed like mostly locals), but we were able to snag the only open table. Our server was slammed but did a good job getting our orders. Had the house margarita and a chile relleno stuffed with shrimp. My initial margarita was a bit watered down with too much ice. The second was twice as strong and made up for the first. The chile relleno was rock solid, served with rice, beans and guacamole. My wife had steak tacos and proclaimed they were the best tacos she's ever had (!)--high praise indeed. A bit of a hole in the wall feel and small dining room, but overall a great meal and well worth the short drive to Cat City when visiting Palm Springs. (4.25 stars). read more

We love this place and if we lived here, would eat here weekly. Food is perfect. We started with queso with chorizo. Served hot with handmade tortillas. And, finally, chorizo that isn't overly salty and no grease. They make it in-house (owner stopped by and we talked about it). I had chile relleno and brisket taco. I judge Mexican restaurants on these dishes. And this place rates A+. Buddy had shrimp in ranchero sauce. He raved about it especially how fresh the shrimp were. This place has many seafood dishes. The other night we arrived for dinner -- with a gaggle of out-of-town guests -- but the reservation we made the day before had been misplaced. There was a big crowd waiting for tables, and we figured we were out of luck. I recently brought a group of 11 "Taste Buds" (our foodie crew) to Salsa's Restaurant in Cathedral City for a 10-course tasting experience--and wow, did this place deliver! The owner curated a menu of their personal favorites, and after sampling every dish, our group voted on the standouts. Appetizer highlights included the Carne en su Jugo estilo Guadalajara, a rich beef stew with bacon and beans, but the showstopper was the Almejas y Mejillones--clams and mussels in a garlic wine broth so flavorful we practically fought over the bread for dipping. For entrées, the unanimous winner (and overall favorite of the night) was the Chamorro Adobado--a slow-braised pork shank in adobo sauce, so tender it slid right off the bone. We ended the night with two desserts: the Pastel de Elote was delicious, but the Flan Napolitano stole the show--ultra-smooth, creamy, and perfectly balanced. Our server Laura asked if we wanted drinks. After getting her recommendations, we ordered the fruity margarita, and the guava grande. Absolutely delicious. She returned and wanted to know if we were ready to order. Again after patiently answering our questions and her suggestions, we ordered the shrimp sarandesdos, and the Alambres. Both dishes are served with rice and refried beans. The camarones dish which is shrimp were very plump, six of them served in an absolutely delicious sauce. The other dish is carnitas, mixed with cheese and a delicious sauce. We make carnitas at home and think it's really good, but salsas is better. Working with Laura, Carlos provided excellent support and service to us. Further, our host Moises stopped by to make sure everything was okay. Javier at the bar is an AMAZING bartender and even better person. So friendly and caring. Every time I come in, he's very attentive and remembers me. I appreciate that and it makes me feel more welcome and accepted. It's hard to find a good margarita, meal and server combo in this town. He is a gem and does a great job here and Crudo. He makes a mean mezcal pineapple jalapeño margarita too! Love his pour and love his smile! I love the bar because I can hide out in the corner and no one bothers me. We were driving around looking for places to eat and stumbled upon this spot, at first glance I'm like hmmm it's in a strip mall how good could it be but quite honestly it exceeded our expectations. Love a good Mexican storefront restaurant, and this is one of 'em. Sits right on the main highway from Palm Springs heading south to the Coachella Valley, and this stop is way worth it. Excellent (and unusual) appetizer of chile guerros, a mild but really flavorful set of stuffed chiles. Followed that up with a half-crispy half-soft carnitas dish that had great beans and rice, along with a delicious grilled jalapena pepper for added punch. Couldn't have been better.
