The grilled veggie burrito is vegan (I'm pretty sure), delicious, healthy, and massive! It has no rice as La Hacienda's rice contains a chicken base. I was told the beans are vegan and the tortilla's fat is soybean oil. I guess I didn't ask what fat the veggies are cooked in, if any. It has guacamole by default. As far as I can tell, the veggies are zucchini, carrot, and green bell pepper. I was able to add lettuce and pico de gallo. It comes with chips and salsa. The tortilla and chips aren't homemade but are good. read more

So we kept driving in McArthur blvd. and saw the sign, La Hacienda. With no previous knowledge, decided to go for it anyway. Oh My God! (notice I spelled it outload instead of just OMG!) I'm glad we did. This place, not exactly a hole in the wall, but very simple and cool. However, there is nothing simple about the food. When was the last time you asked for more refried beans and salsa just at the start with the Beer at the perfect temperature? So we got adventures, ordered tong with our loaded nachos, big plate, and in few minutes we licked it clean! Ordered 2nd round of beers and enjoyed some more. There is one big problem with the fare at La Hacienda: it is just south, up a block on the same side of the street and it's called Los Comales. Walk into that place on a typical lunch hour and you'll see lines out the door. And with good reason --they deliver a quality product quickly. I have been to Los Comales (a 'comal' is a dark pan on which tortillas are warmed or grilled) a couple of times for their wet burritos. I decided to try La Hacienda the other day because Los Comales was closed for some reason. Equal review, right? I would order the same chile colorado burrito that I ordered last time to see how La Hacienda served it. Whoa! The first thing you see when you open the styro container is the mounds of pico de gallo atop the very dark red sauce (not a mole) that smothers the burrito. By the time you try it, the pico, which was cold, is cooked through. But the intense, rich, almost bracing flavor of the red guajillo sauce completely overwhelms the entire dish --so much that it acts against whatever sauce and filling was inside the burrito. The meat quality also wasn't great. The beef was a little gristly. A carne asada might have been a better choice, without sauce inside. I also noticed that ground beef was another option. How you would spend $13 and change on a ground beef anything is...well, not a great thought to consider. Rice and beans were average, absolutely nothing to write home about. The sauces that envelop the burritos at Los Comales are lighter and less intense. I had to give up on the burrito about 2/3 of the way in when it disintegrated with the weight and spice of the sauce. Service was a plus --a little better than at Los Comales, where you strain sometimes to be heard. But maybe that is not a bad thing. read more

Delicious food that we've never been disappointed with: big ol' burritos (and they don't skimp on the meat..carne asada is bomb), solid street tacos (just had the lengua today and it was ON POINT..tender, a lil fatty, and so delicious. They're about medium size so 3 is good..5 if you're a beast), churros that are made fresh (no, they don't taste like they've been tanning under a heat lamp all day), and their chicken mole is good (although it tastes more like a diabla sauce than a chocolatey mole that I've had in the past). Greeted quickly and they were friendly when they sat us down. The menu is diverse and the food is very fresh and flavorful. Portions are huge and the table was crammed with plates! Lots for lunch the next day. Fajitas, burritos, enchiladas were great- sides of beans, rice, huac well portioned and fresh. The chicken soup was good - though I have to say it was a chicken thigh with skin and bone and huge green beans in a great chicken broth. We enjoyed dinner .
