I was so excited to get a Vanidoso cake from La Ideal Bakery which is a 4 layer cake consisting of chocolate, cheesecake, flan and the top layer of tres leches. A friend of mine brought a Vanidoso cake from another Bakery to a potluck and it was the biggest hit ..... absolutely delicious. So, I went on my Yelp and found out that La Ideal Bakery offered the Vanidoso cake. I raved to my husband and son about the cake ..... actuallly telling them that this will be the BEST cake they ever tasted. The Bakery had the panaderia breads, cookies and various cakes. The ladies at the counter were very nice and I asked for a Vanidoso cake. I bought a small one for $25 and was so excited to try it. I got home and sliced up a piece for hubby, sonny boy and myself. To my huge disappointment the Vanidoso cake was stale. The chocolate & flan layers were so dry and tasted so stale, the cheesecake layer was so stiff and the tres leches was not moist. My son and hubby only had a taste of the cake and sadly asked me, "Mom, are you sure this is the cake that you raved about?". I was so disappointed..... the worse part of the cake was that the fruit on the top tasted MOLDY. I told sonny boy that next time I'll place an order to ensure the cake is fresh. His reply, "Mom, any cake you buy from that bakery should be FRESH." Wow ..... my son was SO right. I won't be returning to La Ideal Bakery because they definately are not "Ideal". Mi raza....you have to try their tortas in the heated rack! They are super delicious! Their cold tortas are just as delicious! The entire bread and bolillos are really fantastic!! Now...their jello cups are amazing!! The customer service is sweet also! I went here to purchase a tres leches cake and the whole experience was very pleasant. All the workers there greeted me warmly and helped me pick out a design for the cake. They write messages on the spot for you as well so if you need any last minute messages, then this place will take care of them for you. The cake was well decorated and it tasted really good. Let me just start off by saying two things; 1) This place is soooo underrated! 2) This is pretty much a panaderia (mexican bakery) heaven! The minute you walk in you're pretty much in shock by all the variety of Mexican breads. They have sooooo many from custard filled cones to the classic "conchas". If you visit don't forget to try the marbled cupcake, it's like a blend of chocolate cake and cheesecake. Yum! And the mini cheesecakes too! I swear, the minute you think you've seen all the bread available, you turn around and see something new. Now why am I giving this place 4/5 and not 5/5. Their cake service. The decor of every cake is beautiful, especially the ones with a sparkled jelly, but we've had two issues already with cake orders. 1) We ordered a leopard cake for a babyshower and the decor looked VERY messy and unprofessional. 2) We ordered a tres leches cake and got a dry cake instead. The receptionist at the Vet highly recommended the bakery, so I decide to give it a try. Living in Irvine, you are not going to find a Mexican bakery anywhere nearby, unless you go searching in Santa Ana. All bakery items were pretty cheap, everything from Empanadas with sweet fillings to your typical "conchas" and cookies. Every time I go to a Mexican bakery, I'm always searching for their cheesecake bread thing. It's probably the best bakery item you can get. But, sadly they always seem to run out...maybe next time. It's a cross between cheesecake and pound cake. If you are in the neighborhood, give this place a try, you will not be disappointed with the bread and tamales. The vanidoso cake is also really good, I've gotten it for birthdays on multiple occasions. I did my research thorough many bakeries and found some awesome cakes, but they were all really expensive, and the once that were on my budget were not good. A friend told me about ideal bakery. They don't have a wide selection of flavors, but what they have it's really good. I brought a photo of what I wanted and they recreated the exact same cake (I did have to provide the flower because they didn't have the exact ones I wanted). I choose tres leches chocolate cake with strawberry moose and real strawberries filling. The other two tiers where vanilla cake with mango and marble cake. I absolutely LOVE this bakery! I live in Riverside (about 40 minutes away), but whenever I drive by this place, I make sure to make a quick stop. The employees are always so friendly, the bread is freshly made, and the prices are VERY reasonable as well. They have a wide selection of bread: to the cream-filled lovers, to the sweet and crunchy lovers, and to the old-fashioned bread lovers. Their meat empanadas are pretty delicious too. RATED #1 IN ORANGE COUNTY AND SoCal !!! THIS IS THEE PLACE FOR AUTHENTIC SPANISH DESSERTS, PASTRY & BAKERY. My OC based company put on a Spanish themed potluck made up of Spanish cuisine around the world. I had to bring dessert. I searched, traveled to, tasted and reviewed the "top" Spanish/Hispanic bakeries in Orange County and surrounding areas. La Ideal Bakery of Anaheim, on La Palma Between I-5 and Euclid off the 91, came out number 1. I focused on two desserts: Tres Leches cake and Vanidoso cake. They are known far and wide for their unique way of baking, unlike traditional cultural pastry/cakes. Their Vanidoso and 2 different Tres Leches cakes: Traditional Tres Leches and a MOCHA "Tres Leches - Mocha", are what "put them on the map" when the family owned business started 25 years ago - MOIST NOT RUNNY, DRIPPING OR WET is their secret. I called on the Saturday before our party on the following Thursday. Julie, the manager and family member, answered the phone and spent 20 unselfish minutes speaking with me, asking me questions as to what I wanted/was trying to do and explaing how they're different than the other bakeries around the county. What she didn't know is I had stopped in for a slice of their traditional Tries Leches cake, a week earlier. I came in to pick up my mocha Tries Leches on Wednesday and it was ready for me as promised. Her sister Paulina was there to greet me with the same friendly, professional and smiling demeanor as conveyed by phone. Both Julie and Paulina made it clear to me "our customers are important to us; no customers means we don't eat.". When I walked into the shop I was blown away by the flow of customers streaming in and out, the number of shelves, racks and stocked inventory. I stood there for 10 minutes and before a shelf would empty the staff already restocked it. Every item was fresh and the aroma permeated the entire store. No stale food here and only a sparkling, clean floor exists. Fast forward to the potluck. The cake was completely eaten. Everyone liked it and highly acclaimed it. The presentation was a knockout with the taste, flavor and consistency. Those who wanted "seconds", like me, were happily disappointed there weren't any. I called Julie the next day to give her the news. She told me she was greatful for the complement and would pass it on to her family and staff as she and Paulina always do, but she wasn't "surprised; this is expected because of their high quality, customer service and standards. Anything less is unacceptable." I told her when I picked up the cake I also got a slice of the Vanidoso. That was also dynamite and definitely different than one would be used to getting at other food establishments offering the dessert. Whether you're in the area or not La Ideal Bakery in Anaheim (near Buena Park, Fullerton, La Palma and La Mirada) is thee place for desserts and pastries - regardless of the occasion or cultural diet. From wedding cakes to a basic pastry, they rock. They get my 5 stars - and I live in South County! FYI there are other La Ideal Bakeries in the U.S. and a few in SoCal... Only this location in Anaheim, CA is the authentic original to the baking characteristics and recipes mentioned in this review. WOW! That is the only way I can describe our experience with Julie and La Ideal Bakery. Our entire family was brought out of the frozen suburbs of Chicago to Sunny Anaheim CA, to enjoy Disney and celebrate our parents 50th Wedding Anniversary. We wanted to surprise our parents with a wedding cake, they never had a wedding cake before, but the problem was my father is Diabetic. I was in search of a sugar free cake.
