Decent for a breakfast spot of you want big portions. Ordered the apple pancake, which by the way is so freaking huge and dense. Can easily feed 3-4 ppl. I also tried their French crepe. Which also was just okay. Kinda tasted a little eggy, like as if they cooked the crepe on the same grill as the eggs. Basically the crepe tasted like egg. Or maybe they just added too much egg to their crepe recipe. Another thing I didn't care for was that the crepe was rolled too many times to where it kinda made it thick. It was such a thick piece when you bit into it. The crepe was filled with a strawberry preserve and lemon custard which was just too sweet and too much for me. I did try their pancakes. I would say their regular simple pancakes is what I liked most. Not overly sweet or dense like the other items. They have parking but there isn't allot of spaces. I think the reason why this spot is so popular is because of the portion size, but other than that, it was just okay.

I visited today for my birthday, and honestly, it turned out to be such a warm and memorable experience. From the moment I walked in, I noticed how cozy and spotless the place was. It has that classic breakfast-house charm comfortable, welcoming, and full of character. You can really feel the history behind it, like it's one of those spots that's been making mornings better for people for generations. The service truly stood out. My server was incredibly kind and attentive. When she found out it was my birthday, she insisted on bringing me strawberries with cream on the house. I kept saying she didn't have to, but she smiled and said, "Nope, you have to take them with you." That little gesture honestly made my day, it felt genuine, not forced, and it's rare to see that level of care. Food-wise, I tried their famous Dutch Baby pancake, and it was absolutely delicious, perfectly baked, fluffy yet slightly crisp on the edges, and just the right balance of sweetness. You can tell it's made fresh from scratch. I've tried a lot of pancake places before, but this one really lives up to its name. I also ordered hash browns. They were tasty and crispy, though just a little more oily than I personally prefer. Still, the flavor was great and clearly homemade. Another thing worth mentioning is the pricing, very reasonable for the quality, portion size, and service you get. It didn't feel overpriced like many breakfast spots do nowadays. Overall, it was a wonderful birthday breakfast with great food, kind staff, and a clean, inviting atmosphere. The slight oiliness of the hash browns is the only reason I'm not giving a full 5 stars otherwise, it would be perfect. I'd absolutely come back again and recommend it to anyone looking for a comforting, classic breakfast experience.

This is our first time here at the origin point of the great TOPH restaurants and it's very obvious why they have spread so far and why because they said a high standard here which they managed to maintain at all of their other locations. This one, of course, was special because of the very comfortable ambience and their long time reputation for making world's best pancakes. Yes, sometimes you can in fact believe the hype and not disappointed. The corned beef hash and 49er flapjacks or standouts as always. Service was excellent and we had a very enjoyable time.

If you are looking for an amazing breakfast experience, look no further than The Original Pancake House. First of all you will not leave hungry. Their portions are very plentiful. I had the Italian Omelette. Which was excellent. But fair warning, this is a six egg omelette, which I over looked when ordering. So I did take half home with me. You also have to love their coffee mugs. You will want to buy one and take it with you. My waiter Ciara was great. Very friendly and helpful. The dining area is small and tight, but it has a very homey feel to it. This is a very popular restaurant, so you will probably have to wait for a table. But it is worth it.

First time back since covid. we have a 25m wait on a random wed in jan. despite the soso reviews, it's packed and busy on a weekday lunch! Wild. 4 pieces of thick cut bacon as a side. yum. the hashbrowns were crispy crunchy and the apple pancake just a classic as i remember- a little less sweet which is a good thing. this is the original and the decor shows.

A haiku review: Corned beef and sausage Crispy meats and sweet syrup Banana pancakes They accept cards now Tasty bites, powdered sugar Whipped fluffy butter Food comes very fast Friendly service and kind staff Always a treat here!

I have the two eggs, meat and pancake breakfast. My wife had the Dutch Baby pancake. Without both were pretty good and the price was decent. It's pretty small inside so it's might be hard to get a table or you might have to wait. This place has been there forever and it been a long time since I've been here, I'll have to come back.

When they say Original - they mean business! This is the real deal. Since 1953, this little gem has been cranking out the best of breakfast with real ingredients, like fresh squeezed OJ that tastes like you're biting straight into the orange! If you're lucky enough to make it during summer they feature fresh local fruit in bowls, in crepe, or waffles. August is peach season, which is my favorite! The pancakes and crepes are unparalleled, house made sausages are beyond compare, but the crowning glory is the Dutch Baby - it is pancake perfection - light and fluffy with perfectly golden crisp edges. The omelettes are also top of the list, but be warned they're huge - like 8 eggs huge! So bring the whole family, and order one of everything to share!

Huge assortment of pancakes, friendly service, cozy atmosphere, huge portions, and the food came out pretty quickly. We tried the Dutch baby and buttermilk pancakes with a side of bananas, strawberries, powdered sugar, and whipped cream. The Dutch baby also came with lemon, and of course there was butter and warm maple syrup. It was all excellent.

As a longtime fan who has loved the Original Pancake House and sought out this beloved restaurant in many cities, I am saddened by today's experience. This is THE ORIGINAL, first location, and I've been here many times. Pros: Ambiance and service have not changed. Friendly staff, quick service, kitschy decor. Good coffee in cute mugs. Added bonus: the restaurant now accepts credit cards! Cons: Their signature Apple pancake was tough and rubbery. Cinnamon topping was wet and lacking in flavor. Usually the cinnamon topping is slightly crunchy with strong cinnamon essence and the interior has a bit more custardy and airy texture without a dry rubbery crust on the bottom. I suspect it was pre-baked and had waited in the oven too long? (Our server even offered to replace it with a fresh pancake.) But, I think they are using a different cinnamon and apples in their recipe resulting in overall lack of flavor. Cherry crepes. Crepes are tasty! Same chewy texture. But the cherries were completely different. Looked more like canned cherry pie filling, served in giant globs of overly sweet sauce. Lacking the sour and sweet true cherry umami flavors. Maybe pick a different filling? This change in recipes and possibly the quality of ingredients is just so disappointing. I hope the current owners rethink this.

Bacon overcooked and eggs undercooked. Wish they had dishes with smaller portions and prices.

I've come many times with my family. I honestly don't think I need to go back though. It's very small and gets very busy. There's not much space as they pack the tables in. The staff is extremely friendly and helpful. I really enjoy the hot cocoa (even though I don't know if it's really milk and chocolate or if it's instant). It's a bit too sweet though. I love that it comes with a big thing of whip cream. The hash browns are sour which I don't enjoy. The menu is very sweet, not enough savory. Prices are a bit high. Portions are huge. Bacon is always overcooked. I don't like it crispy. I've made a lot of memories here and will likely be back, I just would not pick to go here.

The absolutely best food I've ever had!! I had fruit Crepes ! My granddaughter had a waffle and she loved it! We've eaten at many restaurants and know good food and service. The service was fast and very courteous. The wait was short even though a lot of people were waiting . I've never been to a more professional and friendly restaurant! I highly recommend this place for anyone who really appreciates great service and food!!

Bananas and Whipped Cream

10/10 Every time! The Bacon is the absolute best! I wanted a specific type of pancake but wasn't sure what kind it was, the waitress gave me a recommendation to try the sourdough pancakes which I had never had before so I decided to try them, while they weren't what I was looking for I'm glad a I tried them they were really good. A slight sourness and a little thicker than a typical pancake. The whipped cream is made there fresh and is so good I could just eat a bowl of it lol The only negative thing I would say it's a small and fast paced area so the tables are pretty close together and waitresses are constantly coming and going by but that could just be because we were sat right next to the kitchen. Otherwise it was great, will definitely be back.

Is this location well versed in food allergies for peanut and tree nut allergies? I love the original pancake house but haven't been since I was diagnosed with food allergies. I would like to go back if the cook staff is able to not cross contaminate

I am not able to answer with 100% certainty . I think that if I were a person with severe nut allergies, I would NOT feel absolutely safe, and I would not assume that this kitchen pays strict attention to our allergies. Please feel free to contact…

I thought there was a location on Se Powell Blvd. Portland Oregon is it closed?

As i approached the building, I noticed that it was full of people. I fell into the street. I was in and out of consciousness. My heart was racing at the thought that I drove 15 hours and could not get a seat at SCREEN DOOR. As I walked into the building a humble man greeted me. He told me that they would clean off a table for me. WOO HOO. I bursted out crying at the thought that I finally got my seat. As I sat down a soft chair graced my bottom. Beautiful. I looked around and the scenery was beautiful. As I looked at the menu, my eyes sharply turned to the chicken and waffles. Deliciously perfect choice. I ordered my food and got a coffee. My chicken and waffles arrived and I took a bite. I started floating. My soul left my body. I looked down at my body as I floating away, I was enjoying every bite. I reached the heavens. A loud voice said "Its not your time yet. Return and enjoy the rest of your meal." I ascend back to the chair and every chicken and every waffle was gone. The servers were SO kind. I got my check and shead a tear, knowing that was the best meal of my life. Over all from kind servers to and delicious food, SCREEN DOOR was an awesome experience. SCREEN DOOR deserves a 5 star, however I am going to give it a 5 star. I loved every moment. Thank for read my review. Love you.

Our total was 73.2 after tip for 2 dishes and 2 mocktails. Portion sizes were huge, if you're getting any savory dish, the sausage gravy is a must add. It complemented the chicken with the habanero sauce that is on the table. The chicken was juicy and crispy, and the sweet potato waffles tasted like carrots/pumpkin which was perfect for the combo. My girlfriend got the banana french toast, very sweet and will get your sugar cravings settled. If you're visiting Portland this is definitely a must stop brunch/breakfast. We'll be back

There was a short line forming. The large windows give you a sneak peek at the opulence waiting inside. Upon walking in the main entrance, the first thing I noticed were the chandeliers. The inside is gorgeous. The walls are painted various shades of greens making it bright and gives off a soft and natural feel. Given I was dining solo, I decided to seat at the bar located off to the left. It seats 12 comfortably. A big plus for me are the seats. They had a high back and are super comfortable. I could see sitting for hours gabbing with friends. Nice upbeat electronic music played in the background. Loud enough to hear but soft enough that you can hear who is next to you. I ordered the Omelette du jour - Three egg omelette special with bacon, spinach, caramelized onions, gorgonzola and blue cheese. It was fantastic. The first thing that hit my palate was the blue cheese and caramelized onions. Delicious combination. I was happy to see that the omelette was overflowing with caramelized onions as I love them. The accompanying roasted potatoes were cooked perfectly. I also got an espresso martini to wake me up and give me a buzz to start my day. Upon first impression, if I lived in Portland, I would come here weekly. I could see this being the place for brunch with girlfriends to catch up over cocktails.
