IMPORTANT- make sure you have a reservation (made online) however, it's also important that you get a confirmation email. I made one and did not receive a confirmation email so there must have been a glitch in the system and it did not go through. However, we put our name down on a Saturday evening and only had to wait 20 minutes. The place is very small and charming- we set less than a foot away from another couple which made the experience more fun. We were greeted by a great server and he accommodated to our language- we ordered a glass of champagne and a beer then 6 escargot to start. It was fun diving into the culture as well as delicious. The meals were perfect size for us and had so much flavor! We dipped the potatoes from the beef with the ravioli cheese and it was the most delicious combination. I get the buzz about this place, we had such a lovely time as a traveling couple and would go again for the whole meal anymore!
Great authentic French food. Tastes like it came from your French grandma's kitchen. Everything is soooo good! Our favorite in all of Paris! Ambiance of old-time Paris, warm welcoming staff, excellent service, superb comforting French classic dishes, large portions and very reasonable prices. It's got it all! Be sure to make reservations for dinner.
First of all... I took a chance. It was bitter cold and Saint Germaine passage was crowded. I knew I'd never get a reservation for after 7pm, but as it was only 4, I decided to take a chance. I really wanted to try the duck. I went inside and in my horrible French asked if I could have "a place port un." The server was so sweet. He sat me at a very warm table and helped me understand the menu. The food was superb. Warning: the duck tajine is very rich. The vegetables were cooked perfectly. The almonds atop the sauce add the perfect touch. More than anything, I was grateful for the kindness and attention to detail and courtesy. People like this server make the world a better place.
Of all the meals I had in Paris, La Jacobine was my absolute favorite. Everything here was incredible - if you're nervous but curious about Escargot - this would be the place to get it. The foie gras mill fuelle was heavenly. Both duck plates were incredible, we couldn't pick a favorite. Their cheesecake was also divine. They are a very popular place so I recommend going for lunch (like we did) or trying to make a reservation for dinner. We tried to come a second time for dinner on a whim, arrived around 7:30, and they didn't have anything open until 9. If we didn't have a kiddo with us we gladly would have waited - they are worth it.
Service was amazing and friendly! Food was great as well. Various vegetarian options are available. This was my partner's first time trying escargot and it was prepared well. The French onion soup and Truffle Ravioli was superb. The desert dishes had an amazing presentation, which was greatly appreciated. The interior was small and lively.
I have been eying out La Jacobine to have Coq au vin. It's one of the dishes I wanted to make sure to try while in Paris. Knowing they open at 7pm. I left early so I could arrive around opening to dine early. The Metro had different plans for me. One leg of the Metro confused me. It confused me earlier in the day but I figured it wouldn't be that bad this time. Oh...it was and when I got to La Jacoline, I was told the wait time was till 10pm. Super disappointed but I have no back up plans and other good restaurants would be busy as well so I decided to wait it out. While waiting, I noticed they have 4 chairs right outside for customers to sit on. Fortunately I got one early and didn't have to pop the Asian squat. The restaurant is bright and cozy with a family atmosphere. I didn't want to be rude so I didn't ask if I could buy something to drink while I wait. My boredom got the better of me so I asked. They said it's fine! Yay! Something to do while waiting. So many people walked by the restaurant while waiting. I got to talk to some diners waiting to help kill some time which was nice. Alex was amazing because he squeezed me in and I got in around 9pm vs the original 10pm I was quoted. He provided exceptional customer service all night. When I got in, I knew my order. I ordered their Mille-Feuille De Foie Gras as an Entrees and the Coq Au Vin as my Plats. My drink was a bottle of bubbles. It was a nice paced meal to enjoy the food and conversation. Since I was alone, I made friends with the couple next to me. Small world, the female was from HI and also attended Kalani High. The food was amazing! Totally worth the wait and everything. I do highly recommend people to make reservations though.
Almost everyone we know said we had to visit La Jacobine while we were in Paris. So the morning when we were done with Musée d'Orsay and it was still early for lunch, we decided to walk over to the restaurant and see if we could get in without a reservation. Probably due to it being a weekday in October, there were only 2 small parties ahead of us in the line when we arrive around 1145 before they open at noon. We didn't have any problem getting in but the small restaurant filled up very quickly. I ordered the foie gras and duck confit. The foie gras was very good but I had the best duck confit I had ever had. The skin was crisp and the meat was tender. Every bite ignited all my taste buds even though they were partially numbed from the absinthe I had had as an aperitif. Our waiter was extremely friendly and helpful as well. He spoke Spanish to a visiting couple seated next to us. Because of that, "gracias" slipped out from me a few times inadvertently when I meant to say "merci". Lunch was so good that we didn't want to go out for dinner to cancel out lunch. We got a baguettes and more butter on the way back to our apartment at dinner time.
This is in a super cute area; the restaurant is in a covered alley way with little shops and many other cute restaurants with patio seating. Service was excellent, and the waiter was very kind to non-French speaking patrons. We came in around 3:30 without a reservation and got seated within 5-10 min. I will start this review by saying I am not an expert on French food but based on the reviews we were excited to try escargot (for the first time!), coq au vin, and duck confit. All were excellent. I would say the escargot had the texture of mushrooms and was nicely flavored in a butter sauce and herbs and was pretty good. The waiter was kind enough to show us how to use the snail tongs and little fork! We also got the French onion soup was flavorful and I would certainly get it again. The duck confit which I've also never had before reminded me of Chinese duck but with different spices. It was cooked well and was great. The coq au vin was also good, very rich and tasted strongly of red wine, which is probably exactly what it's supposed to taste like, but it was just not my personal favorite. We finished off the lunch with a pot of tea, tarte tartin (a wonderful apple dessert) that melted in your mouth and served with a tart cream. Overall it was a great experience. We spent almost two hours here and loved the service, food, and atmosphere.
Lovely restaurant with meat forward / decadent saucy plates. From my experience eating French food thus far this place has large servings and more comforting styles food. I love the plats - most notably the wine beef stew and duck tajine with almonds and sweet creamy sauce. The lamb shank and duck fillets were also great. For the entrées, the foie gras and goat cheese salad were très bien! Dessert - tiramisu was alright since it was late night when we ordered and they made it just earlier so the cake have not soaked the coffee and rum. Cheesecake was good though. La Jacobine is in a small alleyway with a lot of other restaurants and bars and got lively in the evening. We had a reservation but had to wait another 30 mins to get in. The woman who served us was cheerful and attentive, which is rare to come by in Paris.
I'll start off simple it's a 10/10 it lives up to the hype. This was the best meal I had in Paris hands down. The food taste so fresh, not overly salty, and the portions are perfect. We had the duck gizzard salad and I'm not usually a huge fan of gizzard, but this was just amazing the pairing of the salty duck with the acidic tomato combined for the perfect salad I didn't know I needed. The duck with date sauce was something I've never thought of trying, but again to my surprise it was delicious. If you don't necessarily like mixing sweet with savory this dish isn't for you I however really enjoyed this. The pork cullet was my favorite dish it was tender and flavor packed and the potatoes were cooked to perfection. It was salty with a slight tanginess. I would 100 percent recommend this place to anyone visiting Paris unless you don't have a reservation and are in a rush we came with no reservation and it was an hour and a half wait which is valid. This was completely our fault make those reservations and try this restaurant you won't regret it!!!!

La Jacobine est fantastique! But you'll want a reservation. Call ahead or the wait can be over an hour. We had the duck breast with mushrooms sauce and the duck tajine at our table - both were phenomenal. I had the "Magret Canard" (duck breast) and ordered it cooked medium. I had no regrets. For dessert we had the Mille Feuille and the Crumble aux pommes et rhubarbs. Both were delicious in their own way AND the server put a candle in my friend's dessert and sang happy birthday with the whole restaurant. Le Mille Feuille is sweet without being overwhelming. It's light and delicious, but a huge serving. The crumble is a wonderful fall/winter dessert; heavy and full of cinnamon. The dessert table is right by the door, so make sure to take a look! Both of us said "we should come back..." at the end of the meal. Absolutely amazing restaurant and I can see why people wait for over an hour outside for a table. read more

The food the customer service all amazing, waiter was so charming and nice, I ordered the papillote de seumon a la florentine and it was incredible, also you have to get the dessert with the macaron with espresso, the restaurant is off in a little side street and is absolutely adorable, pictures are enclosed. read more

I wouldn't leave Paris without having at least escargot, French onion soup, foie gras, and rosé. I managed to have all 4 here at La Jacobine! Wait time was about 20 minutes, which will blow by fast by walking up & down the alleyway where the restaurant is located. As mentioned, we had French onion soups and the escargots to start. My entree was a "sandwich" with foie gras as the buns with jam in the middle over a small salad and bread. My colleague had a salmon and veggies dish. Everything was great except the escargot was underwhelming and extremely difficult to get out of the shell. It was covered in a leafy sauce which was good but not amazing. If you're claustrophobic this may not be the place for you. Waiters even had a hard time maneuvering around and accidentally spilled something on my colleague. Also the spiral stairs down to the bathroom is really narrow, if I was plastered I would definitely fall on my face :p Overall rating: 3.87 lol. I would come back if I was in the area and not a long wait. read more

We came to Paris for 5 nights, and ended up coming for dinner twice while we were here. The lamb chunk to die for. Definitely recommend 100%. read more
Last dinner here was 2015 and loved it. This time it fell a bit short. Coq au vin was a bit tough and didn't have the depth of flavor we remembered. However the escargot were a absolutely utterly delicious. Exactly how they should be prepared. Butter parsley and a hint of garlic and most importantly in the shell. The goat cheese appetizer must have had several tablespoons of cheese in each piece cause it squished all over when biting into the lovely pastry. read more

Seriously I had at least 4 onion soups and this was the BEST I had in Paris! I almost gave up! The reason why I went was for the rave reviews on the Coq Au Vin (rooster stew). I've had it before, but wanted to try it in Paris. It was delicious,, but I wish I tried the duck instead because that looked even better! House red is easy to drink and the pour is very generous. :) read more

One of our favorite restaurants while visiting Paris! A family member had recommended for us to try this restaurant and we are so glad we did. Alex, our server, was absolutely fantastic. He was extremely kind and patient even when the restaurant was slammed full of people. Along with the welcoming environment, the food was delicious as well. The French onion soup and wine beef stew were some of my favorite items, along with anything off of the dessert menu. I would recommend this place to anyone looking for a lovely little Parisian spot to grab dinner. We will definitely be back the next time we are in Paris. read more

The restaurant is down in an alley off the Main Street and can be a little difficult to find but it's definitely worth seeking out. The French onion soup is as good as its reputation of being the best in the city. All the food from onion soup to the escargot to the duck confit were excellent. The desserts were to die for. Definitely recommend the Profiteroles! You can't go wrong with ordering anything on this menu. With more time in Paris, we definitely would have gone back to try the other items. We got to the restaurant about 25 minutes before opening at noon and were the first ones sat. We were nervous about going to a Parisian restaurant with 3 kids (ages 8, 9, 11) but the servers were more than accommodating pulling 3 small tables together along the booth on the wall. We felt bad so we told him we'd manage with 2 tables but he insisted we used 3 tables for our comfort. The servers spoke English so ordering wasn't an issue. The restaurant is small and filled up very quickly so we'd suggest going there right at opening or just prior to avoid waiting in a queue. Overall, it was a great experience in French dining and will be a must stop in our future Paris travels. read more

Adorable little restaurant tucked away in a picturesque alley. Heavenly French onion soup. It is a very large portion covered in a thick layer of cheese. It was so good but I had to put it aside so that I could enjoy the rest of my meal. I also had duck confit with veggies. A nice change from all the potato sides I had in France. The duck itself was succulent and the skin super crispy. The Nutella Tiramisu I had for dessert was epic. Might be my all-time favorite dessert. Oh and this was all part of a reasonably priced 3 course prix fixed menu. read more
The space is very cute in a nice alleyway full of shops in the popular neighborhood of Saint Germain. The service was one of the friendliest and quite fluent in English. However, the food was only decent. I had their namesake La Jacobine salad, which was eye-popping big, with a whole slice of quiche hidden underneath 15 other ingredients. The ingredients were fresh, from blanched haricot verts, sliced cantaloupe, eggplants, chicken breast, frisée, etc but it was underwhelming in the flavor department. There wasn't much dressing to heighten it's flavor, other than a light drizzle of balsamic vinaigrette. I didn't get to try a warm entree, as we were moving on to another destination, but would definitely come back the next time I'm in Paris for a full-service dinner, as that seems to be their forte. read more

This place is DELICIOUS and DIVINE. It was actually my last meal in Paris and I am so glad I got to try this place before I left! The service is amazing! Our waiter was always checking up on us despite having a lot of guests to take care of too! For starters I got the French onion soup which was probably one of the best onion soups I had in Paris!! Perfectly cheesy. My boyfriend got the sausage and cheese and I kept stealing from his plate because it was so good!! By the time I was done with the starters I was almost full ahaha For our meals my boyfriend got the crepe which looked like perfection and I got the chicken with potatoes (I forget what it's called) but the chicken was nice and moist and the seasoning was so delicious. Unfortunately I was too full to go for desserts but make sure to save room for the desserts because they looked delicious!! Overall I absolutely loved this place. read more

If you're a first timer in Paris! I highly recommended this restaurant! I had 3 days to spend in Paris and I went there twice. The entrees are great and Tiramisu and Cheesecake are the best I ever tasted! If you are going to this place I Highly make a reservation because even with a reservation you probably have to wait 30 -40 mins because they are a smaller restaurant and always packed. I would get there like 30 mins before your reservation because you don't have to wait that long! Ask for Alex, he is the French Asian server! Why? Because there is another guy who is a bit younger will ask you to leave once you finished your meal because there are people waiting outside which l understand. Alex would not ask you to leave and take your time to talk to your friends or whatever until you're ready to leave. The prices are very reasonable. I live in the DC area, it is less than Restaurants in the Tyson Corner area and Reston area for sure! Joke on the side... " what kind of Asian speaks French, stop humiliating yourself " . Lmao. This became my must go to restaurant when in Paris. Didn't believe my sister when she raved about this place. I came here twice during my 4 day vacation in Paris. The French onion soup here is THE BEST. After having it, none of the other French onion soup can even satisfy me. Not only that, the escargot is equally amazing! Great size, and cooked to perfection. My main entree was the beef stew which was very simple, yet perfect. It was a savory, home cooked flavor. The sides complemented it perfectly. Totally recommend trying to book a reservation first because this place gets busy! read more

I came here last year when I was in Paris and this place did not disappoint! After a day of shopping and waiting for my parents, I walked into this cute restaurant and ordered a glass of Cabernet Sauvignon and a French onion soup. It was perfect for the cold chilly winter day. I hope to come back once the world is safe again (from USA) read more
It can be hit and miss eating in Paris -most places are expensive and you never know if you're getting good value for your euros. Seeing la Jacobine as a highly rated restaurant we made the long walk from the eiffel tower to try it out. Luckily they had one table for two available when we arrived so we were seated immediately. The staff were really attentive, they stopped to chat to plenty of tables while we were there giving that extra mile of service. The food itself was delicious - My French onion soup with gruyère croutons was delicious, so warming for the cold weather outside. There were people queueing by the time we left which is a testament to it's reputation. Wine is available in multiple sizes which helps to manage the budget! And the tiny toilet downstairs is a work of using whatever space you have! read more

Little cozy restaurant tucked in an alleyway. You can spot it from the opposite end of the street because there is a crowd outside waiting for a spot. Service was professional, place was packed but they kept everything moving. I would like to shout out our waiter for showing me how to eat escargot after seeing my struggle. My friend and I really liked the escargot and foie gras. We didn't like our entrees as much (her duck and mushrooms, me duck confit) but I also get the impression that maybe we didn't order the entrees that the restaurant is known for. Overall, happy that this place was my first proper French meal in Paris. read more

A few tips and observations about La Jacobine. First, the food is notably superior to the typical French cafes I had been eating at during my stay in Paris. Others have written so much that I'll be concise and simply say that my meal was delicious, and that I wish I could have tried more dishes. Second, the restaurant is both small and popular, so make a reservation if you can. I was fortunate that my schedule allowed me to eat early (7 pm -- that's an early dinner in Paris, and the first reservation available) on a Tuesday. By eight there was a small crowd gathered outside hoping for a table. A notable surprise: even the French waiter was nice! Very unusual for Paris. The restaurant isn't far from Sainte Michel and the area is touristy, so don't be surprised if you're surrounded by other Americans. read more

Oh Paris, oh La Jacobine!!! I am in love!! On my birthday trip to Paris my husband and I had a few hours to spare before our appointment time to visit the top of the Notre-Dame Cathedral. So we decided to stay near the area and have dinner, then dessert. We stumbled upon this amazing narrow gated street, and decided to have dinner. I will post about dinner in a later post but after dinner we decided to walk down the same street, and have dessert since, we had extra time to spare annnnd we stumbled upon La Jacobine!!!! This is a little eatery, they serve meals but we came for the beautiful dessert we saw in front of the glass window. We were kindly seated immediately the place is so cute. We sat near two couples and a family on the opposite side. I ordered the chocolate cake Ohhhhh to the MG!!! It was a chocolate molten cake with caramel, it was accompanied by Madagascar vanilla ice cream that was just as outstanding, as the cake itself. My husband had I believe a raspberry flakey Pastry cake that I can not recall the name of but it was delicious as well. The decor is very cozy feeling, dim lighting but not dark at all , the staff is very welcoming and helpful in making selections. You must take a trip to the restroom it is downstairs but you must walk down the narrowest, tiny, spiral steps, and there is no possible way for another person to pass you, in the tiny space, it is pretty funny. So if ever in Paris visit La Jacobine!!! read more
