I tried a burrito supreme combination plate from the La Jarochita food truck and it did not disappoint at all, because just look how delicious it is from my food pic! Everything was on point, from the big burrito, to the pico de gallo, sauces, and price of $14! The 4 slices of avocado were perfectly ripe and had a good thickness to it. The server was friendly and quick at preparing the food. I like how the burrito was hot and all the ingredients on the plate were fresh. This food truck is located inside of the Midtown beer garden with many other great options to choose from, and a variety of cuisines! It is easy to find and they have plenty of sheltered seating available right in front of the food truck. BUT the rice left much to be desired, it was completely unseasoned, with no flavor AT ALL and it essentially tasted like plain white rice. The el jefe of the taco trucks in Portland located on SW 5th between SW Stark and Oak. This truck has been in business for over 15 years and is the best of the best. Located in a secure food cart pod in the heart of downtown Portland and has tall gates to keep panhandlers out. There are a variety of multicultural cuisines to be found here. But the tacos! You name it they have it. Even if it's not on the menu like my favorite, camarones (shrimp), they'll make it for you and it will be delicious. I always get flour tortillas and a Mexican Coke. Usually one taco will satisfy me. They give you a little beeper that will vibrate and light up when your order is ready. It was nice that they were located in this food truck park, so a few of my coworkers split off and grabbed stuff from the other trucks. I went with a tofu burrito. I did not think a breakfast burrito was what I needed on a grey Sunday for lunch time, but stumbled upon this place when walking around midtown beer garden. I usually go to 2 other food carts in this same area, but I came here recently and wanted something different. This place caught my eye when I saw their menu for breakfast burritos. Because they got good reviews, I decided to give it a try. I got the potato burrito with chorizo ($10). Wait time wasn't too long, and you get a pager that will vibrate when your order is ready so you don't have to wait in the same spot. I was so blown away by this burrito because it came out piping hot, was generously filled, and tasted so good! I love that the flour tortilla was chewy and not dry. I will definitely come back. We found this truck in the food truck park at 340 SW 5th Ave, Portland, OR 97204. Both nights we were there we saw them doing good business and quickly preparing the orders (unlike some other trucks). I ordered a carne asada burrito for $10 and chips and salsa which were $4 (not included with the order like other places do). The burrito was made fresh quickly and was nice and hot when I received it. Everything was very tasty and I appreciated all of the included salsas and guacamole. I've always had the tacos here, and they deliver on the price and taste Department. I've had the #7 sausage breakfast burrito two date in a row. The first day was with everything and the second day was with no rice. I like the no rice option better. It's a nice medium sized burrito, the kind where you are full but not full for the next 12 hours and in a Semi Food coma. The sausage is perfect and a chunk in every bite, gooey cheese and flavorful beans. And the tortilla holds it all together well. I enjoy coming to La Jarochita whenever I can . I'm fortunate enough to live close by and each visit impresses ! I love ordering multiple menu items especially because their prices are super inexpensive. The bar area is delightful with friendly employees. The cooking and preparation of the food never disappoints here . My go to is asada tacos ( only $3 each or $14 for a combo ) . The sopes are hands down the biggest and crunchiest I've ever had ! We personally love to do vegetarian sopes with beans on the masa topped with amazing fresh veggies . The Huevos en Green Salsa is served with eggs, potato, spinach, avocado, beans, and rice with whatever choice of tortilla on the side . They are really generous with portions and give multiple tortillas along with whole bottles of your choice of salsa . We all had an early lunch, so we were all starving come dinner time. Since we were in a food stall area, we decided to grab dinner from some of the food stalls. There weren't that many open at the moment, so a couple friends and I picked La Jarochita. We stopped by on Thursday, December 29th around 7:30pm. I got two Tacos ($1.50 each): one Chicken and one Asada (steak) on Corn tortillas. All tacos are served with lettuce, pico de gallo, guacamole, cheese and sour cream. (I asked for no sour cream on my tacos.) The tacos were a good size for the price and totally hit the spot! I liked the steak one more than the chicken one since the meat had more flavor. I found it more satisfying. Another friend got the Taco Combo (2) $6.50: Flour tortilla with choice of meat, beans, rice, cheese, sour cream, lettuce, guacamole and pico de gallo. There were a number of meditarian , Mexican and Thai carts that were open. I decided to go with Mexican after taking a round of the carts. The menu mentioned few veggies that I could hardly see or taste in my burrito. I tasted onions and some lettuce. Overall it was warm and decent tasting burrito I could ask for on a snowy day. When it comes to the street carts on 5th & Oak, La Jarochita is easily one of the block and one of my favorite Mexican options in the city. Restaurants of the Mexican kind are everywhere, but my favorite eats are of the street kind, where the menu is simple and the food is delicious. The ladies operating this cart are awesome. Even at their busiest, they're efficient and doing everything with a smile. Prices are very reasonable, I don't think there is anything over $6.00 on the entire menu. With all of the variety they have to offer, it's important to note that everything is made with love. My first meal here was a simple platter of enchiladas rojas with a side of rice, beans, and a salad drizzled with a squirt of lime juice and ranch dressing with avocado on top. Served on an actual plate with real utensils instead of styrofoam or paperware with plastic forks, it felt like I was eating a proper meal in someone's home. Sitting along the makeshift wooden counter, I wondered why other carts couldn't be like this. This set the stage with my continued patronage, and with every little meal from their amazing Veracruz sopas to their sublime tacos, my little corazon (heart) goes back to La Jarochita every time, Lupe Jimenez, the proverbial "jarochita" is the owner and star of this wonderful little cart. La Jarochita has the goods. By goods I mean an avocado-verde salsa that makes your mouth burn and your burrito sing. I would eat it on anything they make, but most especially a breakfast burrito with asada or a taco of any sort. It's hard to find good authentic Mexican food in Portland and La Jarochita hits the mark. Is it perfect? Certainly not, but who is? It can tend towards being overly greasy depending on what you order and the wait can be longer if you come during downtown lunch rush (11:30-1 pm). But it is absolutely delicious and worth a try. Logistical tip: The cart takes cards but will charge you a small fee ($.35). Don't forget to leave some extra change for the kitchen! read more

Jarochita is by far, hands down, my favorite taco truck in Portland. I've been coming here for four or five years, and have never been let down once. That's saying a lot! My overall favorite item is the trio fajita plate, which is a heaping portion of steak, chicken, and shrimp all grilled together fajita style with peppers and onions. Served with rice, beans, and tortillas, this will have you full for at least four hours thereafter. If you're on the go, the trio fajita burrito is recommended; it's good too! The turnover is amazing. How they are able to meet the demands of so many hungry Portlanders is amazing. I took my family to this block for lunch. My dad exclaimed that the food at this cart exceeds any food at any Mexican restaurant he's ever been to. That's a big deal. My dad's eaten a lot of different foods at different places in his lifetime. He had one of the plates, which comes with rice and beans on the side. I had two tacos from La Jarochita before I visited the Rose Festival. We had an unlimited ride pass. The tacos were delicious and delivered at a fevering pace. However, the rides were not awesome.
