Passing through on the way home, and ordered takeout for breakfast. This is a family owned establishment, and all is house made. Our order was ready when promised, and included a large serving of chips and salsa (no charge). He had the Mexican omelet and said the chorizo was high quality - he enjoyed it with the potatoes and bean and house made corn tortillas. I had the cheese enchilada plate, which included 2 cheeses and topped with excellent chili con carne. It came with refried beans and rice, enough for a 2nd meal for me. So I've made several detailed entries about La Joya in the past. I'm here right now. I've been critical of their customer service, it was not the best because it took about 15 minutes for the chips and salsa to arrive and very shortly after that the meal. Luckily they always get it right in the kitchen. Great chips, salsa, guac, cheese enchiladas, rice, beans and a nice tostada. Lunch is about $10 + drink. I will be back for the food. Most orders I do around Wylie are for to go, I'm purchasing for my elderly, mobility impaired parents. So I look at things that would make their dining experience easier. Well the women's restroom may have bars but they have a changing table preventing the door from opening fully and allowing wheelchair access. The food . My Dad nor I was impressed by the beans. Pains me to say it, but this place was a disappointment. Honestly, I didn't have a single bite of food that was good. Chips weren't hot, salsa was super runny & lacked any heat or flavor. I ordered the Caldo de Res, a soup I've had many times elsewhere, and after the first bite, my lips felt oily. Lo & behold, I dipped a tortilla in and it tasted like pure oil, and it looked like a thick layer of oil made up about 50% of the bowl. Just could not eat it. My guest had a tamale and said it was not good either, though they had a ground beef taco they did like. All in all, I'm really dumbfounded as to why anyone would choose to eat here over Frankie's when it's right across the street. Have never had a single bad bite there. read more

La Joya is delicious Mexican restaurant with a gringo spelling! Honestly the service was great and the salsa is excellent, which is a failing of many Mexican restaurants. The table made guacamole was nice sized, it was the same price I pay at a different place for half the guac. It's in the downtown area of Wylie which is very nice, I was impressed with the gentrified downtown area. We then called the restaurant to find out what happened to be told by Blanca (Joya?), who claims to be the owner and manager, that it was canceled because their "Grubhub tablet" was not charged. She offered no apology or solution, was rude, unprofessional, and quite frankly, very hostile. Blanca even had the audacity to hang up on me when I was trying to find a reasonable solution. Great hole in the wall Mexican joint in downtown Wylie You seat yourself anywhere you like when you walk in. Chips and salsa are brought out to you no matter the time of day. (They serve breakfast ALL DAY which was HUGE for me. Who doesn't love breakfast for dinner? Especially breakfast burritos.) They have large cups so you don't have to ask for refills as often which is convenient. Service could use a little work as far as being more attentive and checking on tables. There were a few times when we needed something and our server was talking through and never looked our way so we could get her attention. I think that's the only thing this place is missing is a little better service. I ordered 2 combination breakfast burritos. They include eggs, cheese, bacon and chorizo. I love potatoes in my breakfast burritos so I added potatoes as well as sausage so the burritos were pretty stuffed. I love to eat and I almost had trouble finishing the second one. I asked for hot sauce and I would definitely get a few bites in with it before you add it into your entire burrito. It definitely had a kick but it hit the spot! In Sachse, Mexican food usually means Frankie's...that is until we discovered La Joya in Wylie. While Frankies is still very good, La Joya rivals any Mexican food place not only Sachse but in the entire Dallas metroplex (IMO). Everything and I mean everything is fantastic. Even the chips and salsa are a step above most other restaurants. Not only is the food great, the prices are cheap, the staff is friendly and its usually easy to get a table without the proverbial 45 minute to 1 hour wait. While La Joya isn't fancy, it is now our go to Mexican restaurant! Side note - the Carmel filled Churos are absolutely incredible. Best I have ever had! read more

Some things were good and some were bad. There's potential enough that I might try it again. I went here because some people on social media said it was a great burger. We got a burger and puffy beef tacos. The good: great prices, decent burger, big portions, steak on the puffy tacos was tender, good salsa, friendly service. The bad: terrible chips, the "puffy" taco shells were not puffy and just grease saturated dough- but the meat was good so we took the fillings out and ate it like a salad which was good. I didn't want fries so I asked for onion rings with the burger instead and when they brought the food they said they were out of onion rings and so they gave me fries. It was weird they didn't tell me first and just basically made me take what I didn't want, not the end of the world but weird. The bathroom was dirty and smelled nasty. The place isn't very visually appealing- broken tv, no pictures, just a hole in the wall. But I may try it again sometime because I'd bet the fajitas are good with that tender meat, and maybe the regular taco shells or enchiladas wouldn't be so greasy. read more

I had gone by several times for breakfast two weeks ago - as it says it is open for breakfast - but no one was there. Very disappointed. I've been there even at 10am and nada. They don't care about the hours printed on their doors. Recently, I heard the place caught fire or burned down. I hope no one was hurt.
