The server took it back, didn't pack it for me, but charged me for it, at the end I have to settle for fried cheese that is safe. The lettuce was soggy and the dressing was super watered down. I think it was supposed to be a vinaigrette but it had zero tang or flavor. The shrimp mofongo was ok. It did come with extra sauce as I requested but it was a little more tangy than I was expecting. The mofongo itself was fine and had a good flavor and the texture was right. I'm not going to lie- this spot was very good! Great prices! Great portions on most of their dishes. My wife's portion was huge, but the girl that served me was cheap on my portion. They have some menu items that you can that you can have freshly done. But we picked from the spread they had over the counter. I had fried chicken chunks but it was cold so I just had them heat it up. My wife had their lasagna and pernil with arroz con gandules. Everything was really good!! I will be back. The music was so loud for such a small restaurant, you couldn't hear the server or the rest of your party. How can you visit a Caribbean restaurant and not find sweet plantains or yuca (cassava)? On my visit, I got some yellow rice, pork chops, and mac, and to be honest, the food was good, but the pork chops were specially good and fat, and that was a bang for my buck. Stopped in to grab lunch before heading to the airport. Small spot in a plaza with lots of other fast food places close by. Sadly, I'm wondering if this place mistakenly gets looked over. Theres a cafeteria style option, which I chose, or you can order from their menu. I ordered 2 fairly large containers of food and a side of avocado. When the total came to $13, I thought she forgot to ring in a plate. She didnt! These large plates were $5.99 each! She goes on to tell me not to send her in for pick up if she cannot understand. That alone prevents me from going back. I have a large selection of Spanish restaurants to choose from. We were in town for only a day, staying near the airport and convinced the hotel shuttle driver to take us here for lunch (...it may have been a hair outside of their 2 mile radius...may have been...) Anyway, we got there at about noon on a Saturday with tired and hungry kiddos. A few tables were taken but no line at the counter. There are tall plexi glass walls around the food counter which I guess is good for possible sneezers, or zealous samplers, but made it kind of awkward to half-shout our order up over the tall barriers. Almost as soon as we got in line to order our food, more people flooded in and the line was out the door. So try to miss the rush! It was worth it! We ordered the $3.99 chicken and rice special for our 4 year old and it could have fed an adult with leftovers easily! We also had the Ropa Vieja which was excellent. A few other dishes with meat stew type entrees served with rice. We had a side of tostones (fried bananas) that were awesome mashed into the meats and rice. We also had a glass of tamarindo juice which was super good. Overall: the food was excellent; portions were huge; service was friendly and as expected from an order-at-the-counter kind of place; ambiance was fine for a no frills hole in the wall; and prices/value were awesome.
