We have been fans of Pio Pio for many years, but this was our first time dining at this location. We didn't realize they had moved since we have been living on the side of town closer to the Universal location. One thing that stuck out to me was the strong odor of bleach or cleaner the minute we stepped inside. The setup was very different. The staff wasn't as friendly and warm. But, the food made up for it and was as delicious as we remembered. They now even have the garlic sauce in bottles. We ordered our usual - whole chicken, yellow rice, yucca with garlic and onions and sweet plantains. The service was slow for a Sunday and it wasn't busy at all. We had to ask for our drink refill. Overall, we were very happy with our meal and bellies full, but I don't think we will we back here. read more

My wife ordered the churrasco with tostones, rice and beans. I had the bandeja paisa. We were both underwhelmed. Both meals lacked seasoning. Her steak, while cooked just like she ordered was bland. The rice and beans on both dishes were meh, the tostones were over fried and the sweet plantains were too firm and did not taste fresh. The pork belly appetizer was good, but needed a little acid. I had a meat empanada as my appetizer. The meat inside was very dry and, again, was lacking seasoning. The kicker was the price....almost $100 with no alcohol. I used to like this place when they were smaller, but I'm not so sure now. The service was attentive and they did have a soccer match on the television, which was a plus. read more

The wife & I Decided to eat dinner at Pio Pio on a Friday. Upon entering the establishment we were surprised it was pretty empty. We were sat down immediately then a waiter took our drink orders I had an Old Fashion (Makers Mark) and the wife opted for a Mango w/milk juice. Once the drinks arrived my wife drank her juice and she made a face like she just drank sour milk then for some reason I tasted it I made the same face. The milk had that spoiled taste to it. So we asked the waiter for water instead he came back with Mango w/water which means it's made with water & not milk. Our food finally came out it took longer than expected being that it was pretty empty. The food was mediocre and one would expect that they would give more than 3 plantains as a side. The wife & I were pretty dissatisfied especially when we seen the bill the waiter charged us for the spoiled mango juice. I see why many patrons were not there on a Friday night. This place has potential to be excellent giving the real-estate it has. A revamp is in order for that to happen though. Wish them the best. read more

The chicken was the star of the show for me! Getting a quarter was a perfect amount for me while for only $2 more my boyfriend got a half chicken. This meal with the sweet plantains was delicious! It definitely made me want to come back and try other meats as the chicken was cooked perfectly. I would not get the empanadas again, you could tell they were fresh but the inside was just too mushy for both of us. I would be interested in trying an arepa appetizer instead next time. The beans came in what looked like soup and were way too watery for me. This is why I'm giving four stars as 1/3 of my dinner entre to me was inedible. Our appetizer and avocado add on also came out after the main courses but ended up not really minding since the chicken was really the highlight. We hadn't had decent chicharron in a while so we got the appetizer which comes with three adorable arepas. The pork belly was fried perfectly crisp but still moist inside with those great caramelized bits that get stuck in your teeth. The arepas were super crunchy outside but fluffy inside. I got the lunch combo chicken soup, salad and 1/4 roast chicken. The broth of the soup was so warm and comforting, if I were sick it would have cured me. There was a nice big chunk of white meat and tender potatoes, green plantains, and corn garnished with cilantro. The chicken was moist with a crisp skin and flavorful throughout. The salad dressing was a garlic dressing that I suspect was the garlic sauce mixed with vinegar and absolutely delicious. My father had the bandeja paisa so he could try a bit of everything. The steak was a bit dry and lacking in flavor but the runny egg and their garlic and green hot sauces were more than enough to fix that. The sausage was well seasoned with a snappy casing but juicy inside. The pork belly was just as good as the appetizer and the beans were a bit sweet but lots of seasoning and tender. Sweet plantains made an excellent gooey, caramelized break from the savory. $50 for appetizer, two iced teas, and plenty of leftovers. I definitely recommend! read more

This new location (and building) is kind of out of place but it is actually a clear representation of what is happening in our fair city of Orlando: new blood is pumping in. This place invites a cosmopolitan crowd to an old, tired and boring part of town, and I hope that it not only reinvigorates the neighborhood but also attracts more young and strong energy. I am tired of farmland and swamps, I am tired of old efforts to keep Orlando in the past, like that whole thing with "The Milk District". It is preposterous, dairy companies are going bankrupt, like our own T.G. Lee, why glorify a past that no longer represents who we are? Moving on, literally. This new location is amazing. Beautiful bar countertops that are white stone, open and spacious dinning room, and a separate private area that is more nostalgic and traditional. This is a contemporary farmhouse, very modern and sleek. Even the entrance door has a sensor motion device. The bar is pretty cool and they have lots of top shelf bottles, and there are screens everywhere (that annoys me actually but... men like their screens, or at least used to). I have been ordering for a while here and I have always had a good experience. The food is good, really good actually, and it can get you out of that craving for Latin American flavors, of course, modeled after our Orlando identity. The prices are not low, so don't come here in your yard-working clothes, even gym clothes won't cut it. This is the first time I sit down to eat at this location, I chose the bar, and I really enjoyed the vibe. I got a rotisserie chicken meal, with rice/beans and one side (fries) plus lots and lots of that green spicy sauce (Peruvian), and then I had a flan for dessert. I came here strictly because of its location next to Shipley's donuts. I was wanting donuts for dessert, so decided to try this place because it's right next door. There is ample seating inside and outside. They have a full bar and decent happy hour drink specials. I ordered a mango margarita and it was tasty. They have large TVs inside and were playing soccer. Our waitress was sweet and attentive. It wouldn't be a bad place to hang out with friends but the food was just horrible. Everything--and I mean everything-was dry and chewy. Not one person enjoyed their food. Even the plantains were too dry to enjoy! My daughter ate a small portion of her pork chop and we tried to feed it to a stray cat and the skinny, homeless, starving stray cat would not eat it. The food we ordered and did not enjoy were: sampler platter, chicken empanadas, arepa with cheese, garlic and shrimp mofongo, pork chop special and quarter chicken special. Have been here many times and the food is always delicious, fresh and served in very generous portions. I typically gat two full meals out of one lunch platter. While everything I have ever had here was good, the highlights for me are the fried yucca and the grilled pork chops. Service is quick, friendly and attentive. I had the chicken soup with quarter chicken, salad and a side of white rice. The homemade dressing was SO good. The chicken was a little dry for me but my husband enjoyed it with the house made sauces at our table. My husband had the Bandeja Paisa - wow! So good and super filling. My fiancé being Peruvian and me being Colombian thought It was appropriate to stop by and see what this place was all about in 2021. We visited the weekend of Valentine's Day, on Friday night to be exact. Walked in and the wait was 15 to 20 mins for a table or you could walk up to the bar which was open seating. We decided to sit at the bar being that we were on a night out. Without realizing how hectic this bar was. The live music playing was phenomenal, I'm glad the singer was there because it helped make my stay a bit more enjoyable. Drinks took a bit to be served and my coconut mijito was very Milky. I wasn't really on the mood to eat an entree but instead wanted to snack on some apps and share those with my partner. We thought the empanadas x4, papa a la huancaina and ceviche would be a great choice since they are staple items from both places. The beef empanadas where bland and the paste inside of it was raw, the papa a la huancaina was served with what appeared to be cool runny velveta cheese, and the ceviche had huge strings of fish and burnt canchita. When I inquired the bartender about the Huacaina sauce she replied that's all she had. No ají for the empanadas only green sauce. And no fresh canchitas. read more

Came here as a date night with my husband, it's the new location after moving to the other side of Semoran. The staff fretted us and sat us down. I couldn't help but feel like each interaction was... awkward. Example, one person came by and took our order. Shortly after, another came by to take our order too. Had the tostones for an appetizer and the hogao was actually really good, rich umami kind of flavor. Was a bit disappointed in the portion, honestly. I wanted to try something original so i want with the Lomo Saltado. The fish as a whole had an awkward balance. The broth was a bit salty, but the meat was alright, and the rice felt under seasoned. If i mixed it all together, it worked out fine. The two that were worth coming back for we're the Passion fruit Mojito & Creme Brulee If all their drinks taste as good as that mojito, I might have found a new drink spot. It was soooooooo good. Perfectly balanced, you could taste the rich passion fruit and the rum wasn't far behind. The Creme Brulee was wonderfully sweet, perfectly cooked and a great end to a heavy meal. I was craving Pio Pio tonight and placed an order for pickup through the Yelp app. I ordered chicken soup, an empanada, and the quarter chicken meal which comes with beans and rice and your choice of side (I got yellow potatoes.) The food here is always good and this was no exception. The chicken soup has a great flavor and a large amount of chicken and yucca. The empanadas here are crispy and tasty. The chicken is always flavorful and juicy. I always order white meat and it's never dry. The rice is one of my favorites. I could just order beans and rice and be happy! The yellow potatoes are a little bland, but I take advantage of the sauces they give you so that fixes the issue. The white sauce is my favorite. If you haven't tried Pio Pio yet, I highly recommend it! You will get a large amount of food for a good price. read more
