I live in the area and have stopped in occasionally over the past two years. But I've noticed that in the past year things have declined. I went there today and the women are spraying cleaner in the glass cases close to food, and when she served me she didn't wash her hands after spraying the chemicals. It was 5 and they barely had any meat options. All of the rice looked dry, the girl had to hit it with the spoon a couple of times to break it apart and put in my tray. I really wanted to like this place. It's a little bit similar to like a chipotle. There a line and places to sit with a lot of tvs. The place seemed very clean. But overall, the food was bland and cold. I visited with my friend who's Latin. There was a sign that says Mondays and Tuesdays Bogo specials. Since it was a Monday, we figured we'd stop in. There were no menus and no prices and no labels on any of the foods. We had to ask what everything was. And even though there were only a couple people in the restaurant we seemed very rushed by the woman getting our food. The drinks are in cans or bottles. They did have Coke and Diet Coke and Sprite. I was ripped off! I ordered the buy one get one lunch special and it came out to $17 and the only option was baked chicken which was a thigh and a leg so it's 1/4 chicken. Pros: the food was incredible. Portion size for $15 is enough for two large meals. The workers are fast and friendly. The atmosphere was pretty loud but everyone there was in good spirits. There are several televisions that were displaying sports. Cons: Literally no menus anywhere. You HAVE to know what it is you are ordering or just point like I did. The place had a welcoming vibe and you order via buffet service style, with the employees getting you your picks as you go down the line. I did yellow rice and the stewed chicken. Be ready for HUGE portions. It was more than enough for leftover and another meal for lunch the next day! Honestly the next day was almost better than the first as it gave time for all that delicious chicken juice to soak into the rice.... The staff was really friendly and they moved the line quick! First timer here and I went to the drive thru, the lady was very helpful she did not speak English well however she was very patient and pleasant. Wepa wepa!! Solid and affordable, this small cafeteria style Latina eatery serves up most all the popular Caribbean choices along with some other interesting selections. I Love coming here for lunch often enough whenever I'm working nearby; today's trip in was because I missed them. Sure, they're on island time, so there's that to consider. ...but at least they feed you. Like really feed you. You won't go home hungry. I've bounced around the menu and don't have favorites so much as I like trying something else just about every time I come in except for the rare exception where I'll go for the pernil; which I really like here. The model is very simple here, you're going to get a combo plate with your choice of rice, protein and starchy vegetable. They have so many options to choose from. No matter what you're in the mood for they will probably have something to satisfy your taste! I chose the arroz con gandules, carne frito, y maduro. The portions here are very generous! They piled the plate with the arroz con gandules (rice with pigeon peas) continued with the fried pork chunks and finally three large pieces of sweet fried plantain. The food itself was fantastic! The rice and meat were seasoned to perfection! The plantains were simply sublime and the perfect complement to the savory dishes. When you walk in, you will see pans of food all around. You basically just go up, point out what you want, and the server will dish it up for you. I chose pork and yellow rice with black beans. My boyfriend chose a piece of pastelon. Portion sizes were huge! We sat down after paying under $10 for all of this food. We shared each other's food and everything was delicious. They're generous with the portions, so this is not a place to come into if you're looking for a light meal. It's similar to a buffet in that you walk up and select your items as someone likes them onto your plate. Then you pay at the end. The price point is good. The photo of the meal that I'm sharing below came out to roughly $10, which is a good price relative to the portions that I got. The price is good and the portions are generous, but I think that it's too heavy for just one person. You could walk in here and get a to go box and feed two people, quite frankly. The quality is on par with what you'd expect at one of those small Chinese takeout joints. It's all right, but doesn't particularly wow. I stopped by to check out this new location for Lechonera Latina. It used to be the old Tasty Thai location. First thing I noticed was the cafeteria style food service line. You select your type of rice, they have four different ones to choose from. Then you select your meat. Latin style meat is the best. Pork, beef even goat meat is available. Then select your side. As you can see by the photo I posted, it is a massive sized portion. Believe me your money is on your plate. The reason for only four stars. I found this place very noisy. Tile floor, smooth walls, no coverings on tables, stainless steel serving line. I saw no type of surface that would even absorb some noise. This place is so noisy that I had difficulty hearing the lady making my plate, I even speak both English and Spanish. My recommendation here is, be prepared to eat some big portions of Latin food, really good Latin food and hear the conversations taking place on the other side of the room. I walked in at 6 pm to pick up food for dinner. Asked the lady serving, what a specific dish was. she said it was Beef. So I ordered and left the store. As soon as I got home and opened the container, I noticed it was greasy pork instead of Beef. I called the store to let them know that I will take the food back to exchange for beef. No one speaks English, so with broken spanish, I tried to explain and I was ok. I drove back from home to the restaurant again and the same girl, picks up the food, go to the side and laughs with the guy who worked there. Comes back, empties the pork back into the container where they serve people and in the same box, puts two pieces of meat . I looked at her and was at amaze that she empties the food that I touched back in the container where everyone is getting served. Then I told her can you please put the food in a new container, as it is leaking everywhere. She gives me a dirty look. Then I decided to go ahead and go to the cashier and ask for my money back. No one spoke english there. One guy was behind the counter which I am not sure if he was a vendor or a someone who worked there. I tried to explain the situation to him and he agressively shut me up, instead of trying to apologize and try to make the experience better. I came in here at around 7 on Friday. Didnt have all the meats and rice they usually have since it was later during the day. Nonetheless the food was still really good. The manager came over and asked if i wanted to have some pizza empanadas for free since they would close soon. He gave them to me and they were phenomenal.
