Even the papas cheese had some nasty flavor like it was from a Cheese Wiz jar. Blech! The Arroz chaufa had not one single piece of chicken in there & the egg was fake egg in teensy squares you could barely see. Tasted like tofu. How can rice taste so wrong. I hope I don't get fried rice sickness! The tamale had a big chunk of very dry chicken breast in it and nothing else. The flavor of it was off. I took one bite & threw it away. We love this place! The staff is always so nice, the waitstaff are welcoming and friendly (especially Guillermo), the food is always tasty, the atmosphere is peaceful and nice, along with the music. My fiancée is born and raised in Peru and she 100% approves of the food here. We love the cancha they serve at the start along with the huancaina and ocopa sauces, and they are great at keeping those filled. We love the pollo a la brasa, fettuccini with huancaina and lomo, ceviche was beautiful, and parihuela. The lunch specials are amazing deals, just be sure to call ahead to make sure they didn't sell out yet. The maracuya juice is perfect. Overall we prefer coming here over than Picca or Sardi's, they have good food too but the atmosphere and friendliness isn't the best, and the wait lines can get long. Let's start by saying that the staff here was super friendly from the lady at the register to Guillermo my waiter he was AMAZING!!! Capitol letters amazing. He offered me this special tea they make and it so so delicious I don'y remember the tea but all I know that it's made of herbs and it's good for you. My main dish was the papa it was so creamy, the potatoes were cooked to perfection. I ordered a side of rice with it great combination two starches never hurt.. lol i also ordered the Choclo is was so delicious most places I go they always have hard corn not this place. The green sauce was so good I wish the yellow sauce was as watery but it's good. For dessert I ordered leche asada omg is this incredible or what!! It's similar to a FLAN 100 times better. My friend and I came in for lunch. Due to dietary restrictions my friend requested the beef in the lomo saltado be substituted with shrimp in which the waitress went to check with the manager for approval. She proceeded to tell us it would Be extra which we were ok with however did not mention the extent to how much extra we would be charged. Upon receiving our bill we realized that we were charged an extra $20 for this substitution making this mediocre meal a $40 plate. While trying to understand the charge ,we asked the waitress for a manager in which she lied and said she couldn't find the manager however I was staring at the waitress and the so called manager having the conversation. The waitress comes back proceeding with this lie after I had been staring at them. 10 minutes later.... what do you know ? the same "manager" who was Missing pops up and tries to give a crappy justification . Her ideal rationalization of this absurd charge was that every meal that would contain shrimp will include three pieces of jumbo shrimp max and that each shrimp cost $3 .-MIND YOU EVERYTHING ELSE THAT HAD SHRIMP ON THE MENU WAY LESS. After being caught in her lie and way off math proceeded to say actually it's $5 per shrimp.Proceeds to argue that the waitress told us it would be $40 a plate when that was never a thing.(Mind you our plate had 6 shrimps max if that) so now we're responsible for the extra shrimp YOU decided to give us lol. 3*3 is 9 even 3* 5 is 15. How did you randomly charge $20 on top of the cost of the Entree? Here's my issue 1. A substitute is just that no more no less . So why would you give me more shrimp if your substitute would only allow 3 shrimp max?-please see even the appetizers contain more shrimp so this Is a lie.Even still, How are we required to pay additional without notification because you decided to give me what you consider extra" MAKE IT MAKE SENSE! 2. I ordered food via uber eats and it was the best decision I made that whole week. I tried the Lomo Saltado well as the 1/2 rotisserie (peruvian)chicken with plantains and black beans with rice. The plantains were a little soggy and wet for my preferred preparation, but were ripe nonetheless. Everything was so good that Im surprised I didnt try this place sooner. This restaurant is positively delightful. I love ceviche and the ceviche de pescado is absolutely delicious. It is made to perfection. The sweet potato side and corn are exquisite. I am very pleased My fiancé got the special, a trio and he was very pleased. The trio is best shared as it is a sizable portion. I also love their sides. Quaint little Peruvian restaurant. Our waitress was lovely and accommodating. The food was good and the pricing was great. We selected our own seat at arrival. It's helpful if you have a functioning knowledge of and ability to converse in Spanish, as this place is nothing if not authentic. Our waitress was not fluent in English, but she probably speaks as much English as I speak Spanish, so we made it work pretty well. I had the seafood stew, and it was a bit underwhelming. Well, at first we've ordered a dish with I think it was Ronda marina, which was ceviche, arroz con mariscos,jalea, and I can't remember the other one....IT WAS DELICIOUS! Came back for a second time just to check if the flavors still there with a different dish, YUMMI! After a month,we came back for our third visit and BANG! Walking out with happy bellies! The restaurant is on a quaint street in old Gaithersburg. It's small, clean and modern. My friend had the mussels as an appetizer and said they were delicious as was her steak con frios. Food: Chicken was dry and overcooked. I may as well be biting charcoal. Chicha morada was fire as well as the alfajor. Customer Service: Manager needs to get a grip on customer service. I don't know if she was jealous or hates her life but she treated us very rude when we asked to take out an ingredient from a dish. This is something that we casually do if we don't want something on the meal; usually staff says either yes or no and we go from there. Prior to ordering the dish, we asked our waitress if it had a certain ingredient we didn't want. Our waitress responded with "no, this dish does not have this ingredient." So we ordered it. However, when it came out- our dish came with the ingredient we didn't want so we politely asked if it could be replaced, and if it can't then we don't want it. The manager came out and for some reason decided to catch a petty attitude with us. We asked politely yet she wanted to embark in a sarcastic tone when all she could've said was "no, sorry, we can't do that." Instead she said, "I'm not going to sit in the back and take these tiny things off one by one, like that doesn't make sense. The dish comes pre-prepared." and "You should've known what you ordered." Like?? I'm not sure why we caught the short end of the straw. A simple no would've sufficed and we go our ways. This is one of my favorite restaurants in Maryland. My favorite thing on the menu is the Fettuchini de Lomo! It is the best twist on the Lomo Saltado and is pure perfection. My mouth is drooling just writing this review. I actually treat my self here every birthday, because when I was in the lowest point of my adult life a friend took me here for my birthday and it gave me so much joy. All my problems melted away and I was simply in heaven. My friend loves their Pollo Saltado which I tried and also very delicoius but still nothing competes with the Fettuchini de Lomo. I wish they had amazing Peruvian food like this in NOVA. I have to drive over 45 minutes to eat here. read more

We were looking for a good Peruvian restaurant we hadn't gone to before for my mother in laws birthday, and I found this place. It's located on a strip in Gaithersburg. We parked on the street. Inside it's a little small, but it looks very nice! Dark colors, well lit. The menu is pretty big, and they have a lot of options! All traditional Peruvian dishes, desserts, and drinks. We were a party of 7 and tried lots of dishes! I ordered the anticuchos for my appetizer, and a fried ceviche for my food. The anticuchos were sooo good! Everywhere I go to get those, they're missing flavor. I resorted to making them myself at home. Here, that was not the case! They were flavorful and perfectly cooked. The fried ceviche was excellent as well, and you don't find that dish in many Peruvian restaurants so I was happy they had it. My husband and brother ordered pollo Saltado. It was very flavorful, they enjoyed it! Our table as a whole ordered the entrees that I already mentioned along with choros a la chalaca, a chicken sandwich, a half chicken, tamales, papa rellena, and ceviche. For dessert we ordered picarones, and I ordered a Pisco Sour cocktail because I've never tried it before. Everything was excellent! No one had complaints, everyone ate the last bite on their plates and a few of us ordered more meals because of how good they were. The service was also perfect, we spoke with the owners and they informed us that they've only been open for 7 months. We'll definitely be coming back, and spreading the word as well! read more

We were a group of 6 (5 of whom were Peruvians). The restaurant is pleasant, clean, located in a quaint area, with plenty of street-parking. The food was good. The Causa and other appetizers were excellent. The ceviche was good, tasted fresh, but was smothered in onions. The Aji de Gallina was good, but was a little bland. One common refrain from these reviews is the poor service. Although we experienced none of the offensive service others complained about, we found the service to be friendly, but inattentive. All to often our server remained behind the bar, talking to other ladies, while our water glasses remained empty and dirty plates accumulated on the table. The only time she came to the table was when we were able to signal to her. At the end, she brought the check, without offering coffee or dessert. The check included a 15% service charge and the credit card slip to sign included another line for "tip". It is a shame that this restaurant misses the mark on service, otherwise it would be a good contender as one of the better Peruvian restaurants around. read more

We came for a Thursday lunch as a party of 6. Parked across the street and walked over. The restaurant's signage is very low-key and easily missed if you don't pay attention or don't have Google map, etc. The place isn't fancy, and doesn't try to be what it's not. It has a hometown vibe which is appropriate considering it sits right in the middle of downtown Gaithersburg. We ordered a bunch of ceviches, their grilled boneless fish, creamy potato with egg, fried rice, yucca fries, their signature pork dish, beef heart, and the sausage fries (sorry I don't speak Spanish and can't remember the dish names), basically tasting their menu or most of it. Our food took a long time to come out (at least 30 minutes) which made us realize that the restaurant isn't equipped for serving large groups on regular basis. Our waitress did not speak too much English but was very sweet and friendly. She had someone come out to help taking our order. Now the food. Personally, I came here to try their fish ceviche & their fish sashimi-styled, based on the photos I've seen on Yelp. I'd say all their ceviches are very decent. It's not in the same class as Nopalito (where I had the best ceviche) in San Francisco or Rantei in Santa Clara, CA, but it satisfied my craving for ceviches when I was in the area. I enjoyed the fried rice with fried curly noodle topping. Delicious with a fun contrast of soft and crunchy textures. Probably a hit with kids. Grilled boneless trout was well seasoned and juicy, a basic dish done right. Yucca fries were too dry/dehydrated for my taste. I've had better creamy potato with egg else where. I feel like the sauce didn't marry well with the potato. But overall, if I'm in town, I'd come back again for the grilled fish and ceviches and fried rice. read more

I came into the restaurant thinking about doing a carryout order. The staff was so friendly and actually invited me to dine in to get the real experience. I ordered the ceviche pascada and it is hands down the best ive ever had!!! Before this I had ceviche in Punta Cana and that was incredible. This place blows that over by a bajillion! Perfect balance and tons of fish! I'd give this dish 6 stars If I could. I was gonna get the famous Peruvian chicken and the waiter recommended that the shortrib was also a fantastic choice that he would pick over the chicken. I have been ordering from here for a while now and the food has always been fresh and delicious, but my last order was disappointing. I got the ceviche mixto, papa rellano, and leche asada. The papa relleno and leche asada were delicious. However, when I opened up the ceviche mixto right away I noted a foul/rancid odor. I touched a shrimp and fish piece and both were slimy. I got a better wiff of the fish and it had clearly gone bad. I ended up throwing out the entire dish even though the rest looked okay. This was very disappointing because I have order the ceviche mixto many times from Rincon Peruano and it's always been fresh and delicious. I dislike rating a place low because I know how much work goes into a business. I just couldn't do it with this restaurant and I really wanted to like it. I ordered ceviche mixto and a quarter chicken with fries and plaintains. The good: the fries were crispy and perfect! The plaintains were cooked so that they were delicious but they weren't greasy as I've had in other places. The chicken tasted good! The waitress was attentive and did a great job. The restaurant was nice and clean. No complaints! The bad - everything else. The ceviche didn't taste good at all. I really tried to like it but I just couldn't. It had an odd taste and I thought "maybe I'm being critical of the ceviche given that it's my country's staple". So I kept eating it. Eventually I thought "if I had to order it again would I?" No I wouldn't. I'd order ceviche from Guapos before this place. So I left thinking it would not be my first place to visit but perhaps not my last. I ordered a rice and milk desert which I couldn't wait to eat until I got home. Upon opening it and trying it I realized it was spoiled. I went to this establishment for take out and I can honestly say the chicken was tasty, the plantains were on point, the fries were good but they felt looked like fries you get at wendys and the chaufa rice I am disappointed about, the reason why is because when I picked up the food I saw the guy put the rice in the container then put it in the microwave to heat it up, that took me by surprise that they did it infront of me. Maybe because there was no one there and probably turned the heater off on the rice. Really who knows! I will say the yellow sauce was average to watery for my taste and the green sauce was super yucky... This was my first time eating there and I was a little nervous because I hadn't tried any Peruvian style seafood dishes, just charbroiled chicken, but the owner/manager reassured me I would love it... and she was right! I ordered the Trucha Frits which is boneless fried trout w/ black beans, yuca and my favorite; Sara's criollos (Peruvian style onion salad). The fish was cooked perfectly and the sides were delicious. My husband had the Pollo a La Brasa w/ white rice and yuca and he was very pleased as well. I really liked that their menu was pescatarian friendly and that they had quinoa substitutions for rice.
