Hate that they have a POS system that charges you tax if you use a card but I really enjoy this place. Been here a few times. Their margaritas are not made with the sugary sweet stuff they may serve elsewhere. The tamarind is omg! The tacos are also super tasty and filling. Sad they close so early! This place is fantastic. The decor is great, the ambiance is inviting, and the food is light, fresh, and delicious. I heard about this place through a friend and went to check it out since it's right around the corner from me. I ended up sitting at the bar and talking with Jamie, the manager/bartender (not sure her title) the whole time. She was an absolute treat to talk to, and really made my experience that much better. If you're looking for a great date spot, this place is perfect. Food comes out in a timely manner, there's a full bar, and again, the lighting is just bright and just dark enough. The food and margaritas are fantastic and relatively cheap. Definitely recommend the food (although the chips are a little... dense/healthy tasting? IMO). The place is a pretty chaotic and loud. And unfortunately the backyard is kind of ruined by the neighboring establishment's giant and loud AC. The service could be better. I get that it's a tacqueria and no frills, but little things like making eye contact while you're taking an order/ringing it up, or apologizing after you slosh water on our table or yell at us about an order that isn't even ours, go a long way. $25 dollar minimum I can deal with, but only if the order comes correct, and the delivery person has change for me. He looked at me and said, "you don't have change"?! I told him he nicely he is wasting his time coming to cash orders without change. He had to leave and go find change and waste prime delivery order time for no reason at all. It makes no sense to me. After not just being ignored, but blatantly refused service at Bizarre Bar across the street (cause we aren't hipsters), my wife and I discovered La Lupe. The food was EXCELLENT, the SERVICE was FRIENDLY, and the environment was FESTIVE. The negative comments you see here are from Millennials, Hipsters, and Trust Fund kids who expect you to kiss their ass and stroke their undeserved egos. Unfortunately, this neighborhood has been invaded by arrogant assholes who think the world revolves around them. They have no understanding that there are families who have lived here for generations. These kids walk around with an attitude like they own the place. They think that just because they read Bushwick is a cool neighborhood on some gay ass social media blog post, they can waltz in and be a dick. For those of us who have lived here for nearly two decades, and the families who have grown up here, we behave like adults and treat our fellow man with courtesy and respect. If the children invading the neighborhood on mommy and daddy's credit card were raised right, and behaved like adults, the world would be a better place. More to the point, if you are respectful and courteous to quality restaurants like La Lupe, the service you receive will be respectful and courteous in return. If you want to behave like an asshole and like being ignored and disrespected, go to Bizarre Bar across the street and let the hipster bartenders who are too busy to care cause they're watching Youtube on their iPhones, not serve you. read more

I enjoyed this place the few times I went. Good drinks and good food. This weeks visit made me disappointed. I came here for lunch with a friend this week and the lady told me its still closed. I was annoyed because its supposed to open at 12- and thats the time I arrived (12:05PM). She told me that it will open at in half hour. I hope they get their hours straight so I can get their lunch! So delicious! I went with my family- we got the chicken bowl, the falutas, the astonishingly good grilled corn, and best of all, the Mexican burger. Everything was somewhere between terrific (the flautas) and mind-blowing (the Mexican burger holy oh my god).. Guacamole and chips were also really good, though perhaps a bit skimpy for the cost. We were staying down the street from La Lupe and decided to drop in around 8PM for a quick dinner on our way back. It was a weeknight, but there were quite a few people dining in and sitting at the bar. We had a margarita with chips and salsa (pico de gallo), a quesadilla, and carne asada burrito. The food was just okay, nothing spectacular, although we were able to punch up the flavor with their tasty bottled salsa (particularly the salsa verde). The margarita was $10, which seems awfully overpriced for what it was. You both order and pick up your food near the bar and bus your own table. All in all, we left without much of an impression or desire to return. read more

My fiancee ordered their signature burger - I took a bite as well, it is absolutely delicious. The balance of creamy, spicy, crunchy, soft, salty - was just lovely. Spot on. I ordered the chorizo bowl and while it was tasty, the chorizo lacked spice and that indicative fatty goodness that comes when you allow yourself to eat such a fattening option. The guacamole was delicious, lime infused, and fresh. My gripe is that I have it specifically noted to call upon arrival... 25 minutes after the email quoted delivery time, I called. Apparently the delivery guy had been here already, there seemed to be some confusion, and the food wasn't as hot as it could have been. We will definitely give this place another try, but maybe with a different protein in the burrito bowl. read more

Have only had tacos and coffee here, but both are the real deal and the tacos are very delicious. (Think excellent taco truck but with a groovy place to sit/meet up with friends.) Decor is casual and authentic, fun Mexican. The place gets pluses for ecological distribution of post-meal utensils and having a cute bathroom. Back porch is nice too (only drawback being the vent letting out onto it). Heating system could be more consistent. Worth the schlep from Manhattan or other parts of BKLN - just off Broadway/Myrtle J/M/Z. Quiet and relaxing during the weekday; assuming it gets popular at night. read more

I've tried the place many times now because it's close by and every time the food has been disappointing. It's just lazy. I ate here recently. I've lived in Bushwick for years, and always try to make it out to support new business owners, and hopefully find a really awesome spot. I realize that yelp can both help and harm a business, and I appreciate that the owner seems to really care about their business by responding personally to the reviews. Which is why I give them three stars. But jesus lady, you aren't going to grow your business by replying with sarcastic and nasty messages to people who didn't even really give it terrible reviews, just constructive criticism. That's what yelp is for. Just stop reading them. I will not go into detail on my meal there other than to say I was totally willing to return to have drinks or something, maybe a taco, but the owner has been so defensive and unwelcoming with her responses that I don't feel like I need to go back to see if it'll get better.
