I am surprised to see that this amazing cafe has only 3 stars. I have been wanting to check this place out for a few years now and I finally did today. It was sooooo good. The ambiance is so cute. It literally looks like a European cafe on the inside. The service was quick and they were very helpful. The prices were on pointe. We will definitely be back soon! My friend ordered the four cheese pasta and she loved it. I stole a bite and it was cheesy, gooey, and had a breadcrumb crust. It was delicious! I got a half Cesar sandwich with a strawberry feta salad. It was very tasty and $22 for lunch. That's unreal these days. Before leaving we obviously had to try dessert. We both got mini chocolate tarts and they were to die for. I can't wait to go back and try more food. Cheers! read more

Many years ago, I stepped into my first La Madeline in Alexandria, VA. It was amazing. It's been 20+ years. Stepped into the Uptown branch a few days ago. Years ago it was more of a cafeteria style ordering, not so today. Quality is not as good either. My country breakfast was good, croissant was not as flaky as I like them. My husband only has a croissant, and he agreed. My Americana was ok. Not as rich as I like it. Service was very good on the day I was there. The pastries are consistently a 10 out of 10. The issue is the staff. At times, the energy comes across as frustrated, and it shows in how the pastries are handled and packaged, which is disappointing. I bought a holiday log for Christmas and we are regular customers, so this is not a one off experience. I even tested whether a generous tip would change the tone. It did not. That said, I appreciate the military discount, the shop is always clean, and there is always something genuinely delicious on the menu. I just wish the care put into the pastries matched the care put into customer interaction. 8/10 recommend read more

We've been here a few times now and it's a great cafe! Pastries are so yummy, croissants taste authentic flaky and buttery. Think Panera vibes with better food. The tomato bisque soup is SO good especially now in the fall; you can buy it in a jar. We also tried the croque monsieur which is very rich and creamy. The wait time has been very long the few times we visited for dine in and take out. I ordered ahead and it still took an additional 30 min which was kind of annoying. The staff has been very friendly and they ran out of the Nutella muffin. The girl at the register told me I can swap it and I chose the chocolate croissant. The restaurant is ok. There's plenty of parking spots, so you never have to worry about not finding a spot for your car. I also like that their menu has quite a bit of items to choose from. There's something light..or something more heavy...and you can opt for lunch or breakfast items at any time of the day. The only thing was just that service was hit or miss and price may not be the cheapest. It also may be a little confusing. One orders/pays at the counter, get a number for your order, and grab a seat (where the staff can bring out whatever you order to your table). Food tastes ok, but can be a lil on a pricier side. I went here for the third or fourth time ever, and my disappointment with today's meal is huge. First, I ordered the mushroom thing that was sitting on the warming plate, and I knew that I had made a mistake when I saw the server trying to cut it in half---she was sawing away at the piece like it was a piece of leather. When it got to me, it was almost cold, the "mushroom topping" that was supposed to cover it was in a separate small container and it wasn't hot. The actual piece was so tough that I could not cut through the puff pastry with a knife, so I had to pick it up to eat it. It was woefully lacking in both mushrooms and chicken--mostly that tough puff pastry - it was obviously overcooked and then sat on the warming try to cook it some more. I also ordered a chocolate almond croissant to bring home for later. I just got through warming it up to melt the chocolate inside, and I ran into the same issue - I could not cut through it with a table knife, and ended up picking it up to eat with my fingers. I also had trouble taking a bite off the croissant, and I am very disappointed, The chocolate croissants I buy at Albertson's are 100 times better than this travesty that cost $5.00. Additionally, the "salad" they provided with the 3-piece meal was nothing but a pile of some sort of green stuff with the dressing poured over it. The forks in this place are so dull that the one I had could not penetrate the green stuff, and every time I tried to take a bite, I ended up with greenery and or nut meats in my lap. It was a very unsatisfying lunch--my son had the four-cheese grilled cheese and a bowl of potato soup (I also had the soup as my third part of the 3-piece meal, and it was very good with the bacon and cheese on top). But this meal with tip was over $40.00, and I did NOT get my money's worth. I should have stuck with the quiche--at least I KNOW that is good and edible. read more

I also ordered a regular latte; I was charged for and received a double. The food was fine, well seasoned and fresh, but the croissant was the only French-ish thing on the plate. The card system was "broke" and we sat down. The woman at the register sat back down with her friends. No employees were present at food prep area. One of the workers could be seen in the kitchen entrance on her cell phone- not talking but looking at??? After 15 minutes still nobody was in food prep. At the register was a family who was going through the process of getting the best deal possible and wasted more time. This time the young lady taking the order realized we were going to leave and we had not paid. My wife was able to make the payment. One of the employees stated to us that he wasn't in any rush as he is paid by the hour. The cell phone employee came out and began to work on multiple orders in food prep area. Another couple were seated 5 minutes Before us and they had not received their order. We finally received our order. French onion soup was good. Chicken Caesar salad was good. The turkey sandwich was room temperature, had hard bread and looked as it was premade and not what we expect from LM. We come here a few times a year and the food is always solid. Tonight was no exception. The customer service is hit and miss; unfortunately tonight was a miss. Cadence and Keylin were working the front of the restaurant and they were not the friendliest. They're both young so I thought maybe they had a rough day at school, or maybe someone called in and they were short staffed. Keylin seemed generally impatient with every customer and coworker. The place was basically empty when we came in and we were still told to sit down while we looked at the menu even though nobody was behind us in line. Several tables needed to be bussed and someone pulled out the mop and bucket when we were going to sit down which basically communicated to sit somewhere else. The mop and bucket sat out untouched the whole time we were eating. Service was slow even though there was nobody here and there didn't appear to be any to go orders. I used to live in Texas and have always enjoyed La Madeleine. But the ABQ location is just a hot mess. I ordered the thanksgiving sampler, usually a great dish. Turkey was fine. But The green beans were burnt to a crisp and tasted like an ash tray (see pic). Also, sorry to say it, but it doesn't seem over-clean. And they were out of paper goods. Service is very hit or miss. Folks ask why I tend to stay the hell away from chain/franchise restaurants and la Madeleine provides the answer that questions to a tee. Located at the ass end of Target, you enter though a filthy parking lots= and into a dark, uninviting dinning room. It's all counter service which is a little confusing. I've NEVER experienced this during my many trips to Paris. Menu is pretty limited and I'd guess along with the soups everything comes in frozen, but for the salads. But I bet corporate is looking at way to freeze lettuce and safe on labor. Once food is ordered and you've tipped. The table wear and beverage are self serve. What did I just tip for?? First of all, love the atmosphere. It is beautiful decorated and quite warm, and I don't just mean from the fireplace. The whole room feels like home. We went in and waited for our group to areive. When they came, we ordered. I got a Quiche Florentine. The pie crust was buttery and flaky, the quiche easy to dive into, but the taste was quite bland. I found that disappointing and had to add salt, which I never have to do. My husband ordered the Chicken Riviera with French Onion Soup, and requested no cheese. They delivered a cheese filled dish and we had to send it back. He did say the sandwhich was tasty, but the soup was just so-so, like the flavor had sank to the bottom of the pot at the end of a long day sitting. This restaurant has a ton of potential under new management. I never saw anyone in charge walking around or greeting. The desserts look amazing, but I came here for breakfast. It was a good breakfast but not a great breakfast. The bacon was paper thin and crumbled as soon as I bit into it. The croissant did not have a lot of puff pastry. The coffee was mediocre for over $3.00. The thing that got me was I went to pour coffee at the coffee/soda station and saw several small ants everywhere. When I went to tell the busser, I wasn't sure he had even heard me due to having earphones in his ears, and he did not address this situation immediately, if at all. I should mention I sat with a friend who also said it was a fair breakfast as it was her first time here. The fireplace was the highlight and the cleanliness of the dining room but I'm unsure if I would come back especially for a $15 breakfast and coffee. read more

I typically love La Madeleine but not so much at this location. I would just opt for Weck's next time. Everything is standard as far as the food went. EXCEPT I am super frustrated with La Madeleine in general for having removed the Eggs Benedict (which was briefly renamed as Persian Eggs). If it hadn't been for the Chocolate Almond Croissant I would have just turned around and walked out. Patio seating was available BUT there was not a designated person monitoring or facilitating it. We go to the patio seating and there is only 1 seat available in the direct sun - but there is another seat in the shade but it has dirty dishes piled on it. I went inside to inquire about the shade table being cleaned and after sitting in the sun table for a bit waiting, someone comes to clean the dishes. I won't go into detail about his comments to us regarding how we shouldn't have sat at another table because he now had to clean that one as well. Really the negative experience is not that employee's fault. There seem to be processes that have not been taught or not implemented, and they seemed understaffed. I won't be back to this La Madeleine and aside from the Chocolate Almond Croissant I may not be back at all - which breaks my heart! read more

4.5 stars I've been wanting to try this place for awhile. We opted to go last minute early afternoon on Friday. The handicap parking was very accessible and close to the door. The cafeteria style was interesting and they had a sign up that they were hiring (which there was no distinction between pick up orders and where to place an order and it took a little while to grab an extra box and for some of the tables to be wiped down). The pastry case had already been picked over, but there was still quite a variety left. We got two of the single hot chocolates and two pain au chocolat (one warmed up and one to save for later)- all for $16. The hot chocolate was some of the best we've had! Rich and creamy, topped with whipped cream and chocolate sauce. I can't imagine what the double might've looked like. There were mostly ladies getting together for book clubs and a few college students at the time. I saw most had ordered a sandwich/salad or soup combo. (The mom and son standing in front of us in line recommended the French onion soup). The decor wasn't quite French minus the little stand towards the front. There were some Christmas trees and decorations and were we able to snag a seat by the fire. Perfect ambiance. The outdoor bistro tables were cute and would be perfect to spend summer days out on the patio. I'm sad I missed the chance to try some of the pumpkin items on the menu.
