Let me start by saying that I'm not the biggest fan of "cafeteria" style places - meaning, placing you order and then picking up your food once it's ready. I just normally prefer a waiter service. With that said though, I was super impressed by the friendliness and quality of food at this restaurant. The place was very clean and they bused the tables quickly as people left. We didn't have to wait very long at all for our food to be ready and it was delivered to our tables. Both my husband and I really loved what we ordered. The best part was the creme brûlée tart I ordered from the bakery case. It was amazing!! I can see myself stopping in for one of those every now and then. This was my first time at La Madeleine and I'm sure I will be back again soon! The menu has plenty of choices for breakfast, lunch, and dinner and was very vegetarian friendly. La Madeleine also has a bakery with a large assortment of pastries and fresh bread. I went with a friend for lunch and we sat outside on the outdoor patio, which shaded us from the heat and was surrounded by beautiful rose bushes. This place has some amazingly tasty food. I love their strawberry crepes, their egg crepe is also wonderful. Basically I use to sit and work here for at least 2-3 days a week. So I have tried pretty much everything on the menu. Love the fact that ice tea and coffee have unlimited free refills. Free bread and delicious strawberry jelly. Friands are tasty too. I am not the one to usually write reviews but the service at this location was phenomenal! The gentleman working the cash register was very helpful and encouraged me to get a refillable cup opposed to a bottled sprite in order to get the best for my money! At the end of the transaction he thanked me for being polite and gave us a complimentary piece of cake (which was great!) He was very personable and easy to have a conversation with! Visited Monday afternoon. We usually go to the location on Great Hills Trail, but decided to come the one on Barbara Jordan. Never again. The manager is very rude, cursed, and threw our desserts on the counter. Very impatient with us after we were ordering about 10 desserts to go. His associate was also very rude and said she didn't care how we felt and sided with the manager after he cursed. They said he is the manager and there's nobody to complain to. The service area (those cleaning up) were very pleasant but the manager and those at the front need to be removed from customer service. If you want to eat at La Madeleine, visit the one up north. I was planning on throwing a holiday party and had everything ordered but needed to find a place that delivered green beans and mashed potatoes as a side dish to go with the main dishes I was picking up elsewhere. I stumbled upon La Madeleine and saw they had green beans, mashed potatoes, and a wild mushroom sauce that sounded perfect. However, having not eaten at La Madeleine more than 1-2 times in the last 10 years or so I wanted to check it out before committing to serving it to 20 guests. I decided to invite a friend to lunch to come and check it out with me. Once we walked in the two girls in front of us grabbed two menus to look over and I looked around and didn't find any additional menus. I walked up and asked the woman at the register and she said those were all the menus. I clarified that there were only two menus in the entire restaurant and then she was able to find some additional ones for us. After a few minutes of looking at the menu away from the register we walked up to place our order. Once at the register the woman was trying to figure something out with another coworker. This lasts a good 2-3 minutes without them looking up once to say "we will be with you in a minute" or "so sorry we are trying to XYZ". A minute later another worker walked by and again without looking at us she asked the other worker to take care of us at a different register. So without actually being directed by someone we walked over to a different register. Once at the register I had a few questions since I'm pregnant and have to be careful about what I eat. I asked if the Caesar dressing had raw egg in it. To which she replied "that is our house dressing" I repeated my question about two more times and got the same answer both times before finally saying "I understand this is your house dressing. All I need to know is if there is raw egg in it can you please ask your chef" she was super confused and grabbed another coworker. The second coworker went to the front display and grabbed the bottles of Caesar dressing and started reading the ingredients. I informed her that bottled salad dressing is required by law to have pasteurized egg in it so regardless of what that bottle says it really doesn't answer my question. She then said "yeah it does have egg" to which I repeated that bottled salad dressing egg is pasteurized but I'm asking about the dressing they use in house and she said they use the bottle dressing. Unsure if that was true or not I decided against the salad. Also, if that was really true it is kind of a shame that your house salad dressing comes from a bottle. I had several more questions but didn't expect anyone to know the answer so I ended up ordering something that I didn't end up eating just because it seemed safe. I did also end up ordering the mashed potatoes, green beans, and gravy to try even though I was definitely wary at this point in at least the reliability of ordering catering through La Madeline. Review on the food was that my lunch itself was not good (quiche and salad). The mashed potatoes needed to be seasoned in general, along with the green beans which seemed steamed with no seasoning as opposed to being sautéed with a little oil. The only thing that tasted really great was the wild mushroom sauce which I coated the mashed potatoes with in order to get them down. Ultimately after the poor experience in the restaurant and the food not being good we passed on using them for catering and won't be back. read more

I was in the shopping center of this place and wandered in on a whim. By the name alone, I was expecting something fancy and bougie, lol. I was pleasantly surprised by the casual set up, yet slightly disappointed by the ordering process. You grab a menu when you walk in and order at the counter like a fast food restaurant. The young lady at the counter seemed baffled about something or other and wasn't pleasant, not rude, but not nice either. I had the American breakfast with scrambled eggs, sausage and a croissant. The eggs and sausage were delicious. However, the croissant was slightly cooler than room temperature and I was expecting it to be warm (still tasty). My daughter had crêpes romanoff and loved it. I attended the soft opening of La Madeleine today for breakfast with some coworkers. We're excited to have a new breakfast and lunch spot in Mueller! The space in new, clean, airy, and bright. The staff were all very friendly and patient, as they're still in training. Staff took our orders quickly, you get a number, and they deliver the food to your table. I tried the almond croissant, which was flaky, just the right amount of sweet, and delicious! My coworker enjoyed the bran muffin and fruit and yogurt parfait. I also ordered the omelet with egg whites, onion, mushroom, and cheddar. It was fluffy and flavorful. The baguette was crispy on the outside and soft on the inside. Another coworker enjoyed the quiche. The only tip for new managers - it seemed difficult for the staff to see the numbers for food orders on the tables. Maybe they light up or buzz in the future and they're not working yet, but I felt bad for some of the staff wandering around, trying to see the numbers on the small device. La Madeleine will be a new go-to place for breakfast and lunch! read more

Finally a La Madeline closer to campus! This is probably the first location I've seen that doesn't have the normal cafeteria line set up. Here, you order your food at the register and they give you an electronic pager thing. I was expecting it to ring when my food was ready but it didn't and a waiter just brought it to me. Chicken Caesar salad is delicious, as always, and the bread station is hidden on the other side of the drink station. Overall, a nice location with big windows. It doesn't seem to get too crowded either so it'd probably be a good place to get some work done. read more

La Madeleine has been my favorite soup, breakfast, dessert, salad and sandwich spot for the last 4 years. I spent three years living minutes away from one La Madeleine restaurant I've got addicted to their French onion soup, mushroom soup, tuna croissant sandwich, mini parfaits, and strawberry romanoff. Then I moved to Austin and craved every single item in their menu up until they open the Barbara Jordan location. Now I eat there every now and then and every single time I go there, I feel like I am being tested and my third eye will open if I pass all of these tests. The cashiers are out of this planet. We can't communicate. "Do you have more fruit tarts " takes them 15 minutes to answer. 90% of the time they successfully manage to take my orders incorrectly. I am always prepared for surprises: Where is my coffee? There is no coffee in your order. Where is my soup? There is no soup in your order. They are always inattentive. Every time I enter to this restaurant I feel like they are busy curing cancer, or working on the next mission to Mars in that kitchen and I am interrupting them for my earthly delights. They manage to ignore someone standing right in front of the cashier for 10 minutes. I keep coming just because I like their food. They fail at everything else.Their Brodie and Round Rock locations are much better in terms of service. read more

Food was great. Good-size portions for the price. Ambience was great. No long lines. Complimentary self-serve sourdough bread and jams. What else could you want? They're famous for their tomato-basil soup. And it is awesome. I had a half sandwich with a cup of tomato-basil and it was the perfect amount of food (especially with all the complimentary bread and jam). My hubs had the beef bougignon and it was spot-on. Everything we ordered tasted great, which rarely happens. This location is never crowded, and there's plenty of parking and plenty of tables. I think this would make an excellent alternative to your standard coffee-shop. It still has that "cafe" feel, but you can order different foods if you want more than just a sandwich or pastry. Everything is self-serve, which I also prefer. So try it out and do your studying there with endless cups of coffee and complimentary sourdough bread and jam. I went with a few coworkers and everyone got something different and a desert. we waited maybe 9 minutes for our food which wasn't bad at 12:20 which is prime lunch time. I got the paella. ive had other paella before and I was expecting something spicey and saucy. this was drive and not spicey. it was good but not great. the desert was great. so this spot will get 3 stars until I go back and order something new.
