Food is pretty good. Nothing spectacular but should hit the spot for a weekday brunch craving. The environment is cozy and makes you feel like your in the french countryside. Prices are okay, wish it was a bit cheaper for the food you get. I plan on going back again. Always crowded, food is consistent, staff, meh. Our staples are the salads which are fresh, quiche, chicken, sandwiches/soup and of course dessert. The 6 mini tarts are the ticket for dessert, especially the cheese cake. They were struggling with ringing up items -- could have been a hung over/new employee. Having waited for the items for a party of 6 to be brought to the table-within 25 minutes a staff person started cleaning off our table when 2 folks from the party excused themselves and weaved through the crowd to go to the facilities. Understand how fast an establishment wants to turn over a table, but for the love of...leave us be, yep I should have taken my tip off the table. read more

ordering was a bit confusing, we didn't know to get our drinks before or after placing our order. With a party of 7, finding a place to enjoy our food was quite the challenge. Finally our food, I ordered the Parisian eggs Benedict. Bacon and ham were sprinkled on the bottom of my well done poached eggs, smothered with what seemed a grainy hollandaise sauce( powder) very bland. Ordered a side of potato galette, over prices cold, bland hash brown patty with onion and green bell pepper. Brunch might not be their strong menu, their pastas looked delicious. I always have wonderful service at this restaurant- with the food being consistent and my order always being correct. I know the menu and ordering process can be confusing for people sometimes, but once you get the hang of things, it goes really well. The staff is friendly at all times, and very helpful. I love the food, but can see how it could be deemed too salty or heavy to others. If you like their food, you'll keep coming back to this location- as they have free wifi, yummy lattes, free bread and a cozy ambiance. Not the best place for kids, as loud noises can travel well there, and there's not a place for them to play about. Good place for well behaved kids who aren't picky eaters. read more

I LOVE this place. The food is wonderful if you like french cuisine. My most favorite meal at La Madeleine is the grilled chicken Caesar salad. The chicken is chopped into small pieces but it is very juicy and tender and the Caesar dressing is my favorite of any other restaurant. They also have very fresh fruits and the Quiche Lorraine is excellent. The seating can get a bit crowded in this location and the service line can be hard to get around when you are trying to find a seat but the food is very good. read more

First, the food was great as always if not a tad overpriced. Still a great meal and the employees at the counter provided fabulous customer service. When we meet we specifically look for venues that have counter service and tables that can accommodate at least 8 people. La Madeleine seemed to fit the bill. Unfortunately the acoustics in the restaurant were terrible for conversation. Not much La Madeleine can do about that issue, but it's something to consider when organizing future meetings. When we got to the restaurant to arrange tables the entire area was a mess. The area hadn't been bussed. The floor was sticky in some spots and slippery in others. The tables were in disrepair and we had to stick sugar packets under the base to steady the table enough to eat on it. I believe this is something that is within the control of the business. Even during a busy time those things need to be addressed in order to maintain the flow of business. So overall meh, but I'd go back again to meet a friend for lunch. I don't think we'll go back for meeting though. read more

Sad to say but the Madeleine at Great Hills is going down hill. I have been coming to this location for over 14 years and I always loved it but my last 4 visits have been BAD. To start there's usually a young man at the salad bar that takes your order in a very grouchy mood almost as if you are bothering him, when he starts making your salad you can see he is just annoyed... I don't know but it is a horrible feeling to have someone mad making your food in front of you, oh and he also gets annoyed if you ask to get soup as it seems it would be more work for him. He also has kinda long hair so It doesn't seem sanitary to be preparing food, definitely not a clean cut appearance. One time he prepared my caesar salad with sooo much croutons in it that it seems like a breadcrumb salad with some lettuce. He was there 3 out of the 4 last visits. Last Saturday 02/16/19 there was a young lady at the salad bar who also seemed very annoyed to take my order she just made my dinner experience feel so blahh...I wondered, am I paying to be treated as if I am asking for free soup? I hope someone at the restaurant reads this. It is sad to see this location going down hill. The employees do not seem happy at all, and that includes the managers, during one of my visits the line was so long because there was only one person (same young man mentioned above) taking orders and taking payments while the two managers on site just kept passing back and forth by the kitchen but not batting an eyelash.. few minutes later the both managers got their dinner break (apparently) and sat at a table behind me ... the line was still long and the same guy was still not being helped with the orders. I used to LOVE this place. I would go in and get a seat by the fire (at the arboretum location), and eat my egg crepe champinion whith a cup of coffee. But a lot has changed in the last 12 months. I've seen a consistent change over in the saff. There is never the same person twice. The new manager is pushy and a bit loud. When I ordered a side of two eggs, I was charge for a whole French breakfast without the bacon. Worst thing of all, my favorite dish, the egg crepe champinion has been removed from the menu .There will never be a need for me to go back. I will miss the good times. read more

A great mainstay in North Austin and it's good that they're expanding across the city. The place is great for brunch, lunch, tea-time, dinner and dessert. It's obvious because they get quite busy for, lunch and dinner pretty much any day of the week and for breakfast and brunch on the weekends. Their beef bourguignon with mashed potatoes is a moorish dish and ideal for a mid-week winter dinner. The Salad Sampler is value for money idea - it's like a 3 course meal with a choice of soup, salad & dessert for $7.99 I hope they always keep that option on the menu. We've catered a few of their sides for our holiday parties over the last 5 years & have always been satisfied. The Sacher Torte, Mixed Fruit Tart are our go to desserts for events. Excellent breakfast croissant sandwich and blueberry muffin. I judge a bakery by their staples like: croissants, muffins, and chocolate chip cookies. This La Madeline location didn't disappoint. The croissant sandwich was excellent - very fresh, flaky, buttery croissant with a generous scrambled egg, ham, and melted cheese filling. The blueberry muffin was very good - warm and flavorful. The customer service at this location is on point! I'm specifically talking about Chawky. I am a delivery driver and when an item was going to take 10 minutes longer to make he offered options, then when the customer wanted to wait he offered me a beverage. Lol I think I'm hooked on their mango tea now. He was kind, generous, and really made something that could've been frustrating into an enjoyable moment. I've only had cookies there, which are delicious, but I talked to a customer and she has been eating their food for 23 years... I'm thinking that's a great recommendation for the quality of food. I'll be trying it myself before long and even though this location isn't the closest one to me I'll gladly drive further after the service I received here. read more

I have never in my life experienced the type of service I did this morning. I wanted to treat my boyfriend to a nice French breakfast and he had never been to a La Madelines before. So we met up and went to one close to his place. The woman behind the register could not understand anything we said and then kept telling us everything that we wanted on the menu wasn't available. How is breakfast not available at 8:30am on a Saturday morning? Then I order the cafe sampler but guess what they have no soup ready??? How? they open at 6:30 in the morning! Next stop our payment we order one coffee and three regular drinks our total seems very high for the four of us (him, me plus two kids). Sit down and my quiche comes out first hard and stale and they forgot my side salad. Smh. Next they bring out 3 coffees, why would we need three coffees? It's two adults and two children(but now we know where the extra charge came from). So she takes two back and then accidentally spills scalding coffee all over my boyfriend and doesn't even apologize, ARE YOU KIDDING ME???Next comes his "country breakfast" he had subbed the eggs for ham. I SHIT YOU NOT they went and pulled out cold rolled up ham from a box and gave it to him with a croissant and two cut tomato ends... but forgot his bacon and his potato pancake. How??? It was the literal worst experience I've ever had and the only woman who was fluent in English seemed so bothered and annoyed that I would ask her for help when no one else could understand me. So to salvage the horrific experience we just had I was like "I'll buy everyone a tart", because they're premade and sitting right there in the glass case ready to go, right? No this bitch proceeds to open a freezer and pull out six FROZEN ass tarts when there's an entire display of thawed ones!!! I cannot even stress how ridiculous of an experience this was. Went there with a friend for a quick bite at 9 pm and they closed at 10pm so we thought it was OK. The rude girl behind the counter gave us quite a dirty look as if to say she was resentful that we arrived so near closing time. I saw her exchanging glances with the other staff members, openly laughing at us, as if customers who ate there were idiots. We ordered two crepe entrees and they arrived cold and very hastily thrown together. Absolutely uneatable. All the while, the staff was noisily placing chairs upside down on tables, stacking floor mats and runners near us, very clearly giving us the bum's rush. This is at 9:20 pm, mind you, and their closing time is 10 pm. We were shocked and appalled at this unprofessional behavior. The staff obviously is poorly trained and had no idea how to behave in a courteous and acceptable manner to customers. We saw them laughing with each other as they made as much noise as they could to shoo us out. I can honestly say that this was the worst service of any restaurant that I have ever patronized, and that includes McDonald's and any other fast food joint. My friend and I are of Asian racial background, and although I am reluctant to cite the race card, it did feel a bit racist in this case. We were actually a bit overdressed for the occasion, but not overly so, because we had originally intended to go to a posh local restaurant called Truluck's, yet opted for something more casual. We tried to be friendly and pleasant to their staff, but were met with such sheer rudeness that we were stunned. This particular Austin location for this restaurant chain reflects very poorly on the franchise as a whole, and I would advise the owner to re-train their staff and teach them the meaning of "customer service" and "service with a smile". read more

My ladyfriend says they have the best tomato soup ever, but I haven't had it. I also enjoy their lunch meal deal, since they offer a small serving of salad, a half sandwich, and a small serving of soup for a good price. What would a trip to Texas be without a visit to La Madeleine? This review is only limited to their breakfast menu. I've visited the La Madeleine location in San Antonio and found this location very comparable. I ordered the scrambled egg crepe with a cream mushroom sauce and the b/f had the croissant with scrambled egg, cheese and bacon. Both were reasonably priced, satisfying and good. This is a "self-serve" type of establishment. You order at the counter and bring your tray to the table of your choice after stopping at the counter to gather your silverware and drinks. The server brings your order to your table - but that's about it for service. Getting your coffee fix is always a must in the morning. They offer both French Roast and an American type coffee. I personally like the French Roast - and apparently many of the other patrons in the restaurant did also! The French Roast container seemed to empty fast - and eventually as each person came by to fill their cup, it was obvious that the container need to replaced. After watching each person go by trying to squeeze those last few drops of French roast into their coffee cup, I went to the cashier to tell her that the container needed to be refreshed. I received a curt "The girl will be by to change it." So, I waited and watched a few more painful minutes as each person tried to fill their cup. A camera would have been great to record the facial expressions of each person trying to catch each precious drop of French roast into their cup. I finally got the attention of one of the bus people - and she cheerily replaced the container. Aaah - the feel of fresh coffee once more surging through my veins! La Madeleine is definitely a place where Austin locals frequent. The food is good and the atmosphere comfortable. read more
