    Cozy cafe

Came back after many many years! I was craving their pomegranate chicken and it did not disappoint. Tender, fall off the bone with that sweet pomegranate sauce. Divine! Lemon soup was refreshing and comforting. Hummus was super silky, my hummus mousse! Get extra warm pita. Moroccan mint tea was heavenly and the baklava perfectly flaky, not drenched in syrup. Loved the strawberries with it. Homey decor feels like a little corner souk cafe. Random but familiar. Fast service without compromising quality. Thank you Kai! So happy to be back! :-)

Cute restaurant with great service and food. I walk by here often but it's always so busy. The staff is very friendly and the food was so tasty. I came for lunch so it was a good amount of food. Outdoor seating is great on a sunny day with my dog.

What an amazing place! First of all the service is so great and their recommendations are 10/10! I would come back for just the service! But then also the food is 10/10! Everything they recommend was fantastic. We went with the mezze platter for 1 person instead of 2 and then also ordered chicken/beef kebabs. Everything was so amazing and I will definitely come back. The place is small but very cozy. Make a reservation just to be safe! Will come back.

There's no doubt about it, this OG mediterranean place is the trifecta: authentic food that doesn't try too hard, attentive and passionate service, great prices OH and bonus... 15$ corkage fee. the tables outside are very cozy w overhead heaters if you want a little people watching or dining with your doggie cheers

Not sure if it was because it was a big order or it was during their rush hour, but my to go order was incorrect. Ordered their east plate: mixed greens w/ feta, chicken, lamb, and falafel. I got like four or five pieces of greens with no feta. Got the chicken, did not get the lamb or falafel. Got the spinach thing and a dessert and hummas. Got their side of sauces too. Chicken was pretty good, but a bit on the dry side, the hummas and side of sauces helped. The spinach was good, had nice and crispy wrap. Dessert one was good, think it was baklava? Not sure I'd try take out again, maybe dine in.

Food: A+ Service: A++ Vibes: A+ Love this place. Came with a friend to get some light bites and was a bit overwhelemed with the selection. We wanted a little of everything. Our server comes to the rescue, saying we can do a part of their meza platter and add a lamb kabob dish so we can get everything we wanted. Excellent. For two people, the noshes ended up to be a little too much, but mostly because we ate EVERYTHING. Like there's nothing that we avoided. Lamb kabob was delicious. Not gamey, soft. Delicious. Meza is literally small bites of everything you'd want. Staff were amazing, friendly, and attentive without being overbearing.

A favorite! Very consistent and always good value for price. The staff are always very kind. There is indoor and outdoor seating and while it is usually busy I've never had to wait to be seated. The inside is a bit small, feels like a hole in the wall. Particular fan of the lamb shawarma over rice. Their fresh pita bread always hits the spot. My friends also love the pomegranate chicken.

Got a catered apps platter to go for a friends birthday. Hummus was sooo good and the owner was nice enough to give us an extra bag. Restaurant was packed, def gotta come back here and try other stuff!

    Chicken pomegranate - very nice.

Nice atmosphere and good service. Ambiance is fun. Tried the chicken pomegranate and that was very nice. A generous portion and the rice and salad was good. The hummus is nice as well. The lamb Lule was not as good - texture was a bit unexpected - too smooth and homegenized, flavor was okay. The lemon cake was not very good - too sweet with a raspberry drizzle that was also too sweet and made the cake a bit soggy. Would not recommend.

Speaking for the Fillmore location, the service is always super nice and friendly! Our waiter was very knowledgeable about the menu and gave us good tips. At the end of the meal, we got free dessert! Each dish was super tasty. I loved how the meat was tender and slid easily off the bone. The fillo was one of my favorites - super flaky and warm.

Well executed Mediterranean food with superb service! We went on Friday during lunch time and though busy, we were quickly seated and the wait staff was friendly and attentive without being intrusive. We ordered the large combination platter, large bowl of chicken lemon soup and veggie kebab plate. Every item was delicious! The rice was some of the best rice I have ever eaten and the chicken lemon soup was WOW! It was clear that each dish was made with fresh ingredients. Be aware that though tofu is an ingredient listed in vege kebab, each kebab only contains 1 piece of tofu. Meal was the lovely combination of being both light and filling. We look forward to our next visit!

My friends and I stopped by for a late dinner and I immediately noticed how cozy and inviting the interior of the restaurant is. Lots of color, art, and plants. We were greeted by a very friendly server who recommended several dishes to share and we took him up on his recommendation! We ordered the Mediterranean Meza, beef kebabs, and falafel plate. This was plenty of food for 4 people and we had some leftovers to take home. The Mediterranean meza dish was great because it came with some many things to try! My group particularly liked the pomegranate chicken, beef kebabs, and fillos. Everything was so delicious. I highly recommend checking out La Mediterranee and I would definitely come back

Incredible food and menu. It was so hard to choose something when given so many amazing options. Everything was beyond delicious. The staff were so nice and accommodating. There was outdoor seating so we brought my dog. The hummus was delicious! Also the Moroccan mint tea. So many highlights! Must come back to try everything else. New favorite place.

I ordered the chicken and beef kabob plate, and while the meat was flavorful, I wish they included more hummus. At around $25- $30 per plate, I expected a more generous portion. I ordered takeout and arrived about an hour later because the app never updated to show my order was ready. Surprisingly, the restaurant wasn't very busy, and they didn't start preparing my food until I got there. I mentioned that I had placed the order an hour earlier and expected it to be ready, but the server seemed to brush off my concern, which was disappointing. One highlight was the hot sauce. I'm not sure if it's house-made or not, but it's so good. The pita, however, was a letdown. I prefer my pita soft, fluffy, and warm, but this one was hard and grainy. Overall, it's a cute restaurant with decent food, but it isn't my top choice.

The Stuffed falafel was so good and huge 1 is enough for 2 people. The mosabaha was very refreshing and so good. The meat combo was good overall and everything was very herbally spiced, I wasn't impressed by the lamb tho but the kebab, hummus, and chicken were great! I haven't had Mousakhan before so not sure how it should taste but to me it was sweet and savory with really well cooked chicken. I honestly felt pretty healthy overall cause I was eating hella veggies and everything tasted so fresh. The kunafa was good we got it crispy and was yummy imo but was a lil oily (I think this is normal tho). Arab food isn't really spicy but it is spiced and very herbal which I felt in the food here, I appreciate that chili sauce is provided for the spice lovers. Overall, would highly recommend. My guy ordered this and thought it was average. 3/5 LAMB SHISH KEBAB WRAP ~ this was my dish. I ate one half of the wrap and it only held two cubes of lamb meat. The lettuce and tomatoes made the wrap bland. The meat was seasoned, but everything was plain, so it needed more seasoning. Honestly, this was missing flavor! I'll have to add something to it when I eat the rest of this wrap at home. 2.5/5 HALF ROASTED CHICKEN AND RICE ~ Our friend ordered this dish. It needed more sumac. This tasted like plain roasted chicken. Maybe it needs more seasoning while marinating. It wasn't dry, so that's a relief. I booked our table about a month in advance, which turned out to be the right move because the restaurant was bustling during the lunch hour. To start, we ordered four small plates to share among our party of four: meatballs, saganaki, spanakotiropita, and a pair of dips (melitzanosolata and favasalata) with pita. Everything was excellent, and our spread was inclusive of a wide variety of flavors and textures: salty, creamy, acidic, sweet, crunchy. The meatballs and the dips are definitely a must-order and are ideal for sharing. The spanakotiropita were larger and more filling than expected, so if I were to order those again, I'd dial it back and stick with small plates rather than a full-sized entree. The saganaki was a showstopper; it is served sizzling and crackling on a cast iron dish and had a nice salty flavor that allowed the cheese to be served on its own. For my main dish, I ordered the braised goat - which is not something I'd typically order because goat meat is usually tough - but I was intrigued how it was prepared as a stew. The dish almost reminded me of a Moroccan tagine - the goat was braised to peak tenderness and bathed in a slightly fruity and well-spiced sauce; dotted with pieces of melted feta; and served on top of a bed of baked orzo, which was served fresh-from-the oven in a mini cast iron dish. I was so full after our meal that I had to walk it off for a few blocks, but I cannot wait for our next special occasion so we can come back and celebrate with another feast at Kokkari Estiatorio.

I'm generally pretty indifferent about mediterranean food, but this place really impressed me!…read more Every dish I tried had amazing flavors, and everything was prepared perfectly. We started off with the hummus and the moussaka (eggplant and tomato sauce). The hummus was pretty standard, but still great, and the moussaka was SO delicious. This was definitely the standout dish to me, and I'd hiiiighly recommend it. For mains, I was doing Meatless Monday, so I got the super falafel wrap. This wrap was also sooo delicious and massive! The falafel was really flavorful, and all the toppings and tahini sauce were just perfect additions. The restaurant itself is really pleasant and bright, great for pretty much any occasion. Service was also good (you order via QR code, but they bring the food out to you) and prices are reasonable given the quality and portion size. Definitely a new fav spot in SF!

The service apparently called out sick. Let's start with the good news: the food was genuinely delicious. Everything tasted fresh and thoughtfully prepared. The mint lemonade was bright and refreshing. The chicken skewers were flavorful and perfectly cooked (though surprisingly small). The halumi salad with eggplant was a generous portion. Now for the "Mooore" part. I was hoping the restaurant's name was also a mission statement. However, we could have used more attentive service. More follow-through. More toilet paper... Unfortunately, once we were seated, we were essentially released into the wild. Ordering is done by scanning a QR code, which is perfectly fine in theory. In practice, it felt like sending requests into the void. A drink I ordered never appeared. Nobody checked on the table, so I had to get up and walk to the counter to ask about it. Later, I had to make another trip to remind them we had ordered dessert. Then another trip when we wanted a to-go box. Apparently, the evening's theme was "interactive dining," where the guests perform most of the customer service duties themselves. Tips are forced when you first order online - no refunds on that. The bathroom offered its own adventure. The trash bin was overflowing with dirty paper towels, and there was little to no toilet paper available. As the daughter of a health inspector, knowing that staff use the same facility, I would have given this a poor hygiene grade. What made the experience frustrating was that the food was good enough to make you want to come back. But when your guests spend half the meal looking for someone to help them, it takes away from what could have been a 'more' pleasant evening.

The service was friendly and welcoming even when our party came at different times. The restaurant wasn't busy given it was a Monday evening, so you would think it would go smoothly. *** OUR PICKS *** COMBO APPETIZER PLATTER ~ hummus, baba ghanouj, haydari, ezme, dolmas, merimek, falafel ~ parts of the platter were cold while the falafel was warm, but they topped it off with a sauce that didn't keep the falafel crispy, instead it softened it. I think the sauce should have been on the side. The rest of the dish was good. 4/5 LAMB KEBAB PLATE ~ this was my dish. I touched my skewers thinking they were going to be hot, but it was surprisingly cold. I'm not sure why skewers would be cold when the food should be hot right off the grill. The lamb was cooked medium rare as I requested, though there was little to no seasoning. So it was kind of gamey and tasteless 3/5 RACK OF LAMB PLATE ~ my partner chose this dish. The lamb was also very light in seasoning. The pistachio rice was interesting and nutty. Asparagus was good. 3.5/5 MIXED GRILL PLATE ~ our friend enjoyed this dish. Maybe a mixed grill is the way to go and some meats cooked and seasoned better than others. 4/5 BEEF KEBAB PLATE ~ the beef was also room temperature and lightly seasoned. 3.5/5 SALMON ~ I tried some of this and it was decent. 4/5 BAKLAVA & CHOCOLATE MOUSSE CAKE ~ Nice birthday surprise and a sweet way to end the meal. Baklava wasn't as crispy or flaky as some I've had, but the honey-pistachio nuts were good. Chocolate mousse cake was decadent and moist. 4/5 Beautiful presentation on the plating of our food, though the timing for the food wasn't quite right as a few plates were served room temperature and not hot. However, the surprise desserts were a nice touch in helping us celebrate a birthday!

Monday nights during pandemic times brought (according to the SF Chronicle) hospitality workers to…read moreKitchen Istanbul en masse. It wasn't just the food they say, but the remarkable wine list, which turned the place into a see-and-be-seen spot akin to NYC's Elaine's (RIP). If this isn't quite how you imagine anyplace along SF's Clement Street, think again. Years later it's still packed (on a Friday night) and loud. Service was the sole miscue on my visit with 3 others. We were given menus and water but ignored after that, to a point where we reached out to get some wine and attention. As you can see from the 5-star assessment, no harm-no foul; once wine and food flowed all was forgiven. The menu required some explanation. It's not broken down in any discernible way, requiring the server to explain that all dishes ae meant to be shared and that the first several dishes are dips, then small plates, then larger. In truth, all seemed like small plates to me (or small servings) but if your wallet permits, you'll not be disappointed. There wasn't one thing we shared that we didn't 100% consume nor anything I'd not recommend. Since we sampled almost the entire menu I feel comfortable saying that everything is delicious and attractively presented. We left the alcohol order to the one at our table who'd chosen Kitchen Istanbul and she summoned the sommelier and gave him free reign. He asked what we like (hearty reds) and what we wished to spend (about $75/bottle) and we enjoyed 2 completely unique offerings that we'd not have known to choose for ourselves. He was also tasked with pairing two of the dessert wines with two of the chosen desserts and they were as enjoyable as the wines served with dinner. It's fair to say that the sommelier had fun with our table, stopping by before we left to say how much he'd appreciated the opportunity to choose for us and for us placing our trust in him. Like the rest of the City I was following Sam Smith's food journey during his time here. He never made it to Kitchen Istanbul but if he had, I think he'd have nodded in agreement with the 5-star rating.

I understand restaurants can get busy, and being out of a few menu items happens, but the way things were handled was frustrating. We ordered our food, received appetizers, and then nearly 20 minutes later our server casually came over to tell us they were out of the chicken entrée we had ordered. There was no apology, no empathy, and honestly no sense that she understood how inconvenient that was. By that point it was already late, and at almost 10 PM in San Francisco there weren't many other dining options open nearby, which completely ruined our night. What made it worse was that we were still charged despite the poor experience and lack of proper service recovery. I ended up not tipping because the service felt disorganized and lacking basic professionalism and empathy. To be fair, the owner did come out afterward to apologize while I was waiting for my Uber, and I appreciated that gesture. But overall, this was a terrible experience that could have been handled much better operationally and from a customer service standpoint.
