This place is SOOOO GOOOD!!! I have only eaten breakfast here... but I would bet everything is just as good. I have not found a breakfast place as good as this one. The menu is HUGE and it is so well priced ($5-$10)! I usually get the ABC quesadilla and it is sooo good. The food is really fresh and they have all sorts of options. I think I'm obsessed... and I am a PICKY eater!! Their mocha blended coffee is way better than anything at starbucks. You order at the counter and seat yourself. There is always room to sit. The service is always friendly. Great business model. Cut on the amount of employees running around up from and have people order their own fricken food! Still like this place a lot, the food is good and menu diverse, but boy are they SLOW! If you're in a hurry, you'd better phone in your order. I think the word has gotten out about this place, as they always seems busy, but they really need another cashier and more people in the kitchen!!!!! A friend took me to the La Mesa Bistro & Bakery this morning for breakfast. I had never heard of this place before but decided to give it a try. How else are you going to find new places, right?? They had a lot of items from the menu on boards outside the restaurant door. We looked and decided what we wanted before we even went inside. First impression was "cute", but we could not determine what the theme of the restaurant was. There were flowers in vases everywhere, and the furniture and tables did not match nor compliment each other. It was set up to be like Panera Bread where you order from the person behind the cash register, get a number, find a seat, and someone will bring you your order. I was confident that the Orange Ras Pancake breakfast was going to be really good. The food came out quickly. I was impressed because the eggs were perfectly basted, and the bacon was really good! The pancakes were also amazing. I think that service needs to pick up though. We ordered lattes with our breakfast, and they didn't come until we were almost done with our breakfasts. It wasn't busy at all since we were 1 of 3 tables in the place. The guy just forgot to make our lattes and only made them after whom I believe was the manager or owner interrupted him talking to someone and reminded him of our drinks. I've been in San Diego all my life, but recently found out about this place through Yelp. We had brunch here on Easter Sunday and was impressed with the food. I ordered the lobster benedict and it was wonderful. The lobster meat had this great flavor and the portions were a decent size. My sister ordered the regular eggs benedixt with country potatoes. The potatoes were so delish! My husband ordered the Belgian Waffle....yum yum yum! I would definitely come back to this local joint! read more

Best brunch I've had in a long time. Came here with a friend and was so pleasantly surprised. They definitely cater to their San Diego demographic by having things such as acai bowls, pitaya bowls, and gluten free offerings. They can make eggs in any style you like--I got it in my personal favorite style, Eggs Benedict, and they didn't dissappoint. Ordered the BLT with a side of fruit and a Very berry smoothie. All of which was delicious! I couldn't get over how fresh and sweet the fruit was. So tired of ordering fruit at a restaurant and it not being ripe. Not the case with the fruit here, so good! As for the BLT they didn't skimp on the bacon and the lettuce were fresh and green. You can't go wrong with anything on the menu--from acai bowls, eggs benedicts, to pancakes, fresh juices--the menu is incredible. Portions are huge and the price is decent. Coffee is delicious. THE BEST CHICKEN FRIED STEAK EVER!!! They use real sausage in the gravy and it comes with Country potatoes or fresh fruit and potato bread toast (but I always trade out the toast for a pancake for $.75 more). A hidden gem in La Mesa. The food was ok BUT they messed up on all 3 of our orders on Mother's Day. We got passed that and they made up for it. THEN my mother and I got sick from the food the same day and I won't mention how (TMI). :( I'm pretty sure it was the potatoes that made us sick because it was the only foo we both had. This place used to be my favorite. I ordered a salad and about 1/4 of the way through, I bit into something extremely hard. Turns out, it was a small pebble. Like one you'd expect find on asphalt, on the GROUND - not in a salad or in your mouth. I've worked in restaurants for years, I know these things can happen. So I patiently told the man working, and his reply was rude and abrupt. Didn't offer a remake, didn't offer a refund at all! Even when I asked, Okay, so what CAN I do? I have an entire salad here that is inedible. He shrugged, letting me know that these things happen when you order salads, and walked away. Generally good food and great service. We go here at least a few times per month and as long as I stick with basic orders, it has always been great. The few times that I have tried something non-standard for breakfast (like the machaca scramble), not so good... Definitely gets busy on weekends, so be prepared for a line and a long wait for your food during this time, but otherwise they are pretty quick. My favorite thing... lots of options for coffee and some of them are actually good. I prefer the Northwest blend for a nice strong dark coffee without bitterness. read more

My wife and I went here many times while we lived down in La Mesa; the food is all good, and the coffee selection is very diverse. I was never blown away by any one thing here, but it was always so much fun (and so pleasant!) to come here. The staff is friendly, the décor is nice, and the entire experience is just so lovely.
