True hole-in-the-wall spot. Tried this place out after dining at the adjacent taqueria. Both spots were in the same small strip mall which was convenient. There were only a few parking spaces but I was able to find a spot on a neighboring street. Right off the bat, I was nearly blinded by the too-bright fluorescent lighting and over-the-top paint colors in this venue. If you're dozing off, stepping foot into this place at night will most definitely wake you up. There was a strong bleach odor throughout which normally would be fine but ended up being rather overpowering for a place that sells food. The service wasn't the greatest and the venue as a whole was quite chaotic. There was no actual line per se; rather, people coming in from all angles and getting the staff members' attention. I watched as patrons whom had entered after I did get served first. I gathered that the key to the staff's attention was to shout in Spanish. Unfortunately, my Spanish isn't great so I patiently awaited my turn. The saving grace was the mangonada I had ordered. I watched in awe as the woman behind the counter filled that cup to the brim with several awesome toppings. She certainly did not skimp. My treat was delicious, priced fairly, and had the perfect balance of sweet and spicy. I'd come back again, but only during an off-hour when the chaos is at a minimum. read more

I usually do not leave reviews and actually have been here a few times but today was no ok! I asked for the price of the ice creams I bought and the young worker told me and I got a drink too!! When she charged me the price she said and the amount total didn't add up ... so I printed the receipt! In printing the receipt I had notice the girl make a slight face but still didn't think to much of it! When I got to my car I say she charge me for two drinks instead of 1 ... which is a total of 6.50.... Still could have been an accident!! I went back in and told her she charge me for two drinks and she was not surprised and even had a slight embarrassed look on her face. She asked if she could give me cash back and I said that's fine and then I asked her because of her expression if she knew that she had charged me for two drinks and she said ... "Yes" and I said and you didn't say anything and she laughed and said "no". So to me that is complete being shady!! I normally don't get receipts here and now it's questionable with her reaction and the other work said nothing but continued to clean. So lesson learned ask for receipts when you come here!!! I'm not sure if it was on purpose or on accident but it wasn't till I printed the receipt that she made a smirk so .... A little suspicious!! I have been to a couple michoacanas. I said I would not be back to this location due to lack of variety. Everything i asked for, they did not have. We were passing by and made the mistake of coming again. I wanted a raspado since they don't carry the Pinon ice cream. The only one they has was mango, strawberry and coco con nuez raspado. They also have their own that either have cookies in them or are dipped in chocolate and coconut. I really like this place because it's only a couple of doors down from Tijuana Tacos, so you can have your meal there and come here for dessert. I've only been here twice, but both times were good. The first visit was ordering a bionicos. The fruit was fresh, and the portion size was good. My second visit, I ordered the pistachio ice cream. I really don't see this flavor very often, so it was great to see it, and they do a good rendition of it. The place is clean and the employees were great in terms of offering samples. The parking lot is extremely small, so your best bet is to park on the street just north of this mini mall. read more

This place is so great but so far from home. Went to one my fav's in Pomona, Tijuana Tacos [2 doors down] and came over here for a nice dessert. For under $10 you can have a couple of tacos and a drink and still come over to La Monarca. I tried the Ron con pasas [Rum and raisins] and it was really good. I wish it had a few more raisins in it but the taste was awesome. I got a small sample of Mamey [get your mind out of the gutter] and it was interesting; my dad and I were just talking about different fruits and I had not seen this fruit before and I have tried many different fruits. I'm obsessed with mangoneada. And these guys pile it into your already large cup. They ran out of mango ice so they substituted pina which is pineapple. Omygosh it was delicious. Definitely a go-to. Loved this place for the convenience of how close they are. Been going there over a year now, always been charged $4.50 for a small esquites and which is more then the corn lady on the street, and she gives you a bigger size. This place is legit! And sooo good. Finally a paleteria near my home. They have real fruit icecream that's very similar but better than frostbites in chino. The only difference is this place doesn't scrape the icecream like frostbites does it which makes it way fluffier. Also, you get way more for your dollar here. I'd say about half the price than frostbites with way more flavors that are exotic and flavorful. Location is not in the best area but I felt safe. They have around 30 flavors. Some of the standouts are tequila, rompope with raisins, gansito, cajeta, Oreo, guava, and tamarindo is awesome! The tamarindo tastes like an agua fresca but frozen! Soooo yummy! I'm def going back. Parking kinda sucks but it's worth it. Don't be thrown off by the Spanish speaking peeps and give it a try! You won't regret it. Oh and they'll gladly give you a sample of the ice creams if you ask. I have been here twice. The first time I came here was because Tijuana Tacos is next door and I was getting food from there so it was convenient to just go next door for ice cream. Service left a lot to be desired. The place looks kinda run down and they didn't have any kind of order in how customers were served. The first time I went was at the height of the pandemic and none of the customers were wearing mask and were not told to put on there mask, okay, so I decided to give the place another shot and it was just more of the same, I done with this store. Now I've gone to other La Michoacán's and they were clean and orderly, staff was friendly. So the La Michoacán stores are over all very good it's just this one on Holt in Pomona makes them look bad. I've been to the store on Foothill & Garey several times and have been very pleased with their ice cream, the cleanliness of the store and the employees go the extra yard to make sure your happy. One time they ran out of bananas and the guy ran next door to the market to buy bananas to finish my order. Where now days can you get service like that!! Honestly I been coming to this place for the past year, and the girls that work there are very rude. In one occasions a girl there didn't add chamoy at the bottom of my ice cream and I told her to do so and she gave the ice cream without it I told her why didn't you put some chamoy at the bottom she got angry give me attitude stating I didn't ask her to put some, she got angry and throw away my ice cream and made me a new one but with her bad attitude, like hey I'm paying for it. It's been more than one occasion that they don't treat me right. Well I stop going because of the fall season but today I decided I wanted a nice ice cream I went with my son and boom!! I notice that the ice cream are given in a different cup wayyyyyy smaller than the common one I ordered two scoops and it was like basically one scoop size, I proceeded told the "young girl" and she insisted it's the same amount it the same amount. Like really? I'm not blind. So as usual she gave me attitude she charge me almost threw my money back at me and went to the back of the store where they have the storage or whatever in the the back where the other girl was. I went out with my son and started backing up my car when the two girls finally came out and started laughing at me. How rude and unprofessional this girls are. They don't even seem to enjoy their work. They shouldn't be representing this business. I know the owner minds his customer but this girls hate their work. After eating a super spicy (but super flavorful) aguaschiles at Mariscos Jalisco just down the street, we were in desperate search of quick relief for our mouths en fuego. Luckily, we found this wonderful lickery! There were just a couple of people ahead of us and the lady was so generous with the samples. (I took a photo of how many used spoons we had, but it was too blurry to post) She was so enthusiastic about having us taste what she thought was delish and what we would like. I think we tried most of the milk based ice creams! Before I walked in, I thought I'd get the coconut. But turns out they were out. Even better for me because I ended up getting the piñon! Super creamy and full of pine nuts. Not sure why it was pink but it was so good! Maybe pine nuts in Mexico are pink? If so, I learned something too!
