My husband found this restaurant while browsing online, and I was genuinely excited to try it. I'm half Sichuanese and love spicy food, so I had high hopes--especially since we live nearby. The food itself wasn't bad, but it didn't stand out or meet expectations. I had asked for the spicy sauce for my noodles, but was instead given a small plastic sauce container of black vinegar (they look very similar, which I understand contributed to the mix-up). Thinking it was the spicy sauce, I added it to my noodles, which made the dish overly sour and unfortunately detracted from the experience. To be fair, our waitress was very kind and mentioned it was her first few days on the job. The manager who was training her did try to step in to prevent the handoff, but it happened anyway. I appreciated their effort and professionalism. What stood out more negatively was the value. The pricing felt high relative to the portion size and overall quality of the food. Additionally, we were seated next to the windows, which were noticeably dusty. The blinds and windowsill hadn't been cleaned, and it made me question the overall cleanliness of the restaurant, which made it harder to fully enjoy our meal. I'm not quite sure why my experience is so different than all these reviews. I can't name a single thing from this place that I enjoyed. On top of that, there was a huge fly that kept us swatting our food and landing on our hands several times. The fried rice tasted like it was burned and scraped from a dirty pan, and the soup and dumplings were flavorless. I've had sichuan beef soup from Cup Noodles in Rancho so I had high expectations of finding a new sichuan soup, if this was my first time trying it I would of thought it wasn't for me. I originally came here hoping to order the oil spilled noodles, but unfortunately it's not on the menu anymore. So instead I got the Taro Balls and Sichuan Spicy Shredded Chicken. The Taro Balls were pretty good. The texture of the taro paste was smooth and the taste was creamy with the right level of sweetness. The mochi was maybe a bit thick for my liking, but overall it was still good. The Sichuan Spicy Shredded Chicken was a bit underwhelming. The portion of chicken was smaller than I expected, and I didn't love the seasoning. I would have preferred if the sauce were just salt, soy sauce, sugar, vinegar, peppercorn, and chili oil. But there was some additional sauce/spice, tasted a bit like shacha sauce, that overwhelmed the rest of the seasoning. It looks like Miss Sichuan specializes in noodles so I will aim to come back and try some of their other noodles sometime. The service was fine, nothing notable. This is a nice little restaurant in an unlikely place (for Chinese food) in Pomona. Off busy White avenue, it has a parking lot north of the restaurant, which makes it easy to stop in for a bite. I tried the Spicy Dumplings, Chongqing noodles, and Beef stirred noodles. Even though I asked for "medium" spicyness, the dishes were not spicy at all (Their store moto is "No Spicy, No Joy" after all). The waitress is very friendly and helpful if you are not familiar with what to order, she will guide you. She did tell us that the Spicyness level of dishes have been toned done twice now since opening, due to local customer's preferences. If you need to "feel the burn", extra chilli oil is available to increase the spice level in your dish. The food is tasty and the portions are huge. If you pay via Zelle, you avoid a 4% surcharge when paying via credit card. Owner is looking into accepting Venmo too in the future. I am absolutely in love with this place. The little statue outside is so cool and makes the restaurant feel more welcoming. Everytime I've visited, theres only been one person working so the service and food take awhile to come out, but when it does, it is so worth it. We ordered some dumplings to start us off. I've actually only tried this place once. The parking was small and I received my food quickly. There was seating indoors and outdoors though. I was able to put my order in through a call, but I know you can also order online. I got the hot and spicy noodles which was a good flavor of authentic szechuan. We have been back a few times since Miss Sichuan's grand opening. The first time was great, then we had a couple meh experiences, and the last time we went about 2 weeks ago, it was better. We have enjoyed the sides, their signature soup, and the option to reduce sweetness on the drinks. The dumplings have also normally been reliable and solid. Good flavor and we like the dipping sauce. The xiao long bao have been okay, but ours still frequently stick to the paper or break. The technique seems a little off still, but the flavor is fine. When we have had less than a 4-star experience, it was because of temperature issues or way too much plastic used (plates, bowls, etc., which also affect the temps since the food cooled off a lot). When we dine in, we don't want things packed like it's to-go and it'd be nice to avoid creating so much waste. Some of these times when we were served food in plastic to-go containers, it was later in the evening (but not right before closing). Perhaps some of the workers didn't feel like doing dishes after? In this sense, service has varied, but we appreciate that there's a dumpling spot close by and the owners are trying out new things to see what works. Visited this place during MDW while staying with my family in Pomona and was surprised at how close it was to us. Parking is located next door at the mechanic shop and there are about 4 spots, otherwise parking is on the street. There are a few outdoor tables and actually a good amount of seating inside for how small it looks. The inside looks clean and neat. My husband and I waited at a table while waiting for our food since we ordered it to-go. The lady (seemed like she was the only one working the cash register and serving the food) was super friendly and even offered us some roasted peanuts and water while we waited. We ordered about 10 dishes and enjoyed every single one of them. We had a variety of the menu and we were really surprised at how delicious and flavorful their dishes are. I would be very careful with their spice - would suggest to ask for it on the side if possible - as my husband really struggled, even with the 'mild'. The XLBs were okay, but I really enjoyed the pork and shrimp wontons (very similar to dtf, but with a little more flavor!). My family really enjoyed the fried rice as well. One thing I would say is that there is very little meat in some of the dishes. I looked at some of the noodle and rice dishes we ordered, and it was lacking more meat. Other than that, I would highly recommend this place because of the value and flavors! Prices are affordable! It's a small place but there are outdoor table as well. Now to the food. We tried the specialty of the house. Spicy wonton, Chong Quing Noodles, stirred beef noodles. The spicy wontons were good after we added the additional chili sauce. Choice of filling for your wontons. Shrimp and chive, pork pr chicken. The Chong Quing noodle soup was very good. Bold flavor with every single bite. The stirred beef noodles served dry with Chinese salted Choi, seasoned white carrots, fried peanuts and some other condiments with the noodles. Make sure you mix everything together well and enjoy! Additionally chili sauce if you want to kick up a notch! Their brown sugar boba milk tea was really good. I was shocked to see a $8.63 service fee, a $2.49 banking fee, and on top of that, an 18% mandatory tip -- all without any clear explanation. When I asked the staff what the "service fee" was, he said it might be a credit card fee -- but he clearly had no clue. Honestly, it felt like he was just making something up. We found Miss Sichuan in Pomona through social media and were curious enough to give it a try. From the start, we had mixed expectations -- the videos made it look exciting, but we also heard the ambience was... different. And yes, the decor is definitely odd -- it feels like you're dining in someone's living room with a slightly eerie vibe. Maybe that's meant to be "authentic," but it was more off-putting than charming. We ordered four dishes, Xiao Long Bao, Spicy Shredded Chicken, Chicken Noodles and Stirred Beef Noodles. The noodles came out first. The Chicken Noodles were a huge letdown -- the veggies were undercooked (basically raw), the soup was bland, and the chicken cubes were flavorless. The menu said it would be drumstick, but the server explained they use cubes instead because "non-Chinese customers don't like bones." That substitution just didn't work. The Stirred Beef Noodles were slightly better, but still just average -- nothing memorable. The Spicy Shredded Chicken was also underwhelming. It had an unusual taste that didn't match the traditional flavor of this dish, and not in a good way, also it's very salty. The biggest disappointment was the Xiao Long Bao. It looked nothing like the pictures or videos that were looping on their TV screen. Ours were bloated from being over-steamed, with the tops still doughy and undercooked. The flavor was off, and my husband said the meat filling tasted strange -- not fresh or well-seasoned. Then came the final kicker: when we asked for the check, the server asked if we could pay with Zelle or cash to avoid a "banking fee." But all over the restaurant, there are signs clearly saying NO CASH ACCEPTED. Confusing and frustrating. On top of that, the suggested tip percentages started at 18% and went up to 30% -- outrageous for the experience we had. I found this place on yelp and it's very easy to Miss as it's the driveway right before you get to Orange Grove off of White. I came here for lunch for my birthday since me and my friend work locally so we decided to give this place a shot. They have a lot of great reviews. Cute tiny spot in Pomona. Hidden gem if you ask me. we ordered the chicken dumplings, the beef, fried noodles and shrimp fried rice. Everything was delicious. The shrimp fried rice had tons of shrimp in it. They did not skimp at all. However, the beef fried noodles only had five pieces of beef. Very small pieces at that. We were a little disappointed with that but other than that, everything was great. I also ordered a honey tea with Boba. It was very sweet so I had to add some water to it overall delicious food and most likely will be back. This was amazing, one of the more authentic Sichuan Beef Noodle Soups I have had in the States. The beef was tender and the noodles weren't over cooked. They have a good broth recipe. Price was very reasonable, and the service was fast (however I did go not during rush hours). We had our usual server, Joanne, and now that we know her name, she's honestly starting to feel more like a friend than just our server. She's such a pleasure; so attentive and kind. In response to the owner who responded to my complaint: please inform your staff that tipping is customary so they do not try to hold customers hostage against not tipping when service is bad. It didn't seem like they understand. In regard to being a cashless establishment, please make sure there are clear signs and that your staff makes customers aware of the payment options BEFORE ordering not after. **************** BEWARE of this business! Stay far far away for your own sanity! As I'm writing this review, I'm currently also filing a complaint against the Better Business Bureau. I have never had to deal with a business that demanded tip and refused to give me change back for what I am owed. First off, I was swayed by the positive Yelp reviews, and since this place is nearby my work I figured I would give it a shot. Sadly, as someone who has had xiao long bao in various locations throughout SoCal and Asia, this was by far the worst tasting xiao long baos I've ever had. The frozen ones from Trader Joe's for $5 are even better than what Miss Sichuan serves here. The skin ripped apart, some were also already ripped in the steamer, and the meat inside is chunky and falling apart. Clearly it's been steamed for far too long and not quality food. For $11.99 this is overpriced garbage. There's so many other restaurants like LA Kung Fu Noodle in Claremont and 1st Dumpling in Montclair nearby that serve quality food. I also asked for fresh ginger and a huge red flag was that they didn't have any here. The lady mentioned they just chop up ginger that is already in the sauce. However, not only was the food horrible so was the service. My bill came out to be $13.22 and the lady would not give me my change back after giving her $15. In fact she demanded tip from me. She had initially also pressured me into ordering more food since I didn't meet the $15 credit card minimum but I mentioned I had cash on me so I didn't have to use my credit card. None of this was ever disclosed to me prior to ordering food. Anyway this lady insisted there's no change in the restaurant so I wouldn't be getting any change back and since I HAD to tip her anyway I shouldn't get anything back. Since Miss Sichuan is basically counter service and take-out, I don't even understand how they could be demanding tips and generally tips are not mandatory BUT customary. I had such a headache arguing with her that I just left without getting my change back. I also did NOT pay the suggested gratuity of 18% on the receipt and she tried to go after me as I walked out. I would never return back and highly suggest everyone to avoid Miss Sichuan at all costs. This place is breaking so many California laws that I have to report them now. This place is an absolute gem! I have been three times since I found out about them and every time it has been amazing. My husband, son and I have tried the pork and cabbage dumplings, shrimp pork and chive dumplings, the house spicy dumpling, sichuan special spicy noodle, the house special beef noodle, the spicy and sour cucumber and the bok choy. Every single thing we have tried made our tastebuds sing! My favorite is the house spicy dumpling with beef. Also, I can't say enough about Lily, the woman behind the food.
