Fritzie grabbed a Spicy Beef Noodle Soup. So delicious, a wonderful spicy broth, a delicious aroma. Go try that or the Combination bowl of beef, tendon, brisket and tripe. The pepper very hot the way I like it. The pho was eh. The basil and sides all excellent and fresh. The dac biet beef ball, tendon, tripe, etc all very good. Noodle was good too. But the broth was not very good. It was chicken stock and lack all the ingredients that make the pho broth so good. Things like bone broth, star anise, etc etc. It was lacking. Given the higher prices, gonna have to knock this down. I think this is more touristy pho and not the real thing. Because the establishment is clean, will bump this up to 4 stars. To mgmt: please improve the broth for your pho. Otherwise, I will just have to learn how to make real pho broth. read more

They even brought staff in early on the days we ordered so it would be ready by our scheduled lunch times!!! They went above and beyond and everyone loved the food! Although there are plenty of pho options in Reno, it's a bit difficult to find some consistently good ones. La Mint proves to be consistently good with their food and service. We ordered a combination pho (which was filled with plenty of meat and bean sprouts) and the broth was flavorful without being too salty. We also ordered the pork chops with rice and some egg rolls. The pork chops with the sauce on the side had great flavor and the egg rolls were filled with deliciously seasoned meat. The only dish we weren't a fan of was the chow fun. It wasn't terrible but lacked flavor compared to the other dishes. Their service was wonderful - super quick and friendly. The ambiance is very cute - they did a great job remodeling this place from what it was before and have a cute instagram able area at the front where you wait. How is this place 4 stars? Ordered the Pork Spring Rolls, Ox Tail Pho, Chicken Pho and Sizzling Beef Platter. Pork Spring Rolls: Average. No complaints. Ox Tail Pho: Meat is sticking to the bones, broth average and quite salty. Below average - would not order had I known. Chicken Pho: Soup base is a bouillon base and possibly sugar. Average, but it was ordered specifically without onions. The waiter verified no onions, but cilantro is okay. The bowl arrived with onions and no cilantro. Sizzling Beef: It wasn't the beef. It arrived as the combo version, which we were going to let slide, but it was extremely salty and sent back as a result. A replacement order was made - won ton soup. Waiter came by again later and verified, won ton Noodle soup? OMG, there was not even an apology, so whatever. Wor Won Ton Noodle Soup: Okay, this is not what was ordered. To top it off, it was also very salty, only 3 dumplings which was very mediocre and char siu pork slice was dry. The Noodle is same rice vermicelli used in Pho! To their credit, the charge was for a regular won ton Noodle soup, but it was bad enough to send back again. Check arrives and to top off an already disappointing dinner, my fortune cookie only had half a fortune - lol. At least I had half, because the next cookie had no fortune. Such is the restaurant - unfortunate to even exist. The Chinese and Thai food offering in the menu should have been my warning to just leave and not look back. La Mint is a lovely restaurant, spacious, beautifully decorated and quaint. The wait staff was attentive and polite. First the good. My wife has the Oxtail Pho. For some, this might sound like an odd combination, but it was a perfect blend of a tender, savory beef, with the wonderful flavors of the Pho broth. A really delightful dish. I, on the other hand, went with Asian Comfort Food, combination Fried Rice. This dish can only be described as bland and tasteless. So unfortunate. It had a substantial amount of proteins (chicken, beef & shrimp). Perhaps with some addition spices or maybe just some good ol' salt, this dish would have been better, but on this day it was not. With La Mint being one of the few pho places in South Reno, it's pretty good. I opted for the rare beef and meatball pho and my husband got the Mongolian chicken. They came out pretty quick which is always a plus during lunch hour. The staff are very friendly and attentive. Enjoyed every bit of my food. The short ribs were tender and flavorful, not burnt or overcooked. My lunch also came with a small bowl of soup which contained fried garlic and green onions, I enjoyed that a lot. Good amount of chicken in there. Decent sized portions. After I left my body felt so strange, hot and itchy and heavy feeling. Like I ate something I was allergic to. My roommate who ordered the same thing I did said she couldn't sleep and felt ill. We both woke up puffy and swollen and so icky feeling we came to the conclusion that they must've put msg in the pho. Called and asked if this was the case and they stated yes! There is no indication that they do add that anywhere on the menu! There should be a warning. I thought we are at the point where we have stopped adding that to our food. And the food honestly didn't taste that much more special because of it. So disappointed and felt so crappy it ruined our evening and next day. Never going here again. read more

The exterior is nice although I found the "Chinese food" neon sign to be offsetting given it's a Vietnamese restaurant... The interior is nicely decorated and spacious. Service is good. We were quickly seated as we entered and given ample time to figure out our order. Ample parking is shared with other stores in the plaza. Overall, La Mint is OK. I'd say it's Reno-4 stars, but Sac/Bay Area-3 stars. The restaurant is pretty which can create a romantic ambiance. I can see this being a casual date night spot. I often find that spring rolls take on too much, but these were simple with salad, tofu, rice and a side of peanut sauce that I wanted to bathe in. For my entree I had the general tsos tofu and it was just as perfect. The tofu was cooked to perfection and dosed in a sweet yet savory sauce, served with a side of rice (that I dumped more peanut sauce on!)
