Delicious food from Oaxaca, feels like I'm back in Mexico and getting home cooked food. This is my go to restaurant, and it is not pricey, ideal if you want good Mexican cuisine and good quality food.

The food is very delicious with a homemade touch that makes it very special, the truth is very good place and the service is very good

Tamale in red sauce, Tlayuda , and chicken enchilada

My wife and I just had late lunch at La Mixteca. And it was very very good! We had the chicken tamale with red sauce. We had the Tlayuda and we also had the chicken enchilada. I've got to tell you, it was all totally authentic and made to order. In fact, my wife said that the tamale was the best that she's ever had! In fact, she actually watched them make it from scratch in the back! Service was great... I'd say the only downside was the price point for the Tlayuda which was $21. I think that was a little high for what you got, but overall I highly recommend this restaurant!

Pleasantly surprised I accidentally happened upon this place. I was driving by running an errand and saw "Oaxan..." something out of the corner of my eye. I love mole sauce and it was almost dinner time so I turned around and went back. Turns out this place is new. It's important to manage expectations here: The very clean and nice appearance other details like flower vases on the tables might give one the impression they should have a hostess and menus and table service. Not so! This is a simple order at the counter and have a seat type of place, so the dining area appears a little nicer - "overdressed" perhaps - than your typical order at the counter and have a seat type of place. They gave me complimentary noodle soup that was good - nothing to rave about but it was nice. I had two cheese and two chicken enchiladas with mole sauce. They serve them with sour cream, lettuce, and cheese on top. I love this! I always ask for a side order of sour cream to put on mole dishes, so it was nice they just served it that way. They were delicious! I considered licking the plate clean. The "menu" I basically some general concept ideas written on a chalkboard and you just tell them what you want and they make it. I have no idea how they decided how much to charge me since there weren't any prices on the menu. With that being said, I paid $15 for four enchiladas and a coke, and I definitely got my money's worth. Excellent food! There isn't really a drink menu, just a glass cabinet with various sodas like many other Mexican order at the counter type of places to eat. Overall I'm very glad I stopped. Great food for a good price in a nice new clean dining room.

Delicious! Authentic Oaxacan food from the Mixteca region. They have menudo on the weekends and it came with warm handmade tortillas. We had the tlayuda as well and it was so fresh and big enough for 2.

The food is really good, I got the mole enchiladas. Would definitely go again. Was a little intimidating with the person serving us was not as welcoming. Was an easy in and out experience though.

Great authentic food from Oaxaca. You can order at the counter or sit down and someone will come and take your order. I got the Tlayuda and it had real queso Oaxaqueno. It was delicious! I plan to come back again and try a few other things. They have posole, huaraches, mole, tlayudas, caldos etc.

Food was below average and the service and vibe were as well. 3 stars is actually kind of generous. More like 2.5

With that being said, I wanted to try it out. This was about 2 years ago prior to this visit I had today at this location. I jotted the note down after overhearing him talking about it while watching Netflix. When arriving, the environment outside is run down, old fashioned and in the scary graffiti, homeless surrounding. Parking is difficult to find, but we got lucky me and a colleague. The place is on a road side where parking it located a few streets between about 100 feet away. The surrounding had graffiti and loitering which was unpleasant and I would imagine it is worse at night, be careful here! Inside, a wonderful aroma excites you as you enter the restaurant. Booths all around and hard uncomfortable seats. A lot of people came here today on Sunday afternoon. Customer service was excellent, the guy at the front was very chill, polite and acted as if I was his homie, buddy or good friend. This is what I like. I ordered the birria of course, a meat drenched in a bunch of flavors for days to keep the meat juicy, tender and moist. The variations ordered were three tacos plate with birria, onions cilantro and a consome that was massive. This meal was $17. The other order was a four piece birria quesadilla that was absolutely delightful, succulent and had a delicious hunger craving aroma and flavor that any starving or hungry person would die for! This plate was $14. The tacos did come with beans and rice. Between the two dishes the birria quesadilla was my favorite however, the tacos tasted better. The tortilla of the tacos was fresh and made with love. The value was regular, something I expected compared to taco trucks and side vendors of Mexican food. This place is extraordinary. I felt guilty after consumption because it was fatty, juicy and everything you would want in a pleasurable meal, but it was heavy on the calories and filling. It was a messy meal, I added salsas, more seasoning from the condiments bar. There were so many different sauces and fillings like lemon etc. to balance the flavors of the birria. The console incuded was an added kick that I loved. Definitely one of the best if not the best birria I ever had and I highly recommend this place if you like Mexican cuisine at its finest. An absolute hidden treasure that you need to try! I'll come back after a month of consistent cardio and strength training to burn enough fat and make room for another appetite that soothes my brain cells.

Place isn't too big inside and it was packed when we went on a Saturday afternoon. I was for sure going to get the nachos and tacos but wanted more. Jesus was kind enough to recommend the grilled cheese and burrito. Both were great recs and delish! I mean I thought about the grilled cheese and burrito days after. The horchata was creamy and you could tell it was made in house. This place is delish, no notes.

I went there for lunch on a weekday, and I was pretty pleased with the service and food. The woman at the counter did speak English so that's always feels more comfortable, especially if you have any special requests. They have an open kitchen where they assemble orders, and the cook was rather friendly. I ordered a roasted pork burrito (I can't remember the name, but it's not carnitas). The meat was tender and tasted like it was slow cooked. The tortilla is not anything special, but all the fillings (rice, beans) were good. There is larger rice than beans ratio, but they give plenty of meat protein. I have been here several times in the past. I remember totally ratchet seating areas, where there were large holes in the floor. There seems to be some updates and the seating area is cleaned up (but I've only done takeout). They now also accept credit cards. For a low cost burrito, this is satisfying. Most burritos are ~ 10.
