I've used this place the past few years for all of my clothing needs after finding it on Yelp. At first I just used them for dry cleaning, where they've been consistently good and fairly priced. That has progressed to using them for alterations (done by a family member of the owner), and ask laundry recently when my building's laundry was temporarily shuttered. They really do a great job with alterations in particular, although it's best to go in the AM when the seamstress is there. Owners are very friendly and never had a serious problem with any of their work. To me, that's exactly what you want in a cleaner. read more

An utter lack of professionalism and common courtesy on full display. I went to for a simple alteration on my shirt and specified the date of my event. When I went to pickup my shirt it wasn't done. The tailor app "forgot" to do it! Instead of giving me a call to indicate it would not be possible, they just never told me. By the time I went to pickup it up it was too late for same day service anywhere else leaving me out of luck with no other options. I used to go here for all of my tailoring and laundry needs but will never be a patron here again. Absolutely horrendous quality of service. read more

I've been coming there for over 10 years but they change the ownership and the new owner is so over price. I had my pants just taken down and the guy charge me $15 to have that done. I also took a Burberry button down shirt to have a stain removed still in the shirt when I brought it home so I just paid that $10.50 for nothing. I complain to the guy who works there why he charge me to have this thing removed when is thing is still there or not even half price. And why it cost so much to just take pans down without hemming them. So no more business for them from me unfortunately even they're so close to my apartment. Catastrophic, horrible, a complete disaster. Appalling rudeness and utter lack of professionalism. I have repeatedly brought them beautiful, expensive European shirts. They have no respect for nice clothes (nor for their customers' money). They completely ruined one of them, a very fine Italian shirt. Among other things, they broke almost every single button of it. In fact, it was not the first time but that was too much, so I asked the lady that she replace the damaged buttons. She accepted to replace the ones completely broken, yes... with different ones, so my shirt would have resembled some clown's shirt. She refused to replace all the buttons (although most of them were also damaged, though less so). I left. It is incredibly overpriced, but beeing overpriced for such a sh...y job, no thank you. Go to any other place in the neighborhood, even to "I hate ironing." It's half the price, and better done. I suspect that the few people who gave good reviews to this place were either paid for it, or don't know that there exists another way of dealing with elegant clothes. Or perhaps they just don't care because their clothes are cheap, but in that case they shouldn't pay such a price anyway. I have been patronizing this store for many years and I thought it was always a bit expensive but most recently they charged me almost $40 to dry clean a silk dress with a lining and belt. I asked why it was less than $20 to dry clean a 2-piece man's suit but $40 to clean a woman's dress. It's longstanding knowledge that pricing at dry cleaners discriminates against woman but this was the most extreme I have seen. What upset me most is that when I spoke up, the worker made no effort to adjust the price but said it my fault and I should have said something when I dropped off the clothes. I had told the woman it was a dress with a liner but didn't realize she was charging me for two separate dresses. I paid and left. There are other dry cleaners in the neighborhood that I will be looking into. read more

I don't understand the good reviews here. I tried them twice now. Both times my shirts came back terribly pressed. The first time I thought maybe it was because of something I did, because I didn't check it right away after bringing it home. So today when I brought home my stuff, I checked them straight away, and sure enough, same thing! Tons of wrinkles, marks, especially around the buttons and seams. Appalled at the rudeness of the man who runs La Mode. I just picked up a dress I got hemmed there because of the good reviews for alterations. During the credit card transaction, he made snarky remarks when I asked if I could have a receipt. Then I needed to take the dress off the hanger to fit it in my bag, and left the hanger with him on the counter for recycling. When I was walking out the door, he yelled at me to come back all the way back in and throw out the hanger in the trash for him. So much for sustainability at an organic dry cleaners. FYI, Zoya Cleaners on 108th and Broadway, which I usually go to, has an incredibly nice manager and recycles your hangers. read more

The prices vary, depending on who is behind the counter, and they give you a hard time about their 5% discount when paying with cash. Most recently, the shirts that are coming back are wrinkled, and not of the same standard as when I started with them. I will find another dry cleaner. read more

I would not recommend this place for high-end down jackets. I specifically asked before coming if they are able to dry clean down jackets and got a very definitive yes. Then, after spending $38 and much to my horror, my Moncler jacket was not only in worse condition than when I dropped it off, but it literally looked like it had been sprayed with mud - full of tiny stains. And I'm not even exaggerating. It literally took me an hour to try to remove the stains myself. I am not exactly sure what "organic" methods they used to achieve such a horrendous result. My jacket had no stains at all before the cleaning. What is worse, they did not protect the zippers from possible abrasions during the cleaning process and now they look like they have been scratched by sand paper. It is sad because I had such high expectations of this place from all the raving reviews. But $38 for a jacket that gets all stained and worn AFTER cleaning, no thanks!! read more

I switched to this neighborhood dry cleaner ( because a person at a near by dry cleaner was rude) a few years back and have always had great results. Dropped off a heavy coat to be dry cleaned Saturday, was told it would be ready Tuesday at the earliest normal pricing. Sure, no issue. Call Tuesday, I'm told I should pick it up at 5. Sure. Get a call back and I'm told it's ~actually~ ready to be picked up now. I go to pick it up and it has clearly not even been touched, all of the original spots just as obvious as when I dropped it off. Bring it back to the same guy (who had just decided it was clean) a minute after walking out the door and he has me show him the spots on my coat before taking it back. Happy(?) ending: picked it up at the end of the day and it was cleaned! Does this place deserve a 1 star rating? It depends on how you feel about trying to be sold a phony service. Does this place deserve the overall 4 stars it has right now? Absolutely not, especially if they give discounts to those who write them yelp reviews (of any rating). "But max, how does it make sense to say their rating is inflated if they do not require a good yelp review to get the discount?" Good question, and the answer lies in the fact that you CANNOT get the discount your first time using the service, so the reviews are all from recurring customers who already like the business and are establishing a relationship with it. Also, I'm not so sure I would want to bring a review like this in, show it to the guys there, then hand them my clothes. It's contradictory cause I'm saying simultaneously "your service is worth using" and "your service is not worth using" and I'd look like more of a dick than just from this review. IN RESPONSE TO THEIR COMMENT: "We don't agree with all the stuff that were written in your comment..." - Notice how NONE OF THE DETAILS OF THE STORY CHANGE when they tell it except for the yelp discount for bringing in a printed out review being available for 1st timers. I was told over the phone that I couldn't get a yelp discount my 1st time, but even if I'm lying about that, the ratings would STILL be inflated: Suppose it is available to 1st timers and I am lying about being told "no" - then the reviews have little foundation in the service/good of the business since people are bringing in reviews (which are likely high) before buying the product, and thus inflating the rating. If after reading this review and their response - which matches my description exactly except for the yelp discount - and you aren't convinced there's some business bullshittery going on here, then go in and try them for yourselves lol you're an independent adult and I don't make decisions for you. read more

Last night I ripped the zipper on my dress while practicing for a formal dance I am going to tonight. I called La Mode first thing in the morning at 7am as another reviewer suggested, and they were able to fix my zipper AND alter the dress within 3 hours! The dress looks beautiful, you cannot tell it has been altered to fit me--it's perfect. The service was fast, friendly, and professional. After speaking with the dry cleaner's management, I decided to update my review. My recent experiences have proved that they deliver high quality dry cleaning without the harsh chemicals in traditional cleaning. They provide reasonable turnaround (although other dry cleaners are faster). I have never had any issues with their dry cleaning services. This location can definitely earn 5/5 stars. The biggest barrier is their limited tailoring hours (7 am-12 pm on average), and general policy to deliver to doorman buildings only. Been coming to this dry cleaners since I moved to the area 3 years ago. They stained my clothes twice before but offered to clean them again so I forgave them. This was a HUGE MISTAKE. They stained my brand new white tuxedo that cost $4000 and tried to blame it on me, and claimed that this has never happened before. They also said that I shouldn't dry clean expensive clothing at their store, which basically admitting that it was their fault. However, they won't do anything about it. Do not come here: Strike 1: messed up with helming of a shirt. Very basic. Blatantly crooked line and I asked for it to be straight all-around, which was not done Strike 2: after walking several blocks to them because they don't deliver to my address and had good reviews, items that I dropped off for tailoring a week before were still not done, and they had said they would be done days before Strike 3: a dress was completed for the new deadline but when moving a button on a dress they ignored a keyhole covered up and gaping. I'm now paying to have it fixed by my old tailor. After strikes 1 and 2, I was given a $20 credit and they did apologize. Won't be using it. All of these events happened in a two week span. Unacceptable and by the third time I just said okay because it wasn't worth having them touch another item of mine. read more

I don't ever write these reviews, BUT wanted to share this story: I took my friend's bomber jacket to them. Something with how the fabric is, the chemicals messed up the jacket and put little water stains all over it. I found out that this would have happened at any dry cleaner because of the specific fabric. BUT the owner was nice and caring enough to give me back the jacket as well as write me a check for the price of a completely new one. Yes I was upset about the jacket, but he handled it with complete professionalism. I highly recommended this place! Went here for dry cleaning and washing of shirts near closing and the guy was super nice about handling very late customers. He even saved me some money by telling me I did not need to dry clean some of the shirts. The place is kind of expensive, but I didn't see anything wrong with any of the clothes I brought, and I got everything back. So, it's not bad, but this place is there if you need it. Probably the best dry cleaner in the neighborhood. I really like this place. They're not cheap but they do great work, pick up/deliver and are quite friendly. They offer wash & fold laundry services and don't "burn" your laundry like other places in the neighborhood. I haven't used their tailoring services yet but it seems like they get a reasonable amount of business. I switched from Bon French cleaners (which I used for many years) a few blocks away and am very happy. I'd definitely recommend them. read more

I am not a fan of LaMode Organic Cleaners at 2823 Broadway. I took a running garment (along with one pair of slacks to be ironed only) in to have the zipper sewn back in the sleeve pocket on a Monday morning at 8 am. My ticket said it would be ready Wednesday. I thought that was reasonable. Wednesday morning at 8am I went back to pick up my things and the man behind the counter tells me its Wednesday after 5pm. AFTER 5pm?!?!? Is that typical cleaners practice? I said really it's already been two day. Anyway, he gives me some lecture about how the seamstress could not put my things in front of other people's clothes. I look over at the seamstress who sits in the window and she's reading a newspaper and then takes a phone call. Why not just say Thursday and it takes you three days iron pants and sew in a 6 inch zipper. AFTER 5pm?!?!?! LAMODE: Hi its Monday and you can have your clothes back on Wednesday. Dropped off five t-shirts and five button-ups. Walk home and get a call saying that they are unable to dry clean the button-ups because the fabric was too delicate. In my years of visiting dry cleaners, I have never had this issue. They were nice and friendly but my review solely reflects the dry cleaning ability of this establishment, which was subpar. read more

My experience with the lady on the phone was horrible and not friendly at all. I called to see how much it was to wash and iron a men's shirt. The lady on the phone said 6 dollars. I asked if there was something different or special so I knew why the difference in price was. I was surprised to hear a very upsetted woman answering " OH MY GOD! why are you asking this to me"? That is the price there is no reason!" I asked to speak to somebody who could tell me a bit more and she hang up on me after having repeated several time that why I was asking that question and sounding very upset, beyond her limits.... Unless somebody gives me a good reason to spend 6 dollars on a shirt I will not be willing to spend it on a store that does not train their employees to be courteous and answering basic simple questions. I spilt makeup removal oil all over my pink silky dress, and had no hope for it to be completely clean. I brought the dress to La Mode just to give it a try. The dress came back as vividly colourful as it was, with all the oil stain completely removed. Will definitely come back. read more

I have been going to La Mode Organic Dry Cleaner for the better part of two years now, and I have been thrilled by the level of quality and service that the store provides. The folks working behind the counter are always nice and take special care to address random requests and small details. I have asked them to take care of spilled wine, lost and broken buttons, pants that have become unhemmed and to take care of general cleaning needs. They have never been late. Prices are somewhat high, but the consistency is worth it to me. La Mode does offer a discount if you bring many items at once and pay in cash (5% off of $40 or more). read more

I've never written a review before, but had such a great experience with this store I had to write. I took in a silk dress on which I had spilled blue frosting and other things I wasn't quite sure about (wild wedding reception). When I went to pick it up, the guy told me that the stains didn't all come out, and he wanted to clean it again - for free. I told him I was moving the next day to another city. He said no problem - we'll mail it - for free. I got the dress in the mail 1 week later, stain-free, boxed really nicely, and sent priority. Amazing customer service. read more
