First they couldn't even find my pants, and the customer service was as horrible, I was refunded my with no regards, why wasn't i notified prior, i could have went to another establishment! I have been a customer of Amsterdam Cleaners for roughly a decade, and they have always had amazing service, and are honest and helpful in every way. They know what they can fix, they know what cannot be fixed, and the work they do is ALWAYS of the highest quality. I am soon leaving NYC for a career opportunity, and I will miss Amsterdam Cleaners very much, which is a lot to say for a business. In addition to this, they cleaned two of my favourite jackets which I had purchased and worn in many environments while travelling abroad. They repaired my leather jacket that another dry cleaner had messed up, and they also fixed the colouring on my favourite track jacket that had gotten mixed up during my idiotic washing mistake. Very professional and convenient service on the Upper West Side. I dropped off two items I thought were beyond repaire. I was warned that it was unlikely the stain & wearing pains would come out of my vintage Ralph Lauren oversized white rugby sweater (a sweater that had been passed down to me from my mother) - spoiler alert...the stains were lifted! Super happy with the launder - it looks like new! My other item was a yellow spring coat. This was the tricky one. Two grease stains from subway doors were lifted & a blue sharpie mark was made much much lighter. I had previously brought these items to two other laundromats in the area & they did not even want to attempt to clean. For the sweater & coat I paid $24 cash + tip (because I was so thankful. Items were available for pickup within 2 days. I am definitely going to use Amsterdam Cleaners again. It is hard to find a cleaner that you trust, especially with personal & sentimental garments. Long, overdue review...will miss them after leaving NYC. Had gone to them for about five years. Tried other cleaners, including one down the street from my apartment, but ended up going back - FOR GOOD. The owners are super friendly and helpful. The other works always mean well, even if they may not be efficient as the boss lady. Superb cleaning and finishing - crisp pressing and folding. Tailoring skills are always spot on. Have had one shirt (out of 1000s) stained, and the owner honored a credit. They even accommodated biweekly deliveries to my apartment even though I didn't have a doorman?! This is actually the first time I use a dry clean shop for regular service. I called every single dry clean in this area, two of them deliver to dorms, and only this one cover the hall I am in. There weren't many choices. I mean, who wants to pick up and drop off clothes every week in the winter of NYC? I called and they told me I needed to come in and set up an account. It sounded pretty unnecessary and it was. I guess they probably just wants to meet you first. The owners are nice mid age couple, I'd say Korean couple, but one of them is half Japanese. They have this price chart on the wall, says 6-7.20 for tops. I was wondering how much would they charge for my short thin tops. Then I called and a delivery guy showed up at my lobby. Some of their delivery man doesn't call you when you get there, so if you need to hand things to them personally, you probably need to get to the location first and wait to prevent missing them. You also need to inform them that you are ready to take your cloths back, then they will deliver those for you. My cloths were packed in 2 plastic cover, and with recipe on one of them. I noticed they charged me 7.2 for very single cloths, even the cotton one. I am honestly wondering how they determine the actual price. Is it by the brand Con:By the time I handed my cloths to the guy, he didn't even have a bag to put them in. Pro: They removed an antitheft tag from my pants!! And I didn't even ask them!! it has been bothering me for a while since I lost the receipt for this pants. I mean I though these people could help, but now I am sure. read more

Always fast and friendly service. I've been a return customer for years and have them do regular laundering of wool suit sets and seasonal laundering of a wool coat. I additionally stopped in the other day to finally get shoulder pads on a coat adjusted (they had folded over and been bothering me for years), and the clerk was able to fix them on the spot by pushing the fabric around a bit. I felt a bit foolish that I wasn't able to figure this out, but I'm glad I stopped by, and that they were so proactive with the problem. I rely on Yelp for recommendations for everything, but I really feel like the dry cleaning reviews around Morningside Heights are misleading, so this is my attempt to fix that. Some cleaners in the neighborhood I've had terrible experiences at, despite really good reviews, and others, like Amsterdam Cleaners, I've only had good experiences at, despite the middling reviews. Now, given the price is a bit high compared to what I've seen in other places I've lived, Amsterdam Cleaners is probably realistically a 4 stars kind of place, but given the prices in the area are all basically the same, I'm bumping my rating up to 5 stars (which, according to Yelp, is "As good as it gets," which seems true for this neighborhood). They've cleaned everything for me: suits, shirts, sweaters. I've had basic alterations done, too. Everything is always done well, and promptly, sometimes ahead of schedule. And the people inside are always friendly. So here's hoping the Yelp reviews of the cleaners in this neighborhood become a bit more reflective of actual quality! read more

I got three items altered here and they ruined every single one. I honestly think the "tailor" doesn't know how to sew. Both of my jean hems (Seven for All Mankind, Rock and Republic) were uneven, so that's basically $200 down the drain. I didn't even ask for the original hem! The silk dress I asked to be taken in (a relatively simple task) now has crude stitches along the side. And honestly, I'm wondering whether they actually dry cleaned my pants. If you love your clothes, never EVER take them here to be cleaned or altered. I lost $300 worth of clothes here; I can barely wear them in their current condition. I started coming here because of a recommendation from my roommate who really enjoyed their services and wasn't let down. This business is competent, quick and has extremely reasonable prices. They did such an amazing job cleaning all of my items, but especially my jeans that had a 4 month old stain. I am not a Yelper, but this time I had to say something. Amsterdam Cleaners surpassed by expectations completely when they repaired both a coat and a hat very, very well. The quilted coat had a tear (dog teeth) on the front that they repaired so well you could hardly see the injury. They used not only the same color navy, but a patch with the same sheen as well. As for the hat, it was a NorthFace winter hat that was basically unraveling from the ball at the crown and they somehow put it back together. Amazing! I shrunk my favorite blouse and they restored it to almost perfection, only for $6. The customer service was amazing; Diana let me try on the blouse to make sure it was back in its original conditional, and when I asked to get certain things fixed, she offered to fix the details immediately. Amsterdam Cleaners ruined two of my sweaters and then tried to put the blame on me. I dropped off two sweaters to be cleaned and they were returned to me with holes in them, with one sweater so damaged I can no longer wear it. When I brought this to the store clerks attention, he told me that the holes were already in the sweaters prior to the cleaning. Not only is this completely untrue but he should know that any reputable cleaners would check for stains and damages before cleaning. Next, he referred me to the ?store manager who pretended not to know English. Later on, I was told 'mistakes happen' but they did nothing in terms of compensation, not even an apology for so obviously damaging my clothes. read more

I'm upset that I wasted my money here -- both of the items I got dry cleaned here came back with random stains that weren't there before. Not hugely noticeable, but it's evident that this place doesn't put that much care into their service. Also, they straight up refused to give me a student discount because they had "already ticketed" my items. This was prior to payment, so it's not as if they had to correct a credit card transaction. "Next time, next time we'll give you 10% off." Seems like Boris had a similar experience in a previous review below, but his card had already been swiped, whereas mine had not. Hmm looks like Yelp's review filter filtered this out. I think I wrote this before Yelp started auto-filtering. In a nutshell: poor customer service and, at best, mediocre performance. Pretty ticked off that they didn't honor the Columbia University discount that they advertise. Granted, I should have confirmed that the discount had been applied - I only realized the oversight RIGHT after he swiped my card. Cashiers tend to balk when they have to change something that's already been charged - but in the past I have at least been able to get the error corrected in cash. The guy said there was no way to correct it, i.e. he was too lazy. I mean seriously, this is a small business, not a department store - you can't open the effing register and pull out a few bucks? They said they would just give me a credit next time - yeah that helps, I'm MOVING. They should stop advertising the discount. It doesn't look like they ruined my clothes, but they didn't get a water stain off my wool pants. So in short, DON'T COME HERE. read more

For convenience, this place was the closest. As part of my 'spring cleaning', I brought my two silk blouses in for cleaning. None of them had any marks, tears or stains. I picked them up after two weeks. -you pay when u pick up for most however 'store policy' is to pay upfront for alterations and leathers. The price was little above average but I didn't care bc of the convenient location. I came home and opened the bag the next day, i was so disappointed and angry. One of them had so many tears! Silk threads were out in random parts!! I don't know if they do the cleaning themselves or they send clothes out to some places out. However I believe it should be their responsibility to make sure their cumstomers clothes do not get ruined. And if for unfortunate reasons they do, at least be upfront about it. I don't know how this place deals with regular shirts that are 1-3 dollars for cleaning. But! Do not go to this place for nice quality clothes. read more

Do not waste your time, energy and money in this scam ridden place. They will charge you for work you will not ask for and blame YOU for it. I went there before and they charged me $2.50 to clean and press a shirt. I thought I could save a few dollars and wash the shirts in my apartment and asked them to please just press the shirt, assuming that there is no way it will cost more than $2.50. But sure enough I came to pick up my shirt and they charged me $7.50 per shirt!! They said that they decided to hand press it and therefore it the price was so high. Who told them to hand press it? Ive been there numerous time and NEVER hand pressed it. They are scam ARTIST, they are very clever in the art of scamming and use situations like this to charge you more than you should be paying. read more

It breaks my heart to write this review, it really does. The owners are a very nice family and they are incredibly quick to learn regulars. I've had two repairs done to my clothes that have been impeccable and long-lasting. However, I have had at least three sweaters ruined. It is possible that I have a severe moth infestation that my moth balls and cedar planks can't combat, but I've never had holes in my sweaters until I took them here. Additionally, at least one of my blazers has been over-pressed, so many creases have that sheen to them. And lastly, I've had buttons get broken and/or cracked on a few other sweaters. I'd trust this place with standard items that you have little attachment to; however, I am now in the search of a new dry cleaner. read more

First and foremost, they are the most friendly people around. My wife, who works in consulting, gets all her dry cleaning done here and has always told me they do such an amazing job. I'm a student and don't really need dry cleaning or alterations at all, except for today; I had to buy a suit this morning for an event this evening and everything needed alterations. They are such great people and are extraordinarily accommodating; with only five hour until the event, they set me up with alterations and knew exactly what to do. It's a J. The worse customer service.. Went with 3 bags, and the woman was over charging per bag. I asked for the price and she gave me attitude about asking for price. I mean.. If you're going to charge $12 for every bag under 10 lbs, and my total 3 bags should be $12 and you're pricing me at $36, I will have a problem with you! Never going back. read more
