Mi decided to try this place out and I hear they have a wait. So I called to order ahead. The lady who took my call was so sweet and told me give me 20 min. I ordered the green pozole and a fajita plate. Arrived 25 min after opening and boy they were already packed. Great thing to see. There was a wait to be seated and it's nice to see a diverse crowd dinning here. And let's just say when we got home. And I opened that green pozole I was so excited. This was my first time trying green pozole and on a cold day here in Dallas. It's exactly what was needed. The tortillas were so good. You can taste the quality. And the pozole OMG so good. We came to La Moderna Mexican Cafe with family for breakfast. Yum! This is a gem of a place tucked away in a quiet neighborhood. The food was awesome! We had Barbacoa tacos, Menudo and Huevos rancheros; all of which were delicious! The place is not very big but they can accommodate a large group and they have outdoor seating. The parking is along the street. The service was excellent. The whole staff worked together to help each other; Sandy was very friendly. If in the area again we will stop for sure. Incredible hidden restaurant in West Dallas! This place is in my top 5 Mexican restaurants in DFW. Very at home feeling, home cooked meal type place. Loving coming to La Moderna a sweet mom-and-daughter spot in Trinity Groves. It truly reminds me of the food in Los Angeles. Such a warm, family-run place. The food is always fresh, flavorful, and healthy not overly salty, just pure, authentic Mexican cooking. I especially love the chilaquiles. The sisters are always so kind and welcoming, and I enjoy chatting with them when I come in. Mama only speaks Spanish, but ordering is easy with one of the sisters. The food is sooo good, and it's one of my favorite places to enjoy a quiet, peaceful breakfast. read more

I was excited to see all the cars outside the restaurant and the restaurant was almost full. I wish they offered horchata but only had lemonada, pins or jamaica. The breakfast tacos come with two tortillas, potatoes, beans and the eggs you choose. I had bacon and eggs with homemade corn tortillas. The tortillas were fantastic but nothings else had much flavor. Even the salsa verde had very little flavor. I tried the homemade flour tortillas and they had very little flavor as well. We had a family of 7- three moms and teenagers. Some, picky eaters. We drove past this spot and tried it out. We walked in and it was full of Latinos (good sign). We ordered the breakfast tacos and they were delicious- with fresh flour tortillas. I mean DELICIOUS! The restaurant allowed for custom orders for the breakfast tacos (yay for the picky eaters). We also ordered the carnitas tacos and the kitchen made sure to crisp up the carnitas- which is amazing! Not everyone does that. The family that runs the restaurant is SO NICE. We are debating breakfast this morning. We want to try a new restaurant but yesterday's breakfast was so good- we want it again! Note: We are all foodies. Just came back from two weeks in Vietnam. We love good food... and we love La Moderna! Going back to Philly happy! SECOND Note: one other review said the food was lacking flavor. I think she meant the food wasn't salty- which it isn't. We ordered breakfast tacos- it's eggs, potatoes, and chorizo. No sauce on this dish. Just fresh ingredients folded together with a little pepper and salt. Now, I did agree with another reviewer that said the table sauces weren't hot. I would like to see a spicy version! THIRD Note: I think this restaurant doesn't have a lot of reviews is because many of the patrons are Latinos and don't do the Yelp or Google thing. I've been coming to La Moderna MX for over a year now, and it truly feels like one of the best-kept secrets in the neighborhood. Just down the street from where I live, this small, family-owned gem serves some of the most authentic Mexican food I've had in Dallas. Over time, the owners have become like family to me--not just because I eat here two to three times a week, but because of the warmth and hospitality they show every time I walk through the door. The tortillas are always incredibly fresh, the breakfast tacos are made to order and absolutely amazing, and the picadillo beef is easily some of the best I've tasted anywhere. While I personally don't eat menudo, a friend of mine swears by it and says it's the most authentic he's had in the city. La Moderna MX is the definition of a neighborhood hole-in-the-wall--humble, welcoming, and rich in flavor. Every visit feels like a quick escape to a quiet bodega in a village in Mexico. This place serves delicious green posole. Very hard to find since almost all restaurants only serve the red posole. They also have homemade fresh flour tortillas. My husband got mending and said it was delicious. We will definitely be back and highly recommend this place. This place is a " mom and pop" restaurant that serves breakfast all day. It is located in a neighborhood which could have been easily missed. I heard about it from social media Instagram. Which I normally would not have sought this small restaurant out they got me here because of the story they told on that platform! The first item that arrived was the chips and salsa. The chips were crispy and tasted fresh however it lacked salt which is a quick fix with a dash of it with a shaker. The salsa was a paste and not salsa. The chiliqueles were good but not exceptional. The fried potatoes were not cooked to order and were not salted enough. The refried beans were very good! There are no free refills here! The bottled Coke with real sugar was awesome!!! From a scale of 1-10 and 10 being most likely to revisit I would have to say 5. I am going to have to differ to my Mexican root. ( which is non existence ) I can cook this meal at home for $5dollars without any wait at all. Although I want be back here I have tried it and was not too disappointed in the meal. My company with me ordered some tacos which took a long time to prepare. There was a very friendly wait staff who spoke very good English!!! Happy eating everyone.
