We arrived at 6 ish on a Friday evening and it was empty. The service was friendly and quick. There were some flies that wouldn't leave us alone so that was kind of gross...maybe it's just a texas thing. I ordered the Chile relleno and my partner the steak. The food was decent but greasy- esp the steak. They didn't ask how he wanted it cooked and it ended up well done. I had a mango margarita that was good. I liked the tajin rim on it. I was working near my by so I got a torta Cubana to go. It was like $19 with tip and came with a salad instead of fries. It looked nice inside though I left. The service was good and it was ready in less time than she said. I'm Black and had no issues as I saw other people say. The torta itself was very interesting, it's like they just threw a bunch of meats in it but I rather enjoyed it. I already want another one, I'll probably go back soon. read more

Located in the oak cliff area, Tepa is what was on the menu. Seems like a small place but once inside you see the ample room. Staff greeted us and advised us to choose any table. I ordered the camarones a la diabla, which is translates into shrimp devil style. The shrimp was spicy and good. My daughter ordered a quesadilla shrimp and it was good as well. Overall great food, the only thing that lacked was service. The waitress was not very attentive, I'm really big on how a server provides for you. I have worked in the food industry and believe that you should always give the customer and experience not only for a recognition and for tip but because you chose the profession and you should uphold yourself to standards. It wasn't a horrible experience just wished the interaction we had with the waitress was better. read more

I was visiting Dallas and asked the hotel bartender where he and other locals go for local tacos...he, without missing a beat, recommended Tepa. It was a quick drive from the Belmont Hotel through a beautiful neighborhood and we landed at a light filled, easy to park Mexican joint in a strip mall. No regrets! Everything was amazing! We were immediately brought chips and salsa and ordered happy hour margs. I had the frozen, my friend had rocks. Both were neon green and a little sweet, but both packed a serious punch...and more were ordered! I ordered 5 tacos...yes five. Fajita chicken, barbacoa, carnitas, carne asada, and chorizo on corn tortillas. They were served with a mound of cilantro and onion on the side. In addition to the cilantro and onion, they brought out a giant bowl of juicy limes for the tacos. Each taco was better than the last, although I will say, if I had it to do over again, I would skip the chicken and go for chicharron. My friend ordered a three taco combo plate with rice and beans with homemade flour tortillas. She said the tortillas were a game changer and the rice and beans were delicious. We skipped dessert so I can't vouch for that. But everything was amazing and extremely affordable! I'll definitely be back every time I'm in Dallas. read more

Whoever owns Tepa must have the biggest ego in the world. They're located in an area densely packed with other Mexican restaurants but their prices do not reflect the competition. You'd think your entree comes with a side of silver coins. Is the food at least good? No, it absolutely isn't. The barbacoa was by far the best thing I tried and it was just alright compared to nearby spots. The Guisado De Puerco was bland and I'm talking BLANDDDD. Absolutely flavorless. I took the leftovers home and performed a miracle to make it decent. Chips and salsa? Enjoy your 1 free basket. As if they don't already charge enough for their entrees they will charge you $2.50 for a refill and the first basket comes out pretty light too. Alright well I'm already here, can I at least enjoy a nice conversation after a long day at work? No, you can't. When they aren't blasting various genres on the radio they invite a Mariachi band to play and sing at a migraine inducing level after they come to your table and ask if you want to pay them to play right in front of you. Enjoy being deaf if you so choose that option because even 20 feet away my ears were ringing. In addition to having an ego I'm also going to go out on a limb and say the owner is cheap. On a warm day it must have been 10-15 degrees hotter inside the restaurant than outside. How about some fans or AC? If I was hot just sitting I can only imagine how hot the kitchen staff must have been. In an area where you can go to a new Mexican restaurant daily do yourself a favor skip this one. read more

The wait time for the food which was; enchilada Rojas, while my father got a Caldo de res. When we got the food which was AFTER a hour long wait time, which involved a 5-8 minute wait for some service. The restaurant was absolutely empty at 7pm. While waiting we were given some salsa and chips, which honestly tasted like poorly colored water. When the food arrived it was already cold and tasteless. The tortillas which were covering the enchilada fell apart easily. I won't even get into the Caldo de res, which according to my father was the worst thing he has ever tasted. Overall the service was terrible, the food quality horrible. So I really don't understand why it's so "loved". I will never go back if I can help it. read more

I'm a whore for good Mexican food. But this place should be euthanized. (The name of the place is actually TEPA, that's whats on the outside of the building). I live down the street from this place and in my neighborhood, there are DOZENS of Taco stands, Mexican restaurants, people on bikes selling Tamales (Sidenote: can I Yelp about them?)...etc. So BF and I decided to try Tepa. Upon walking in, there was NO ONE in there. This was a Sunday night around 7pm. Good...Bad? After looking at the menu (which has a Baby Goat entree, FYI). I decided on chicken enchiladas. I mean how bad can that be? Ugh...BAD! The chicken was over cooked and the salsa tasted like water, not to mention the tortillas that said enchiladas were in fell apart, I personally like my enchiladas a little more firm that soggy. Rice and beans tasted like they had been sitting under a heat lamp for hours. BF was none to happy with his food, poor guy. That's terrible. Not a good sign. Maybe we went on an off night, and i'd be willing to give it another chance, BUT seeing as there are so many other places to go in my area, not sure if i'll have the time, $$ or energy to waste on this place. We order breakfast tacos Togo yesterday morning. Although the order was incorrect, the tacos were great! Looking for a new place nearby, we decided to go back for dinner. Big mistake. First, they didn't have iced tea. They said they were open to midnight, so not sure why they wouldn't make any. We ordered sodas and water. Two of the sodas did not have ice in them. We then ordered. Each persons food was brought out at different times. The enchiladas tasted good but were very greasy and the meat was supposed to be steak like but you couldn't tell if it was the steak finely chopped or if it was ground beef with a lot of gristle. The veggie torta was good. The tostadas with beef were edible but the meat was gross, too. None of the meals but the torta was eaten. They then closed the blinds with their hands and it got dust all over our food/drinks/tables and ourselves.We then got our check and the prices were different than the menu prices. I assumed with prices of the tostadas being 7.95, it was the meal, but that was for each tostada. Their prices were high for low quality food. I will not be going back. read more

Skip this one. 3rd time we tried this (across from car wash place). Food is average. Service is good. The noise is terrible. The restaurant portion and bar are separated by a partial wall. The bar area - during lunch - has loud discotheque music playing each time we have been here. Then add in guitar and accordian guys playing and singing for tips. We left halfway through the meal because I couldn't hear myself think, much less hear my lunch companion speak. The service is nice, but the food in the other hand, is not. First of all, all of the food feels fatty after you eat it, (not pleasant at all), and tends to be quite bland. The food has little to no taste and the food portions are H U G E. The parillada for two was the length of our table, which is very misleading by the way. The posole is extremely dense and hard to eat, it's also very bland. I've come here several times in hopes of having it taste better, but sadly the food's not getting any better. If I could give this place negative stars I would!! Me and my boyfriend came her once and never went back. My boyfriend found a hair in his torta. When we told our server she didn't believe us. She had very bad attitude. There was also flies EVERYWHERE, flies literally standing in our food it was like we were eating outside. I also told our server about the flies and that they should take care of it. She proceeded to say in Spanish, "every restaurant has flies so i cant do anything, so deal with it." Literally what???? Came here for a late night dinner. One of the few sit down places that stays open late in my neighborhood. My wife ordered the fried tilapia (it was a whole fish with head and tail attached) and I ordered 2 barbacoa tacos and a chicken fajita taco with a side of rice. The rice wasn't seasoned very well and the barbacoa tasted like all fat. The chicken fajita taco was tasty and my wife inhaled the fish. So I know that was good. Three years ago , the name of the restaurant was shortened from Tepatitlan to Tepa . This is quality authentic Mexican food and you will not find any canned sauces or liquid soy based artificial cheese .. This is NOT a TEX-MEX joint that serves microwave frozen enchilada dinners covered with imitation canned cheese sauce and ketchuppy sauce . If you like awesome authentic Mexican food and are tired of low quality Tex - Mex , this is the place . In fact , my wife is from Mexico and this is one of the few places she likes . Everything is fresh and natural here. You can even see them making the tortillas through the window near the entrance ! The menu includes birria , barbacoa , al pastor and most of the other favorites . Their guacamole is one of the few places that uses fresh avocados instead of the processed green soybean cream paste . The salsas are some of the best I've ever had . Even the lemonade is handmade from fresh lemons !!! I've tried the tacos , enchiladas , and the awesome fajitas with fresh cilantro , onions and everything was cooked to perfection . They also have some excellent seafood including fried Tilapia. They have marisco soups incuding siete mares . On weekends you can hire the musicians to play songs at your table . read more

Although the staff was friendly and my meal wasn't bad it wasn't particularly good either. I can appreciate that the place wasn't catered to Caucasians and it was very cheap. I brought a friend that had some serious problems with his dish. He isn't the kind to complain so it must have been really bad. Also, there was no soap in the restroom. Honestly like the service is really good and the waitresses are never rude BUT the food is meh. I ordered the Oak Cliff parrillada and while it did come out hot, the meat was bland. The chicken was unseasoned, there wasn't even salt on it. The "fajitas" are more like brisket and the sausages are more like hot dogs. Drinks are good . The portions are also really big. I absolutely love this place. We moved to the area about a year ago and I decided to try it one day while my car was getting washed across the street, so I walked over. I ordered the chicken tacos, first my chips & salsa came out and I LOVE the salsa here! They use fresh ingredients you can tell it's made fresh daily with plenty of cilantro, onion and lime juice!! Yummmmm then my taco plate came out, the shredded chicken was wrapped in a fresh homemade tortilla w/ white shredded cheese and the chicken was really tasty marinated in a red sauce. I can't really rate the beans because I'm not really a fan of any beans but they looked like average refried beans w/ white cheese on top. The reason car is very good also. They garnish your plate with a side of fresh chopped onions and cilantro. Pile it on your taco, squeeze the fresh lime slice! Add some green sauce that's on the table- OMG HEAVEN. I tried the red table sauce (not salsa) and it's for the very brave who like it HOT my tongue was on fire!! My margarita was good, the chips were good. My husband ordered steak and eggs, I don't know what they marinate with but it's amazing. The servers don't speak much English but are very friendly and will find someone to translate if they don't understand you. They have fun music in the bar area, mariachi band a few times Ive gone in.
