Paella Especial $120 Meat Mix Grill (Parrillada de Carnes) $85 Ropa Vieja Grandma Style $26 shredded beef cooked with peppers, onions, garlic and red wine. Served with with rice and sweet plantains Only thing I was change is that the guava mojito didn't have any guava flavor Very friendly happy staff. Host was welcoming and dancey. Our waitress recommended the Enchilada De Marisco. I'm so glad I followed her suggestion as it was one of the yummiest meal I had in Miami. The name is a bit deceiving. There's no flour tortilla. Instead, it's a seafood stew with rice and plantains. So fulfilling! My husband had the Cubana sandwich. Bread was toasted and meat was delicious. Also, def try the passion fruit mojito. It came with a large slice of sugar cane. Meals came with fried plantain chips. read more

Came around 10 am on a Saturday and there was plenty of seating inside and outside. Our server Arturo was attentive and quick. We got the cubanito omelette and Mi Pueblo, portions were good and very well made. I can tell the ingredients were high quality. Bathrooms and restaurant are clean! Highly recommend. read more

My friends and I had a great first dinner in Miami Beach here! We made reservations ahead of time so it was simple to get a table upon arrival. Our table split an order of the croquettes and guacamole. Both were excellent, especially the texture of the croquettes. I got their Cuban sandwich for my dinner, and while it was a hefty portion it was scrumptious! I love trying different versions of Cuban sandwiches and this was didn't disappoint! We also got tasty digestif shots at the end of our dinner. Our waitress, Rosa, was very attentive and friendly as well. Would recommend! read more

When in Miami, Cuban food is a must. Based on reviews online, we decided to try the popular La Mulata Cuban Restaurant. The weather was perfect tonight so we enjoyed their outside patio w/ Cuban music in the background. First off service was exceptional! Ask for Rosa, she was great at explaining the menu and giving recommendations. We tried their croquettes, guacamole, Cuban sandwich, churrasco sandwich, vaca frita a la campesina, and camarones al ajillo. All the food was great! My favorite was the vaca frita, tender steak, white rice, and the most flavorful black beans. Pro tip: Ask for their homemade hot sauce, it's delicious on everything. Overall, La Mulata exceeded expectations! Rosa, our waitress, really went above and beyond to make sure we had a great dinner. She really deserves a raise for her warm, welcoming hospitality. On a quick job in Miami and since I was staying in south beach I def wanted the best the city can provide -- in Cuban cuisine. I made the trek from my hotel and found La Mulata. Because of its rave reviews I knew kinda what I wanted. A typical Cuban dish. I went with the Lechon Asado with its Caribbean Latin sides of Mojo (rice and beans) and switch it up from yuca to sweet plantains bc I love them since I was a kid living in Costa Rica. The wonderful thing about Latin cuisine is that they are all different yet the same. It's partly nostalgic but also such a treat. The service by Yordano the server was prompt, gracious, and quick -- got my food in less than 5 minutes!! Properly bc the lechon is cooking all night and day in those wonderful juices!! Omg it was all that I imagined! The restaurant has nice outdoor seating as well as indoor seating. Would def return to try more traditional Cuban dishes! ;-) read more

The food was amazing. I had a paella with shrimp and a very tasty old-fashion. Diego was our waiter and he did a great job. It was exceptional at his suggestions and was detailed on explaining the dishes. The ambience was also very nice, as there was an excellent performer. Found this restaurant from all the positive Yelp reviews. We wanted an authentic Cuban dinner while in Miami. La Mulata was perfect. Started with empanadas, mojitos (2 for 1 night), then I got the Cuban sandwich which was so good but enough for two. My husband got the roasted pork Cuban style dinner, then my daughter got the Sabrositos three small sliders. All really good! The banana chips are the best I've had! We sat inside but a number of people were eating outside. If you are looking for great Cuban food, fun atmosphere and awesome service, this is a must try restaurant. read more

The restaurant was nearly empty - except for a few tourists. The food was pedestrian and overpriced. The waitress seemed to upsell nearly everything. A 20% gratuity was applied automatically - even for a table of two. A very disappointing dining experience. The only positive - the inside decor is interesting and evokes Havana. read more

This little cafe is so cute! Lots of culture integrated throughout! I loved looking up and seeing a clothing line hanging, definitely made me laugh. I got the Abeula's Tostones which was a huge platter. The tostones was super crispy, I couldn't cut through it with a knife, definitely needed to bite it. While it was super cute, I felt it was lacking flavor. I tried my friends Mi Pueblo and that is definitely the move. The beans were so delicious! read more

The service was very attentive. We came during breakfast time. They quickly sat us in and served us in great timing. We appreciated the interior/architecture of the restaurant. We ordered the only two Cuban dishes on the menu. Both were very delicious! The thing about us is that we've been avoiding pork for a while and the dishes we got had a lot of pork, so be mindful if you're in the same boat as us. this place was honestly so overrated AND overpriced like what do u mean a burger is 20 bucks and the tables are mad small, for some reason the menus are huge like 3 menus laid flat on the table cover up the whole table AND why is there a 20% tip like our waiter was cool and all but there doing nothing special that deserves 20% tip but in summary the waiter was alright the food was mid the decor was alright and overall overrated read more

Went to La Mulata Cuban Restaurant in Washington Avenue. Ropa Vieja Grandma style is my favorite I already had it a couple times. It is shredded beef with onion, peppers, garlic and red wine and it was so good and tasty! Fried Calamari for appetizers and Tres Leches Sponge Cake to complete the meal. They are all delicious! I read the glowing reviews and decided to make a reservation. But this is really an overpriced tourist trap. The plastic laminated menu, $25-$45 cocktails... and the food was very mediocre. The Cubano was not pressed very much, kind of puffy bread and bland. I ordered a chicken dish that was supposed to come with grilled onions on top, rice and beans on the side. Instead the plate was just a large piece of pounded chicken breast with a dollop of chunky salsa on top. Rice and beans served in small ramekins on the side. So disappointing! The interior is pretty, but not at all worth it! read more

The place is not big but it's very homey, it's Very clean for a place that caters to lots of tourist the restroom is spotless,happy to have walked 16 minutes to come here with my mom and sister. Yadira took care of us. The food is delicious we had the chefs special meats which it's for 2 but all 3 of us ate. I was surprised when my mom started complimenting the food. For appetizer had the chicken and beef empanadas (both were amazing, my husband couldn't stop talking about them). For dinner I had the Red Snapper ( A MUST TRY ) everything about it was perfect! Yuuuuumm! I grew up in San Antonio and am partial to Hispanic food, but Cuban food is pretty different from the Tex-Mex I eat most often and I mean that in a good way. From the service to the food itself, we all enjoyed La Mulata yesterday for lunch. We started with the beef empanadas and guacamole, both of which were enjoyable. The guacamole was super fresh and limey, served with crisp plantain chips for dipping. The empanadas were stuffed with a very tasty and tender shredded beef that had a delightful umami flavor! I didn't get pictures of either of these because I was at a business lunch and didn't want to seem unprofessional lol. For my entree, I got the pollo asado a la Cubana and a side of plantains, which was all so satisfying! The chicken was tender and moist with a sweet and savory sauce atop. While I thought the rice and beans were solid, the plantains were simply THE BEST. They were sweet and tender and seemed like they were pan fried - ugh, very scrumptious. They might've been my favorite thing I ate the whole meal! I'd highly recommend giving this spot a try. read more

Arrived at La Mulata and were immediately greeted by an extremely friendly host. He gave us a pick of seating and introduced us to an equally nice waiter. The interior of the restaurant is very festive with Latin music playing. We shared a plate of beef and cheese croquettes to start and they were delicious. We then ordered 2 plates to share- paella and half a roasted chicken in a savory sauce with rice and beans. Both were fantastic and we left nothing on the plates. We visited on a Tuesday afternoon. We were immediately greeted and seated. All of the staff we encountered were incredibly friendly and helpful. The interior has a fun atmosphere. We sat inside with the AC but there is also outdoor seating. We were pleasantly surprised that they had happy hour drink specials. I enjoyed both of my mojitos! Another bonus was they offered us complimentary plantain chips. We shared the lechón asado a la guajira. Every bite was fantastic! The flavors especially in the Moro rice and yuca were unforgettable. However, when the bill arrived, we were informed that the manager had already left and the discount could no longer be honored. Instead, we were given only the $4 happy hour discount, despite being promised otherwise. For our entrées, we ordered the brisket sandwich and the half chicken. Neither was worth ordering. The chicken lacked the crispy texture it was advertised to have, and the brisket was bland and without flavor. The sandwich was also supposed to come with truffle fries, but instead we were served cold, plain fries. After mentioning it, the solution was to bring us a side of truffle oil and Parmesan cheese and ask us to mix it ourselves. The service was equally disappointing. We asked our server twice for drink refills, but she never brought them. We eventually had to flag down another server just to get our beverages refilled. Overall, this was a frustrating dining experience from start to finish. Between the poor-quality food, unfulfilled promises regarding the bill, and inattentive service, this restaurant fell well below the standard I would expect from a Miami establishment. I rarely leave negative reviews, but this experience deserves one. I sincerely hope management addresses these issues because the current level of food quality and customer service is simply unacceptable. and quality is embarrassing for miami.

I was also a little disappointed by the restaurant service, which felt indifferent and not especially welcoming. My husband had the Cubano, and I got the ropa vieja, both of which were incredible. Coming from CA, it's rare to find food this authentic and flavorful. The food was good, but was so very salty I couldn't eat the entire entree (pork, rice, beans). The beans were good. The rice good. The prok goo to a point. Oh, they have also changed their name. Whatever someone's political beliefs may be, I believe that anyone working in a customer-facing role should make every guest feel welcomed and respected. Overall, the food was good, Chris was wonderful, and the space itself was nice. But hospitality is about more than food and decor; it is also about how people feel when they walk through the door. I hope the owners take that part of the guest experience seriously, because no restaurant benefits when customers leave feeling unwelcome.
