    Paisa de la Olla
    Dexter V.

Small restaurant located within the mall. But don't let the small size fool you. Absolutely delicious food, with all the flavors of Colombia expressed in a meal that is quickly ready. It's a solid choice for those moments when at the mall and the hunger bear strikes. Tip of the day: get the paisa de la olla!

Located in the Brea mall to the right of Macys! I definitely recommend this little restaurant. My Colombian boyfriend said that this is a piece of home. The Perro Callejero is absolutely delicious. A loaded hotdog paired with excellent sauces and crispy chips. Each bite is filled with flavors. They also have many types of Colombian sodas and natural juices. Our favorites are the Pony Malta! Definitely get an arepa as well. Simply delicious. The service is so nice and friendly. We will definitely be back to try more items!

I was in San Diego and quite literally had the best Colombian food and thought I'd try this spot here in Brea. I was sadly disappointed- the arepa was hard as a hockey puck and when I told them he said they are made in the morning - um that's unacceptable! My plantains were not properly fried, the chicharron lacked flavor. This was not worth $20 - the food was incredibly underwhelming and the service was subpar. I guess I shouldn't expect too much from mall food but then again I shouldn't expect to pay almost $90 for three plates and a tip for no service.

Perros Colombianos and Arepa Bites (with Manzana and Panela con limón)

We drove out from Downey because we LOVE Colombian hot dogs. There are other Colombian restaurants around, but it's more rare to find the street food they sell here. My husband and I both got perros and shared the arepa bites. 10/10 recommend! The staff was very friendly and were happy to answer people's questions that weren't sure about menu items. The inside of the place is really well-designed. It is next to the food court, but it it's own little restaurant with its own seating. Next time, I want to try their buñuelos and a bigger plate, maybe the bandeja or an arepa. Can't wait to be back!

My girlfriend and I tried this place today, we ordered 2 hotdogs ( $11.99 each hotdog!) even though the place was empty they took a very long time to bring the food, and then surprise! taste completely bland, food messy and horrible.

This colorfully decorated quick service restaurant in Brea mall was worthy of a stop! The arepa bites were so tasty. Will definitely be back to try more things from the menu

I went to the Brea Mall with my wife and found this Colombia restaurant near the food court. Since my wife is Colombian we wanted to try it. First, the restaurant is very clean and nicely decorated with contemporary wall art. The restaurant was not crowded despite being a little small, perhaps 6 tables. You walk to the counter to order your food and the counter person was extremely helpful and friendly in explaining the menu. I ordered the Arepa loca with a side order of beans. The dish was an arepa cut in half and inside was a mixture of corn, lettuce, cheese, shredded chicken and chorizo. The beans were kidney beans. My dish was served in a takeout container and overall well seasoned. My wife's dish was a boquiabierta, a sort of taco served with an arepa and filled with shredded beef, lettuce, and cheese. Both plates were fresh and well seasoned and came with a half dozen salsa...very uniquely different. I enjoyed the overall experience but I definitely would like to try different menu items.

I tried this item, Papaslokas. It was super filling and delicious . Want to enjoy some Colombian food, go here. And you go shopping in the Brea Mall as well .

Nothing in the food court really stood out to me today so I came in here. The place was very clean and the lady at the front counter was very helpful with ordering and with how to pronounce the menu. I had a boquiabierta with sausage and chicken and the house sauce, a creamy garlic-type deal. It was very fresh, obviously made to order, but didn't take too long to come out. I would come back to try the rest of the menu.

Tonight I ordered a Beef Arepas with a side of fries - the fries are always amazing. I'm an uncultured American so this was the 1st time I've had an Arepas. The shell's crunchy on the outside and soft on the inside and the shredded beef's tender and delicious. I'm sad it took me until I was 50 to try one of these. I still can't figure out what's in the green sauce but I really like it. And they gave me a another sauce today, I jabe no idea what it is, but I'll ask for more next time. On a sparsely traveled side street that separates the Target parking lot from the 91 freeway, is an attraction that will have you slamming on your brakes and craning your neck to see what the fuss is all about. The day we came, a Sunday afternoon, there were about 10 different, brightly colored trucks lined up along the curb, lights flashing, music blaring, and lines starting to form. You can park your car in the adjacent parking lot, there's plenty of room! Yes, this a very successful food truck according to Yelp. And by far the most patronized truck I saw that day. Inside the tiny galley kitchen are 4 hustling adults, including sweet Isabelle, the food ambassador of a husband and wife duo. I loved her enthusiasm and bright smile. At this point, I want to mention that Columbian taste buds are more finicky than many of their Central and South American brothers. So do not expect hot chile anything. Their palates prefer milder, not spicy foods, even though one of the sauces served with the empanadas was a garlicky, bright, herbal, oily sauce, not unlike the Argentinian chimichurri sauce. They call it aji (ah hē). I find it very addictive. Bandera Paisa - this is a combo plate that features a fat, Columbian chorizo (a non spicy sausage), a pile of moist shredded beef, a large strip of pork belly, white rice, Columbian red beans, a fried egg, avocado, and several pieces of fried sweet plantain. There is also one Cheese Arepa included. This dish can easily be shared by two and is a phenomenal deal and interesting taste adventure. Beef Arepa. This is basically a fried masa pocket substantially filled with their signature shredded beef, then topped with guacamole and white cheese. This is very similar to their beef empanadas, so I would encourage ordering one or the other, not both. It's big. Beef Empanadas (3). This is not your usual empanada. The generous beef filling is made from their sensational slow-cooked, flavorful shredded beef with a hint of corn and vegetables. The pastry is actually made of a coarse grained masa, formed into the traditional moon-shape, then deep-fried. It is heavier and far more filling than what I am accustomed to, but it has a chewy, coarse textured mouth appeal and rich flavor. One order is 3 empanadas. They offer an interesting variety of drinks, the most notable being their iced Columbian coffee (intensely rich, creamy, and sweetened) and a Passion Fruit Slushy that is an exotic fruity perfection. Both are pre-made and served out of a dispenser. Columbiana soda, plus other sodas and juices, are available in bottles and cans. The only downside is the seating. A few wooden tv trays and canvas folding chairs are set up on the uneven dirt adjacent to the sidewalk. It appears that using the sidewalk is off limits for seating. I loved their cute, vibrant Cuban music, but oftentimes it became overwhelming as it competed with another truck's equally loud Mexican music right next to them. That, and the seating, effectively convinced me that eating my food elsewhere was probably a better idea, even though sweet Isabelle was frequently checking in on us to make sure we had everything we needed. Our bill was really reasonable, considering the amount of food we had. It was approx. $42, and there was plenty to bring home for another day.

It was our first time and happened to dine during one of their collab nights. We were disappointed at first because we were craving Colombian food. But the limited menu looked promising so we gave it a go. It turned out that everything was delicious. The spare rib was fall off the bone tender and had great smoky flavor. The beans were surprisingly tasty too. (I always find beans an unnecessary and bland accompaniment). I absolutely loved the brisket stir fry. The flavors blended well and it had a nice kick. The meat was so tender and I appreciated the meat to noodle ratio. The chicken inside the empanada was deliciously smoky but not overly so and the crust was the right consistency and crisp. It came with 3 sauces which were good but would have like a more spicier option. I tried two cocktails that were in the collab menu. The black old fashioned was too strong for me. I definitely preferred the buffalo soldier which was tasty and refreshing. My favorite dessert was the Natilla. It was like a flan mousse and so good. The toasted coconut flakes added a nice texture. The oblea was fun to eat. That cream and jam were a great combo. Overall a worthwhile experience. I hope to come back to try their regular menu items.

The clerk working the store was very friendly and offered me a sample as soon as I walked up. My concern was whether it would be crunchy-hard, since I've had empanadas in the past that were hard. I'm not a fan of hard foods (looking at you banh mi) - but the clerk noted they were all soft and the sample proved that. I ordered a Mushroom ($4), Chicken ($4) and Beef Steak ($5) - each empanada was perfectly portioned, slightly crunchy/golden brown on the outside, but soft and doughy on the inside, with generous fillings. These taste similar to the chalupas you can get at Taco Bell (just better quality). The mushroom was probably my favorite one - with chunks of mushroom in a nice, cheesy blend. Each bite was perfect - and the melted cheese texture also complimented the meatless option. The quality of the chicken filling wasn't the best - it reminded me of a Hot Pocket - was forgettable as the bits were dry and flavorless. The beef steak option was great - full of chunks of beef steak, onions, tomatoes and some sort of salsa sauce inside. It made each bite full of flavor and delicious. The clerk gave me two containers of the green sauce - which is the perfect compliment to the empanadas - not too spicy, mild but with just enough of a kick to it. Be sure to ask for these instead of jalapenos. The food stand took cash and had a sign that indicated they accept credit cards as well. Prices are reasonable for the quality, portion size and fillings of the food.
