Not great. We should have known to turn away when we noticed the fresh vomit littering the sidewalk in front. The food did not taste good. La Palapa Too has become my family's go-to Mex restaurant-- it's nearby, affordable, and the food is consistent. It's not the best food, but it's also never been bad. The service has always been pretty good-- some of the servers could be a bit more knowledgable about the menu, but overall they are good. Be aware, though, that this parking lot is pretty horrible. It's poorly laid out and people are aggressive in it. It hasn't been a big problem for weekend lunches, but when I've been on Friday or Saturday nights it's taken a while to find parking. read more

We hosted our 40th Wedding anniversary March 2nd at LaPalapa Too for 20 people. The food was amazing and Letty and German did a wonderful job with the seating and accommodations for our group. Last week was my first time visiting this restaurant. The ambiance is very relaxing, cozy, warm and friendly. The staff is very welcoming. The menu offers a variety of dishes to choose from. I had the seafood enchiladas with rice and beans. It was delicious. One thing I have never experienced is to have the business owner stop by the tables and ask everyone if they are doing well and enjoying their meal and time at the restaurant. The owner is a very wonderful, cheerful and beautiful lady that genuinely cares for people and wants to ensure that everyone's experience at her restaurant is memorable. I enjoyed my meal at La Palapa Too and I look forward to many other meals. I will definitely recommend this restaurant to my family, friends and co workers! read more

A terrific place for happy hour and good food and discounted specials. Had lots of the menu and always was very pleased. Prices were a little high for Mexican plates compared to other similar restaurants. Also, some specials and happy hour prices do not extend to the outdoor seating. We have been going to this restaurant for several years and always ordered the same thing, cheese enchiladas, but always asked for the mole sauce instead of the red sauce it usually comes with. We were never previously charged extra for this. Today we were informed there would be an extra charge. We were annoyed but said ok. However, when we got the bill we found out we were charged $2.00 each just for a different sauce! When we spoke with the manager, we were given a convoluted explanation to the effect that since the mole sauce was usually used on chicken enchiladas that it was more expensive. Actually, the chicken enchiladas are only $1.50 more and presumably that's because they have chicken, not because they have mole sauce. We finally gave up and paid the extra charge but we will never be back. read more

The service usually leaves a bit to be desired (on our most recent visit we had to ask for refills for both beverages and chips), but the food is delicious enough to keep you coming back. The fish tacos are some of the best I've ever had and the quesadillas are also very good. The food comes out quickly and is always hot and fresh. An update: Soon after my initial review, I returned with my kids. When the eaitress came to the table, she informed (asked? I don't recall) that she was in training and that there would be two people taking care of us. Throughout that experience I noted the trainer speaking to the waitress about little points of this and that. On the next visit, service was far better, and on subsequent visits, I have noticed that the standard has risen and has been maintained. So, Yea for Yelp! And Yea for managers/owners who pay attention! And Yea that my vegetarian daughter can get her favorite burrito with a non-grumpy father! Good stuff. read more

My fiancé and I go here on a weekly basis. We love sitting at the bar and talking to Emily, one of the bartenders. She is great; we even have become regulars to the point where she remembers our order. She has a great memory and really cares about her customers; she makes it a point to have an interaction with you more than just asking for an order. It always helps to have someone care about customer service (Emily). It's a great business! We love the steak quesadillas and the happy hour specials; you just can't beat it! 3 dollar house margaritas along with half off appetizers, including all quesadillas. read more

My Mom and I went for lunch on Monday afternoon. Seated right away and service was fine but nothing spectacular. I ordered an ice tea, combo (one tamale, one pork enchilada, beans and rice). We shared a guacamole app and Mom ordered a soda and one bean taco. Cost over $40, pre tip. Seriously?! For Mexican food and no bar tab for 2 people for lunch? What???Beans were our favorite. Pork filling in enchilada was awesome but cold corn tortilla with sour green enchilada sauce sprinkled on top didn't help. Pepper making up the tamale had great flavor but filling just a slab of barely melted cheese, granted lots of it, but it's just cheese. The releno was not fried, which made it tastier. Rice was mediocre at best, but admit to not being the biggest fan of Mexican rice. Place is clean and decorated charmingly, which is appreciated. read more

We used to get excellent food from this place until about a year ago. Prior to the pandemic we noticed that when we got food on any other day but Sunday, there was something seriously wrong (undercooked chimichangas with raw dough, etc.). Today (a Wednesday for a late lunch) my taco salad was so bad I had to trash it; the shell tasted like someone sprayed it with Fabreeze, or possibly one of the cooks put on some kind of cologne (AXE?) with his hands and then handled the shell. I had other people try it to be sure it wasn't just me. All agreed something had saturated part of the shell and contaminated the food in the shell. Worse, I've been very ill the remainder of the day. We kept giving them second chances, thinking perhaps they were having an off day, but it has happened so frequently that we probably won't be going back. read more

So I have mixed emotions about this place. First things first, they are a little pricey. I personally feel there are better places out there with better food and at a much cheaper price. I mean they charge extra for chips and salsa once you finish the first batch ??? Everywhere else its free chips and salsa. The service was kind of slow as well. My wife and I met very close friends for a dinner this past Thu Apr 18th. It was a beautiful spring evening, perfect for eating outdoors. Little did I know the weather would be the highlight of the night. In short, the food was mediocre at best, and the service was terrible. On the food side, one of our friends is a vegetarian and she had some grilled vegetable she said were OK, but way to oily. Our other friend had a burrito which he said was all shell and no filler. My wife had the fish tacos, which she said were very overdone and not flavorful. I had the tortilla soup and ceviche. I must say the ceviche was good, but I have had MUCH better soup out of a can. My friend would have sent back her veggie dish and I would have done the same with my tortilla soup. But if no server stops by, even after getting their attention, that's tough to do (see below). On the service side, once seated it took forever for a server to stop by. When he finally did, it was weird, as he seemed to try to rush us into giving our beverage and drink orders. However, once we did, we NEVER saw him again after our initial drinks came until when we asked for the check. NEVER. As I said, the weather was beautiful and the company was outstanding. The dining experience not so much. I would advise that La Palapa Too really has to up it's game, but after 165 Yelp reviews with an average rating of 3, they already know that. I came here for lunch with some coworkers, and got the combinatos. The meal was a great lunch- 2 tacos with some beans and rice. Nothing too much or too little. We got a few bowls of chips and salsa- even though it's on the menu, you can get it on the house! We encountered some confusion on that front... and I'll forgive the busboy for not knowing what we were asking about. I've been there. The reason I gave less than a flawless review was because it took so damn long to get the check! We were sitting there without plates in front of us for a solid 15 minutes before we flagged someone down, and then it was still another 5 minutes before our waitress returned to the table to ask if we were ready for the check! And then she started making margaritas for another table. It wasn't busy, or this would be easy to forgive. I'd say we were sitting around after the meal for about as long as we were before it, and for a slow lunch hour (where you know everyone is on a time crunch cause they have to get back to work) it was unacceptable. The experience told me I can't pick food up from there for lunch, which means they lose most of my business. read more

Worst service ever. It took 10 minutes for our waitress to acknowledge us and a half an hour for her to bring us a drink. Then it took 45 minutes to get food. Once we had our food, our waitress could barely be bothered to check on us or any of her other tables. We literally had to flag her down to ask for more water and get our check - which we waited another 10 minutes for her to come back for before we gave up and took our check up to the front desk. I wish I had checked the reviews before we went because a lot of them echo this complaint. To me, having worked in several restaurants, consistently slow kitchens and consistently apathetic front-of-the-house service point to poor management. I have only been here once before but with food so average and service so poor, I doubt I will ever go back. Skip it. read more

Best restaurant experience of my life!! We came last Tuesday, the 21st and service was superb:) First off, the hostess was so friendly and sat us quickly with no problems. Also, our server Sydney was great, she would get into conversation with us about everything, which I love in a server. She was very attentive to our requests with a smile on her face the whole time. When I go out to eat, I don't like to be bothered too much, and I think she did a great job giving us our space while we ate. The margaritas were to die for and the food was phenomenal! Went with friends to LaPalapa Too in Maple Lawn for the first time on Saturday, May 5th. They had a special Cinco de Mayo party set-up in a large tent located just outside the restaurant. Inside the tent they had tables and chairs, a dance-floor, and a DJ who was really good! He played a range of upbeat music that kept folks up on the dance floor. They also had a couple of Tequila/Margarita and taco stations in and around the tent for convenience, so you didn't actually have to go inside the restaurant to order food and drinks if you didn't want to. We had such a blast, we stayed nearly 6 hours!! Everyone was so friendly. Our servers Andrea and Victor were phenomenal and truly interactive with the guests. They were both so friendly and accommodating and the service was good! You could tell, they really wanted everyone to have a good time. We started out with the guacamole bowl and it was some of the best guacamole I've EVER had!!! They were also extremely generous with the fresh tortillas chips. Then, I ordered steak tacos and all I could say was "oh-my-gawd!!!" Those tacos were soooo good! The steak was so tender and nicely marinated/seasoned and the other ingredients were so very fresh. I kept eyeing my friend's combination fajita plate which had steak, chicken and shrimp. She finally allowed me to try the shrimp. Mmmm-Mmmmm good! The shrimp were plump and lightly seasoned with tasty Mexican flavors and nicely seared. My only regret was that my belly couldn't handle a second plate of food. The place was packed! And considering the amount of people there, I was pleasantly surprised and impressed with how clean, well stocked and freshly scented the ladies room was the entire time I was there. And I had to go several times because of those delicious drinks they were serving (which were generously poured). Each time I went inside the restaurant, I kept encountering a beautiful and elegant lady in a classy red dress (who I assumed was the owner/floor manager) continuously walking the floor, checking in with guests, the servers and the kitchen. She was on the job and handling business quite well!!! Each time I came upon her, she gave me a genuinely warm and friendly smile. Although I didn't actually eat inside the restaurant, I feel like I can still give them 5-stars for excellent service, excellent food, great drinks and clean facilities. Oh and when the check came, I was pleased with how reasonably priced the appetizers, entrees and drinks were. You get your money's worth for sure! I am sufficiently motivated to return on a regular night for more of that delicious food. Until then, I'll be craving the steak and guacamole! Way to go LaPalapa Too!!! I would have rated 3 stars because the food and drinks are what you'd expect from a mexican chain restaurant, BUT I HAVE CELIAC DISEASE and the waitress got me and my friend (also celiac's) incredibly sick because instead of checking with the kitchen, which she said she did, she assumed several items were Gluten Free, but they were most definitely NOT GF. If you've got any type of food allergy Play it Safe and eat somewhere else where the staff are more knowledgeable about allergies and take them seriously. read more

I had such a wonderful experience here tonight! First off, we immediately got a table at 7PM on Mother's Day... amazing considering how great the food, atmosphere and service were. Jake was a top notch server and really added to the magic of the experience. So many good moments to go over but I think my favorite was when I asked for hot sauce and Jake said they had Tapatio or a homemade sauce made with habaneros. I opted for the homemade option. After 5 minutes or so I started to wonder where it was... and then Jake came out of the kitchen and apologized and explained they had run out and he had to make more. (He was still wearing the gloves like you would want when working with fresh habaneros! And considering this, the wait for it wasn't long at all.) It was delicious (and spicy!) and then one of the chefs came out with yet another sauce, this time even spicier, made especially for us. UPDATE. Went this past weekend to watch the Barcelona match because El Azteca was packed. There have definitely been some changes. The salsa has improved tremendously - there is a lot of garlic and onion flavor and is much thicker. They also have no problem with refills. The fajitas and chicken tacos al carbon were still okay (grilled chicken), but I was very impressed with the chicken tortilla soup, the single crispy chicken taco (shredded chicken) and the single chicken enchilada (shredded chicken). To start, the chicken tortilla soup broth was rich and had depth and was full of chicken, vegetables, etc. A touch of Cholula made it just what I needed on a cold winter day. I ordered the taco and enchilada a la carte and found the shredded chicken to be very flavorful and juicy. Overall, a much better experience, and now I would go back. read more

While staying at the hotel across the street we decided to try a close place for dinner. We sat at the bar. I had the Supreme fajitas, steak, chicken, and shrimp. They came our hot and sizzling just like they are supposed to. My husband ordered the fajita salad with steak. We had several cocktails and enjoyed the complimentary chips and salsa. Hubby was in his uniform and was given 20% off our tab. Given the proximity to the hotel and the patriotism we will definitely return. read more

Everything was fine, the food is delicious and the menu offers anything you want. but my main purpose for the the review is to compliment our server, Sydney. She is terrific. She is pleasant and very, very helpful. She knows the menu inside out and can tell you anything you ask about items. She is quick and seems to really enjoy her job. The smallest amount of really-lame bang for your hard-earned large amount of bucks. I went here at my mother's suggestion for my birthday dinner, which was my first mistake. I came as a vegetarian, and there were a good selection of options. My water came filled to the top, which is always a good sign...unfortunately once I drank it all, it was only refilled once in the last 10 minutes of the meal. Our food took a while to come out, and it looked pretty unappetizing to say the least. The vegetables looked worse-for-wear, the beans looked like they'd been enjoyed by many, many, many people before they landed on my plate, and the whole thing was pretty nasty. It reappeared later. Then we got the check, which was outrageously high considering the quality of food and service. My guests had equally poor experiences, and it unfortunately really put a damper on the celebratory vibe we were trying to cultivate. We all left in somber and queasy moods. You probably won't find yourself near this strip mall unless you are going to get acupuncture at Tai Sophia or you work at the Johns Hopkins Physics Lab, but this is a better choice than Chick-Fil-A or Subway. I had two fried fish tacos ($8.95), which had more fried batter pieces than tilapia. The rice and the refried beans weren't dry and the free chips and salsa a plus. I liked that they had a big patio in the front and one table with no umbrella which I chose to soak up my RDA of Vitamin D. The service was fast and nice, although the table next to me didn't seem very pleased when a breakfast burrito was not ordered with cheese but they put it on top for presentation anyway. Absolutely the worst Cinco de mayo. A few years back I went to La Palapa in Ellicott City. I should've went back to Ellicott City. We went for a DJ and drink specials. The drink specials were not so special and the DJ turned out to be karaoke. We dealt with songs so untraditional to Latin or Spanish festivities. I could have went to Remingtons and had a better time. I almost waived down a plane trying to get a bartenders attention. I definitely will not be back. At least to this location but after today I really have a bad taste in my mouth. read more

I've been to this restaurant a few times, and I've always left far too stuffed to function (my own fault, of course). The crab and shrimp enchilada is my favorite; it's a bit on the pricey side, but it's crab and shrimp, and them's the breaks. Two things to be aware of: the queso dip is great but more spicy than that served by most places, and the acoustics of the restaurant occasionally make it hard to talk with a dining companion on the nights they have live music in the restaurant itself. All the same, this is a great place to get Mexican food in the area. read more

I've been coming here on and off for years and this latest visit reminded me why I visit rarely. When I first started coming here years ago, the service and food were both top notch. Sadly over time the food has suffered a bit while the service has suffered greatly. Fortunately for this establishment there are only a few restaurants in the area, so I suspect folks overlook the spotty service since the place is close to home. Bar service was painfully slow as usual. Our server was ok though. Food is decent, but this is the ONLY Mexican joint I've ever been to that wants to charge for tortillas and salsa...weird. I wish I could be more positive with this review than I'm going to be, considering the very nice welcome we received upon entry. The hostess was kind and efficient, though the noise level when we entered was a little overwhelming. Sometimes you can get accustomed to a high noise level, but on a recent Friday night, it was difficult to have a conversation. BTW, previous comments about the chips and salsa are definitely true. The salsa is worse than jarred salsa, really tasteless. La Palapa Too has a nice, if a bit standard, Mexican menu. The margaritas were good, but my friend's was completely tasteless when it arrived. We figured out that the bartender forgot to add tequila! We sent the drink back, and got a much better drink. Ordering dinner was another adventure. My friend ordered a side salad with dressing on the side. Once the order came, it was a dressed Caesar salad with dressing on the side! (Why send dressing on a previously dressed salad? Why didn't she get the side salad she asked for?) The food itself wasn't bad, she had a quesadilla, I had the asada de puerco - sorta tasty, but basically pedestrian. The tortillas could have come from the refrigerator section of the local Giant Food. Service is definitely a problem here. It's inattentive, and the waitrons don't seem to care much whether you have a good meal or not. The salad misunderstanding shouldn't have happened - the waitress should have let us know that any small/side salad is a Caesar salad. I don't know why the restaurant is so crowded on a Friday night other than to think that folks in the Fulton area have no other choices for Tex/Mex food, or they don't care much about what they eat. If you have a choice, don't bother coming to this place. read more
