My sincere advice to local patron is that if you do not have anything else going on for the evening, you are set at La Palapa 2. They will consume your entire evening with there not so Speedy Gonzalez service. Perhaps I have come during their "siestas". Unimpressed. Sangria was $6 a glass and was below average. The chips were pretty yummy but the salsa was very watery. Queso reminded me of the tostidos queso you get from the jar. It was nasty. I ordered the mole enchiladas with veggies and a side salad. The veggies were so good. Steamed squash, broccoli, and lots of other delicious veggies. The salad was okay. Better than most side salads( it has mushrooms FYI). My enchiladas were disgusting. The mole sauce was horrible! I opened up the tortillas and it was simply the fajita chicken with mole sauce. Lapa lapa too is my go to if I want a GOOOD margarita or some queso. Chris? I wanna say is here name (wear glasses). He showed amazing customer service as far as recommending what to eat, drink and was so helpful. When hes in the bar its perfect service. Ive been in the bar once before and there was an older lady who was rude and so unhelpful so I asked the hostess if she could find us a table. Thats been my only problem here. If I could give 0 stars, I would, but it requires me to give at least one. That one star is NOT deserved. I ordered from La Palapa Too last night via Carryoutmenu.com. I placed an order for the Cuatro Combination (which was on the menu at carryoutmenu.com) with two enchiladas and two tacos. I received a call about 15 minutes later informing me that La Palapa no longer had the cuatro combination, and asking if I would like something else instead. So, I asked if they still had the dos combination platter, thinking I would just split the order into two dos combinations, one with two tacos and and one with two enchiladas. I was told that the restaurant no longer does combination platters at all. So, I was very disappointed and canceled my order. If it is not available, it shouldn't be on the menu. If it is on the menu and someone orders it, then the restaurant should make sure they get it if at all possible. This was a matter of giving me the enciladas and tacos I ordered (which they have) for the price I thought I was going to pay. Then, carryout menus and La Palapa Too could work it out among themselves, but KEEP THE CUSTOMER HAPPY. At any rate, later, when I went to the restaurant's own website, their menu still had the dos combination platter. So.....why couldn't my order be switched? Why was I told that they don't have something that is on their own menu? Why was I unable to get something that was on the menu that I ordered from? Thanks to this experience, I will NOT be going to La Palapa Too EVER, nor will I use carryoutmenus again. read more

The setting: FANTASTIC!!! But you can't eat the patio. The setting was spoiled by cigarette smoking at a table near the entry that blow across the entire dining area. The food: Well? This restaurant is not friendly to groups. There are much better quality restaurants in the surrounding area. I've had poor service and mediocre food. On two separate occasions, I've gone there for a special - once because of an email, and once trying to order the special on their table-tent card, and was told by the waitress that those specials didn't apply today or at the time I was trying to order them. I've been here 4 or 5 times b/c it's right down the road. TL;DR: Bad food, overpriced, poor-to-terrible staff. Avoid. The food is terrible. Most everything is tasteless... the meat (both chicken and beef... the pork can be ok), the cabbage, the beans, and especially the rice. You can find worse, but why would you look? Oh, and the prices are more than you'd ever want to pay for what you get. Had a waiter who only knew "salsa verde" as "green sauce." The wait staff is comprised of local high schoolers. That I can live with. What I can't live with is Sunday nights, when the 3 piece guitar trio plays, and the stupid rhythm guitarist gets loaded and starts hitting on people in my party ("you're an ancient lady")... for about 20 minutes. The hostess laughed, the waiter avoided getting involved (I was told later). Again, they're high schoolers, so I'm not shocked. However that there was no manager around, or anyone else who could taker care of this is unacceptable. Wasted 20 minutes of my life, and began to get quite angry. Was told he had done the same thing to the hostess ("you were in my dreams last night"), and a small child ("i saw you last night", and apparently the mother got very angry). There's not a whole lot to say about this place. I mostly come here out of convenience and the price point isn't bad. It's a go-to for a quick dinner after work before my commute home to Alexandria. On days that I leave work later and don't want to wait till I get home and eat dinner too close to bed time, I'll stop by here, grab a seat at the bar, and grab a salad and margarita. Their margarita selection is extensive and they have free chips and salsa in front of you as soon as you are seated. Food is consistent and the taco salad is a good portion size for a semi-healthy dinner (especially if you leave the shell behind). Their nachos are good too if you're splurging lol read more

There was a time that I would have given a higher rating but no longer. In the last several times I have eaten at La Palapa Too the food quality has been poor. I'm not sure if they changed their kitchen staff or something else is wrong but the food just isn't good. I've visited La Palapa several times at various locations over the past few years. Every time the service is super friendly, the atmosphere in fun, friendly and inviting and the food is solid. I LOVE their mucho nachos, Soooo good! The beans and cheese just melt off of every chip (Mmmm just thinking of it makes me want to jump in the car and head over there now!) As for the main course I've had several dishes - vegi burrito, shrimp burrito, crab and shrimp enchiladas, quesodillas.. All were outstanding. Every time I'm at la Palapa I Need to have a margarita and their margs are HUGE and delish! Don't pass them over! Also their desert flan is spot on! Soo yummy Give it a shot! read more

Just went to there tonight and was very disappointed. The Margarita Azul was pretty good. However, their queso didn't even taste like there was cheese in it. Just pepper! I ordered their combination plate with a tamale, beef taco and cheese enchilada. The tamale was drowning in sauce which I guess was put in place to distract the customer from the abscence of filling, the taco was cold and the enchilada didn't have much flavor. Had a bite of the rice and beans that came with it. The rice was dry and the beans were just horrible. Just to make sure I got the full experience, I ordered the flan. My fiancee and I went yesterday and ordered a California burrito and a beef burrito. The food was cooked really well and tasted amazing. I had their house drink (cazueca) i think that's how u spell it and the mojito. The mojito was strong just the way I like it. They aren't stingy with the alcohol. The house drink was good but it had so much fruit in it i could barely taste the tequila. Our waitress however was nice but her personality underwhelmed me. It seemed like it was her first time serving. Other than that I love this place. Will be back for a cheat meal. read more

What does any good Mexican restaurant need to get right? Chips and salsa. Quality if not home made tortillas. Shredded beef instead of ground. I like La Palapa Too! It has a really nice atmosphere and the actual restaurant is very cute; even the outdoor seating is great! It's an ideal place to eat in a group with friends or family. The waiters aren't too attentive, but they provide good service. The food and dessert, in my experience, is delicious. I usually get the Tacos al Pastor when I go and I've had their fried ice cream, which is absolutely yummy. The prices are average and the servings are big. I get full halfway through my meal! I went with a few of my old co-workers just to enjoy some catching up to do which was pleasant for it being the first time going to this place (for me). The music was great(subtle but good). Service was quick. Waiters/ Bartenders were attentive. (We sat at the bar) I had absolutely no complaints about this place. According to the my co-workers the drinks were enjoyable. *thumbs up* They go there often and always have a good experience. The bartender gave us chips and salsa which was excellent. Chips were tasty and salsa was not too hot but just right! I ordered the *New Mexican Salad w/ chicken which was fantastic. It took maybe 10 minutes for it to come out. I was super hungry so that was satisfying. The others ordered a chicken quesadilla and a ground beef quesadilla which came out perfect as well. This is really just an average, non-authentic Mexican place in a suburban strip mall. I'm not sure you'll have awful food, but it won't impress you either. Went there last night for the second time (more than a year between visits). Our waitress was very friendly and generally pretty attentive. I feel a bit bad about only giving it a 2 as a result. However, the food was just uninspired - rice was dry, salsa was quite mediocre, and the side salad was a waste of space. I was thinking that probably no one ever ate the salad, so they don't really put much effort into it. (Perhaps instead, no one eats it because they don't put much effort into it!) The decor was your standard Mexican - nothing too offensive, but definitely not interesting or pleasing either. The bathroom needs some work. The utility closet door was wide open when I went in, exposing the HVAC and maintenance items and supplies. Perhaps I'm being too critical, but that kind of conveyed to me that management just doesn't care about how the place looks. I don't think they have a lot of competition in the immediate area, so La Palapa Too doesn't need to work hard to fill seats. That also allows them to charge about $2-3 more per plate than they should be, even if the food were good. Don't think I'll be back if I'm the one choosing the restaurant. read more

When they came out they was sitting so long that the juices seeped through the tacos and the middle was falling apart. I suspect they were sitting too long because my nephew told us that his food was cold. I've been to many places like this in the area and when I saw how expensive it was I expected a higher quality. La Palapa Too is seated in a small strip mall-esque establishment off of Rt.29. It's a bit hard to find, but is close to the Verizon Wireless building on the side of the road--so there's your landmark. Just as a warning, parking is absolutely terrible here and you're going to be circling around the parking lot on Fridays and Saturdays looking for a spot. This is a tough review to write, as I've had experiences at this restaurant that would warrant a five star review, and then some that would warrant a one-star. Why? At La Palapa Too, it's all about the service, and sometimes, they just suck at it. Up until about a month ago, I was a regular at La Palapa--often going on Taco Tuesdays. We'd order a good amount of food and bring our hard earned money to this establishment. Unfortunately, we've had such a discrepancy with the servers, it got to the point where we didn't feel appreciated as customers--even though we were clearly recognized and greeted as such. Not to be gender biased, but most of the male waiters have attributed to this reputation of poor service. Each time we've gone to La Palapa Too and have had a male waiter (and from other reviews, I think they've had the same male waiter) we'd be ignored in favor of larger parties (I know this is a practice among wait staff) but really? Not even refilling my water once during the entire meal? Forgetting to bring out items? Having us wait 20 minutes to pay for our meal? This is not how you treat customers, let alone regulars. Food-wise, it's hit or miss. The guacamole is grand--and adds flavor to the at times dry meat. The salsa that's served with the tortilla chips is generic. This is pretty much your run-of-the-mill Mexican restaurant--although the Tortilla Soup is pretty good--but they often forget to put the avocado in--you know, which kind of MAKES the soup. However, a lot of their meals run together and they only offer unique stylings every once in a while--but the prices are off the wall. To be honest, I'd rather go to Chipotle than La Palapa Too--at least I wouldn't have to deal with their wait staff. Due to the inconsistencies with food quality, and the wait stuff, our money will be taken elsewhere. It really baffles me that the restaurant is practically begging people to review them on Yelp, yet they keep doing so many things wrong. read more

This place has absolutely by far the best taquitos I have ever had. They have a flaky soft tortilla wrap that is what sets them apart. Fantabulous! The other food is good too, but we often each just get an order of taquitos and a side of guacamole and we are good. I'd add a picture but it's all gone! Disappointed. Have gone here dozens of times and the food, service, and prices were very good. Tonight, we waited fifteen minutes while three different servers looked at us wondering if they should come to our table. No water , no chips and salsa, not even a "hey, someone will be there in a moment." Place was not packed, though busy. The other table was just getting thru drinks when the waiter came to take their orders. Sad when I recall the otherwise great experience there. One of my favorite Mexican restaurants. Service is awesome and waitresses are very nice. I mostly come for lunch once a week when I need to get away from work but so far, everything I have ordered has come out hot and tasty. My co worker and I enjoy the atmosphere and feel very welcomed when we come. Most of the folks there know our regular order and our names which makes us feel like we are VIPs. I would highly recommend this restaurant if you are in the area and looking for authentic Mexican food. Alejandra and Marlena are two of there very best waitresses you could ask for. So, as promised I tried tried the food! I can't believe this place has such low ratings. Not saying it's the best Mexican food I've ever had but it's definitely a good 3.5 stars (evened it out with my previous review) I ordered a pork dish in a tomato sauce which was a little spicy but good! The rice and beans on the side were also really good. The service I had was good as well. The drinks may taste a little watered down, I do agree with that. The outdoor seating is perfect, I love it. Okay food. Great ambience. Karla, the server, was very nice. She came over to our table but did not annoy us with the "How's the food?" "How are you doing" questions. This is not irrelevant to my review but every time the servers come by to check up on the food, I always have a mouthful of food or I'm biting into something. Very odd, but anyways, going back to the review. The food came out quick since we were here around 3-3:30 and it was fairly empty. I realize this is a difficult time for restaurants and we have supported La Palapa curbside pick-up since it was offered. It's has always been good but tonight the curbside failed on many levels. We called once we arrived and were told someone would be right out. We waited for 20 mins but no one brought our order to us so I went to the outside hostess desk and was told to go inside... really, the point of curbside is not to go in! The hostess kindly went inside to got our order, she was very nice and accommodating, thank you. Once home we could see everything was cold, maybe because it sat inside for 20+ mins... the chips were stale, the chili rellenos tasted as bad as it looked, the black beans were undercooked and the cilantro rice was extremely oily--usually this my favorite thing to order. The good news is the Cadillac Margaritas were as tasty as always! Just a little disappointed to spend $80.00 for a terrible dinner. We will try again in hopes they get back to treating curbside diners as well as those who eat at the Resturant. read more
