Finding solid tacos is a challenge. I decided to try La Parrilla with a co worker for lunch and boy were we positively surprised! The tacos were good, generously portioned (meat wise) and they had a great lunch deal. I ordered two tacos accompanied by rice and beans, and of course an agua de jamaica. A few months ago La Parrilla opened in suite that used to house a pizza joint a few doors down from 7-11. The old "Pizza" sign is actually still up. I was hesitant to try this place as there are quite a few sub-par fast food Mexican restaurants in the area, but La Parrilla has been great so far. Make sure you check out the menu handout as it is has much more than the in-store hanging display. I have only had the steak here, but its very flavorful. I tend to get burritos more than anything due to the sauce and grilled vegetables being delicious. I've recently been picking up the cilantro onion steak tacos on occasion. The fresh cut lime is great for tacos and the hot sauce is one of the best in the area as well. I prefer the red hot-sauce but combining the red and green actually creates an even better sauce IMO. I tried the Bistec A La Mexicana a few weeks back and that great as well. One of my coworkers tried the chicken enchilada dinner and said it was very good. A few others I work with like to pick up the tostadas as they are sizable, cheap, and tasty as well. Their chips are decent, but the salsa is excellent. The guy I always see in there must be the owner. He is very nice and helpful and even remembers my food preferences. The prices do seem slightly higher than the fast food Mexican places in the area, but the quality is worth it hands down. read more

When I first glanced at this place it looked like a carry out. However there is a restaurant with a small bar just off to the side. Actually it's quite spacious. We received water and the chips and salsa right away. The salsa tasted really fresh and had great flavor however to me it wasn't spicy but I was told it was. Everyone has different taste buds! A couple friends ordered drinks and they came out right away. They were traditional margaritas and what not. We placed our orders and within 10 minutes we had a full table of food. The tacos were excellent! I had a chicken tinga tostada and a habanero steak taco. The flavor was just out of this world! We also received the extra hot sauces on the side... um yes yes yes! They had great fresh flavors and brought the heat to the table! You can't see this place off the side of the road but it a well hidden gem! The prices are crazy low as well! Went here for the second time in one week this evening, and felt compelled to write them up. This is authentic Mexican, folks! Everything we have tasted is delicious. The burritos are large, fresh, and loaded with tons of ingredients. Tacos are served with cilantro & onion, with limes on the side. All tortillas look and taste incredibly fresh, and the guacamole is among some of the best I have ever had (may be a bit salty for some). When you order there, it takes about 15 minutes for them to prep your food, but you can see them cooking it and there are a few tables to sit at and wait. You can also eat in. Prices are incredibly low and light eaters could easily get two meals out of one order. It's a little tough to find, but trust me, it's worth it to drive to the little strip mall for this yummy Mexican! read more

I hate to be the first one to drag down the stars, but I'm going to. I walked in with three other people, there were two men in front of us ordering. I had looked at their online menu before arriving, but didn't see many of the same items and there was no mention of lunch specials on the board. I noticed some paper menus on the counter and as I reached for one, the customer in front of us informed me that I shouldn't go by that menu, a lot of the things on the menu aren't available, just go by the board. Why is the menu there then? It was a professionally printed board, not like a daily specials chalkboard. We had been waiting a few minutes and had still not ordered when a customer walked in, past our group and at least two others, right up to the counter - and she helped him first! We finally ordered, everything about the menu seemed very unclear and it was just difficult to order. It felt very hectic and the woman taking the orders kept running back to the kitchen for various reasons. My husband tried to ask about the specials, and she pointed to a piece of paper taped to the front of the register. There was no price and no explanation of what the items were. There are only four tables that will seat four people. Two were full with other customers, the other two were covered in dirty plates the whole time we waited to order and we ended up having to clear our own table in order to be able to sit down. The other dirty table remained that way until shortly before we left. It took at least 15 minutes for us to get our water, chips and salsa. At our table we had ordered 3 different burritos and 2 chicken tostadas. It was 20-25 minutes before the tostadas came, and it was a full 45-50 minutes before the last order arrived, a steak burrito. That is way too long. I had ordered the veggie burrito, based on a picture from the website, which included a salad, and was supposed to include a drink (which I didn't realize until afterwards when I looked at the website again). There was certainly no salad and if my drink was supposed to be included, I was not told that. There was also a lot of confusion when the food came out. The woman who brought it didn't speak english and when we asked her which burrito it was, she didn't know. She had to go back to the kitchen and send it with someone else. This also happened more than once. Additionally, this place does not seem to have A/C and was hotter inside than outside. I don't know, maybe they need to hire more people. If they're not going to offer what's on the website or the paper menus, they need to get rid of them. The food was alright, but definitely not worth the trouble or the time. read more

I'm usually not the type to write reviews, good or bad, but seeing as though I find myself at La Parrilla 2, maybe sometimes 3 times a week I figured what the heck.. This place is second to none. Not only are the owners extremely friendly and accommodating, but their food is authentic and delicious. Everything from their Al Pastor taco all the way down to the Shrimp Cocktail (if you haven't tried it, please do!) is killer. Being that I go so often I have tried just about everything they have to offer and not one dish did I think to myself "I'll probably never get that again". Previous to La Parilla opening their doors I was a huge fan of Los Burritos Tapatios. While Los Taps is fair, I can never look at it, or any similar Mexican restaurant the same again. I work across the street from this place, so I've been coming here since they've opened. My favorite thing to get is the Al Pastor. A lot of places I've been to do an alright al pastor, but this place actually does it right with grilled onions and grilled pineapple. This Gringo thinks it's muy bueno. The only thing that might have bothered people about this place is that they only had 4 or 5 tables and could get pretty crowded during lunch. As of last week however they've expanded into the store next door, giving them about a 500% increase in space. Problem solved. Most importantly (I'm presuming) the owner of this place is the guy on the grill. I presume this, because it's obvious great care is taken with the food being made by this man. Furthermore, I love to see the small businessperson with a great product succeed, so you should check this place out. read more

Tried for the first time this evening after reading some yelp reviews and looking for a new Mexican Restaurant in the area. We ordered the nacho's which we're ok. Nacho chips with a velveeta type cheese on top, for $9, I guess I was expecting a fancier type of nacho dish. The beef however and salsa were good, quite tasty. I ordered the Steak Burrito which was good, it was a no frills dish - you get a burrito on the plate and that's it. But it is a good sized burrito, I didn't leave hungry, but a side of beans or rice would have been a nice compliment to the dish. My wife ordered the steak tacos and was happy with her choice, her only comment was aside from steak and a little melted cheese, there wasn't much else in the taco, she said it was pretty plain, but again the steak tasted good. 2 tacos on the place, nothing else. It was a good experience and will probably try La Parrilla out again, no big complaints, just some minor desires on the plates. Service was quick and attentive - very friendly server. The restaurant was pretty empty when we arrived around 7pm, but as we left there were some people waiting for take out food and a couple tables filled up around us. Vegetarian Review: went here twice for lunch - initially skittish that they wouldn't have anything for me, but their paper menu lists vegetarian fajitas and a veggie torta. For the price, I'm fairly happy with this joint - the fajitas were a surprisingly large spread of veggies with several corn tortillas and a side plate of beans/rice/guac/sour cream/pico. Would definately get this again if I came in really hungry. I also tried the torta on a second visit, it's alright, but I'm not that much of a torta person. If I go there again, I'd probably ask if they could make a veggie burrito or possibly a half-order of the veggie fajitas. read more

Found this place on Yelp. Even though I live in Lisle, had never seen it or heard of it. Went there for lunch on the weekend. Being a Saturday, the place was rather quiet, but that didn't matter. The owners brother waited on us promptly and was VERY friendly. The ambiance was minimal, but that didn't matter. It was very clean. Our meals were excellent and for the price more than ample. Our meals for two were $20. Will definitely head back there for a good meal at a very reasonable price. Want to patronize local establishments. read more

So I've been back a bunch of times and lordy if the enchiladas dinner (I get the basic cheese) isn't delicious. Their sauces are amazing on it. I get half green sauce, and half red. Amazing. But, I opted for something different when dining in the restaurant and boy big mistake. I don't recall the name of it but it was a fried egg with something saucy and then something creepy underneath like tortilla but had the worst most awful texture and the flavor was barely palatable. I put a whole bunch of salt and hot sauce on it to make it go down. They apparently serve it all day, which to me says "people like it no matter the meal." I don't know who these people are or why they would serve this throughout the day. The other thing about actually eating in the restaurant is that it's got not an iota of charm. The tables are dark and dull. One thing that would be an easy fix would be to put some kind of glass with candle inside it - to give some lighting in the dark areas and also a bit of ambience. I've been back a few times since the egg incident because I really love the enchiladas. And the tacos. I had to downgrade for the egg and the lack of lighting. But really I still love this place. If I could give it a half a star I would to equal 3.5 stars rather than just the 3 stars. If they were to remove the egg from the menu, I'd bump it back up to 4 stars.
