We recently got a cabin in the area and I was excited to see if there's a Mexican restaurant within walking distance! When I went in, the owner was so nice and he gave me a rundown of the menu. I ordered the carnitas plate since it had the two things I always judge a Mexican restaurant by - carnitas and refied beans. The carnitas were tender and had no extra fat on them (which can be hard to achieve!). The beans and rice were great, and the pico de gallo didn't have a ton of tomatoes, but the cilantro and onions were a hand cut and very fresh. I took it to go and it also came with a bag of chips and both kinds of salsa so I could taste them. As the owner warned me, the green salsa was quite spicy, but very tasty. For such a small restaurant, they have a nice amount of tables there if you are eating in. The red salsa had more of a tomato paste base, and it also had some chilies and onion in it. All in all a great experience and I look forward to going back and trying new dishes! read more

Very good Mexican food had a burrito wet with green and red sauce. Good size and delicious. My girlfriend had enchiladas and a taco with rice and beans. She enjoyed hers tremendously. We walked in, small ish, but has outdoor seating and is very beautiful inside! The owners are extremely sweet and my order came out within 5 minutes!!! So very quick. Once we got our food, we dug in, and it tasted amazing. Food was just amazing, very authentic. Chips and Salsa, also, were very yummy. It felt like I was in my home town in Mexico. Overall a positive experience. I ordered the two tacos and two enchiladas combo and a wet shredded beef burrito. The shredded beef was very tender and the enchiladas were enjoyable. The shredded beef burrito was good as well. I liked to salsa they serve with their chips. The heat adds some oomph to otherwise mildly seasoned food. The atmosphere inside is very casual, smallish but appeared well kept and clean. The lady running the front was very cordial and my order was ready quickly. As a long time local of big bear (BBHS class of '08!) La Paws is hands down my favorite Mexican food place. They're quick, affordable, and consistently good. I often eat here for lunch or pick up a to go order when I'm too lazy to cook. They're great! read more

Of the six or seven Mexican restaurants now in Big Bear this is my least favorite. I've been here a couple of times and at first I thought my experience was a one off. I came here again and the same thing. The food is bland and mediocre, the enchiladas are some of the worst I've had in a while, hastily slopped red sauce heated halfway so the shreded cheese inside was not even melted. It looked like my shreded cheese at home in the refrigerator, like no heat was applied at all. It was a to go order and I had to cook it in a microwave. I've had better frozen Mexican food from Amy's cuisine at the supermarket. Seriously the quality control here is terribly. Overall the food is sub par, it offends my Hispanic heritage, the interior is rough and not asthetically pleasing, plus they close early all the time so skip this one and find a better location elsewhere. Looks can be deceiving... this place does look rough from the outside but inside it's clean & has an authentic feel. Good food & affordable prices. Their portion sizes have gone down a bit but the prices have stayed the same for years. I always get the chili verde burrito & it never disappoints! Moist tender meat & delicious sauce make this wet burrito perfect. Their salsa served with chips is the only drawback for me... it's not very good. Decent service. So I rate Mexican food on the salsa and chili rellenos. They were both good. The food and service were definitely better than the reviews I read on the site so I'll take that as tourists being overly picky. I was on a bike ride and wanted to eat. I ordered a chili relleno plate. It came out quickly. I liked the green salsa. The refried beans were excellent. I would go back to try the tacos. Just purchased a property in Big Bear City about a month ago & have been trying to find a good authentic Mexican spot in the area. Coming from Los Angeles where you can find good Mexican food on every corner, we were a bit disappointed up here, but we came across this little gem & we are in love!! The service is quick & very friendly & the food is fresh & delicious!! We've already been here twice now. Once for breakfast & once for lunch. We've had their breakfast burritos, pancakes, a green chili verde burrito & an asada burrito & everything was absolutely delicious! They serve chips & salsa when you dine in & it is so good as well! I highly recommend! We will definitely be going back ASAP! (And our 7 year old son requested we give them 5 stars too because our waitress was really nice & gave him a to-go cup for his drink =) read more

Not impressed. It was boring. I ordered taquitos with rice and beans. I have food allergies so I don't eat beans so I asked for rice only. It came with beans only. There were beans on the taquitos as well. They took it back only to bring out the same taquitos on a plate with rice. I had to send it back again. It came with just the taquitos and rice pooped onto a place. No garnish no sauce or cheese. No dollop of guacamole or sour cream. Not even a hint of Shreded lettuce. No green sauce of any kind. It was so bland and looked like the kitchen staff just didn't care one bit. As tho a food allergy and a misunderstanding by the wait staff was a huge inconvenience. I try to be clear about my allergies but there was a clear language barrier. I remember this place being so much better. I'm very let down by this last experience. So sad. read more

Terrible place: Do NOT go. The service was slow it was about 15 minutes before we got out chips and salsa and 5 more to order. The salsa served with the chips was unbelievably mild, it tasted like tomato sauce and had very little in the way of flavor. They didn't have limes in stock what kind of Mexican place doesn't have limes? I had the carne asada and it was so bland I could not finish it. The beans tasted like watered down Rosarito they poured directly out of a can. I decided to get something from Broadway Cafe across the street. Breakfast is not served past 11 and they stick to that. Unless this was the only restaurant open in Big Bear, I will not return. I might even be willing to wait 2 hours to drive down the mountain before I ever eat this bland food ever again, even Del Taco has better mexican than this place. read more

We ordered chicken taquitos. They gave us beef. Super dry. My bf got chili Colorado, the meat was old and tough, and the sauce was of gravy consistency. Super disappointed and gross. Was recommended my a local. Went tonight for the first time and it was disappointing. I had a Chile relleno there was no cheese in it and no flavor. My husband has a pork tamale no pork just Masa and sauceI also a Chicken taco wasn't bad. I'm writing this because of health code reasons. There were two people that worked there, the cook and the server. The server Reached in a bucket for chips with her bare hands, after rubbing her nose, using the cash register from prior customers. We also noticed chips and fries on the floor. For a small place with 6 tables and one other customer in there they should have cleaned that. We will not be going back any time soon. read more
