I loved getting my hair done once but I went here today. I'm unsure why but there's only 1 worker but she's taking walk ins? She could see I have a 1 year old baby and instead of letting me know when she'd be done with the 3 before me, she let me sit for over an hour and hadn't even finished 1 person's hair. Also they have a sign on the door that says you have to make an appointment yet they're also saying they can take walk ins. Don't recommend unless you wanna sit for 5 hours waiting for the ONE person doing hair to finish with at least 1 of the people ahead of you. Not sure what happened to the mom and daughter who do hair here but I won't be coming back. read more

Ok so beauty salons are are of my favorite places to review. I have mixed feelings about this one due to my last experience. I never let the staff know that I actually understand Spanish although I am not a fluent speaker. This time I caught the shampoo assistant telling the stylist that my "pelo es malo y largo" (my hair is bad and long). They definitely have a preference for 2/3 type hair but I have seen all types in the salon. I usually pay by digital method but this time I was forced to go across the street to the gas station ATM to pay in cash. Not really a good look. I was desperate... I had matted my hair after taking out my braids. When I say this place saved my hair it's not an exaggeration! Just look at the pictures. They didn't have to cut any of my hair... I came in September to get a wash & blow dry ONLY I loved it. I returned a couple months later and was told by the daughter that they dont provide that service and NEVER did. I showed them a picture of them doing it at THEIR establishment. She said that if she does it, it will be $100...(last time i paid $50 w/ a $10 tip) then proceeded to separate my hair aggressively. Got my natural hair deep conditioned and pressed here. I waited for a very long time which was fine since I didn't have an appt. However, the overall process took 4hrs! Additionally, only Perla is able to trim/ cut hair so I would have had to wait more time,even though I expressed that from the start. So I traveled over 30 minutes to see what the rave was about. When I entered the establishment I was hardly greeted. The energy and vibe was very cold. I had to say hi first just to get a half-ass greeting. The shop looked old and run down and the staff looked like they had better things to do which brings me to my next point. I have light brown hair that I wanted lifted to blonde. After critiquing my hair for about 5 minutes I was told that she couldn't do it in fear of damaging my hair. If you can't do hair just say that! While I appreciate her concern, it was clear they didn't want to tend to me from the time I walked in. La Perla is perfect solution if you are trying to transition from natural to straight hair... However, that is not my case!!!! I typically get my 4b/4c hair straightened 3 times a year. Unfortunately, after extensive reviews via yelp, Google and other outlets I found La Perla. I wish I hadn't. My once amazingly thick hair is damn near bone straight after several washes. The heat utilized at La Perla is extreme and I sincerely regret going. However, if you enjoy wearing your natural hair permanently straight, then La Perla is your place. read more

Spending your money at a place should count and as customers one should be serviced. I went to this salon to try it out as I'm new in the area, I will tell you I went in for the basic wash/blow. I got my hair washed and I did rollers like I typically do, as I saw how they did other client's hair I changed my mind quickly I decided they were not going to touch my hair beyond the rollers. Also, they need to improve their customer service; I get not doing every crazy thing a customer ask for cause it could damage their hair if it is colors, but someone wanting to get their hair blow dry from wet straight should be no issue that is of course if one can really do hair, I guess because they do not every one has to get rollers. I did not experience the being forced to get rollers or we won't serve you but another customer did as I was there. That helped me solidify the fact that after the dryer was done so was I. Im a Black woman. Have natural hair and a big head lol. My hair ranges from 3c-4c in any given spot on this head. Soooooooo I saw this on Yelp and rushed over to try this salon. Small and homely which is cool with me. Neither hair dressers speak much english so be prepared. Typical blowout is $40 which is crazy cheap to me. Took a while to be seen which is normal for a Friday evening. Wash, deep condition, rolled and under the dryer. Then blowed out which is a bit painful. Then the flat iron. Hair looked beautiful. But it rained soon as I left the salon and so I came back the next day for a trim and a little flatiron which was 15. I will be back. Good salon. So far a week out, still silky and straight, wanna go back for a little flatiron. Also, youre gonna have to oil your scalp because it will get very dry at home. Bonus, they know natural hair. Often times when you flat iron natural hair, it can be frizzy on the wnds and appear to be split when it actually isnt. They know this and didnt cut my hair until i requested. I did a lot of searching for any place that could cut or trim curly hair and I was very skeptical about this Dominican blow out as well but La Perla talked me through it! I tried this place out because it was closer to my house than my usual place on Bingle rd. The staff was okay and somewhat friendly besides the fact that they kept calling me an Americano, guessing I didn't understand Spanish. I grew up in Brooklyn and The Bronx and I am highly disappointed in this salon. I got there at 12:30 and didn't leave until 7:30, which I am accustomed to a few hours in the shop with the process but that was ridiculous for a blowout and trim, they were very slow. The wash girl completely soaked the whole back of my clothes and I mean soaking wet. Then when all said and done they charged me $110 because my hair is full and long. Not ever in my life have I ever paid this much for a blowout and trim at any kind of salon. I'm black with 3B grade hair which is a looser pattern than most Dominican Women's hair. I've never paid extra for the same services on the same course hair just as the salon styles, just because I'm not bald headed!!! So after being in the salon for a full day, I'm home not even an hour, I walk my dog and my ends and edges puff up. Long story short I will never go back to this place again. And yes I've had a blowout at a Dominican salon post covid, one in PA blowout and trim $60 and Bronx $75. Complete waste of an entire day and money. The salon is very run down which I don't mind a hole in the wall but the wash bowls were broken/ raggedy, they had old worn down equipment ie; flat irons, combs, brushes and no capes. If you're charging $110 per head then everything in the shop should be efficient and at least mid grade quality! Never again! read more

I feel compelled to update, because I see there has been an unflattering review. I like my hair bone straight. That's the way I prefer to wear my hair. I can understand, however, those who do not want that. With that said, La Perle does not straighten my hair bone straight. She doesn't want to. And she knows that while I want straight hair, I also don't want damaged hair. This is a woman who has done Afro American/Latina hair more years than I've been living probably (I'm her daughter's age). She will listen to your desires and do what you want. So I arrived at 12 noon and there was like 3 people ahead of me. They were also working on a little girls hair she was like 5 who was screaming and crying while they try to detangle her long thick hair. I spent about 2 hours waiting patiently and listening to the screaming and crying child. I know that they can't control that but it is not fair to the customers waiting who have to endure this while they wait and or get serviced. I was a little disappointed. Finally after an hour music was turned on which helped to cancel out the noise just a little bit. My hair came out good just was by happy about the wait. So I have 3c-4a soft hair texture. I love this place! You can't beat the price and the results. I am fully nature and I rarely get my hair straightened but when I do I get it done here and it last about a full 2 weeks. My mom has long beautiful course hair and her hair looks amazing. I went to this salon at about 6:15 on a Friday night. I have African American 4a & 4b type hair and had never gotten a Dominican blow out so I was pretty nervous but decided to give it a try. I don't think Pearla did my hair.. I think the other lady (Anna ?) did my blowout but the results were FANTASTIC ! The blow-dry process was slightly intense but I found the overall process to be quick ( 2 hours) and very effective as my hair has stayed straight in Houston 100 degree weather for the past 2 weeks. The price was very reasonable and she deep conditioned my hair ( no extra charge) and used a heat protectant which I thought was great.
