Blue neon arches, a huge underwater mural, plush chairs and low tables along the back wall. Worth the detour. Chris was working the bar on his second day and greeted us like a regular. I skipped my usual Manhattan and went with the Smoke Break, bourbon with bitters, smoke and black cherry. He nailed it. That is the one I would order again. Kudos to Chris for making the smoke linger and make the drink taste fantastic. I had this one in Oregon and it was cool but Chris did a better job with his method that really did serious justice to the name. My wife wanted the Cucumber Cooler, but they were out of cucumber. She pivoted to Sauvignon Blanc, and they were out of that too. The wine list runs four whites and four reds, so there is not much room to maneuver if the cocktails are not your thing. Chris read the situation, offered up a Paper Airplane since she wanted something refreshing, and put it on the house. Classic good bartending. It was louder than expected for how few people were in the room. On a Saturday with a DJ, music and dancing, I would guess the volume gets close to a rave. Go Tuesday or Wednesday if you want to hear the person across from you, and you will probably catch them fully stocked. My guess is weekends clean them out. Cocktails run 16 to 18 dollars. There is also a 300 dollar tequila and cognac number called La Maria served in a glass rimmed with gold dust, if you have something to celebrate. Happy hour is Tuesday through Friday, 3 to 5. They are on the ground floor of the Waymark apartments at 121 Pringle Ave with a small patio out front and heaters. Great spot to hang out and talk with friends, and a good pre dinner or post dinner stop rather than a destination for the whole night. When those doors shut you are transported somewhere neat. I would go again.

We have visited a number of times over the years. We sometimes make it a stop along the route between our home, and Walnut Creek, where we spend a fair amount of time, because, frankly, Walnut Creek's dining and entertainment scene beats the heck out of pretty much any other city in the East Bay - and is safer. So, The Fourth Bore is a worthy destination for good food and drinks. We've gotten the mushroom pizza every time we've been in, it's very good. The Fourth Bore is also a tap room, so great selection of beers, and unlike many beer places, this one also sports a full bar, with great cocktails. They have a nice patio with a fire pit, perfect for colder nights. The other night we asked for the fire to be put on for visuals, but it proved to emit way too much heat for an August night. In the winter, however, it's perfect. Grab a seat, settle in with some yummy pizza and a cocktail or beer of choice, and enjoy!

Plenty of espresso drinks, freshly brewed coffee with cheap refills, and a pastry case that always has something worth grabbing. The breakfast menu holds up too. Indoor seating if you want quiet, plus a big covered patio out back with string lights, wine barrel tables, and heaters for the colder months. The space itself is attractive, with festive music and a lively atmosphere. It looks and feels like it should be a fun place to eat. I started with a Pisco sour, which was okay. Then I ordered the pulpo a la parrilla. The octopus seemed practically raw when it arrived. I sent it back, and when it returned it was incredibly chewy and still inedible. I'm not sure if the chef was having an off night, but something was clearly wrong with the preparation. I switched to the Costillas de Chancho, BBQ pork spare ribs with mashed sweet potatoes. The plate arrived with the mashed sweet potatoes literally steaming, in a way that made them seem freshly microwaved. The waitress tried to explain that the steam was from frying the ribs, which didn't really make sense, especially since the steam was clearly coming from the potatoes. Why are BBQ ribs being fried anyway? The ribs were also extremely chewy, and the mashed sweet potatoes were bland with almost no seasoning. The waitress had specifically asked about allergies or food preferences, and I told her I didn't like onions. The replacement dish then arrived completely covered in onions. Why ask if you're going to ignore the answer? Service wasn't great either. I had to take silverware from another table because I wasn't given any, the waitress wasn't particularly attentive, and the hostess seemed like she didn't want to be there. Then, to top it all off, the check had a 3% "operations fee" added to it. I didn't see this disclosed anywhere beforehand. Adding an unexplained fee at the end of an already disappointing meal just left an even worse impression. Nice-looking space and festive atmosphere, but unfortunately that's about where the positives ended for me. Two poorly prepared dishes, inattentive service, and a surprise fee on the check. I had high expectations based on the reviews, but I would not come back.
