This is easily the best pizza in Lamorinda and it's not even close. Fantastic crust. Nice and thin with a very satisfying texture to the edge. Some people never eat that part, which is fine, but when I'm king you will go to prison for it. Back to the pizzeria. We were greeted very warmly by Tim and it was refreshingly obvious this was a family run establishment. Tim was very friendly to our family and the whole staff was attentive. Pizza came out super fast as a proper NY pizza should. If I had to find something that makes this not my favorite pizza in a 10 mile radius is probably the sause was a touch too sweet maybe? Or tangy, or something. Anyway. I'm gonna live with it as simply different. Knowing that they serve slices is going to become dangerous for me. We're gonna eat another pie next week. Came with my girls for the first time and loved their pizza we got lucky to walk in on a Wednesday and get the 2slice and I fountain drink special. All the staff were super friendly and very polite, service was great. Super kid friendly as they have coloring pages and crayons available to keep them busy. Coming back soon! read more

I honestly think this would have been a 5 star review but stuff happens . I ordered by phone when leaving my appointment in Oakland said 20 minutes perfect. I got there they were like deer in the headlights we dropped the ball if you want to wait we can make it in about 10 minutes. I wasn't happy but I went with it and said ok. In a few minutes they had it on and offered some garlic knots gratis I said great got the regular and spicy. They put them in the oven fresh. In the meantime I'm watching them knead and toss dough up close and personal. People coming in and ordering the slice or new customers all served quickly and with care . The pizza is actually amazing thin crust is crispy on the bottom and edges and a little chewy the sauce topp and pepperoni are excellent flavor and texture. 3 days in the fridge and the leftovers warm up great. read more

Oh my gosh, very delicious food I have pepperoni sausage the square pizza. I forgot what they call it but it was very delicious. The crust was light left the fresh ingredients the pepperoni the sausage and we also got the garlic knots we got two regular and two with jalapeño they were both delicious if you have not been here, please try it we live in Antioch. We actually went to Orinda for the smorgasbord and my husband wanted to try the pizzeria so we got the pizza for later that night and let me tell you it was so delicious and the staff are so very nice. Just stopped by on a whim for a slice of pizza. I don't have pizza often. I was greeted upon arrival from the young man making pizza. On display by the slice was a sausage/mushroom pie, cheese pie, pepperoni pie and the last was 8 Moose's take on a Hawaiian pizza. I ordered the sausage / mushroom and was quickly convinced to try the Hawaiian as well. I'm glad I did because bothered were pretty darn good. The crust is perfectly thin and crispy, the sauce is spot on and the toppings - well evwruthing was fresh and delicious. I would recommend 8 Moose for a slice or two or a whole pie. Pains me to write this bc this was my kids (and my) favorite pizza place for a while but the last time we went, the pizza had very little sauce or cheese (my kid said where's the cheese?) and it was so thin it was like chewing cardboard. I'm not sure if it was an off day or it was someone else making the pizza that day but we've had pizza here at least a few times a month before and it's almost always been so cheesy with lots of sauce and cheese (but still on the thin side with a good crust). Not only that, the price of a cheese pie went from $29 to $34.50, a steep increase. We were so disappointed it's kept us from returning. read more

I ask about creating your own slice & was told its best to call in for that & a pizza will be made for your particular slice. I had a really good experience here when I stopped by for a couple slices to go on a Saturday night. I was promptly greeted by the friendly young staff before checking out my options for slices. I ordered what looked like a Detroit style pepperoni slice and a regular sausage and mushroom slice. Both were solid! The slices aren't cheap, but all the ingredients they used, including the pepperoni, sausage, mushrooms, cheese, and tomato sauce all tasted like high quality to me. The crust was the star of the show though in my opinion. It took me a while to try out this place, but I'm glad I did. It's great to have a quality pizza-by-the-slice place here in Orinda. The only regret I had was not asking for a well-done or extra crispy bake on my slices. I'll be sure to do that next time. read more

I was working in Orinda, and we decided to try a newer spot called 8 Moose Pizzeria. They sell one size of pies and slices. We each ordered a vegetarian slice, and it was really tasty! They have the thinnest, crispiest sourdough crust I have ever tried. Yum! In addition to their pizza, they also offer pre-packaged, grab-and-go salads. The menu is intentionally limited at the moment; they plan to expand their offerings in the future. I got a container of that sauce for dipping, along with the ranch sauce. The garden salad was basic but solid, with fresh bites of cucumber. The staff was warm and friendly. It was a cold, rainy day, and they strove to make guests feel welcome. Before I get flamed, let me explain that I'm in NY/Long Island about once a year. To ape Dave Portnoy - zero flop on the carriage. Great sauce. The dough has a lovely bite. The sausage is blobs of bulk / not sliced sausage (like NYC). The Ceasar salad has a homemade dressing that uses real raw eggs and sardines. It's a real Ceasar salad! The pizza is delicious. The staff were kind, and I was able to chill there for a bit passing time watching some golf on the television. Highly recommend. However, I am a big fan of moose in general (the animals) and I never did figure out why it is called 8 Moose. I remain curious. Maybe I'll have to return to figure that out. read more
