Atmosphere and location is nice. For a 3 dollar sign restaurant I was kinda dissappinted that they brought out cold dry bread. When I left I saw that the bread was just out in the open and basically staling. I wanted the seafood pasta but I wanted it with red sauce and asked my server if the seafood pasta had red sauce. He said it has a little bit of red sauce. But when my order came out the only thing red was the tomatos in my dish, so didn't really get exactly what I want. Dish was still good but not what I asked for. My partner got ravioli and enjoyed it but portion was very small. Tonight after a long day of walking tours and sight seeing, we came here for a good dinner. La Piazza Ristorante was a great dining experience, as the entire staff made it lots of fun. Our server Lese made sure the dishes were delivered promptly, and the selections (you gotta try the Parmigiano reggiano spaghetti swish bowl, and the cuttlefish risotto) were delicious. I was anxious to try the hot pasta noodles being swirled around and melting inside a humungous wheel of Parm cheese. So tasty that it just makes you want to slap someone closeby in the face! Very good food! Excellent service, our waiter look many photos of us as we requested and even took a selfie with us. We ordered the fusilli with bacon and red chicory, pappardelle with pilgrim scallops and mushrooms, spaghetti with tomato sauce, and tagliatelle with salmon and vegetables. I would recommend any first timers to Venice to stop by La Piazza :) What I Recommend: Pappardelle with pilgrim scallops and mushrooms (7.5/10): The dish had fresh pasta and the scallops were very delicious. While San Marco is very touristy with lots of tourist traps including mediocre food, La Piazza has some great options! I wasn't a fan of the lobster pasta, but the Lasagna Bolognese and the mushroom ravioli were amazing! Definite highlights! I also LOVED our server and I wish I caught his name! He told us about a neighborhood in Venice that we fell in love with, but it's primarily locals, and I'm not naming it here (as it's the neighborhood where he lives). His service was impeccable, but more importantly, I loved his candid conversation about living in Venice and I wish I would have gotten his name because I'd love to hear more about his experience, so if you're the waiter and you read this, let me know! I'd also love to let him know if he ever visits California, he can count on me as a tour guide and an ally in a shared desire to keep Venetians in Venice! If there are nonprofits or organizations working on preserving Venezia for Venetians I'd love to work with them! Food = Average Service = Minimum Ambiance = More American than Italian I always research my restaurants before deciding to visit and as this one had great reviews, I booked. I'm not sure why the 4.2 stars. ??? This place is average, at best. You will see lots of people waiting outside, clamoring to get in; misled by generous reviews. We arrived in time for our reservation and were quickly led in. The morose looking server took our order and within minutes we had food on the table. Salmon - overcooked. Mezalluna pasta stuffed with cheese and mushrooms - I've had this dish before, it's just like the frozen mushroom ravioli from Trader Joe's. As we ate, the waitstaff busted out ye old Happy Birthday song, no less than four times - in English!! I don't think I would've minded so much if they sang it in Italian! At this point, I felt like I was at The Olive Garden. We did notice how quickly tables were turned and people just kept getting seated. So efficient, we thought, until it happened to us. No sooner did we complete the last bite of our meal, we were being handed the check and someone came by to take our payment. If you've been to enough restaurants in Italy, you know...no one is rushing. Peculiar, we thought. My husband had to excuse himself for a minute (using the servicio) and in that time, the manager or whomever he was came over to us offering to give us free ice cream. At first we didn't get it and thought he was just being so nice, but as soon as we got up, they turned the table and sat a part of 8 (as the table of four next to us was empty as well). So basically, he lured us away from the table because we were in the way of them seating this large party. So disrespectful! I don't think we were there even an hour. You could tell that they are just moving people in and out, churning people through. No real care or attention. It's like a feeding trough. There are so many better restaurants in Venice, better ambiance, better food, better service...find one! read more

The atmosphere and location is great. The ambience inside is enjoyable however the bread they brought out with butter was cold and dry, couldn't even finish half of it. My ravioli was nice and saucy, but the portions were really small. The spaghetti seafood was a bit plain, the seafood was fresh and good. House wine adequate but not nearly as good as smaller restaurants in same area. Bread dry and stale. First, the bad- it's a solid tourist option. Second, the good- it's a SOLID tourist option. Venice can be a hard place to find food in - it's Italy, so it's never that bad, and yet you often feel that many places here knowingly lower the quality for tourists. Well, the meal that we had at La Piazza was not the greatest meal ever. But it was definitely a good meal. Service was good, English was spoken, and there was a selection of dishes you come to expect at Venetian places. I was happy with the quality of the food and the ingredients, and don't feel ripped off when I left - which is something in Venice. Im not sure why this place has so many good reviews on Google- because it's so bad. I felt it was necessary to write this review because I was led astray by pretty decent looking options menu-wise and good dessert options combined with a hefty 4.7 on Google reviews (which is hard to come by in Venice apparently!) but man oh man prepare to be disappointed. The bread was tossed carelessly into a basket and when I looked over- i saw the bread all came from this super messy corner- in complete disarray. Theres no way its baked fresh. No way. It just looked like a gross little corner. Anyway- they served me a caesar salad with only purple lettuce and a bit of spinach- no romaine whatsoever even though I asked. And warm warm warm bland dressing. The calamari was tasteless- i had to ask for tabasco sauce just to make sure soemthing wasnt wrong with my tastebuds-(theyre still working right??? Yup. The food just tastes like nothing) The chicken is WEIRDLY soft. Like... think mcdonalds chicken nugget filling. Its... odd. I really think the health department needs to take a lil peep in the back here perhaps. They brought out tasteless spinach and plain carrots they boiled in plain water and threw onto a plate. It looked like dog food. The lasagna was the best thing and it only mildly tasted like anything whatsoever and was obviously microwaved and just slapped onto a plate in two seconds. And to top it off- they offer 8 desserts but we were told they "only have 2" .... 6 out of 8 are just... unavailable? 75 percent of your dessert is just nonexistent? What the hell? I dont know- i just thought that was completely ridiculous. Its a grimey place with a grimey tourist crowd which also has grimey bathrooms and tasteless disgusting food. Dont be fooled by the google reviews they obviously either pay or force people to leave at gun-point UPDATE- I just realized looking at the other lower reviews that YES they do in fact offer a discount on the bill to leave a positive review... and the other reviews appear to be BOTS!! Unfortunately, this is the definition of a tourist trap. I feel like the reason that they attract so much attention is because they take reservations online. Some of the other local restaurants don't, and I think it is to their disadvantage. The outdoor seating and the interior ambience are both well done. Therefore, the initial feeling when approaching the restaurant and being seated is that you might be in for a treat. Wrong. The bread cannot possibly be homemade, as it looks like it was taken right out of a mass-produced bag. We had the Greek salad which was underwhelming, given the fact that we are in a land where fresh produce is abundant. The spaghetti with Pomodoro is not homemade and literally no different from one that you can make at home by yourself. The steak is (for people who are from the US) no better than what you might get at an Outback. Very pedestrian. All in all, if you are just looking for a nice dining room feel, and are OK with a mediocre meal, this is passable. Otherwise, there are so many other better places in the neighborhood where you can dine and have a memorable Venetian experience. read more
