We went here because my wife wanted to try sandwich from triple D! I did not like my food as they loaded on the mayo I asked to not have on my sandwich. And, the amount of cheese was overwhelming and unappetizing in my opinion. My wife really like her sandwich but was disappointed how small it was. Until last week I hadn't been here in years and I forgot how good the food was. I ordered the country fried platter. I chose the chicken fried chicken with hash browns (which were cooked to perfection) 2 poached eggs and toast. The food came fast and service was great. I only took 1 star off because the iced tea was far too sweet for my taste. Don't get me wrong, I was born and raised in Slidell so I love me some sweet tea, but this was extra sweet. My husband and I stopped in last Friday night while we were in Slidell shopping. It was not crowded at all and is a "hole in the wall." The server was SO NICE! She knew all of the regulars that walked in and was just the sweetest! It was all you can eat catfish night, so we both got that. The portions were huge, so next time I would probably get the catfish plate instead. I don't usually get catfish in restaurants because I don't think they clean it well enough and it gets that dirty taste, but this catfish was excellent!! The coleslaw was good as well! Went to La. Pines for a late breakfast. Had the "Cajun Eggs Benedict". Two perfectly poached eggs over a very dense, bready crab less crab cake all nestled on a bed of barely cooked shredded potatoes. My wife had the "country skillet" which had the same soggy barely cooked potatoes. The place was very dirty and dingy overall. My family and i just ate brunch at la pines in slidell Louisiana. It was amazing. Our server carrie was sweet and had a lot of patience with us. We are a silly bunch and it is my daughters birthday. Made my fourth trip here and it was just as good as the last time . I ordered the No. 4 which included one egg , 3 pancakes and your choice of sausage ham and something else which I forgot . We were there this morning around 10 a.m. for breakfast. It was busy as usual on a Sunday morning but there were plenty of servers. I counted 8. After being directed to a table by a male server who was friendly, we waited quite a while for our server, Diane. My husband ordered coffee and all I wanted was water. After a few minutes she brought his coffee and 1 menu which she basically threw on the table. No water. She came back a while later and quickly dropped off another menu. By that time we had shared the one we had and were ready to order, but she took off. My husband again asked for my water. No response and no water. She finally came back and took our order... No water. My husband asked again. No response. In the meantime, we watched her start other tables.... They all got water. Our food came and it was good, as always. I've been a customer of LA Pines ever since I moved to Slidell in 1989. I refused to ask for water again!!!! Finally, she brought water for both of us and literally threw the straws on the table. We were shocked by her as the servers have always been wonderful! They do, however, have their favorites. The bill was dropped of quickly. She looked rushed and confused. Yes, it was busy but I also observed the other servers. They were busy, smiling and friendly to their customers. Another server ( young girl with short hair) actually brought my husband more coffee as she was checking on her tables. My husband finished his meal and I asked her for a go box as I just wanted to leave. I had just gotten off work and was ready to go home! She passed us several times ... No go box. I asked again. No response. Finally, after passing us a few more times she got me a box and again threw it on the table and I think I heard a "sorry". Now, I have lots of friends whose daughters are servers and I am a VERY good tipper as I know this makes up the majority of their pay. Usually 20%, often more. I tip based on service. Even mistakes don't make a difference to me. Rudeness does!!!! The only reason I gave 3 stars was for the food. I am always happy with that at LA Pines. This girl was rude, so here is a tip for Diane.... You might be in the wrong job! read more

Came here for breakfast one morning while visiting family in nearby Lacombe after seeing this place on Diners, Drive-Ins, and Dives. Had the prime rib omelette, which was good and smokey from the meat. Service was decent, which is the reason for the 4 star review. Definitely would recommend to anybody that's in the area! read more

Visited for the first time In about three years. Went for breakfast on Sunday morning as I was craving pancakes. Greeted with a smile by the hostess at the door but my waitress seemed a bit less enthusiastic about my presence. Quickly received a cup of coffee and placed my order. I was AMAZED at how fast it came out, especially given the crowd in the restaurant. The meal itself was typical "dive" fair. Nothing fancy or outstanding, almost institutional. But, I didn't order anything fancy, so it's what I expected. I enjoyed the meal but feel it may be another three years or so before I go back as it's just sorta "plain". Found this place on TV Food Maps. Guy Fieri stopped here and featured this diner on his show. I got a shrimp po'boy with onion rings. Staff was great, food was awesome but the tea was far from strong. It tasted like it's been sitting in ice and became watered down. Other than that I left full and happy. read more

This place is a nice little breakfast place for the family. The fam and I were visiting and on our last day we were looking for a place to get a decent breakfast but affordable as well. My wife yelped this place and based on the reviews we decided to explore it and I'm glad we did. The minute we walked in we were greeted with good mornings. When we sat down our waitress took our order right away and it came out pretty fast. I ordered the prime rib omelette, my wife ordered the shrimp omelette, my brother n law ordered the philly steak and cheese omelette and my other brother n law had the #3 with one egg. When everything came out it looked great but tasted even better. The biscuits is was caught our attention though. They were so soft and melted in your mouth. My brother n law and I had to order two more they were so good. I highly recommend this place for breakfast and make sure you double up on your biscuits. read more

We went down for a weekend trip and was told about this place. When we first drove up I was like wow it was packed at 730 am on a Sunday. Told the wife if it's this packed it should be good. I was wrong it was amazing wife had egg Benedict I had soft shell crabs egg Benedict and we shared a order of hash brown casserole. I would eat there every day if we stayed longer than we did. Was not impressed. My breakfast was below average. Not much taste in anything except for the home fries. I love a "Benedict" with fried chicken on a biscuit with gravy but this one was terrible. Usually you get a nice thick fried piece of chicken. This was I don't know what. A piece of chicken that had been beat down thin and cut into a circle and breaded and fried. So gross. My husband's crab Benedict wasn't much better, the crab cakes were thin and overly fried and the Benedict didn't come on an egg muffin. It was just the terrible crab cakes with the poached eggs and sauce. Definitely not coming back. Guy Fieri must've been here a loooong time ago. Side note: the carpet is disgusting. read more

Tried this for a "date night" with my husband. We ordered their now "signature sandwich" the Guy Fieri sandwich -- he visited this spot on his show "Dives Diners and Drive Ins". Decor looks a little "rinky dinky" and has the feel of tables with cheap table cloths made of plastic -- not a problem if you just want yummy, deliciousness of a sandwich (not attractive for a high end date night). Definitely a must try for the meat lover. The location is "nestled" on the main stretch of Robert, but you can't miss them, they're directly under the water tower! Service has gone down the drain and the price for food has gone up considerably. Waitress (Diane) was horrible not a newbie, she should know the menu after working at the location for more than a year. I ended up asking the staff for utensils and other items after asking the waitress more than once. One waitress couldn't handle 2 tables without loosing track of the tables. One of the few local breakfast place. A real hole in the wall. The servers could be friendlier but they seem friendly enough to the regulars. We had to wait a little bit to get attention and they were not even that busy. But the coffee was piping hot ( a plus ), food reasonably priced and seemed cooked fresh. We had basic breakfast of scrambled eggs, corned beef hash (delicious but corned beef probably the canned variety- i just can't resist trying it) and wheat toast but there seem to be a lot of choices, even sugar watchers' menu. Went for a late breakfast on Mothers Day. While the parking lot was packed, we put our name on the list and had a very short wait. The older man who put our name on the list was super friendly. We were shown to our table and given menus. It was our first time there. Apparently they only serve breakfast because my son was looking at the menu and the waitress closed it on his hands showed him the back and said 'breakfast'. We sat for a bit before she came over and took our drink orders. She brought our drinks and took our orders. All this was done without even a hint of a smile or pleasantness. At point point, a pleasant man came out and handed me some carnations and said Happy Mothers Day. So sweet! Our food arrived, she sat it down and left. Most of us needed a drink refill, but she did not come back. My husband tried to flag her down, but she did not come over. I got the feeling if we had asked for refills, it would have made her mad. I did see her chatting it up and hugging some customers, so o guess she has a friendly side if you know her. Once we were done eating, she did come back and asked if we needed refills. We did get those. Now, I will tell you that the food was good. Nothing extravagant, just honest good eggs and bacon sort of items. Tastes like you would have made them yourself. Good diner food. (Although it could have been a bit warmer when it was served) All in all, I would probably go back. The prices were so reasonable- 5 people ate for $45. The food was good. Found this place on our DDD app....drove out of our way on our trip to GA from TX to try it and glad we did. Had the smoked prime rib po-boy.....yum! The restaurant is quaint, but the staff is very friendly making you feel right at home. I got the French toast. It was melt in your mouth amazing! My child got a chocolate chip pancake. It came with homemade whipped cream on top. I couldn't believe how fluffy the pancake was. We will definitely eat here on our next trip to town. read more
