Love this place! We're not in Slidell too often, but we made it a point to swing by here again when we were in town! I've only ever had their breakfast here, but they do SUCH a great job, I'll have to come back for their lunches too It's a casual eatery that always seems to be fairly popular. Everything is very reasonably priced, so yummy, and their portions are generous. You'll go home full without completely emptying your wallet I highly recommend their "Poor Man's Benedict" ($10). It's SO good! It comes with their freshly baked biscuit topped with fried chicken and a poached egg, smothered in their homemade sausage gravy. The biscuit is soft, the eggs are perfect, their fried chicken is flavorful and well-seasoned, and the gravy is savory and just makes it feel like comfort food. You really can't miss out on their fried chicken. I know what you're thinking, fried chicken first thing in the morning? Trust me though, it's DELISH and you won't regret it! If you're really hungry, I suggest the "Chicken Fried Platter" ($13). It's very similar to the Benedict, but it comes with an extra side. We tried the hashbrowns and they were yum. Left after sitting at table for 25-35 minutes without service, so I can't speak to the food. Granted the place was very busy. After about 15 minutes, I walked to the waitress station and politely asked for a menu; the response was an eye roll with menus "shoved" at me in an aggravated manner. Regardless, I thanked her. Soon, the same young waitresscame over and took our drink orders (waters) nicely, but then she left the back room where we were seated and did not return! Whaa? I never saw her again, so we have it another 15 min and gave up. We looked for our angry waitress as we walked through to leave hoping she, or anyone, might notice we were leaving, but nothing. The restaurant was crowded and diners seemed happy enough so perhaps we simply got the wrong person in the wrong moments. My wife loves breakfast so I jumped on Yelp while we were in New Orleans and found this little gem. No it's not in New Orleans but we have to drive through Slidell to get home so I decided on La Pines. Guy Fieri ate there so that just solidified my decision! It's a small little place with maybe 8-10 tables. Don't let that discourage you though because the food is amazing! I had the bbq shrimp and grits. New Orleans bbq, not the bbq that you traditionally think of and it was amazing! One of the best shrimp and grits that I've had. My wife had a breakfast scramble bowl with hashbrowns, eggs, bacon and gravy. It was very good also. We also had a side of French toast that was covered in powdered sugar! We got a combo plate one sausage egg Benedict and one fried chicken eggs Benedict both are on their homemade grilled biscuits and they were FABULOUS!! The FRIED CHICKEN EGGS BENEDICT IS MUST ITS FABULOUS!!! I would definitely return to this hidden gem of a restaurant just for the Chicken Eggs Benedict it was that good. I should note tho both the sausage and the chicken eggs Benedict are served on their homemade grilled biscuits with the traditional southern white sausage gravy instead of hollandaise sauce which was a delicious touch and compliments the flavors. The crab cake eggs Benedict was served with the original hollandaise sauce and it was delicious... the crab cakes eggs Benedict is served over a layer of shredded hash-browns that I feel could have been cooked a little more crispy and the crab cake could have been cooked more crispy with less stuffing more crabmeat added especially since the crab cake and/or the hash-browns were serving as the English muffin part of traditional eggs Benedict. Don't get me wrong WE LOVE THIS PLACE .... It is a hidden gem and will be regulars. EVERYTHING was DELICIOUS!!!! Well worth the trip. Quite honestly the best breakfast I've ever eaten and the most friendly service. I ordered the signature platter that featured creamy eggs, delicious home potatoes, a buttery "grilled" biscuit and a corned beef hash that had me weak at the knees. I also enjoyed their fluffy homemade pancakes and blueberry preserves that had the perfect amount of sugar. After eating there, I now understand why Guy Fieri loves the place so much. 10/10 I would def eat here again! We were leaving New Orleans heading back home to Gulfport, MS, and my wife asked me to find a place along the route that was open . I saw La pines was open, so we stopped. The greeters were pleasant and the food was awesome. The French toast, the pancakes, the hash browns, bacon and ham. It was so good, we got 2 pork chops to go. Went here many years ago after seeing them on Triple D. The experience was awful and I never wanted to go back. Went again this weekend as a part of a group of 6. Service was not great and waitress was very slow. We were sat at a table that would have held 4 comfortably, but let's pack 6 people (1 had a cast on his arm) into this tiny space. Food was mediocre. All of the items that I tried would have been cooked better at a Waffle House. Definitely won't be back after this time. read more

Triple D never fails another great meal. I ordered the baked Mac and the prime rib po-boy. The Mac was cheesy and creamy. Now that po-boy was amazing. Got the Cali Benedict..maybe I'm just picky but it was pretty bland, one of the yolks wasn't runny..there could've been a little bit more hollandaise sauce and unless i lost my sense of taste, it wasn't lemony at all...disappointing:( On a positive note, the service wasn't bad and the Belgian waffle with peanut butter and chocolate chips was AMAZING!!! My family and I went to La Pines because we saw it on Food Network's Diners, Drive-ins, and Dives (DDD). As soon as we walked in we knew that we were in a cafe. It was clean, well lit, with plenty of seating! My daughter had the Patty Melt with fries, my wife had the Cuban sandwich with fries, and I had the Smoked Prime Rib sandwich (featured on the DDD episode) with onion rings. Our waitress was very attentive, seemed happy to serve us. This will be the third time that we have been to a restaurant that was featured on DDD and once again we were not disappointed. The smoked prime rib sandwich was one of the best sandwiches that I have ever eaten. We will most certainly be back. There are many more things on the menu that need to be tried! read more

This diner has a mural outside showing it was on Diners, Drive-ins, and Dives. They have daily specials. We arrived at 11:03 and were told breakfast ended at 11:00 so had to order off the lunch menu. We stopped in at this spot specifically because of the DDD show. We arrived 40 minutes before closing and ordered 2 sandwiches to go with macaroni and cheese. One of the sandwiches was the prime rib - noted that it was the one from the show. The food was disappointing. I am not sure what happened between the show date and the day we were there, but I cannot imagine that Guy ate the same food we did. The pasta for the mac n cheese was so large and the sauce was bland. The sandwiches were bland as well, not seeming to have the special touches we expected. It breaks my heart to say we ended up throwing it all away. The servers were friendly and welcoming, even though it was the end of their shift. We noticed that they continued to seat people, even if it was 2 minutes before closing and they made sure they ate - staying late to do so. After our swamp tour we drove around sleepy little Slidell to see what this town had to offer. It seems pleasant enough and it's definitely off the tourist grid. While we didn't find a ton to do in the rest of Slidell, we did spot this local hole-in-the-wall restaurant for lunch. There is a big banner outside the restaurant letting everyone know that Guy Fieri from the Food Network show Diners, Drive-Ins and Dives had been here for a taping. While I do enjoy watching that show on occasion, he seems to love every single thing he puts in his mouth so I'm not sure he's really the best judge. But nonetheless, we were game and looked forward to being somewhere not filled with tourists like us. Inside it seemed like most of the people were in fact locals and knew the waitresses. Our waitress, like nearly everyone I've found in Louisiana, was unfailingly polite and willing to explain anything that we Northerners needed to know. They're open for breakfast, lunch and dinner. It was buzzing with people and conversation when we arrived but we were able to get a table right away. On the lunch menu we found the tried and true Louisiana staples. There's an assortment of po'boys like oyster or shrimp, (dressed or undressed), crawfish dishes, good southern style red beans and rice, fried catfish, fried okra (a personal fave), and other local Lousiana dishes. The desserts on the menu which we didn't try due to the fullness factor, were things like "Mama Jim's Almost World Famous Fudge Pie with or without ice cream and Homemade Bread Pudding with Rum Sauce. I die for good bread pudding and while I was tempted, I just couldn't do it. They don't serve alcohol which was really a surprise since it seems to me alcohol is sold just about everywhere in Louisiana including in CVS. But our waitress did tell us that if we wanted to go down the road to "pick up some beer" they would be happy to serve it or anything else that tickled our fancy. We demurred on this although brown-bagging it might be a convenient option since nothing goes with a salty po'boy better than a beer, imho. Guy Fieri and his Food Network show aside, I thought the food was good but not outstanding. I was however happy to try a place off the beaten track that locals frequent. If you're in Slidell for a swamp tour or something else (although with all due respect, I'm still not sure what that something else would be), I do think you should pop in for a little something. I like supporting these local places especially with such welcoming, hardworking staff. So y'all get yourselves down to Slidell. A swamp tour and LA. Pines isn't a bad combo. read more
