My wife and I did a weekend getaway to New Orleans but stayed in a hotel in Slidell and had breakfast here. When we arrived, there was a wait which is usually a good sign because the food is probably very good. We only waited 15 minutes and once we got there, we received excellent service. The hostess, server and staff were extremely cordial and welcoming. I ordered the chicken fried steak and wife had the shrimp omelette. We were both pleased with our choices. Parking was a bit of a struggle but we managed to squeeze into a small spot out in a grassy area. Next time we're in town, we're definitely coming back. read more

First time eating here and I really like it! The service is definitely good too, very friendly! I had the mini seafood platter and everything was pretty tasty! On the seafood platter theres 1 crab cake, 3 fried oysters, 3 fried shrimp, 2 fried catfish, and 2 hushpuppies. I personally wasn't crazy about the hushpuppies but it was fine at least I know. We drove out of our way to visit this establishment because of Diners, Drive Ins and Dives fame. And boy are we glad that we did! It certainly fits the bill as a Dive, but the food was off the tracks!! The dining room is very small but we were easily seated. The server was engaging and quite attentive. She kept our drink glasses full. After reading Yelp reviews we ordered the Onion Rings as an appetizer. And what a site to behold!! They are huge and fresh cut/homemade. The onion rings are served with Roumelade that was perfectly spiced. It was steak night and one of our guests ordered ribeye that was tender enough to "cut with a fork". My husband ordered the Prime Rib and it was uniquely cooked by doing so on the smoker. For me the flavor was just a little too smoky for a delicious Rib but my husband loved it. It is indeed a unique method of preparation and I suspect delicious on their house specialty of Prime Rib Po'Boy. Small town dive on the Northshore. This place was made famous because of Triple D. My girlfriend and I went on New Year's Eve morning and were excited to try out some of the lunch dishes that Triple D made famous. We were not informed that they were limited to breakfast only because of the holiday?! Still determined we selected from the many eggs benedict choices on the breakfast menu. I ordered the traditional eggs benedict while my girlfriend ordered the Cajun benedict, eggs benedict on a crab cake served on a bed of hash browns. We figured that with such a prominent placement on the menu the eggs benedict would be on point. Sadly we were disappointed, the poached eggs were overcooked with only one yolk having a slight runny texture. The crab cake was more filler than crab and was an unappealing brown color. The hollandaise was lacking the needed acid to cut through the richness of the butter. The service was fine and friendly. The restaurant was divey, down to the bug zapper above my girlfriend's head, but the restaurant was clean. We were a bit surprised that the restaurant closed at noon on New Year's Eve, considering they normally close at 2 pm. The staff did seem to be in a hurry to get people out, repeatedly reminding a table behind us that they were closing at noon. This place is not a place I would go out of my way for breakfast, which it is a bit considering it is nearly 2 miles off the freeway. My boyfriend and I drove out of our way on a trip to New Orleans to visit this place. We'd seen the episode of DDD and were eager to check it out. We came on New Years Eve, which was clearly a mistake. La Pines was closing at noon and we arrived at eleven to find out that they were only serving breakfast - major bummer when you wanted to try the special from DDD that was a lunch sandwich. The breakfast menu was limited, but there were several eggs Benedict's on the menu and at prices that were far more reasonable than we'd seen in NOLA so we thought SCORE! We ordered one traditional and one cajun benedict as well as the hash brown casserole. We were told that they were out. Shame, but we settled with the benedict's. This place definitely put the Dive in Diners Drive ins and Dive's (there was a bug zapper on the wall over my head...) but we're no snobs and it didn't have the vibe of being dirty. All the wait staff seemed seasoned and the service was generally pleasant. Several folks came in and walked back out after hearing it was only breakfast - an option we weren't afforded until we had already sat down and been given menus and drinks. Anyway, the food came to the table and looked simple but pleasant enough. The cajun was meant to come on a crab cake which I originally thought was a mistake - it looked like it came on a sausage patty instead. We were each going to have one of the eggs on each plate and I began with the cajun. Not a sausage patty at all. I'm still unsure of how it got to be that color but it wasn't an appetizing look at all. There seemed to be a lot more filler than crab in the cake itself as well. The egg was the real problem, though. We make benedict at home for ourselves fairly often and I love nothing more than a runny yolk to spread out over my breakfast! Yum! One of our four eggs had a slightly gelled yolk. The rest were solid. We thought we were safe ordering the dish from a place that had so many on the menu but it seems not. Overall it wasn't a terrible lunch, especially for the price. I wouldn't recommend going out of your way to vista, though. read more

This place was awesome! I had no clue it was featured on TV but found out when I got there! I am a Vegan and so my breakfast was not on the menu but made up on the fly when I got there! It was one of the best tasting breakfast I have had in a long time at least out to eat! Perfectly seasoned and delicious! I want more now please! Stopped in for the first time on October 30th and immediately felt at home. Comfortable environment with a very friendly staff. You seat yourself here, but I was instantly greeted and my drink order taken. The daily specials all looked awesome, but I have been craving a Cuban Sandwich for a long time and it was on the menu so easy choice. Food came out in good time and was delicious. Great portion size without being overwhelming. The overwhelming part was the quality. All the ingredients were easily identifiable on the tongue. Easily one of the best I've had including my 19 years living in South Florida. I also substituted fries for the potato chips and that was a great call. I've visited this place often. I am a breakfast fan. They have great pancakes. The grits aren't watery, hash browns are some of the best around, and the biscuits are good. I've only ordered take-out. The staff seems friendly and I've seen people get seated right away. They are good about putting things like jelly, plastic ware, salt/pepper, ketchup, and napkins in the bag. I was at LaPines twice in a week. The first breakfast was the skillet breakfast. It was tasty and filling. Nothing super special, but certainly acceptable. In my prior visit the waitress said the Philly Cheese Steak Omelette was delicious and popular. So, on my second visit I thought I'd try it. What a horrible looking omelette; flat, weird color, just thin sitting naked on the plate. It tasted bland, looked bland and was a horrible breakfast. The waitress was a grandma type, no personality, other than asking for my order she had no personality at all. Seemed unhappy to be there. Not that she had to entertain me, I liked grandma types. TL;DR Waited an hour only for food to arrive cold and uncooked. We went here for Memorial Day breakfast a little after 10, so it was pretty busy. So I understand there was going to be a wait; however, I'm not okay with waiting an hour only to have my food arrive cold and uncooked. I got the egg breakfast with hash browns and a biscuit. Husband also got eggs and hash browns and we got an order of French toast to share. Like I said, we waited an hour. On its own, not good but not a dealbreaker on a busy morning. But the waitress didn't let us know the status even once during that hour. There were people walking around refilling the coffee so we didn't go without drink, but our waitress never stopped to check on us, before or after getting our food. So not impressed so far but it's not a lost cause yet. But then we got the food. All of the food was cold. Like literally cold to the touch, not just room temp. And the French toast wasn't cooked at all in the middle. I've had undercooked French toast before, but this was raw. I spit it out and stopped my husband from taking a bite, warning him not to eat any, that it was raw. The food wasn't bad honestly. The eggs were good, he liked his plate. I just wish it had been warm and the French toast cooked. But that combined with the lackluster service and long wait just didn't sit well, so we won't be back. read more

Great breakfast spot in Slidell. It was featured on Diners Drive-Ins and Dives. The place was packed at when I arrived on Saturday morning at 7:00am, but I was able to find a seat. I ordered the Poor Mans Benedict and it came out quickly. It comes with two poached eggs and a choice of chicken or sausage on top of a biscuit, then covered in their homemade gravy. It was very good! Coffee was good but I didn't get a refill until I was finished. O-well, no biggie, I survived. I will be going back to try other menu items. read more

I have eaten here 3 times before giving my review in order to be as fair as possible. This is definitely a hole in the wall type of place (but not in a good way) that could really use some updating and work on the building. The carpeted floors need to be replaced ASAP and the restaurant just seems to need a good cleaning and painting. What it lacks in decor is made up by the super friendly staff. These ladies and gentlemen are very attentive and seem to treat all guests like regulars. Now on to the food... I initially tried this restaurant because of the Triple D segment. The menu has a good variety of the usual food items such as poboys, burgers, seafood, and bean dishes. While I didn't notice anything unique the items I did eat were good. The key here is that for what you pay the food is well worth the price. Just don't expect to be blown away. Hence my 3 star rating when combining the conditions of the restaurant and the food quality. For example, the meatloaf is good but not great. The Lima beans are great. The cornbread is cornbread. Etc. Overall, the food is good enough that I will be back especially when I need a quick, satisfying, tasty meal when I am in the area. But it's not the place I would drive out of my way to visit. Excellent breakfast, best in area if you want tummy filling home made basics like pancakes, eggs, bacon, etc. Weekend breakfast parking can be a problem as it is very busy w/locals. Lunch also very good with a wide array of staples and sandwiches. Service always fast and friendly. If you want a uppity lo-cal meal with a fancy name keep driving, this place serves generous portions of real food, so if you want to eat, try it.
