    Grandma Pie
    Michael E.

It's been four years since I wrote my review for La Pizza and I'm happy to say that nothing has changed. Maybe the prices are a bit higher, but not noticeably so. The pizza is still some of the best in the area. Their Grandma Pie is really the star, but honestly, the pizza I order the most is just a plain slice. I don't know if there is higher praise for a pizza place than making a really good plain cheese pie. Having said that definitely try the Grandma Pie if you haven't. There are a lot of square Grandma Pies in the area, but the crust at La Pizza beats them all. If you're a meatball fan, those are also worth trying. I also have to give kudos to the guys that run this place. They're always in a good mood and they seem to know every customer, and they treat them like family. Just so you know I'm not getting paid for this, I will warn you that La Pizza is not the best restaurant for date night. It's a neighborhood pizza joint with formica booths left over from the 1970s (which actually adds some charm). In other words it's not a dining destination, but it is a place you can sit down and eat with a smile.

    Fantastic Sicilian and pepperoni slices!
    Kevin B.

This is the type of pizza joint that we need down in Tennessee since this place is great. I stopped in here a little while ago while traveling to my family in Pennsylvania and the pizza here really hit the spot. The Sicilian slice was perfect and I could eat several of those in a row. The pepperoni was also perfect and was just the right amount of greasy deliciousness. The workers here are really nice too and the place is just great. I highly recommend this restaurant for great pizza!

I've had them all but La Pizza is the best pizza in Northern NJ. If I could do 10 stars I would, but I'll settle for 5.

No complaints there. Service was... philosophical. The place was empty, yet it took a while to be noticed. The staff seemed deeply committed to important discussions with friends. Once I finally received my pizza, I stood by the door, hanging like a lonely pepperoni, waiting for someone to remember I existed. Apparently there's another register somewhere in the back. So I took a small pilgrimage through the restaurant, paid, and escaped with my dignity and my slice. They do have a seating area to the left. I didn't explore it. At that point, my relationship with the establishment had run its course. Would I go back? If I'm starving and the parking lot calls to me again... nah...

I ordered a large plain pie around 8:45 p.m. and picked it up at 9. When I got home, it was obviously an old pizza that had been reheated! It was cold, hard, stale, and not fresh at all. I called the store to let them know, but instead of apologizing or offering to make it right, the person on the phone argued with me and insisted it was freshly made. It clearly wasn't. The lack of accountability and customer service was disappointing. They close at 9:30, and if they didn't want to make a fresh pizza that late, they should've just said so because I would have gladly taken my business elsewhere. After this experience, I won't be coming back.

They were packed when we got there but we didn't have to wait long to get a seat. What we ordered: - Buffalo Wings - Mozzarella Sticks - French Fries - Regular Pizza - Regular Pizza with Pepperoni - White Clam Pizza - Old School Everything Pizza without Anchovies The food came out piping hot and everything we got was good. The wings were crispy and had a lot of sauce. We all enjoyed the pizzas even though bar style isn't our favorite. The only thing to note is my friend ordered a Blue Moon beer and never got it even though she even reminded them again. By the time the meal ended she was too full for a beer anyways. Honestly we don't even know if we got charged for it because we didn't examine the receipt before we paid by cash. Besides that everything went well and we would recommend this place.

Note that depending on the toppings you can order 2 different ones (half/half) but it's not available for all toppings. Pizza was tasty, I'd rate it a 8.5/10, I just wish it had a little more cheese. Garlic bread was also pretty good. I had 2 Coors light draft ($5.50 each) and my wife had a ginger ale ($3.00 and refill was free). They should offer some happy hour specials during weekdays. Service was good and waitresses were friendly. There are some tables and booths in addition to bar stools. There's a small parking lot so during peak hours you might need to find street parking.

***3 1/2 stars***…read more Maybe it lost something in transit or I didn't get the right pie, but I wasn't blown away by this place. I've had Tony D's on my list for a while, knowing it had a solid reputation amongst the North Jersey Italians (and what better demo to have it from?). Yesterday was a perfect opportunity to order/grab some pizza and bring it over to my top-tier chum in nearby Montclair for lunch. I didn't do a ton of recon so maybe there was a more obvious/modern method to ordering, but from what I could tell, this place was pretty old school and I just picked up the phone and called over - honestly can't remember the last time I did that, but it brought a nice whiff of nostalgia for me after years of ordering on apps. Didn't realize that Tony D's is literally right around the corner from my BFF Cloverleaf, so the location is pretty convenient if you're in the area. The parking in Caldwell can be pretty annoying, and even though I'm sure I could have rolled the dice I paid a little less than a dollar to park up the street further into a residential neighborhood. Given that Tony D's is exclusively delivery/pickup joint, I think they should pay for the spots right in front as a courtesy to their customers coming in and out; maybe they do and I missed it but if not... Anyway. The guy behind the counter was VERY nice/friendly, and even though I was a few minutes early based on the estimated ETA off my phone call, the pizza literally had just come out of the oven and was ready to rock. From that vantage point, top-notch service. The specific pie that seemed to be their go-to was the Drunken Grandma, which is usually one of my favorites (vodka sauce on pizza should be much more prevalent in my opinion) but I wasn't crazy about the chunks of tomato on it. In hindsight, would have been easy to pick off or even to request that they not be included to begin with, so that would be my recommendation based on this experience. I opted for a square plain pie, especially since I knew that a few young pups would likely be sampling the wares; seemed like an overall safe bet. Optics-wise, I thought it looked very good, and I don't regret going square here. The crust for me was probably the best part, and I made sure to strategically grab all of the corner pieces once we started eating. Nice crisp to it for sure. The overall taste of the pie just wasn't my thing. I wasn't crazy about the sauce (maybe another argument for the vodka sauce, right?) and the cheese was just okay. Tasted to me more like generic by the slice pizza, which isn't my preference. My top-tier chum liked it more than I did, so definitely could just be an issue with palate preference here but this might have suffered from inflated expectations. I'd give them another shot if a similar circumstance presented itself, but I'd go with the pie it's known for - there's a reason the Drunken Grandma is front and center in almost every review. Learn from me.

Joshua was very pleasant and the food was very hot! I ordered a large half sausage pizza with a side of fried mushrooms, which were both delicious. The pie had a nice thick crust, which is how I like it. I never eat the bottom crust, but break off the thick crust and scoop up the toppings. It was perfect! The fried mushrooms were tender with a very crispy & tasty coating. They were a nice size and there were plenty of them...even had some left over.
