La Placita Taco Grill in South Miami is a really underrated spot for some delicious, honest, authentic Mexican food. They specialize in traditional Mexican dishes and their tacos are top tier. Their birria tacos are my favorite. Super fresh and dripping with flavor. The service is great, they treat you like family. Portions are pretty generous too. Had the fish tacos. Great flavor, fresh fish and stuffed with so many different toppings. Wasn't a big fan that they were in flour tortillas. I should have asked for corn tortillas. Place is small and limited seating inside - also inside is not so ventilated so the frying oil smell is strong. Also taking away points for not using compostable serving containers and cutlery. Such a pleasant hidden gem in South Miami! It is located on the outskirts of Sunset Place, and has its own private parking lot. Although parking is small, it was not an issue to find a spot, and there is plenty of street parking around. Upon entering the establishment, we were immediately greeted! The staff was extremely helpful and welcoming. We were told the birria is the best on the menu so we got that, and an order of the 3 amigos taco order (1 al pastor, 1 steak, 1 chicken taco). In my opinion, the birria and al pastor were the best! The Al pastor was so flavorful and very loaded! What I definitely appreciated is that they put two tortilla per taco...so they didn't disassemble right away. The order is 3 tacos, and also comes with rice. From the service to the food, everything was incredible. We ordered chicken nachos and birria quesadilla. The nachos were loaded with melted, real cheese, beans, guacamole, and pico. Stopped by this small Taco spot in South Miami and was happy to find they had parking available which is rare in the South Miami area. The place itself is very small, and unfortunately, the seating isn't very comfortable. It was also pretty warm inside, which made it tough to enjoy the food on the spot. I ordered a few tacos, which were actually quite good. The ingredients were fresh and solid. I started eating there but ended up packing them up to finish at home, where it was much more comfortable. Really enjoyed this lovely little taco spot. People working were super friendly. I got 3 tacos al pastor-- I'm so incredibly picky with tacos, but they were good. I wish the meat was a bit more juicy. They gave me a ton of pineapple which I really really appreciated. The guacamole was fresh and delicious-- highly recommend. Jamaica was also bomb, but expensive for the size ($5 for a small cup). I looooooved the salsas. Overall I'd give this place a try again and maybe try some different meats next time. It's connected to a row of 3-4 restaurants with covered outdoor seating but we've never had an issue with weather. The food is consistently good - hefty portions and comes out relatively quickly. I've been on the hunt to find the best birria in Miami since graduating from college because my college town has some hard to beat birria. My group and I ordered the birria quesadillas and the birria tacos. To my surprise the birria quesadilla tasted better than the tacos. The tacos were good just a little too greasy. We also ordered some chips with guac and pico de gallo. I didn't think the chip to guac/ pico ratio made much sense as the guac container only had enough for like 5 chips to be dipped. The pico de gallo also tasted very strange, I'm not sure if the tomatoes were bad or not but it had a peculiar taste. The service was fine, for counter service, but the prices on our receipt differed from those on their video menu. I found it a bit pricey with most simple items around $25. My wife and I spent $39. This place has them all, and the owner Daniel, is one of the most charming owners I've encountered in a long time. We ordered the ribeye, the arrachera, and carnita tacos. They came out with red and green salsa and plenty of lime. Ribeye: the best of the best. Wow what a blast of flavor and the quality of the meat is the first thing you notice. Gourmet-ish but still authentic. They even put little pieces of potato in this one. So good and my fav. Carnitas: not greasy yet super juicy and flavorful (the owner came by and told us he does this by design). They were really top-notch. Lastly the arrachera: it was tender and reminds you of eating at a carne asada. This is what resembles the most classic carne asada steak taco but it was again above the average in the quality department. Overall I'm so glad I stopped by this place. I saw this place and knew I had to check out their tacos and the rest of their menu Wow was I pleasantly surprised! I ordered the Alambre Arracheria tacos. Which is grilled angus steak with bacon, grilled onions, bell peppers and melted cheese. I add pickled onions to them since I love them. The steak was super tender and juicy! They were served super hot off the grill with 3 juicy limes and red and green homemade hot sauces. The flavor of these were amazing! They were nicely filled with steak and were not skimpy at all! I was craving tacos, but when I spotted their burrito menu my heart skipped a beat. I love Al Pastor, so I got that in burrito form and it was SUCH a great choice for my life.
