A tiny restaurant that has seating at the counter where you can watch them make your tortas. It was a bit difficult to talk to friends sideways, but there is also seating outside. I love the Hawaiiana that I got. Very cheesy, just how I like it. There aren't that many pineapples though. More would be even better! Also got chips with queso. Free street parking!

This corner place with a nice view of Downtown has a simple yet super satisfying offering of great Mexican street style tortas and sides . We tried the Chorizo, the Merida, and the Hawaiian pork tortas, two quesadillas, and their unique fries with cotija cheese served with two house dips and salty greens. Delicious, well priced, and perfect for lunch. Especially if you seat outdoors. I will certainly make it back to try their street corn since they had ran out of it when we got there.

Got a pork taco and it was delicious! Quick and friendly service, what more can you ask for? Next time I'll have to try a torta - they look so good.

Yum...thats all I can say. We've been eyeing this place for a while now, and finally made it in on a Friday evening. When we walked in, all the indoor seats were taken, but luckily, by the time our food was ready, 2 opened up for us. If you plan on going at a busy time in the summer, be prepared to sit outside or potentially wait for a seat (there are only 6-8 bar seats indoors). It can be a bit confusing since half the menu is on the wall and half is in front of your on the counter but once you have it figured out, everything is smooth sailing. We ordered La Tejana Torta and the Barbacoa taco, along with the guacamole. Although everything was great, the guacamole is what really stood out. It is definitely not your run of the mill guac. I'm not sure what they do it it, but it was dreamy. The torta is massive! You don't need fries unless you are shareing it. The taco is on a small tortilla but is stuffed to the brim with meat. Between the three items, my wife and I left quite satisfied. I know I will be back to try that elote some time soon!

Wow, great stuff. Nice people, and the La Plancha torta with fries was very good. The street corn is top notch. Reasonably comfortable bar seating but I would love to sit outside when the weather cools down. I will definitely be back to try more options and I would like to do breakfast or brunch there next. Easy parking, great find!

Food is amazing, and this is my second time here. Ordered the chorizo torta and absolutely love it - very cheesy. Service is great as well, price is very reasonable. Will definitely come back again!

Expect more of a clean, slightly fancier Tex-Mex place with pricier items, and not the local, authentic hole in the wall with a lot of cheap options and big greasy portions. The tortas were good and were exactly as described on the menu. The bread was toasted yet fluffy and the guac had good flavor. I got the vegan burger, which had good texture but was light on the flavor. The chips were just okay and reminded me a bit of doritos. There's not much seating inside, but fortunately it was nice to sit outside today. I expected more for the price, but it came out to be okay. Overall, the experience was fine. I don't think I'll be back since I like more of the authentic vibes for Tex-Mex.

Yes, yes, yes. Highly recommend! Met my friend here for lunch and we were both pleasantly impressed with the food. It wasn't too far from UT campus - definitely should drive. There is a to-go window and you can order ahead. There is some seating outside and a little bar area with seating that overlooks the small kitchen. It is a family business and the staff were very sweet. The sandwich was my favorite and I would order it again in a heartbeat

Super friendly staff in this small but mighty restaurant!! Just some bar seating and outside patio seating, so we sat at the bar which had a great view of the grill. Some other reviewers said this place was expensive, and while the tacos ARE on the higher side, the tortas are GREAT value!! Their huge so you can easily cut them in half and take the other half for a later meal. The food overall was good: the queso was some of the BEST yellow queso I've had here in Austin! Yum! We got the carnitas taco (which had moist meat that was almost a tiny bit sweet) and the pambazo torta with chorizo and hash and avocado and much more! I would like to come back to try another torta without hash/potatoes because it slightly overwhelmed the meat. But the flavors were still great and they use farm fresh eggs cracked right there on the grill. Yum, a great lunch stop after the farmers market on a hot day

While visiting Austin for the weekend, my friends and I had lunch at La Plancha. We found street parking not too far away. The restaurant inside is quite small and doesn't have a bathroom. They have patio seating and there is a restroom just around the corner. I got the barbacoa tacos and carnitas tacos. The barbacoa was soo good and once I put the green sauce on, it just made it even better! The carnitas tacos was underwhelming and dry. The elote and the papas fritas were really good! We all enjoyed our food!

The food is good here. But there are a few things I noticed that brought down my rating. The place is popular and small. So parking is on the narrow street wherever you can find it. There are no tables inside the restaurant. There's some very limited seating inside at the counter if you can find a free bar stool (they only have about eight in total). There are only a couple of small tables outside. So you should be prepared when you come that ordering to go may be your only option. The food is a bit pricey for a tiny restaurant with mostly a sandwich menu. I mean, it's not crazy expensive or anything. But, for example, chips and salsa are free in lots of places. Here they're $6. And $15 isn't an outrageous price for a sandwich, but that's a la carte. It's a $19 sandwich if you want fries on the side. My wife had La Brunch Torta with a side is chips and salsa, and I had the brisket sandwich (La Torta) with a side of fries, and we each had one beer. We paid $65 including tax and tip. One guy seated at a table outside came back in and said, "Aren't we getting one more of these sandwiches? We ordered two, right?" The guy behind the counter looked up the order and said, "I have you down for one and I charged you for one." And the customer said, "But we paid $50!" Then he asked for a knife to cut his sandwich in half and share it. We enjoyed our sandwiches. And I usually don't go for crinkle cut fries but these were very good. My only problem with the food was the salsa verde. It may be great most days, because the ingredients seemed fresh and vibrant. But today, the kitchen had vastly over-salted the batch to the point that we could not enjoy it. $6 wasted there. All that said, if I were the owner, I would not reduce the prices here. It's a small place and it fills up. And Yelp just included them on a list of Top 100 Restaurants. Low supply + high demand = high prices. That's just economics. I applaud the owner for his concept, his execution, and his success. But that doesn't mean we plan to return anytime soon.

Had a quick dinner on Friday night. Real good food overall. The queso was nice with the right amount of spice. We ordered 2 tortas for the family the La Tejana and 3 little pigs. The La Tejana was a really good torta, the beans, creama, and shredded beef was soo good. The 2 little pigs was good but a little oily. You definitely need to consume the tortas there. They will not travel well with the oil. Overall good and fast with nice service. It was a hot summer day, there is limited room inside to beat the heat.

There are several salsa options, and drinks include Mexican Cokes and horchata, among others. We ended up getting two tacos (pastor and carne asada), a nopales quesadilla, and an order of chips and guac. There are some restaurants that need a review, and then there are restaurants like El Dorado, where…read morethe city has already rendered its verdict. At this point, El Dorado is an Austin favorite. People don't really debate whether it's good. They debate whether the wait is worth it, which is a very different conversation. So rather than adding another voice to the pile of praise, it seems more useful to talk about what people should actually expect when they go. First, yes, there may be a wait. This place is popular, and popular restaurants attract crowds. That's not a criticism; it's simply the reality. But it's also worth noting that many of the legendary wait times come from showing up exactly when everyone else does. If you can sneak in before or after the prime lunch and dinner rushes, the experience becomes much more manageable. Once you're seated, do yourself a favor and order the white queso. Better yet, if you're with family or friends, just get the sampler. It turns the beginning of the meal into an event rather than a formality. The white queso is every bit as good as people claim, but what surprised me even more was how seriously El Dorado takes its salsa. Most restaurants treat salsa as a free opening act before the main performance. Here, it feels like something carefully considered. Several varieties stood out, and more than one made me wonder why so many places settle for mediocre salsa when it can clearly be this good. As for the food itself, it's important to know what kind of restaurant you're walking into. If your idea of Austin Tex-Mex is fresh, light, bright, and vaguely health-conscious, you may need to adjust your expectations. El Dorado leans toward the heartier side of the spectrum. These are rich, deeply flavored dishes that feel rooted in tradition rather than trends. The portions are generous, the flavors are bold, and the meal has a certain gravitational pull to it. This is not food that politely taps you on the shoulder. It gives you a warm hug and then insists you have another bite. What impressed me most, oddly enough, were the beans and rice. Normally, they're supporting characters that exist simply because tradition demands they be present. At El Dorado, they seem to receive the same attention as everything else on the plate. It's a small detail, but great restaurants often reveal themselves through small details. The service deserves just as much praise as the food. During our visit, we interacted with several different staff members, and every one of them was friendly, attentive, and genuinely pleasant. There was none of the rushed indifference that sometimes sneaks into busy restaurants. Even better, management was actively moving through the dining room, checking on guests, talking with tables, and making sure people were enjoying themselves. It's the kind of thing that doesn't always get noticed when it's done well, but it absolutely contributes to why places like this develop loyal followings. The atmosphere itself is cheerful and comfortable. It's colorful without being flashy, lively without being chaotic. Nobody is going to leave talking about the interior design, but that's perfectly fine. The room accomplishes what it needs to accomplish: it feels welcoming and relaxed, allowing the food and the people to be the stars. As for negatives, there really aren't many. If you're looking for an elevated dining experience with dramatic plating, moody lighting, and a server who explains every ingredient as though introducing characters in a novel, this probably isn't your place. El Dorado seems far more interested in feeding people well than impressing them with presentation. And honestly, that's probably part of the reason Austin loves it so much. Go when you can avoid the biggest crowds. Order the queso. Explore the salsas. Don't overlook the beans and rice. Show up hungry. The food is hearty, the people are kind, and the restaurant knows exactly what it is. In a city where so many places are trying to become something, there's something refreshing about a place that already has.

THAT PLACE IS THE BEST". Located off Mopac and Anderson in North Central Austin, this beloved tex-mex restaurant is situated in a relatively aged shopping strip less than half a mile from the highway. Parking is ample and available so there should be no issues with access getting to the restaurant. Although easy to get to, it's a whole different story getting into the restaurant. First and foremost, they are closed on Sundays and Mondays. Secondly, they are so popular that you should almost always expect a wait. The pro move here is to book a reservation, but if you don't have one - anticipate waiting anywhere between 30 - 90 minutes in order to get in. Once in, you have the option to pick from a variety of tex-mex cuisine, including some local house specials such as the "crunchwrap supreme" which has an interesting backlore related to Taco Bell. Free chips and salsa (choose up to two salsas to try) land as soon as you arrive. El Dorado is known for its vegan tex-mex offerings so those with more particular diets will certainly be able to find something that works. The salsas are tasty. The serving portions are large. The flavors are good - there's really not too much to complain about once you're in and seated.
