Came here for the first time and I am very glad I did!! This place has some delicious food, I ordered a Torta de Al Pastor and tacos de Tripas along with an Horchata to drink. Just ate my first three tacos here. HOLY S**T!!! This pace is INCREDIBLE. A five finger slap of flavor to the face. I cannot begin to tell you how excited I am to have an authentic and delicious taqueria so close to me. This is the second time IN MY LIFE I've had this flavorful of tacos. The first was when I lived in Arizona and used GI walk to Mexico for lunch on the weekends. The fact that it's not greasy and heavy is a testament to the high quality meat and how it's prepared/marinated for a long time. You can't fake that, but many try to. There are 4 Mexican restaurants around here and They are bland. They try, but it's all Americanized garbage. This place is not ashamed to be authentic as it gets, and it shows. They are also willing accommodate any changes to the tacos you want without hesitation. WHY ARE YOU STULL READING THIS, get in your car and get the tacos your mouth deserves. read more

No bells and whistles, this is a simple taco stand with finger-licking good tacos. And you will be licking your fingers for real because these babes are the real deal. Not trendy, not Instagram beautiful. I had to keep reminding myself to slow down and chew instead of inhaling them whole :) I especially enjoyed the lengua taco, as always, that is my most favorite filling. At ordering, you will have a choice between soft and hard tacos. I do the soft ones as I find them to be easier to eat. The service is very upbeat and friendly. They seem to already have a great following in the neighborhood and since there are only a few seats inside and outside, you may need to wait or do a take-out. Either way, you will enjoy. read more

I'm not sure how late this place is open, but it reminds me of places I would go in college after a night out when I needed something quick and yummy in my tummy before going home. These are some seriously good tacos. It's a cozy place with not much room to sit, but that makes it all the more friendly. Everyone passes the sauces around, and the owner and workers are always smiling. I had a fish taco and a chorizo. Loved them both. The chorizo needed a little sour cream to cool it off... No problem! There are 2 new Taco spots in Highwood. Only 1 will be around in 3 years. La Plancha Loca isn't trying to be something it's not. It's a taco stand. The tacos and burritos are delicious. It's not overpriced. For what it is, it's absolutely perfect. I had a skirt steak burrito, guacamole and chips. Good quality, lean meat. Tasty. Indoor seating for a total of 15 people. Outdoor tables for when the weather is decent. read more

Really, really nasty. Placed an online pickup order and showed up 30 minutes later. They hadn't even started cooking the food, and it was not at all busy. I had to wait about 10 minutes until they finished. I bit into the fried shrimp taco and got something with the consistency of a rubber band. I thought for sure it was an uncooked shrimp. I pulled the specimen from my mouth and discovered it was apparently a piece of uncooked (bacon?) which isn't even in the ingredient list. WTAF? The frijoles were totally bland (and barely warm.) Also, the door was totally broken and impossible to open/close. This place needs serious work. read more

Me and my co worker drove by and saw this cute little taco shop with a cute little patio area outside. The place is very small but roomy enough to sit about 10 people. Seating is pretty tight but comfortable. I ordered the Archera taco which is basically a carne asada aka steak taco. Steak, cilantro and chopped onions. It was pretty decent, I would love to come back and try their fish taco, it looked really good. read more

Fantastic new taco place in north Highwood. This place just opened up this summer in the old hair salon. Have been waiting to give it a try, and was not disappointed! Staff is super friendly, and service is good. The seating area is small, but they have outside tables, and you can always go around the corner to the beer place and grab a drink with your food. Favorite by far the shrimp tacos a la plancha, soooo good. Teresa was good, but not fabulous and the other ones I've had have also been very tasty. This is our favorite place for tacos!! Everything is so delicious and so authentic. Friday-Sunday they have Birria tacos and you will crave it forever the second you try them. The service is great but prepare to wait for a little bit. It's a perfect place to go for pickup but even better in the summer when you can sit outside. Inside is pretty small but on the days when it's not busy you can sit inside. Enjoy it!! read more

After passing this place a dozen times, I decided to stop and expose myself to its magic. Now Tex-Mex is a well understood cuisine and we have established expectations. I tend to look for basic competency and friendly staff. This place is a nice environment to order a variety of tacos with black beans and rice. They were plated nicely for the eyes and the taste was above competency. Cmon out, order, sit outside and watch the world go by. read more

Some of the best tacos I've had in the area! This is a gem in the beautiful neighborhood of Highland Park. You know it's good eats when military service men and women come here on meal breaks. We ordered a variety of tacos and the Baja was hands down my favorite. I can't wait to go back and order more tacos. Their guacamole is fresh with a hint of lime. They deep fry their tortilla chips so they're nice and warm. Their tortillas are delicious and all of the food tastes fresh and authentic. Highly recommend checking this cute place out! read more

Was there today, early December and ate inside one of their cute green houses. Went back to the car to get blankets for us to sit on, the new requirement for Covid times, but it turned out we didn't need them for warmth, maybe more cushy seating. The green houses are cute and comfortable. Now to the most important aspect, the food. It's great. I love their tacos. Between us we had Asada, shrimp and fish tacos. The Shrimp Plancha With bacon were amazing. This is the fourth time I have had a meal there and each time and more and more impressed. Would've loved a cerveza But I understand they're working on a liquor license. I've had better chips with guacamole we had, but that's hardly a complaint. I do hope this small location, that reminds me of an old dairy queen, helps them have a small overhead and keeps them in business. And then when this Covid stuff is done, hopefully they can take this great food somewhere a bit larger,add a liquor license and share their talents with many more people. I hope you will help me keep them in business. Pack your blanket just in case one of the greenhouse isn't available... there are more picnic tables outside. read more

Wanted to love this place because we still haven't found a good taco joint anywhere in the northern suburbs. Unfortunately this place didn't deliver. We loved the skirt steak taco and the chips and salsa. Unfortunately the Al pastor was dried out and lacked flavor. Grilled fish taco was better than the fried fish taco, but neither stood out. Chorizo was not very good. Biggest downer was the use of store bought tortillas. read more

Holy cow. I heard about this place a few times and I had to try it. The tacos were freaking awesome. I got the Diablo taco along with a few others with the family and they were the best tacos I've had that I can remember. If you're in the Highland Park area and you're looking for some awesome tacos this is the place to go. This will probably become a weekly taco night for my family and I. read more

My wife ordered tacos on "TACO TUESDAY" and specifically mentioned that we wanted the $2 Tuesday special tacos. We ordered 20 tacos, beef, steak, chicken. When I went to pick it up it was over $125!?!?? I asked why and they told me that all of my tacos didn't qualify and we all full price. Are you kidding me?!? I felt so taken advantage of and discriminated against. I will never be back and my advice STAY AWAY! read more

I rode by on my bike, I drove by, literally dozens of times. One day, I just stopped... since then we have stopped again about 20 times. My father who affectionately has the nickname "Taco" from my toddler son... ALSO fully endorses it. The staff have been terrific, this roadside taco stand makes me smile. The quote that seals it, from my wife. "My favorite thing we have done in months was the day we got bags full of tacos and chips, and had a picnic at the Fort." I am obsessed with this place and their Steak torta. It's like heaven in my mouth. Wife yelled at me because I go there a lot and don't give other places a try. It reminds me of a place I used to eat at in the city when we used to go out for lunch in high school. A lounge with a wall of vinyl that you can select from and have the proprietor play for you is just a really cool idea and I'm amazed that more places don't offer this type of nostalgia. There is a tiny bar up at the front that the owner sells water, sodas (bottles and cans) and alcohol. There is a menu of drinks available that the owner can make for you or that he has available in bottles and cans. There is no food available, but you are allowed to bring in your own. There is a small private room to set up a table of food, place some tabletop games and listen to the music, host a meeting, have small gatherings or other type of event. They do offer different events in the main room and for the birthday I attended there; karaoke was then offered later that night. It seems there are some regulars who turn out for that so it's definitely a great neighborhood spot for regulars and newcomers alike. They also offer some board games and party games to make the your time there a lot more enjoyable with fun games, great music, and good vibes. I can't wait to visit again.

The shrimp with garlic was good, but the garlic was hard to taste because it was also covered or doused in a lot of tomato base or tomato sauce. I was really looking forward to a very clear buttery or olive oil sauce that was saturated with garlic. The mushrooms were OK as well, but again too much tomato in this dish that I'm not used to. The potatoes were also very tasty and well seasoned, and the sauce on it was just right. I think this is a good option for people who want top us in the suburbs however, I will say that I hope they do some tweaking to the recipes as well so that they have something that truly makes them stand out and unique.

Something like this can't happen every time, but for us when it happened it wasn't even that crowded. It was so weird, as was the reaction. Try the place at your own expense. Check out their to go stuff instead maybe.

From a nice greeting from the bar when you walk in to the server at your table, they make you feel right at home. The food is impeccable! At first we were not sure we would like it, but boy were we wrong! We started off with the duck polpetta - this small plate was absolutely fantastic and the sauce it came with had you scraping the plate for more. (Note though: the menu says THREE and we only received 2...) Our meals came with soup or salad and we each got a salad and soup - the salad dressing was out of this world. The minestrone was just okay. On to the entrees. My date ordered the salmon with a side of fettuccine Alfredo - this was cooked to perfection - so succulent and the seasoning was beautifully topped. I ordered the Veal Modenese - it was so flavorful I am still thinking about it the next day and how I could have it over and over again. Don't sleep on this place - make a reservation sooner then later, it's such a beautiful spot, if you like being taken back to the old time of Italian restaurants.

So we came here on a random Friday night to test our luck to get a table at 7 o'clock for two people. We got lucky and got to sit inside because that's where we wanted to sit although they do have sidewalk or outdoor seating as well. I thought sitting inside would be cooler, but I was wrong as all the doors and windows were open and I don't believe the AC was on at all. Well, the menu is pretty extensive. I will say that a vegetarian could definitely eat here as well as anyone else. This is our first visit here and as you can tell from the photos ordered quite a bit of food. And typical top of style the portions are pretty small, but they are meant to be shared. It was actually too much food for two people who were already hungry. Some of the standouts were definitely the meatballs and the salad salads. The jamon iberico was absolutely incredible. Not pictured was the picture of sangria we ordered. We got the rosé and to be quite honest with all of the heat. It actually watered down way too quickly. And it also came in a plastic picture, which was a bit of a turn off. The shrimp with garlic was good, but the garlic was hard to taste because it was also covered or doused in a lot of tomato base or tomato sauce. I was really looking forward to a very clear buttery or olive oil sauce that was saturated with garlic. The mushrooms were OK as well, but again too much tomato in this dish that I'm not used to. The potatoes were also very tasty and well seasoned, and the sauce on it was just right. I think this is a good option for people who want top us in the suburbs however, I will say that I hope they do some tweaking to the recipes as well so that they have something that truly makes them stand out and unique.

There's both a nice outdoor seating area in warmer months and really pretty dining room and bar. Our server, Jay, was great at answering questions about the menu. Everyone loved their selections. I had a special: Lake Superior whitefish in a light tomato-garlic cream sauce with spinach. It was absolutely delicious and wish it was a regular menu item! The pork chops were very nice, as was the salmon and chicken risotto special that the other folks got. We look forward to returning!

A lounge with a wall of vinyl that you can select from and have the proprietor play for you is just a really cool idea and I'm amazed that more places don't offer this type of nostalgia. There is a tiny bar up at the front that the owner sells water, sodas (bottles and cans) and alcohol. There is a menu of drinks available that the owner can make for you or that he has available in bottles and cans. There is no food available, but you are allowed to bring in your own. There is a small private room to set up a table of food, place some tabletop games and listen to the music, host a meeting, have small gatherings or other type of event. They do offer different events in the main room and for the birthday I attended there; karaoke was then offered later that night. It seems there are some regulars who turn out for that so it's definitely a great neighborhood spot for regulars and newcomers alike. They also offer some board games and party games to make the your time there a lot more enjoyable with fun games, great music, and good vibes. I can't wait to visit again.
