Love this restaurant. Tucked away a bit from some of the strand and pier plaza bustle but great location. We appreciate that there's plenty of bike parking right outside. The food and service is solid and we usually don't have to wait for a table. It's laid back and great for kids- if the kids get restless there's a park/grassy space right outside where we let them run around while we watch from the table. My gym friends love coming here after our Saturday workout. Restaurant is close to the beach so sometimes the parking is challenging especially since the nearby parking structure isn't available due to construction. But the food is top notch and so is the service. I love the chorizo and eggs which are the perfect blend of eggs and chorizo. One friend got the healthy breakfast which looked delicious with avocado. We love Mexican breakfast especially when visiting the beach haunts in SoCal! Came here for brunch with friends also visiting in town and it did not disappoint! We make it a date riding our e-bikes from Culver City up the bike path with the intent of a good meal at La Playita. 12 miles and well worth it. The enchiladas and chili renello are served with a red mole sauce that is so delish mixed with the rice. Just a beef or chicken taco with a side of rice and a Modelo Negra for me please... Our last visit someone forgot to order the air for the cokes and didn't have enough lemonade, so husband had water. Truly, we forgive them. 4+ small little café located a little north of the crazy busy area of Hermosa pier and a stones throw away from the beach. This place feels like it's been around for a very long time. Pretty straightforward menu that serves Mexican food along with breakfast choices. A group of friends came here for a late lunch after spending a few hours on the beach. Since it was a little later for lunchtime, the place wasn't that busy. We were able to get seated outside right away. I love breakfast, so I was glad to see that they serve a portion of the breakfast menu all day. I ordered the Miguel's breakfast enchiladas. Pretty much delicious enchiladas you would get at one of those homey/ family feel Mexican restaurants but instead of meatit was eggs and peppers inside. The salsa that they served with the chips was really good as well. We got a little extra to put on our food after the fact. The service was great and the prices were more than reasonable here. Definitely would come back. I actually almost prefer it to the places on the pier cause I like it a little less busy. But I'm not sure if it was less busy only because people might have been worried about going to the beach area right before the hurricane. read more

What a hell of a surprise when we stumbled on this place after our initial location had a 45 min the wait. I honestly don't know how this place is making it. The prices are just not matching the quality of the food, the views... the whole experience. No tourist trap here. Just good food, made well and comes out hot and fresh. Their salsa was fantastic (has some heat and great with their breakfast when paired. Got the omelet with pork verde with a side of black beans and rice and tortillas. I will come back here from now on when I want some nice beach breakfast going forward. My 3 must- haves for a good Mexican restaurant is good chips & spicy salsa, Good margs and then the food. I was underwhelmed on all points sadly. I know they are long-standing local business with lots of fans. The salsa had no flavor other than tomato. The margaritas had an odd flavor unlike any other I have had. I actually gave it to my husband to finish. I was excited to order the shrimp enchiladas and it had very little nuanced taste and spice. The black beans were good. My son said as soon as he saw steak on the menu at a Mexican restaurant that was a red flag. The steak used in this restaurant is the thin breakfast steak slices you see at market meat section, cheap one, the rice was dry and beans taste like can. This is a very authentic and charming place tucked away near the water so the ambience is excellent with plenty of outdoor seating. The menu is well varied and has options for everybody from breakfast to dinner and the food was delicious. The chips were homemade and the guacamole was near perfect plus the salsa was fresh and just spicy enough. I had the burrito combo, which was terrific. The shredded beef was well prepared not greasy and a very generous portion I might add. The service was attentive and very pleasant. The owner/mgr was friendly and welcoming. Hidden gem alert! Grew up in the South Bay and this place has been established since 1980?!!! How have I missed this ?!!! After strolling along HB pier, we wandered over for a nice lunch. It is literally located half a block from the beach. A small park is right in front of it, so there are no view obstructions! We sat out front with a gorgeous view of the beach. Plenty of indoor and rear outdoor seating as well. Great menu. We ordered the combo one item platter - shredded beef taco with rice and beans. $9.95 And Chicken tortilla soup, no cheese $6.00 with a side - carnitas taco $5.00 Loved the soup- light broth, tons of shredded chicken and avocado! This soup is so good and healthy and worth it. Carnitas taco fabulous! No skimp on meat. My mom enjoyed her combo plate- no leftovers lol Complimentary chips and salsa! From the moment we walked in we were greeted like long term friends, guest in a home. Exceptional customer service that wasn't forced nor was a delayed reaction. I live for a good hole in the wall and this place did not disappoint. The warm hospitality really set the tone for the service we would receive throughout or dining. Enrique was just such a delight. We were the first evening diners and he did not hover or rush us with our orders. He was funny and engaging when it came to speaking with us throughout our entire visit. I actually ended up visiting here because of word of mouth. I had a friend who also is a southbay local rave about margaritas here, affordability and great food. Well they infact uphold all of those. I opted for Caribbean rum punch and my partner went with a classic Cadillac Margarita. Each were full of flavor and light enough to compliment dinner and strong enough that after a few drinks you may jave to sit awhile. For food my original choice was the 2 combo plate with tamle and shredded beef. Unfortunately they were out of tamales so I doubled up on my tacos. The shredded beef was juicy and full of flavor. Seasoned to perfection and non fatty. My side of rice and beans was very generous and the tacos size was a fair size. My only sadness is tapatio hot sauce just isn't spicy enough for my liking but it complimented my meal . My partner opted for a shredded beef burrito and safe to say we both were using the chips to lap up the remaining mole burrito sauce. Everything was incredible. They are ada friendly, people friendly and serving up delicious food. Customer service definitely exceeded my expectations and I found my new favorite spot for quick bites in my neighborhood. read more

My date took me to this cute little gem for some Mexican cuisine and drinks, and I must say I had such a good experience here. The staff are not only friendly and attentive, but they kept joking with us which made it very entertaining. We also saw how they took care of large parties that were there to celebrate a couple birthdays in their group, and you could tell how everyone was so pleased with the service. The ambiance was really romantic since you get the view of the beach from where you're seated, without it feeling over the top even though it's a casual setting. I had the chicken tortilla soup and chicken quesadilla. Both were great, and huge portions which I didn't expect when I saw the considerably cheap prices. Otherwise I would've just stuck with the soup! It was an enjoyable experience for both my date and I, and I would highly recommend coming here if you're in Hermosa Beach. She named only one place and told me what to order. Now Martin. Phone was ringing menu were filling tables a un ratio may rapido para off hour dining and the man handled it all. The view from the patio itself was worth a cover charge. The fajitas sizzled and the burrito burritoed! My body was ready for anything after that even a 3.5 hours LA traffic journey to Anaheim Hills. Who leaves the beach in LA at 3 to hit the valley.....only some tourist headed home to AZ that's who. Would gladly battle that gridlock again to eat at La Playita and see our new friend Martin. This is a great Mexican spot right on the beach at Hermosa. it's a tad off from the pier but has sunset views. I'm SUPER picky about my Mexican restaurants (having grown up in San Diego) and this place does a great job with authentic dishes, but also some that have healthier options - but still maintain a great authentic flavors. The last time I was there, my friend and I went for the sunset. I got the veggie burrito (wet) and it was Huge! I wound up eating mostly just the filling and not the burrito (except for the ends - the best part IMHO). We also enjoyed the chips and salsa. So fresh with a bit of spiciness.
