I chose this spot for my birthday dinner, and was really excited to try this spot based on all the great reviews I saw here on Yelp. The ambiance was great and it was a really nice spot in front of the Pier. We sat outside since it was good weather, I didn't account for the afternoon chill though once the sunset. Good thing to keep in mind when choosing outside or inside. The inside was really pretty (saw this on my way to the restroom later) so I wish I would have chosen to sit inside. Now for the food, this was really the only let down. The guacamole and chips were started with was okay, slightly bland in flavor. I got the fish tacos, my husband got the Chipotle Pollo y Hongos (listed as a house specialty), got a taco and nacho plate for my kids off the kids menu. The rice was like a green rice, super bland and dry and this came on both of the adult plates. The red rice that came with the kids food was actually better. The refried beans tasted like something that came out of a can, dry as heck and again, bland. Fish tacos were meh, fish was fishy and the slaw it comes with did not have the flavor I am usually looking for when I think fish tacos. My husband's chicken was yummy, and I wished I had gotten that instead. Only con was the dry rice and beans it comes paired with. Maybe my biggest gripe was the food not tasting authentic at all, and this Mexican girl loves her Mexican food, or maybe I just got the wrong plates. In my experience, if the basics are wrong (rice and beans) the rest has little hope. However, I must say that Dessert was amazing, I got some kind of yummy ice cream (maybe the Helado Frito?) to blow out my birthday candle. It was the silver lining for sure :) Service was great, and they were very accommodating. Palmilla in Hermosa Beach is one of our go-to spots and my mother-in-law's favorite restaurant on the Hermosa Beach Pier. She's been coming here for years, and we end up visiting multiple times a year because it's always such a solid choice. We love sitting outside, people watching, and enjoying the pier atmosphere. The drinks are amazing, and we are definitely fans of the Big Zaddies. The handmade tortillas with butter and salsas are always a must, the enchiladas are so good, and the ceviche tastes fresh every time. Palmilla is always a win in our book. From the hand shaken fresh margaritas, I got the pineapple Serrano cilantro, to the complimentary fresh tortilla with honey butter and salsas, + the ocean breeze from the Pier, it's hard to complain. To share my table of 2 ordered the: * La asada con salsa (cooked medium) - comes with a side - we chose the corn - and rice and beans 10/10. I could drink the chimichurri sauce it came with and the meat was tender and cooked to perfection * mole blanco enchiladas - chicken Machacha, queso, chipotle pepitas, arroz de tomatillo and frijoles Nevro . 9.5/10 and I fear I will never want to have mole any other way. I also got a complimentary dessert of choice for my birthday. I opted for the fried ice cream (horchata flavored) which was divine and the perfect sweet treat to end the meal. The ambiance is lively, I recommend to sit outdoors as several other restaurants have live music and great to people watch. Service was good, they allow dogs on the patio. However, if you choose to sit outside, there are a lot of bugs flying around. They do give you the spinning machine but the bugs still come. I made a reservation for a party of 6 about a month in advance for a Friday at 11am. I don't think the reservation was necessary since they open at 11am and we were the first ones there anyway. We were seated on their outside patio out front. Our waiter was very friendly and patient with our party, I really appreciated his positive attitude. The fresh housemade tortilla were very good. If I wasn't in front of my in-laws, I would've asked for more and devoured it without hesitation. We shared an appetizer of Nachos with chimichurri filet and it was plenty to share between 6 people. I enjoyed my entree that I ordered, the crispy taco y enchilada. There was a generous amount of fresh cheese on the taco and the meat in both were perfectly seasoned. My watermelon cilantro margarita was good, but the chunks of watermelon kept getting stuck in the paper straw. I think next time, I'd get something without muddled fruit. Great service and a wonderful ambiance since it's right next to the beach. I would love to come back again to try other items. We found parking in a paid metered lot a couple minutes down the same street. Bathrooms are available inside the restaurant towards the back. read more

The service was fairly fast after we ordered, but I feel as if the waiters were checking in on us almost too much. I love how attentive the waiters were, but they checked in with us about 8 times LOL. Crispy Taco y Enchilada - I loved the flavor of the rib meat inside the crispy taco which had so much cheese and was pretty big. This was the best item I had at the restaurant. The enchilada was nothing special, but still great. Huge portion for about $23 on the Strand! Esperanza Burrito Especial - A pretty standard burrito. I got the steak, but you also have the option of chicken. There were beans, cheese, guac, and meat inside and it came with pico de gallo, sour cream, and rice. Satisfying dish, but there wasn't anything that stood out to me. I would get it again if I were craving a burrito and near the pier. Looking around at other tables, their portions seemed on the larger side so I tried to order with that in mind. I love a good fish taco & was excited to try theirs. It was good. Solid flavor, fish was good quality. I wished there was a bit more tang to it, maybe pico de gallo was lacking in flavor?! But I felt like there was something missing. Tacos were big! Their margaritas were good. Not very strong but solid. The table next to us ordered a huge mango margarita served in a humongous glass for the 5 of them to share. Looked really good & would definitely order that if I came with a big group or date night with a car service to ride home in!!! Hahaha! Ordered short rib taquitos, guacamole, and queso fundido. All very, very good. Short rib taquitos were especially good. For main course, had the Al Asada Salsa w/ Mexican elote and rice. We took my son for a late lunch at Palmilla Cocina and were thrilled to have the same server, Peter, who we had last time. He's so friendly and on top of things. I was trying to decide between the red or white sangria so he let me try a splash of each which I'm so glad he did because I LOVED the white sangria and ended up drinking two. It was another great meal and appreciated great service from Peter. I was at Hermosa with the family midweek and we were looking for a place to grab dinner. I wasn't very optimistic that we'd find great food so close to the pier. But it was clear Palmilla was popular as soon as we got there. Outdoor seating was full -- enjoying the evening weather and sunset -- and there was a small line. The host was able to accommodate our party of 6 despite the wait. The servers were all great. Fast, attentive, great attitude and service with a smile. The ambiance is perfect for a date night but also welcoming for families. Also good for a night out with friends. But the best part was the food. I'm always a fan of getting fish tacos when I'm in the South Bay and the fried halibut tacos are the best fish tacos I've ever had. I hesitate to speak with such hyperbole but they were quite incredible. First, the tortilla was soft and chewy with a nice flavor. Definitely felt like they made their own. The fish was crispy on the outside but had a nice chew inside -- cooked to perfection. And then the sauce and toppings were the perfect combo. I can't quite put my finger on it but superior to fish tacos I've had elsewhere. The first bite was as incredible as the last. And I haven't even talked about the tortilla appetizers with the honey butter. Complements to the owners and the chef for putting together such a great menu and keeping a high quality of food. Eating out is expensive these days and I often feel like it's not worth it and I'd rather cook at home. But this is a place that really made me feel like it was worth it and I definitely plan on coming back when I'm in town. read more

Had an amazing dinner at Palmilla Cocina Y Tequila this past sunday. Peter took great care of us from start to finish and made the whole experience feel welcoming and personal. We ordered the filet fajitas, mole blanco chicken enchiladas (must try!!), and fried ice cream for dessert everything was absolutely delicious. One thing we really appreciated was that Peter kindly split the enchiladas onto two plates for us without us even having to ask! Have never been to A Restaurant in Hermosa Beach. For a first visit I I loved this Restaurant. Starting with just walking up to the restaurant. There is a whole vibe. I guess we were on the Pier it was dark out. But, the area was electric in the best way. The young lady at the podium entrance greeted us with a big beautiful genuine smile. Told her we had guests inside she said go right in. We had a wonderful waitress her name was Stephanie. What made Stephanie wonderful was her great energy , kindness, attention to detail and she gave good honest recommendations on the food and she was very friendly. The food was really good. The alcoholic beverages were really good. ( not watered down ) . There was music that was not overwhelming. They give you a 2 hour limit on your table but if not crowded they don't stress you. A Dj comes in at about 10pm we were leaving by then ... but I must go back to check that out. The bathroom was clean, always a big deal for me. A little difficult to find parking on a Friday night but not awful. We were running late had to change our reservation and that was not a problem at all. They have inside, outside and bar seating. The food portions were a great size and price was pretty normal for this area 4 people, 4 meals, 6 alcoholic drinks $354 actually not bad. Have paid more for less. Palmilla Cocina , had good vibe, energy, food and service. Kept our table clean removed used dishes without having to ask.... always a plus. Again: attention to detail. The hostess bid us a good night and kindly and enthusiastically took pictures of us. No complaints. I recommend this restaurant and I am definitely going there again. read more
