I was originally planning on going to my favorite coffee shop, Courier Coffee, for breakfast. They didn't have any seating though so I wanted to just find something simple. I went on Google Maps and saw La Real. They had a 4.7 average review. I saw a breakfast burrito for $7.75 on their menu with hash browns. I was sold. I love hash browns and a cheap, simple breakfast burrito sounded perfect. Then when I get there I see, iirc, that it says $9 or something on their menu. Whatever. Then when I order I see that I'm charged $10.50 for the burrito plus another $1.00 for the chorizo. Nothing mentioned being charged extra for meat. Anyway, it's not that I think $11.50 for a breakfast burrito is unreasonable or anything, but there's something a little off-putting to me about being mislead. As for the food, I wasn't a fan. - The hash browns that I was excited for had no crisp at all. I was really craving the crisp, so that was disappointing. - The chorizo had a nice flavor, but in this burrito it was pretty overpowering. - In general it was extremely oily. - I also thought it was too salty. I tend to like a lot of salt, but this was too much for me. - It really could have used some sort of contrast. Like maybe some sauteed onions, or beans, or something acidic thrown in there. read more

I would give 3.5 stars because was not impressed with the food...more so the prices. I learned a lesson with what is considered birria here...birria tacos here is just juicy meat in a regular street taco form. And I took away a star because my coworker asked if the corn cups were fresh corn, which she was told they were - but it was definitely canned or frozen corn. I was really craving tacos and was in the neighborhood so I stopped in, first time here. My first impression was how good it smelled inside. There's large illuminated menu with photos of almost all the food options. My order contained a asada super burrito, a 3-taco plate (birria, steak, carnitas) and a chilled flan cake. The birria taco was freaking DELISH. Next time I'm getting all birria. The flan was also a tasty treat, it's placed atop chocolate cake and everything is moist and not too sweet. The salsa and condiments bar was a nice touch, some of the salsa is deathly spicy so choose at your own risk, non of them are labeled! I do wish there were more styles of beans besides just regular refried pinto. I will try their horchata next time and the "California style" burrito. Maybe also the "queso-tacos". Great menu, very patient and friendly hostess also, can't wait to return. read more

Came for the Torta Ahogada, but apparently it's only available at the Tigard location. If so, they should remove it off the menu. It's not an exaggeration to claim this is a top tier spot for Mexican food in Portland Metro. For starters, they have decent salsa and veggie accouterments bar. Their breakfast burrito includes a key ingredient: crispy potatoes (hash browns), not boiled cubed potatoes. It makes a big difference. I opted for brisket, but you can create it with any of their meats. The pork tamale had very good flavor, but it's small. Kinda resembled Yucatan-style tamales much more than those you'd find at a farmers market. The aqua frescas are only available in one size (not a fan of this no option), but both watermelon and melon were excellent. The pineapple tasted off. Friendly staff and they bring the food to your table. Solid spot. read more

My daughter turned me onto this place. We came in an hour before closing, so it wasn't very busy. They still serve the breakfast menu in the evening! My wife got a breakfast burrito and said she loved it. The chorizo was cooked in with the eggs and made it one. She said not too salty either. We were getting food to take to the airport rather than buy airport food. I got the three taco plate with Carnitas. Carnitas cooked expertly. They also have a lot of meat for each taco. Tortillas were also very good, but not sure if they were house made. My daughter got the burrito with Carne Asada and she said it was also a very tasty. She said no Fat or gristle... The refried beans and rice were also above average. The restaurant was clean but beyond everything else the cashier/waiter was really very helpful and kind. Could it be....I finally have the Mexican restaurant I've been searching for?! I went in today for a carry-out burrito - rarely do I get a burrito, but it's one of those days. Delicious. I got the express burrito - rice, beans, meat, cilantro onion and it was everything I wanted. Meat was well seasoned, good ratios with rice and beans, salsas were tasty, esp the hot one. Seemed like good quality ingredients. I'm excited to go back and try the tacos. This is all I've wanted. A basic but delicious taco place, with no hipster ingredients like cabbage, pickled everything, or cauliflower....just cilantro and onion with well seasoned meat and fresh ingredients. I think this is it, but can only truly tell once I have my tacos....will report back. Looks like they have happy hour and brunch, and lots of other items on the menu that I'm interested in. This place does the spot after a night out. Got here around 1:00AM before it started picking up. If we showed up 10-15 minutes later we probably would have waited longer. Walked in randomly as it was next to a sushi restaurant my family ate it that I did not like. The asada taco plate was delicious! The server was friendly and inviting. My food was prepared quickly and the potion sizes were perfect, not heaping and overloaded which can seem so wasteful. I took my order to go, but the ambiance while I waited was comfortable.
