Putting aside the service -- I've never had an issue in over a decade -- the quality of this bakery is just higher than others in the area. My family has been enjoying La Renaissance for years--first in Eastchester, then when they opened in Scarsdale and for a time when they were in both Scarsdale & Larchmont (still remember the mussels when they served dinner). If you want elegant, sophisticated and beyond delicious desserts from the highest quality ingredients, you've found your spot. We ordered a custom cake and were promised something VERY different from what was delivered. The cake cost $509.76 and when I complained, the owner told me I was being so rude over a cake. If you charge $500 for a cake, it should look beautiful. Please look at the pictures of the cake she provided for $500. On top of that, she berated me via text!!! I've been coming to La Renaissance for a while- just because White Plains doesn't have anything this quaint and French. I don't mind the 10 minute drive south of me- but it's so worth it. As soon as you go in, all you smell is sweet butter. No odd and old grease smell in the air here. La Renaissance is small, but they're packed with tons of Whole cakes, cakes by the slice and pastries. What brings me every time is their decadent Hot Cocoa. Never fails! It's delicious and really cocoaey- definitely puts Swiss Miss to shame! Design is simple with cute accents that make it pop like the metal Eiffel Tower by the entrance, a ceramic kind of old-fashioned plaque with La Renaissance's name and a wooden and straw-looking baguette holder against the wall. There's also a self-serve coffee caddy with cups, stirrers and your sugars, and 2 tables with chairs (I'm telling you, it's small). I absolutely dig La Renaissance, and definitely so worth it in flavor and quality for me. Coming out of White Plains zone for a good cup of hot cocoa and a pastry with a French touch, is ultimate for me. read more

They have some good stuffs BUT the quality is very inconsistent. One day you will have an amazing Lemon tart then the next day will just get soggy cookies, if you are those people who enjoys this kind of adventure then here is the place. We wanted a marzipan cake but the lady at the counter didn't know what marzipan was so she said they could make an almond birthday cake instead. What we got however, was a ordinary pound cake, dry and stale, with icing on top. Our guests took one bite of the cake and left the rest untouched. I called them the next day to tell her that the cake was an ordinary pound cake, not what we had special ordered. The lady was extremely rude and blamed me for placing the order in the first place. Recommend you stay away from them. There are other good bakeries in the area that don't swindle you. read more

HORRIBLE EXPERIENCE! La Renaissance Bakery I asked these people to make a custom cake for my daughter's Sweet 16. I showed them a picture of the inspiration cake and the owner agreed to make it for $509.76. I decided to do this for my daughter because she deserves it and she really loved this cake. What I got for $500+ was horrific and the owner told me I was making a fuss over a cake! She also told me "hurt people, hurt people" which is why I was being so mean to her about a cake. I informed her I was being honest about the poor craftsmanship of the cake because when someone spends $500 on a cake, they expect it to be stunning! Instead I got garbage! One of our guests thought the fondant elephant was feces on the cake and asked why we did that! To top it off, the cake was so dry and crumbly, we could not serve it! I asked for a refund and the woman refused to acknowledge there was anything wrong with the cake she provided. I think I agree with others that this place is a bit inconsistent. But I would say the majority of the time (like 80% of the time), they are absolutely stunning. I have had the best almond croissants in my life here. Their pastries are beautiful, flavorful, and so buttery and perfect. I've always had very nice, courteous, patient, friendly service. I'm definitely a fan of La Renaissance. It's a very unassuming European style bakery right in the middle of Scarsdale Village. I've tried a few of their pastries and most have been good (in particular the bread pudding) but some are nothing special (for example, the brioche). You just have to ask the guy at the counter for some advice and he'll tell you what's freshest and best. TThe best thing here in my opinion is definitely their baguette. Birthday Cake Fiasco, I few days ago my daughter purchased a birthday cake for my husband. She went to the La Renaissance Bakery, 9 Harcourt, Scarsdale, New York 10583. An upscale bakery specializing in French Patisserie. It was his 72th birthday and we wanted something extra special. The cake cost 50 dollars, but I figured it was a special occasion. When I served the cake to my guests the cake crust tasted stale the nuts smelled old and the mousse was terribly sour tasting. I was shocked. I told my guests not to eat it for fear they would get sick. The next day, I brought the cake back to the bakery and told the women in charge. She became very defensive, said I was crazy and claimed the cake was neither stale or old. There were no customers in the bakery and the show cases were pretty sparse. I know the Covid-19 situation has limited places from selling their products, but cakes should not be sold if they are old especially at those prices!! I expected her to be considerate and either refund or replace the cake. She was extremely disrespectful to me and started an argument. She then asked me to leave with the cake!! I gathered the slices together so she could see the cake was not eaten. I am writing this message to warn other customers about this place. Save your money and find another bakery. Terrible customer service! I went there yesterday 12/15/2O and purchased some pastries. An older woman with a foreign accent had a horrible attitude and she helped me. She tossed my pastries with arrogance in the bag like garbage. When I asked her to place them separately she had an attitude about it so I told "nevermind". I will never step foot in this bakery again when I can get better treatment elsewhere. I wanted a wonderful chocolate cake for my husband's birthday. I chose the chocolate mousse cake, hoping it would be wonderful. It was excellent! No other bakery in the area makes their chocolate as good as the one from this bakery. The woman in charge, a long-time, French-speaking employee, was exceptionally nice and understanding, because I had to twice postpone picking up the cake, because my daughter was ill with Covid. Fragrant inside the store, but boy is the staff unpleasant. Walked in this morning to purchase some pastries for breakfast, greeted the young woman with good morning and got nothing in return. We asked what one of the items had inside to which she responded in a very bored and monotone voice. While packing our croissants, from the hasty job she was doing (mind you there were no other customers) she dropped them on the floor. Since we obvious weren't paying for broken croissants we asked her to replace them but she had an attitude in doing so. Limited selection of pastries overall but they had all of the main types of croissants which looked really. However I don't think we'd come back because the staff is unfriendly and rude. Updated review from 4/2. Went to this bakery again because damnit, the croissants ARE good, but the same people work here and they are so rude! Makes it hard to patron this place honestly and I think that will be the last time. The two Latina women behind the counter were admonishing a customer ahead of me and incorrectly telling her the difference between latte and cappuccino to explain a (ridiculous) upcharge for her. They proceeded to not even greet me or smile (same as last time) and the younger one served up an attitude with the croissants I ordered. I've Yelped about one other business and that review was fabulous. This bakery on the other hand is unprofessional and is also a rip off. I ordered a cake for my mother's 82nd birthday last week and not only was the cake substandard to what I requested but then there was never a follow up when I called the bakery to tell them that they hadn't delivered what I asked for. When I called to place the order I spoke with women who I later found out was the baker. It took 15 minutes for her to clearly understand my request. In short it was their strawberry shortcake with added fruits (bananas and peaches) along with a layer of custard. Then she quoted me a price and it was almost $20 less than the cost of the cake at pickup time. The excuse provided was "she's the bakery and she really doesn't know the price that well". EIGHTEEN DOLLARS DIFFERENCE??? The person at the counter tried to accommodate the faux pas and took off $3 but it was still ridiculous. The cake was still $75 (for a 12" round)after that was applied and I was quoted $60! Had there been time I would've gone slayers but on Memorial Day there are limited options. After getting over that shock I decided to make the best of it. Well imagine my surprise when I cut into the cake and there were maybe a handful of banana and peach pieces throughout the entire cake with minimal strawberries as well!!! It was mostly whipped cream and on top of that there was NO CUSTARD! Really??? I call the bakery after the party and spoke with the same person I'd seen earlier. She promised to leave a message for the owner and said that she would give me a call in the following day. Needless to say there was no call. I will never go back to this bakery nor will i recommend it to anyone who wants to have a good experience. If theproduct is great then I never have a problem spending the money. This bakery is overpriced and under-delivers. I will start doing cake research for my mother's birthday next year. She is in the end stages of Alzheimer's disease and will hopefully she will still be with us. read more

I went into this establishment and ordered TWO things. One being some Crème brûlée and the other being maroons. The service was awful. Not only did they MESS UP THE ENTIRE ORDER- But they failed to inform me that there was 2 different types of Crème brûlée they had available and gave me whichever one THEY FELT like. WHICH IS DANGEROUS being that the person I ordered it for would of had a severe allergic reaction to the different kind that wasn't original. I asked for the flavors of the maroons, my question was ignored. I asked for the "tan- brown" maroons being that I wasn't sure which was which since no one answered my question and instead got PINK. After saying twice I wanted the tan brown ones. Along with this, the lady gave me 2 Crème brûlée's when I asked for ONE. They did not listen at all to my order. And when I went back to complain, they tried to play it off- HORRIBLE customer service. Good Crème brûlée though. Not worth the shitty service. - A disappointed foodie. read more
