I had been following Lulus Bake Shop on Instagram for a while but never got around to visiting--until I saw they were offering 25-cent cake slices! That was all the motivation I needed to make time for a stop in. It was two slices per customer, so I grabbed two coconut slices and my husband chose the carrot cake with salted caramel icing. OMG... the carrot cake was absolutely delicious. It was super moist with the perfect balance of spice and sweetness. The icing was the standout! My son picked out a black and white cookie decorated with a heart, which was just as cute as it was tasty. The glass cases were filled with beautifully decorated cakes in so many different flavors perfect if you're looking to order a custom cake for a special occasion. I always wanted to try this place but thought it was only for people who custom pre ordered and that you could not walk in and just grab something. Well walking by yesterday, I noticed a black and white cookie from outside and I figured let me see if I can buy it. I'm so happy I did, I also got a chocolate "Twinkie" and a birthday cake one. What we asked for vs what we got images are included.... I've been a loyal returning customer of this bakery because they've delivered beautiful, high quality cakes in the past. But this recent experience was incredibly disappointing. I placed a custom cake order inquired 72 hours in advance and placed 48 was assured they could deliver the design I requested -- Labubu. I even sent clear reference photos to avoid confusion. There was some back-and-forth conversation regarding the texture of the fur, and we were OK with it not looking as stringy, but it still was supposed to look like fur detail. What we received looked nothing like the character. It was so off that the kids at the party started calling it "La Fufu," (fake La Bubu) and my child was embarrassed in front of everyone. As a parent, that was heartbreaking to witness. When I reached out to share my honest feedback, the response I received only made things worse. It was defensive, filled with excuses, and completely lacked accountability. Rather than acknowledging the mistake or trying to make it right, they pushed the blame and made responding feel like a frustrating back and forth. It should not be that difficult to receive a respectful, constructive response especially from a business you've supported many many times in the past. Customer service, especially with a loyal returning customer, should be focused on retaining and repairing, not shutting the door. Even if they were under pressure or short on time, they made the choice to accept the order. With that comes the responsibility to either meet expectations or be upfront if they can't. This was a complete letdown not just because the cake didn't meet the mark, but because of the way I was treated afterward. If their black and white cookies are anything like their cakes, then their cakes must be delicious! I stopped in on a whim and was greeted by their black and white cookies immediately upon entering. I could not ignore them and took one to go. The cookies are more like mini cakes, with decadent frosting covering the bottom as well as the top. Upon first bite I was catapulted to heaven. TERRIBLE CUSTOMER SERVICE! Staff can't be bothered to assist or answer questions. They behave like it's a huge inconvenience that you want to give them business and sell cake. Do not understand why they are so popular -- cake is dry, dense, and flavorless. Buttercream reeks like it's gone bad. Like everything has gone stale. And don't get me started on food safety, they don't wear gloves or wash their hands when handling the cakes or desserts. They are in the top tier of Scarsdale and Westchester bakeries and cake companies such as nearby Renaissance, Martine's, and certainly of higher caliber than Riviera in Ardsley. Head and shoulders above Galloways as it is a totally different experience. Where this store fails and fails miserably is in attitude and customer service. I have hard this repeatedly from many other people. For that reason I will never again set foot in this business. Harsh? Maybe. Very disappointed! I found this bakery via Social Media (Instagram) and was so impressed by the craftsmanship and creativity of the cakes pictured. I decided to go ahead and order my daughter a Cinderella themed birthday cake for her 1st birthday. I provided multiple pictures for inspiration but ultimately left it up to the bakery to showcase their talent and create the cake as this is what I felt they do best ! Boy, was a wrong! I paid $450 for a cake that in my eyes did not resemble Cinderella (see pictures!) I had guests asking me where I got this eye sore of a cake because it was far from fitting the theme of her birthday. Price did NOT match the craftsmanship or creativity that is displayed via their website and social media. First in foremost, The taste of all of their bakery items is stupendous. They find a way to go that extra yard. By way of example, they take the traditional black-and-white cookie and find a way to make it extra thick and then have the frosting cover the sides almost like a small cake. also, The cookie also had somewhat of a consistency or like a cake then your traditional fairly dense black-and-white cookie that comes in cellophane wrapper. But then they have some items that you just don't find anyplace else. By way of example, they have a special twist on the Twinkie, Tastykake cupcakes, and the brownie/blondie. In one of my more indulgent phases, I ordered a tray of said blondies. Shortly thereafter, they stopped offering that and implemented a 2 tray minimum. probably better for everyone involve, except of course, my tailor who takes my pants in and out as the seasonal waves of indulgence ebb in and out. Now, there is really no place to sit, have a spot of tea, or congregate. No bathroom too. Designer herself is being impatient, the boss, I think , a little older white gentleman who insults customers in their understanding of the description displayed and raising his voice saying that "what do you want? Just a heads up: you need to order at least 2 or 3 weeks in advance because this place is always booked in advance. I used Lulu for both my wedding cake and groom's cake for my wedding in May. We had a 4-tier wedding cake with each tier a different flavor, and every tier was delicious. I'm originally from Texas, and I knew I wanted red velvet as a flavor. Lulu makes an incredibly delicious red velvet cake (which can be hard to find in New York!).
