I would give this place 4 stars! The selection of meat is huge, prime and you can taste the quality. Prices are higher then other quality Mexican meat markets. Produce price was a bit higher as well. Service was nice, workers smiled a d offered help. They sell prepared food before leaving its so tempting I'm def coming back to eat but I had purchased meat and paid a pretty penny or delicious penny in this case lol. Grilling season has started, albeit a bit cooler this year. We've been craving carne asada for a while and always eye the flap meat or flank steak at Costco and elsewhere. Finally, we were deliberating about where to go when it hit me. Our favorite taco shop, Tuxies, is part of the same building housing this carneceria and market, and it's always busy. Sure enough. The shared parking area was mostly full, and the takeout food area was busy inside. I still haven't tried or evaluated that aspect of the business yet, so my review is mostly on the meat and other goods purchased to date. The meat selection and obvious attention to health department standards is what impressed me immediately. If you want to see the antithesis of this, just go visit the meat department at Maxi Foods on University and Brockton. Anyhow, there was a daily special on prepardo, or pre-seasoned flap meat (it doesn't say carne asada explicitly). Reasonable price per pound ($9.99 I think), so we bought four pounds and divided it at home to freeze some for later. It's good. Really, really good! I was less impressed with the larger tortillas I got for burritos, but the corn tortillas are fresh and excellent. A couple days later we craved more and rather than thaw the meat in the freezer we chose to go fresh. It was a Sunday afternoon, and the selection was a little tapped out, except for the Prime grade flap meat for $11.99 per pound. Well, it's more expensive, but that marbled texture means noticeably moister and tender meat. All I can say is you can't go wrong choosing standard or Prime. As some point, I'll buy chicken and sausage to try, but until then, I'm fairly happy with the products overall. read more

This is usually our go to but lately I have been disappointed with there service. My husband went there today to buy marinated chicken but asked the butcher for non marinated chicken and to please freshly marinate it for him and apparently the butcher questioned him why he just didn't get the one that was already marinated. My husband just simply said because I don't want the one that's already marinated so the butcher weighed the chicken after he marinated it which he should know that he is supposed to weigh it before. the chicken that was marinated was the same price as the one that wasn't marinated so I don't understand the butcher's problem. I simply don't like already marinated meat or chicken because the marinated meat is the older meat that they haven't sold. I have always bought non marinated from there and then I ask them to freshly marinate it for me and they always weigh it before they marinate it. So we obviously paid more then what we got. read more

The market itself has a good selection for last minute dinner ingredients. I do love their hot foods for the menudo and burritos-haven't gotten anything else. I've always been treated kindly. To be honest, I haven't had the issue of the extra $$ salsas because I just eat the jalapeño they provide, but yes. I would agree with previous reviewers. Give the people what they want! I'm kinda sad they've changed. Food just isn't the same AND they are stingy AF. They won't give you enough salsa for the food you ordered. We ordered 2 taco dinners a burrito and two asada tacos and got one measly salsa after requesting more. A few days back, we ordered carnitas by the pound and they would not give us onion and cilantro or salsa and were rude about it. They lost loyal customers for sure.
