    Sells expired food

This store sells expired food. I bought this chorizo on 09/14/2025. Check out the expiration date. This is NOT the first time this has happened to me.

I would give this place 4 stars! The selection of meat is huge, prime and you can taste the quality. Prices are higher then other quality Mexican meat markets. Produce price was a bit higher as well. Service was nice, workers smiled a d offered help. They sell prepared food before leaving its so tempting I'm def coming back to eat but I had purchased meat and paid a pretty penny or delicious penny in this case lol. Parking is easy and lots of it, maybe time I went which was around 5 pm. They have lots of different seasoned buts, I love nuts so I was happy. They have little toys and a variety of items for sale, I would come back.

Grilling season has started, albeit a bit cooler this year. We've been craving carne asada for a while and always eye the flap meat or flank steak at Costco and elsewhere. Finally, we were deliberating about where to go when it hit me. Our favorite taco shop, Tuxies, is part of the same building housing this carneceria and market, and it's always busy. Sure enough. The shared parking area was mostly full, and the takeout food area was busy inside. I still haven't tried or evaluated that aspect of the business yet, so my review is mostly on the meat and other goods purchased to date. The meat selection and obvious attention to health department standards is what impressed me immediately. If you want to see the antithesis of this, just go visit the meat department at Maxi Foods on University and Brockton. Anyhow, there was a daily special on prepardo, or pre-seasoned flap meat (it doesn't say carne asada explicitly). Reasonable price per pound ($9.99 I think), so we bought four pounds and divided it at home to freeze some for later. It's good. Really, really good! I was less impressed with the larger tortillas I got for burritos, but the corn tortillas are fresh and excellent. A couple days later we craved more and rather than thaw the meat in the freezer we chose to go fresh. It was a Sunday afternoon, and the selection was a little tapped out, except for the Prime grade flap meat for $11.99 per pound. Well, it's more expensive, but that marbled texture means noticeably moister and tender meat. All I can say is you can't go wrong choosing standard or Prime. As some point, I'll buy chicken and sausage to try, but until then, I'm fairly happy with the products overall.

    Marinated Ranchera and marinated chicken

Went there for the ranchera and was very disappointed. Meat was good quality and good cut, but it was very, very salty. Their regular marinated chicken was also very salty. Chorizo and adobada chicken were very good.

    Compared to the sunglasses

The food portions have vote. Really small since the new ownership the flavor has been consistent how ever the young person attending the counter need to improve his interpersonal skills . I guess it might just be generational like the rest of these entitled new age workers!

Tasajo preparado. Great flavor. Grilled up nicely.

Great carnicería. Good quality meat. Reasonable prices. I got the tasajo preparada. Great flavor. This will be my new go to spot for carne Asada when I don't want to go my to regular spot which is in LA. I only bought 2 pounds to try out, just in case I didn't like it. But I did. It was delicious. They have different grades of meat and prices. The tasajo preparada was about $12 a pound.

First, I arrived shortly after they opened on a Tuesday, which is important to highlight because they're closed on Mondays, and I suspect one dish I tried had the texture of leftovers (from the weekend). Part of me wants to try again later in the week, and day to see if this was a fluke. What I ordered was a rice bowl with braised pork belly and daily vegetables. Everything was good except the pork was dry and tough, clearly not braised that day or heated all the way through. I forget what my first choice was, but it wasn't available that day. My other item was the wonton soup, which also disappointed me for a few reasons. Portion size is good, but the broth tasted really thin, watery, and the wontons were overcooked and falling apart. The cause was they were forgotten about and the pot boiled over. Generally, you cook these below the boil to prevent the cloudy mess from disintegrating skins. The filling tasted fine, but again, overall flavors and balance was marred. I did, however, enjoy the lenon tea that comes with every combination meal. And, the employees are very nice, but the food didn't make the cut. They have a big menu and I've seen the skewers and hot pots in action so I know there's potential.

I had a wonderful phone conversation with the owner Ben who personally took my order. We agreed upon a date and time two weeks out since I was going to be out of town for the 4th of July week. They called while I was out of town to confirm the date and time (between 10-11 am) which was great! When I arrived to the store with my son around 11:15 because of the heavy traffic on 91W I went to the counter and was told by a young female that I needed to go to the pay counter. She was curt and not helpful. There was only three people ahead of me so no problem. But the elder gentleman in front of me, who was being helped by the young man who would eventually help me, took an exceptionally long time with his order. I'm just here to pay and pick up. No problem, I'll be patient and keep waiting. Two other costumers are helped by the female counter person and finally the elder customer leaves with his order and I'm next. The young male counter person then waits for me to initiate the conversation and doesn't greet me with a smile or hello or how can I help. I brush it off. I tell him I'm here to pick up my order, a whole pig and give him my last name. He fumbles around a few seconds and then asks how to spell my name and eventually finds my ticket order and asks what time. The time is written at the top of the ticket he failed to notice. I pay for the order. He mutters someone will be out with my order and disappears. No thank you, no attentiveness like he gave the older gentleman in front of me. Again, I've been in my car with my son for over two hours from San Diego in traffic and this fella couldn't give me five minutes of courtesy. I'm waiting, and waiting and waiting while others eventually come into the store and are being helped and leaving. The older female worker at the pay counter is still there helping customers while the younger female at the deli counter is now apparently on a break and making herself lunch. She stops momentarily when a customer comes in for deli service. I'm still waiting by the counter to make sure I'm at least acknowledged but I don't see the young male counter worker who apparently left for lunch since it's now noon. The older female worker can probably see on my face that I'm not happy and says to me he's working on my order. He? Who's he? I am just here to pay and pick order between 10-11. How much time and trouble could it be to put this order together which was made two weeks prior? A different gentlemen finally arrives with three boxes and two large paper bags that comprise my order. On the way out the older female worker says goodbye and was very courteous. At this point I'm pretty upset because this is not a large haul and this order could've easily been second and not 45 minutes! I arrive home after the two hour drive back home to SD and looking forward to the meat, especially the sausages and putting it into the freezer which I cleared out in preparation for the meat. My older son is home to help. As we are sorting and placing the meat I notice that there are no sausages. It's just sausage meat but no links. I guess it's my fault for assuming and not specifying sausage links on at peat some of the order. It was a huge letdown. I had array went out to purchase rolls and buns for a bbq this weekend and to have friends and family over. Oh well. You live and you learn. At least the bacon was great.

My wife and I went on Valentine's weekend and it was absolutely PACKED. I waited close to 30 minutes... and yes, it was 100% worth it. We ordered 11 lbs of prime ranchera plus some chorizos and fed about 20 people in our family. Not a single complaint. The ranchera was tender, juicy, and seasoned perfectly. The chorizo had that bold, authentic flavor that elevates any carne asada. What really stood out though was the management that weekend. They were handing out flowers, chocolates, and even giving away their hats to customers. That level of generosity and appreciation during such a busy time says a lot about how they treat their community. It turned into one of those family gatherings where everyone's happy, plates are full, and nobody leaves hungry. Yes, they're busy. Yes, you'll probably wait. But quality like this? You wait. Definitely coming back for the next carne asada weekend.
