Sweet little family run place in Long Valley. Nice service and good food. We sat outside on a nice September evening. They quickly brought out homemade tortilla chips and tomatillo salsa and pico de gallo which were all good. I had the oxtail soup which was excellent. Two meaty oxtails in a large bowl with carrots, celery, yucca (I think) set in a broth with a slight tartness to it (could be enhanced with the provided lime slices). Totally different from the Asian styled oxtail soups we make at home. It was a complete meal. My wife had Pulike, a Guatemalan dish with pork and potato in a mild red sauce. Our son had Camarones al Tapatio which were about a half dozen shrimp surrounding a mound of seasoned rice with a slightly spicy red sauce. All were good, though the oxtail soup stood out. The restaurant is in a setting with a cluster of other restaurants --a Japanese restaurant and an inn. All in nice old buildings. At least two had outdoor seating. My wife remarked that it felt a bit like resort dining. I agree. The food and setting were good enough that we would definitely come back even though it is a distance from our home. read more

Love the flavor of the people who own it, their ethnic food, the attentive warm service, and the cozy authentic setting. I have never eaten outside but see so many enjoying a wonderful evening there, but my choice of inside is favored preferring the rustic home feel . I have been here for intimate gatherings as well as having larger parties for myself from 2- 15 people, they always strive to get it right and I enjoy the food as much as the experience. read more

Very disappointing eatery. I was looking forward to a nice meal and instead got a dose of microwaved enchiladas and stale chips. Bathrooms looked like the Mexican Army went thru there. Dishes were being washed behind the bar and the cooks and waitress looked like they haven't changed their shirts in a week. Dont waste your time or money. This place makes Taco Bell look like the Ritz Carlton . read more

The foods ok but nothing noteworthy. Kind of a quiet place that's usually empty or near empty when I show up. I'm glad it's in the neighborhood. Sometimes you just feel like eating Latin style grub. You know what I mean. read more

Had Nachos, guac and entrees. Everything was delish! I had a daiquiri that was a little weak but it's a margarita bar so not a big deal. Tacos were extremely salty- to the point that my salt obsessed kid couldn't eat them. Steak Burritos were excellent and the steak was tender and tasty! read more

Authenticity is one of the hardest thing to find in the culinary world, and when you find it, it is really special. La Rienda is authentic. This is an eclectic hidden gem! We had dinner on a very humid Saturday night. The restaurant was not hot but not cool either. We sat at the "bar" which felt like we were in some one's kitchen. THe staff is very friendly and the food was excellent. All fresh made, great flavor and large portions. We had the chicken enchiladas and the La Riendo Fajitas. We will be back! read more

The 3* rating is the average of what I would give this restaurant after my first two visits. The first visit was a definite 4* but unfortunately or return visit would only rate 2*. I plan to return one more time to see how well the service and food improves because I really want to like this place. On our first visit I would have rated La Rienda 4*. We had an inside table, the service was excellent, and the food terrific. I really like the interesting variety on the menu and the meats and vegetables in the molcajete bowl were excellent. On our second visit they opened an outdoor seating area. It was a great concept for beautiful nights, but I think the extra table area stressed the server and cook staff beyond their capacity to deliver an excellent product. Such a perfect place to go in Long Valley! It's located right by the Long Valley Pub! If you want authentic spanish food this is the place to go! They have delicious Sangria! I absolutely love everything they cook! The owner is also so nice! The staff and waitresses are very sweet too. It's always a pleasure to stop by! My wife and I tried this new restaurant based upon a friends recommendation. It's BYOB.. And the salsa chips and dipping sauce were fresh and tasty. ..as to food... We had the Nachos Supreme.. well plated, fresh and taste ingredients, would order again but without the meat. We also had the Fajitas La Rienda.. well portioned , served with house made corn tortillas...very tasty , well above average. The flan for dessert was rich and creamy.. worth a try for flan lovers. The menu is filled with dishes we will be trying at our next visit. Service...we were served by Kim. and Linda, They provided courteous and efficient service , and not overbearing. Knowledge of the menu was apparent, when asked a question. Location/Room ... Small Latin understated cozy room... Just right and fits the fare. As we were leaving Nery the owner , stopped by and we had a pleasant chat. Our overall experience was very positive and look forward to our next visit . At this time I will give it 31/2 stars, until we try other dishes. read more

If you are looking for fajitas or other Mexican food of the Chili's or Jose Tejas kind then this place isn't for you. The Chicken fajitas I had were no doubt authentic. The chicken tasted boiled and was not grilled or blackened at all. The tortillas were home made corn, as were the tortilla chips and salsa Verde and Pico de Gallo. The flautas were good but served with no cheese or sauce at all. The Buffalo calamari appetizer was good, nice and hot and went well with a Corona. I wasn't sure what to expect here and I would not go back, not because the food was bad, it just wasn't the Mexican food I have come to love at other places that are more Tex-Mex style. Update review: The Pulque stew is incredible. They also do a wicked crazy good Al Pastor. The Mole aint bad either.

I love the cozy atmosphere. Try the Pina Colada. The drink was very tasty and not overly sweet. Our waitress Sheyla was very friendly and accommodating. The food was delicious and came out fast and piping hot. The prices are very reasonable. Can't wait to go back!!! So nice to finally get some good food in Long Valley. read more

I go here all the time... i'm in love with there food. They know how to cook fish and shrimp perfect and their Molcajete is amazing! It's a small family owned business and you often get the owner's daughters waiting tables. They have a full bar with great Argentinian wines. read more

My fiancé and I were very excited to try la rienda. We ordered take out (beef tacos, veggie fajitas, guacamole and beef empanadas). After placing the order we were told 15-20 minutes. We live about 3 minutes from the restaurant. I was very pleased to walk in and see the food was ready. When I got home, we sat down to eat and we were very disappointed to find out our food was less than room temperature; more like cold. The rice and beans that accompanied our entrees were not even warm. The empanada was not warm and the beef tacos...the same. IF the food was hot it would have been a different review. It's understanding when ordering take out you may risk a little bit on temp but this food doesn't even seem like it was ever warm! And for the price we paid for the food, we were very underwhelmed and quite disappointed. read more

Excellent! Not just for the area but in general we thought it was great. My wife and I travel extensively to Mexico, Brazil and Panama, so we love it when we find great South American food nearby. AMAZING dinner. As usual. We had empanadas and guacamole to start. So good. I honestly dream about this guac. And I cant even begin to sing the praises about the tomatillo sauce. Crazy good. Tamales, enchiladas and carne de puerco were our choices for dinner. Again...amazing. The fresh margaritas are a must!!!! The food is so good. Every time. We love the food and the family. They are THE best neighbors. We are so lucky to have this treasure in our neighborhood. You should all be jealous. Our local place is better than your local place. ;-). Thanks, La Rienda. Was looking for something new in the area for dinner. Based on some other reviews, I checked out this place and was very pleasantly surprised. We were greeted by the owner and seated quickly on a holiday weekend. A generous Bowl of chips and salsa quickly appeared. I chose the Molcajente. This assorted collection of meats(including choritzo) came in a huge steaming hot pot with a delicious tomato based sauce. I had trouble finishing the whole dish. The side dish of rice and beans was small compared to the massive meal, but tasty. Too full to try any of the desserts, but we agreed to make this place a regular stop in our Chester area restaurant rotation. Definitely try it out. read more

Good Mexican and Spanish food. The staff is friendly and attentive. This is our go to Mexican restaurant in the area. Its not a super fancy restaurant, and not like you are eating in a kitchen but a nice atmosphere and a low key vibe. This was just okay for me. The service was good, however, so I don't want to knock them too much. The food came out a little too fast for my liking. It was also a little bland, except for the sirloin I got was soooo salty. I love the atmosphere of this restaurant, you felt almost like you were dining in your own home. I was told on the phone that you could not bring your own wine, but when we got there they all said it was fine. Luckily I had a bottle (or two!) in the car! I was a little disappointed that the check-in special wasn't applied to our check, but after asking her to do it and she didn't, I didn't want to argue. I don't think I'll be back. read more

I must have been at a totally different restaurant than all of these other reviewers. It seemed like no effort was put into the preparation at all. My husband described it as barely adequate. VERY GOOD, must try Mexican place. Went for dinner yesterday. I had the beef chimichnga which was excellent not over fried and oily. Clean, fresh and very satisfying. My daughter had the Shrimp and Avocado with clam sauce, rice, beans and a side of tortillas which was outstanding. The tortillas are fresh made from a great tasting Masa. Service was good and the prices were a little on the high side but fair. If you like Mexican it is a must try. read more

Been going there for about an year now as a recommendation from some co-workers. The service varies - one night it will be great, on another - not so much. The joint is family ran, most of the workers are related and it makes for a true family business. The owner is around all the time and stops to chat with the patrons every so often, makes for a nice impression. Location and decor - The place is little, located on the first floor of an old house right across the lot from the Brew Pub. Parking is tricky, I would suggest parking in the big parking lot above the Brew Pub and walking down rather than trying to cramp in the small lot by La Rienda. The outside is nothing spectacular, the house has no tell-tell signs of the place being there except a small side on the side. Food and drinks - absolutely fabulous. Push everything else aside, this is a pretty good place to eat. The margaritas and mojitos are superb, steak fajitas are a must and the guacamole is pretty good too. All in all a great place to eat, however not on the fancy side. read more

Incredible food,lovely space, decent prices. This is a great special occasion restaurant, and has everything you might like if you love Latin American food. The Tacos Carne Asada are incredible. This is our first time here. It was a Saturday night and full of people, almost too many. It was "ok". The salsa that came with the complementary chips was too watery. I had the enchiladas mole. The mole wasn't. It wasn't spicy or chocolate tasting, it had too much cinnamon. It was disappointing. read more

Our local favorite place to hang out and eat! Love the family. Love the food! Everything is prepared with a lot of love. The food quality is consistent and always outstanding!
