We sat at the bar like we usually do, because we get better beverage service than if we do at a table. The food is not the same quality of this place when I started coming here four years ago. The food doesn't come out hot. The salsas taste stale. The green chile salsa tastes like it comes out of a can. I also like that this location is in DT Chandler and has an ice cream place close by. I like that they have TVs at the bar if you want to watch sports. Most of the time the bar top is dirty and sticky. It always amazes me because 75% of the time myself and my party are usually the only ones sitting there. It's not like they're that busy where they can't wipe it down before the next customers come. I have been coming here for over five years and nothing has physically changed with the look of the restaurant. Maybe I need to take a hiatus and come back and reassess. Hopefully the food improves and gives me a reason to keep coming back. read more

Went out on date night two weeks ago. We like old town Chandler - lots of varied restaurant choices. Wife likes Mexican, and we ended up at La Ristra. Summary: delicious. Good service. I don't remember our waiter's name, but he did a great job - personable. Drink: Tequila Mule. Excellent. Right amount of Tequila, Ginger beer. Wife had strawberry Marg - frozen. The center was the color of a traditional lime Marg, and the strawberry part was on the outside. Looked great, even tasted better. Not too sweet. Main course: I had beef short ribs (see photo.) That was a good chunk of meet with just enough fat to make it tasty, but mostly meat. Great sauce. Mashed green chili potatoes excellent ( could have used a bit more salt, but that's just a preference.) Wife had a sopapilla with grilled beef (small pieces that you'd find in a street taco.) She's not a partial to the "charred" taste, but that was just preference. So I gave her 1/2 of my short ribs (a sacrifice!) and took 1/2 of her Sopapilla. I loved the sopapilla and the meat. Vegies cooked very well. Not sure about the reviews regarding poor service - maybe happened, maybe not. But we were satisfied. Nice vibe. Also outdoor seating. Will com again. read more

06/12/2026 This was my first time dining at La Ristra. Came here to celebrate a friend's birthday. My friend had made a reservation for 6 people at 7pm. Our table was ready when we got there. It was packed and very loud with the music and chatter. I got a Mezcal Smokey Margarita. It was not my favorite. My friends got medium-sized margs which came in large martini glasses. They also offer margs in a fishbowl or pitcher. The birthday girl got a frozen white peach marg and really liked it. For food, I got the blackened salmon tacos from their specials menu. It came with 3 tacos and a side of beans and rice. It was pretty good and very filling. My friend enjoys getting one of the burritos here because they're huge so she could save half for another meal. I would come back here for food, and maybe a beer next time instead of a cocktail. read more

Best taco salad ever! The carne asada was cooked perfectly and so delicious. The complimentary salsa trio and chip starter was also so tasty all three of salsas were good. The service was also great. I went on a hot day and was able to enjoy outside dining. the patio was shaded and had fans and misters and was not close to the street like other places. read more

I'm disappointed to see the stingy reviews down below. We had a lovely lunch experience here. The server Lexi and the rest of the staff were all super nice, always on top of things, and very helpful. The mahi mahi tacos were quite nice, and their cheese crisp is about the crispiest I've seen. We quite enjoyed the side dishes too - the calabacitas and the green chile mashed potatoes were tasty with just a hint of spice. It was quiet when we came and service was super attentive. Here's why only 2 stars -- the PRICE. It is TOO EXPENSIVE. What's up with restaurants gouging people nowadays?! My wife and I split the fajitas, got one beer, and the total was $44! They charged us extra for 2 additional tortillas (comes only with 2), and charged us too much extra for a very SMALL side of sour cream and guac. Greedy. After tip was $50. And that would be just for one person really, since it was just one meal and one drink. No justification for prices like that. Not going back unfortunately, because the food is very tasty. read more

La Rista is a delicious New Mexican restaurant in the middle of downtown Chandler that you should definitely add to your checklist of places to try. I had a medium flavored raspberry margarita. The portion size on the drink was huge which as great when pairing with tasty spicy food. Chips and salsa were complementary. I enjoyed the green mild salsa while my brother enjoyed the spicy red salsa. I got the chorizo queso appetizer and the elote as my main dishes. Both were delicious. We also got to watch the suns basketball game . There were plenty of tvs for sports. The queso was piping hot and flavorful. The elote was seasoned perfectly. My brother had the chili Riano, which also came with two sides. The portion sizes were generous . The service here was very prompt. There was no wait for a table. This was our second time eating here. Just the two of us and they weren't busy when we came about 6:00pm on a Saturday. We chose to eat outside and even with the mister system going, the flies were a bit annoying! Our server, Hanna, was pleasant and took our drink orders and we asked for a bit more time to read over the menu. She brought our drinks and it was probably a good five minutes before she came back, which was ok but it did seem a bit long. She also brought a basket of chips with three kinds of salsa. The smoky one was delicious albeit had a tad of spicy to it. The other two, a green and red, were high on the spice level but wife enjoyed them. I ordered the Carne Asada which comes with a mixture of sautéed onions and peppers and French fries. You also have your choice of one side dish and I asked for the rice. The meat itself was charred to perfection and was very tasty. It does have a bit of fat, which I find good but in case you are expecting a more leaner cut of asada. The French fries was an odd addition and although I did eat a few, they weren't very crispy. The onion and pepper mixture was spicy, and for some they love it and for others (me) I scraped if off the meat because it was too much for me. The rice was "ok", nothing special and maybe a tad dry. And the flour tortilla was what I call a commercial made one, definitely not a good home-made one. It was thick and folded and uncooked and I didn't eat it. The wife ordered the 3 Generation Tacos, which is an unusual name for three street tacos! One was chicken, which was shredded with no flavor, one was shredded beef, which again had not much flavor but was tender and finally the adovada pork, which was so delicious and moist and flavorful. She really wished all three were this meat. The tacos came with pico and a poblano sauce, both of which were good, she said. I'm giving three stars because the quality of the food was "OK". The real miss was no additional water refills...until we were paying our bill. Once the food was delivered, server came over to check to make sure we had everything and we didn't see her again until it came to hand us the check. read more

I'm from New Mexico, and there aren't too many restaurants outside of New Mexico that understand the difference between New Mexican and Mexican food--and they are actually different. This place has it right. The decor has the New Mexico touches, like lots of ristras (strings of dried red chiles) that you see hangingv every where in New Mexico. There is also the state symbol, the Zia, in lights on the ceiling. Very cool. There is a full bar, and patio seating. We sat on the patio to take advantage of the good weather while we can. It's kind of cool to see everyone walking by in their way to having fun in downtown Chandler, but the cars are also pretty dang loud as they drive by. They bring three kinds of salsa to the table, all delicious. Hubby ordered the stacked blue corn enchiladas topped with egg, the green chili mashed potatoes, and calabacitas (a zucchini and corn mixture with cheese). I ordered the sopapillas stuffed with carne adovada, pinto beans, and calabasitas. Hubby loved his, especially the green chili mashed potatoes. I liked mine, too, but not as much as the last time I was here. Next time I come back, I'll have the carne adovada short ribs, which I had last time--it was soooo good. We waited at the hostess stand for quite a while as the hostess swept a corner of the patio. Finally, a server seated us and introduced herself as our server. We asked about the taco Tuesday special that was on a sign by the street. The only taco on special was a chicharrone taco (not even on the menu). We ordered our food and waited a very long time. Two of the tacos didn't have much flavor. One was pretty good. The green chile mashed potatoes were wonderful. Husband's stacked enchiladas were good. He gave them a 9 out of 10. I give the tacos 6 out of 10. The server brought us complimentary flan and stated it was from the manager since we waited so long. It was an okay experience but we probably won't go back. read more

Decorated cute. Right in the heart of downtown Chandler. Conveniently located. I like that there's plenty of parking, on the side depending what time of day and an entire parking garage in the back for free parking. We celebrated my work holiday party here. First time here, we had a bunch of apps and drinks. Unfortunately the only app we ordered I was able to eat was the wings. Pretty good but they give with Blue Cheese....don't like nor could I eat. The other apps were elote, cheesy pasta, nachos, flatbread and chips with salsa. They had 3 salsa options which were all flavorful!!! The drinks were delish. Great vibe, we were there in time for happy hour and I love that even the top shelf items have a $2 off price at happy hour. Server was knowledgeable and service was fast when we told them we had a concert. Portions were very generous, the quesadilla was big enough for a meal and some to take home. My only complaint is that they no longer have a vegetarian menu or even a vegetarian section on their menu, and there is no indication whether their main dishes or sides are vegetarian. Had seen the Check Please on PBS and have wanted to go there for the past couple years. But living over an hour away could not just drop in. But having visitors opened the opportunity to go. Let's start off with their server/service which was great. We sat at the bar and were helped by Alyssa. She was attentive and provided honest feedback to which dishes to try. Free chips/3 types Salsa- probably the star of the meal as each salsa has their own distinct flavor. One that's mild and flavorful, another that was more on the smoky side, and their mild green tomatillo sauce. Additionally they have a spicier one upon request. As for their overall food, I would not come here with the intent of wanting authentic Mexican. I've learned New Mexican is basically Mexican style food from New Mexico with an emphasis on green chile being the star of their dishes. So expect like Americanize Mexican food or a high end/ upgraded Taco Bell. I will recommend the blue corn stack enchiladas with Christmas sauce. read more

Great location in downtown Chandler. My pozole was fantastic! Really delicious with red chili sauce added on top. Big chunks of pork throughout. Loved it! My entree was a farmer's burrito Adovada (shredded pork in a red chili sauce). The thing was huge. I only ate half of it. It was loaded with pork and very yummy. A few complaints. The food was very salty, yet still yummy. The bartender had a low engagement. I had to keep asking him to do his job. Can you wipe down the bar, it is sticky? Can you explain what these three salsas are? What margarita is good? He wasn't very conversational about the food or the restaurant. Low service scores for sure. I've been eyeing this place, because I've been on a search to find genuinely authentic Mexican food in the area. Family owned is a bonus, (and La Ristra is). Located in Downtown Chandler, La Ristra appears modern, clean, and moderately authentic. The atmosphere was lively, although it wasn't very crowded. Our server was phenomenal, very charming and knowledgeable about the menu. The menu is decently large with plenty of authentic items along with some modern Mexican-American fusion. We were given chips and a trio of salsas, which we appreciated. We started with the Mini Chimis, filled with beef. They were decent, filled with juicy beef and they had a nice, spicy dipping sauce. My Mom thought they were too spicy-- I would have to agree, even as a spicy food lover. The Southwest Chopped Salad was okay, but needed a tangier dressing, it was bland. The Entrees were a step up. We ordered the "Carne Asada", made fresh on the grill. It came with tortillas and we chose black beans and corn as our sides. The steak was incredibly juicy and perfectly seasoned, salty but not overly salty. The black beans and corns were great. I would totally come back. When we came to eat, the servers sat us right away, they were very friendly, and brought out chips and three different salsas. We ordered nachos and two tacos. The food came out fast too. They had a unique taste with queso and shredded cheese on the nachos. The tacos were average but the nachos were amazing . Seriously the best we've had in a long time! The sour cream and guacamole was homemade and delicious. We really liked the vibe of the place, along with the ambient lights and music we were vibing to. It has a modern vibe with a rustic desert feeling. We got messy hands and when going to wash them we realized the sinks were outside the restrooms. This was my first visit to La Ristra. It was a Monday night evening and we found parking right in front, easily. It was 6 pm and there was only one couple sitting on the patio and a group of 4 at a high top inside. We met another couple and we were seated right away. The atmosphere is nice and the restaurant was clean. Music was at the perfect level. Drink: I ordered a skinny margarita. Tasty! Food: chips and salsa, to start (obviously!). A basket of yellow and blue corn tortilla chips which were not salted (and the restaurant does not keep salt and pepper at the tables). They he chips come with 3 salsas. Meh. It was all just okay. Our friends ordered the Queso Blanco Chorizo Dip as an appetizer. Even though I wasn't excited about their chips, I really liked this dip! It was flavorful and had just enough spice for this not-too-spicy girl. I recommend this app, for sure. For my entree I had the New Mexican Traditional Burrito Plate with pinto beans and rice. When my food arrived it was only warm and the rice was crunchy (I think it sat under the heat lamp a little too long). My server was accommodating and offered me another side so I ordered the mashed potatoes. They were delicious! I also tried my friend's side of elite and that was great, too. I chose ground beef and red sauce for my burrito and this was my favorite part of the meal. The portion sizes were good. Because we had a birthday girl at the table our server brought out fried ice cream. I'd pass on this. I've had good fried ice cream before (straight out of the fryer) where this one was a chewy outer coating on the scoop of vanilla. Nobody at the table cared for it because of the chewiness. Overall, decent experience but I'm hoping management pays attention to the reviews to tweak the few small things about the food. Our server was friendly and very accommodating. La Ristra was a nice surprise in downtown Chandler that serves authentic New Mexican-style food. The location is on Arizona Avenue near several other restaurants and parking was easy. I was impressed by the menu as it was rather large and had lunch specials along with seasonal favorites. The flavors were very good and right away they provided chips with three different types of salsa. To no surprise, green chili was by far the best offering. I had carne adovada enchilladas and they were fantastic - tons of flavor and large portions served with rice and beans. My wife had a shredded pork burrito and it was good, but I recommend going with the green chili sauce for some extra kick. Service was very good and prices were reasonable for the location. We didn't have any drinks, however they have a large bar and a number of daily specials. Definitely worth checking out next time you are in downtown Chandler! read more
